Poor magical girl s/o that doesn't know how to respond to that, she just shivers and silently looks away before giving him a warm, loving smile.. "What are you talking about, ruki? I'm not doing anything wrong! " she hummed to him and tilts her head to the side with her hands placed above her necklace.. "I want you to be happy with all of your brothers! I want to protect this world.. " she murmured. "Oh, and those talismans? They are from a friend I have! He says that they... Are meant to protect you! " she said to him oh too lovingly, and yet her eyes look... Oh too dead.

"Hm, I wonder about that. You say you aren't doing anything wrong and that you only wish to preserve the happiness of my brothers and I, but something tells me there is more than meets the eye to your story," he doubted with a skeptical visage, the scoff that followed further emphasizing how little he believed in her statements. "And just what kind of friend would give you such arbitrary trinkets? Ones that are meant to protect, no less. If you ask me, this whole narrative of yours sounds far too convoluted to be true."

Despite her affectionate gestures and inclination of voice, the strong grip around her wrists still hadn't released, if anything, only gaining in power as she fed him half-truths.

"Do tell more about you and your so-called friend," he muttered eerily into her ear, sharp fangs finally drawing small pinpricks of blood from her now exposed shoulder. "What is the nature of your relationship if he insists on giving you these gifts like some kind of secret admirer? I won't stand for it... and neither will you, literally, by the time I'm finished indulging in your sweet blood. I'll make it so that you cannot leave my side or so much as walk a single step away from me."

Deeper and deeper, Ruki’s fangs sank into her exquisite flesh, miniscule perforations soon enlarging into cyclopean punctures of pooled crimson. A parched growl vibrated from his throat as the delectable life essence cascaded down, coating his lips a brilliant vermillion as he steadied the shivering magical girl in place, still unaware of her true nature.

“Such a lovely look upon your face… I can’t deny that seeing you so frightened only further entices me.”

So, You Want to Try RolePlaying.

I’ve been doing RP and co-op writing for years, but have only about a month of experience doing it with complete strangers. So, here’s my advice, some warnings, and probably some random jokes.

First, who are you doing this with? Your friends? Strangers you want to get to know/write with? Your internet acquaintances? Because that’s gonna affect things.

My first and most important warning is this: don’t expect full control, especially not with strangers/people you don’t know personally.

Don’t expect anything, really. You’re taking a risk, and you may end up having to deal with discomfort. Morals, ethics, beliefs, preferences, triggers, even basic likes and dislikes may be very different between you and those you are writing with, so be prepared for that. My best example of this is that I tend to curse much less than those I RP with on tumblr.

My advice? Don’t be surprised, don’t get offended. If you’re uncomfortable, maybe just remove yourself from that scene. You cannot, and should absolutely not, try to control these things. If you’re very very uncomfortable, and it’s an objective thing, that’s when you should ask for changes. For example, if this isn’t supposed to be NSFW/Suggestive, and someone’s really pushing/has crossed that line, going against explicitly stated and agreed upon guidelines and rules, THAT’S when you say something/explicitly ask for them to stop. Exercise basic respect to everyone, agreement with you or not.

I’m an absolute control freak sometimes, so I honestly struggle with “I don’t like this plot” discomfort sometimes, to the point of occasionally feeling physically sickened when something feels out of control. A recent bout of this problem is what made me want to write this. My personal way of dealing with this is making my characters OCs FIRST. Dusk, Northeast, even Kit are all from their own original thing somewhere, that this all isn’t really canon to. While they were made for this specifically, that doesn’t mean they still aren’t my characters and I cannot have them also canonically exist in their own bubble where I have control. It’s strange, but it’s my own personal tactic. If you want, I could probably tell you about this “oc AU”, but most people are probably just here for advice. So onward.

Secondly? Don’t be confusing unless you know you can get away with it hoo boy here we go

I accidentally maybe introduced Puella Magi Madoka Magica into a TADC RP I’m in, and while it did end up crossover-ing decently well, it was really rocky, especially because nobody else had heard of Madoka and if you know anything about PMMM it’s that the lore is freaking WILD. So if you want to try something like that, be slow about it. It was about the only thing I got right.

I mentioned the mechanics, then made a character show up who uses those mechanics, then I introduced Kyubey, a way to spread those mechanics, and then and only then did other characters get to use the full potential of these mechanics/lore. Like I mentioned, it was incredibly rocky, but it worked. So do better than me, I beg.

