I have some good ideas. The next chapter is gonna be a Romulus-based episode.

from the prompt list - time travel 💫😌 please
Clarke slams into the ground so hard her teeth rattle. Every muscle aching with effort, she manages to fling out a shaking arm to hinge herself onto her back, teeny rocks biting into her palm with sharp edges as she flops down again, arms screaming.
With another desperate burst of energy she manages to curl her fingers around the knife that is digging a razor tip into just above her knee, bringing it to clasp over her chest as her lungs burn from the abrupt change in both altitude and oxygen content.
The sky is a bright ceramic blue, puffy white clouds lazily sailing by as birds chirp merrily in the background, the sounds of an idyllic marred only by the loud wheezing Clarke found herself emitting as she struggled to catch her breath.
Why the fuck is that time jump so goddamn hard? When I go forward it doesn't give me a rib stitch like that, Clarke finds herself thinking as she massages her right rib absentmindedly.
Three large breaths later Clarke finds the fortitude to peel herself off the ground, staggering upright as she shakes the pins and needles out of her leaden feet. She surreptitiously checks the glowing map that surrounds her wrist, noting the golden, pulsing dot in the middle is moving steadily closer to her location.
Nodding decisively, she moves forward, finds a slightly rotten, moss coated log to settle onto by the side of the road, and settles in to wait, eyes glued to the glowing orb that is moving from the crook of her elbow to the green x that is projected above her wrist.
///
Lexa rolls her next side to side slightly, straightening up and nodding infinitesimally back towards Gus's direction when he tilts his head in her direction, eyes questioning.
Yes, I'm ok.
Stiffness from her neck alleviated slightly, Heda settled into the rhythmic movement of her horse, Laika's gentle walk, and resigned herself to a boring ride north, mentally preparing for the mind games and underhanded treachery that two weeks of all of the ambassadors in Polis for their annual meeting held.
At least Luna is coming this year, that's something.
Lexa was so entrenched in the thoughts of her dark eyed friend that she almost missed the flaxen haired girl, curled up slightly off the path on a crumbling redwood log.
Her guards, however, did not.
Lexa was unable to bark an order to stand down before Ryder drew his bow, a lethally honed arrow whistling through the arrow with deadly speed before Lexa could raise a hand in warning.
Before she could breathe, a blue glow washed over the clearing as an orb, crackling and pulsing with energy, encompassed the girl. Ryder's arrow fell to the ground silently at Laika's feet, arrow tip compressed cleanly into a flat disc where it had come in contact with the energy field.
Brow pressed tight in silent disbelief and worry, Ryder silently stooped to scoop up the arrow and hand it to Lexa, both chastisement and concern etched into his features.
The clearing was completely silent, dusk rapidly creeping into the forest as purple smudged the horizon.
The girl was awake now, expression blank behind the wavering energy as she stared silently back at the company before her. She stands quietly, every muscle clearly on alert as she raises her hands in deference to Lexa, either somehow knowing or assuming that she was the one to address. Lexa makes a mental note of her observation skills,
"Hello. My name is Clarke Griffin."
Lexa turned the arrow over in slender fingers twice, thumb gently worrying the downy soft fletching of the owl feathers before coming to a snap decision.
She speaks the language of the mountain people.
"Hei, Clarke Griffin. I am Lexa."
Something akin to recognition washes over Clarke's features, intelligence clear in her bright eyes.
"Lexa."
Confused, Lexa cocks her head, Laika stamping uneasily as Lexa's hands tighten unconsciously on the reigns.
"Lexa kom Trikru." The trig words trip uncomfortable, foreign, off of Clarke's tongue.
Gus's head snaps up at this, hand tightening around his sword as he looks at Clarke Griffin with renewed suspicion.
"The only people who refer to me as that are my familiars or my advisors, of which you are neither, Clarke Griffin. Explain yourself, or you will not be so lucky as for Ryder to miss a second time." The words come out colder, tighter, than initially intended. Clarke's tech and her appearance among a trail that was a tightly kept secret as Heda's preferred traveling path was unlikely to be a lucky guess.