Third of all. Try to figure out the overall tone before writing. If this is a serious piece of literature where things need to be set up properly, ACT LIKE IT! PLAN! SCHEME!

If this is a no-logic insanity mess where everything is surrealist metaphor, ACT. LIKE. IT. PLAN METAPHORS! BLAST PERTINENT MUSIC! HECK YEAH!

If this is 8-15 teenagers writing a TADC AU full of comedy, drama, ocs, and “whatever seems fun”, FREAKING GO FOR IT, BE DRAMATIC, JUST KEEP THINGS BASICALLY LOGICAL AND MAKE SENSE AND YOU’RE GOOD!

Magishou anon is a very unique anon, as they can only give what they have. And (in the pjsk universe) they really wish they could give healing powers, but they can’t due to lacking healing powers themselves.

For the MILGRAM universe, instead of being unable to give healing powers they can’t give any physical boosts. Only magic, no extra stamina or anything.

They don’t like @/magical-anon-pjsk, due to feeling inadequate compared to Magianon.

No y'know what. I'm too excited to share this. There already is a Hatchetfield pmmm au that only my besties have known abt until now. You of course are also a bestie but very recently y'know.

Now, they aren't in Hatchetfield. They're actually in Moroyama, Japan. I was just looking for an excuse to set a story in Japan, really, bc I think it's a very pretty place just like geographically and I wanted a new research opportunity. Most of the characters are also from immigrant families which is also just a cool thing to write about.

The first picture is Jane and Emma (Akira and Ayeka), and their Kyubey (they named him Pancito) biking to school together, and the second is Paul (Kenshin, my buddy Abby helped me come up with that name) just. Being himself.

I honestly might turn them into OCs? But as it stands, they're still very much linked to their original Hatchetfield selves.

I had an OC in my old RPs who was a Magical Girl from a conservative Christian background. I named her Koyuki, just a name I pulled out at random, but my basic description of her early on was “Boba Fett, but as a Magical Girl” (she was supposed to be a bounty hunter for Kyubey, complete with Magical Girl armor).

Since this was a Magia Record RP, a main factor in her backstory was that she stopped going to church after meeting Kyubey. The reason for it was a combination of 1.) meeting Kyubey made her realize the adults in her life were wrong about a lot of things, and 2.) realizing early on that she basically sold her soul in a Faustian bargain (selling your soul being kind of a big deal in Christianity). I never specified the church denomination, but it was more or less the same one I grew up in. Even her home being near Napa Valley in California was a reference to that.

I really should do more with her in the future. Or at the very least, the concept of a Christian in a Magical Girl world is a topic I’d like to explore. (Maybe even outside of the PMMM universe. Aside from Kyouko in PMMM, I’m told that Zakuro from Tokyo Mew Mew was written this way in the first anime adaptation. I haven’t seen the adaptation yet, but since I’ve read Tokyo Mew Mew, maybe I will soon…)

When you become a magical girl, you will start seeing pokemon known as "witches" that you can fight for special poke-balls known as grief seeds! Grief seeds are used to "catch" the dark clouds in a soul gem that appear from using magic!

Heck it, ruki with a magical girl s/o. His poor, poor magical girl s/o whom foolishly made a wish/a contract with a weird cat-like creature that he cannot see, just to make sure that him and all of his brothers are happy and safe now, in exchange for her own happiness and hope. She disappears more often than not, going away to places when he is too busy doing something, and then comes back always with the sweetest smile and gives him a hug before offering him some things she got along the way, and when asked about a mysterious necklace with a large stone on it, she just says that it's a family heirloom she found recently, she is sacrificing everything, because he means the world to her.

“Livestock, explain yourself to me at once. I don’t take kindly to these recurrent late night outings. And don’t lie to me about your whereabouts, either. My brothers have informed me that whenever I’m tending to the house or engrossing myself in a novel that they haven’t the slightest clue where you run off to. You have no idea how much it troubles me that you would disappear for some odd hours and come home with these strange, albeit beautiful, talismans which I highly doubt are from the human realm just by looking at it. Which brings me to my next question… if it isn’t from this world, and it also doesn’t appear to be from Makai, then just where exactly did you acquire such foreign items?”

Before she could properly respond, Ruki teleported behind her and coiled his cold, slender fingers around the circumference of her wrist, restraining her in place as he inclined downward, the tips of his fangs barely prodding the flesh above her clavicle. Black curls faded to white at the ends tickled the shell of her ear as he reduced his voice to an ominous whisper. 

“Perhaps I should demonstrate with these fangs of mine what happens to deceitful livestock if you refuse to tell your master the truth.”

“I would have kept tabs on you, but I am unable to journey beyond this point. Kamihama is strange.” They had sent Mami Tomoe to investigate, but even then, Mami had barely spoken to the alien since then. She was withdrawn. Well, no matter. If she witched out, it would be good for their energy goals.

It was inevitable. One day, Kuroe would become a witch too. Unbeknownst to the both of them, the magical girl was in more danger of this final lethal transformation being outside the perimeter of the strange city.

Preface

For the last decade or so give or take, I've off-and-on been part of a Twitter RP known as "Mitakihara Original", a story set in the Madoka Magica universe with an entirely original cast.* The story and worldbuilding concepts had evolved and escalated, creating new ideas to fuel a story I've loved ever since I started participating in the RP.

Despite my passion for the project, I've had a burning desire to ask myself "what would the story be like without our expanded concepts**, and played more true to the Madoka world itself?" I've had the urge to imagine a reboot of the story for years now, and that is what this project is. An AU retelling of an RP. A fanfic of a fanfic.

Even so, this project is a creative vision I've been dying to bring to life for awhile now. It's extremely rough, given I haven't written in any kind of seriousness since I was a child. But this is also my way of practicing. I'm publishing it here just for the sake of getting over my fear and self-consciousness with regards to my own creative works.

I'll be publishing one chapter at a time, on no set schedule (because I'm still writing it, but who knows when I'll fall out of this mood), separated by major arcs or parts.

EDIT: While I will do my best to tell a story independent enough that one would not need to have followed/participated in the Mitakihara Original RP to understand it, having basic knowledge of the Madoka universe will help a lot. It shouldn't be required, per se, as a lot of the content should stand on its own, but knowing the basics (girls make a wish on Kyubey, gain powers, fight Witches, but it's not as it seems etc etc) will help a lot.

A few misc baku thoughts / headcanons that I’ve been meaning to toss onto the dash:

Ren is NOT the same as Len on this blog. He’s NOT an AU version of Len. He’s his own character entirely.

Probably the most important one with regard to RP: Ren will not mess with your dreams without your consent. He’s like Kyubey from Madoka Magica. He’ll present you with an array of possibilities for better things, and definitely try to sweeten the deal for you, but he won’t outwardly lie about his intentions with you, and he won’t eat your dreams, bad or good, until you explicitly consent to receiving his services. When he cons you and eventually leaves, he’ll spin it to be your fault for using his dreams to escape from your bitter reality. Gaslight gatekeep girlboss.

If your muse doesn’t consent but you still want to thread with him he’ll just annoy the shit out of you with his stupid little “make a contract and become meguca” song and dance.

Once it steals all your dreams and leaves, two main things happen to its victims:

They can’t dream when they sleep. Ever again.

All of their hopes and figurative dreams — i.e., their willpower and desires — are gone, too. They’re basically left a dreary husk of the person they once were.

For the sake of RP and not being too godmoddy, I’m nerfing Ren and saying that with a LOT of time and hard work, muses can overcome the second one, but they need to put in the effort. I just don’t want threads with Ren to feel like “and then I oneshot you and steal your soul and you can never be the same for the rest of your life mwahaha no dodging.” Of course, any dream-stealing endgame with Ren can be considered non-canon to your blog. Or it can. That’d be delicious (/lh). But real talk, no permanent consequences will come to your muse unless we agree upon it OOC.

It doesn’t really have separate verses because it’s very easy to insert into any given fandom’s universe. Fuck, I can even say it’s capable of traveling to these different worlds all for the sake of collecting more dreams for Gilda.

He’s ace and demiromantic, but he’ll pretend to be a flirt to charm his victims into feeling safe. He’ll refer to you as a master or mistress for as long as he’s serving you. He’ll kneel and kiss the back of your hand. He’ll kiss your lips, if you let him. It’s fake. And he probably won’t be open to any genuine romance because he’s waiting for the day when Gilda eventually wakes from her coma.

If you allude to knowing anything about their past with Gilda they WILL throttle you.