The blue orb flares again around Clarke at Lexa's threatening tone, Lexa's guard blinking against the bright glow that once again surrounds her figure. Despite this, Clarke takes one, then two hesitant steps towards Lexa. Laika
"Lexa. I'm here to help you, to help protect you."
Lexa can feel her eyebrow quirk in amusement and disdain as a ripple of laughter ran through her men. Lexa, clad head to toe in leathers with two swords strapped to her back, black war paint smudged down her cheeks in a fearsome mask, hardly conjured images of helpless maidens in distress. Lexa had staunchly curated her image in defiance of her stature as a slim young woman since the day she had climbed bloodied and victorious out of her Kongeda.
"Protect me?" Lexa snorted in derision, though not unkindly. This Clarke Griffin clearly meant well, although mistaken. While they would have to question her on her knowledge of this trail, there was nothing to be concerned about, Lexa decided as she settled back into her saddle once again. "I highly doubt that, Clarke Griffin."
"I come from a future where you are killed by an unseen assassin at the last night of the yearly ambassador meeting, Heda. With your death the conclave falls into disrepair, triggering the start of World War Four. I was sent back to save you, and I intend to do my job."
The reins slip from Lexa's hands as she is unable to stop the shocked breath from escaping her lips.
A steely blue gaze meets a dazed green stare as Clarke hesitantly lowers the force field, stepping foward into Lexa's path.
"I believe we have much to discuss."

Weird question, but “how” exactly would you recommend someone gets into Homestuck? I know it’s very long with a lot of characters and timelines, is there anything in particular I should take careful note of? I also know there’s a lot of additional content outside of the comic on the actual website. Do you recommend that too? Should I start with the comic and read that and finish it, and then move on to the supplemental stuff, assuming that’s good?
I know that I’m overthinking it but the 1mil+ word count intimidates me a little! I should add that I read the first act or so years ago and know enough about the “main” kids/trolls to be able to keep track of them, but that’s it, I’m very entry level.
(Also, just wanted to say that I saw the link to your story on ao3 when I went to send this ask and that I really love it. It’s genuinely so beautiful and I’ll look forward to every update. 🩷 I’m not too good at articulating my thoughts into the proper review that you deserve, but I did want to let you know just how much I absolutely adore Laika and her story.)
hi! thanks for the kind words about Laika, this totally made my day. this, and the request to teach you how to read homestuck. i hope im up to the task.
so first off, you want the Unofficial Homestuck Collection if at all possible. For this, ideally you need a computer/laptop and around ~4gb of storage space; buy a USB stick if you need to. That’s actually not a lot of storage space at all but apparently a lot of young people these days don’t have computers, so if you are absolutely 100% bound to using a mobile device, there’s an experimental browser branch of the Unofficial Homestuck Collection that does a pretty good job, too.
The reason you’ll want to read it on the UHC is because 1. as of January 2024, the official Homestuck website is pretty broken (a lot of it relied on the now retired Shockwave Flash) but the UHC is basically a perfect “as-it-was-back-then” version of Homestuck made to archive the true experience. It’s recommended by the author even!
The Unofficial Homestuck Collection also collects much of the additional content you allude to, and very conveniently, provides a “New Reader Mode” that “unlocks” new additional content as/when you reach the page closest to when it was released, which really streamlines a bunch of the stuff you’re anxious about — not only does the collection provide it for you, it very graciously curates it to reflect Homestuck as it happened.
As for if you should read anything else before Homestuck, that’s up to you. Homestuck was the fourth piece of fiction under a collection of works called “MS Paint Adventures” — the other three aren’t necessarily canon to Homestuck, but they’re referenced pretty frequently. In the opinion of author Andrew Hussie & a lot of the classic fan base, it’s easiest to start with Problem Sleuth and progress on to Homestuck if you want to “get” how the world/structure functions (Homestuck is not a traditional webcomic — the audience would submit commands for the characters to perform as their next action. This is a little more apparent in the earlier MSPAs). Personally, I think Jailbreak, the first MSPA, is also unmissable but it wouldn’t be wrong to go back and read it later either. And most people (myself included) just started on Homestuck itself.
The biggest piece of advice I would give you is to take notes, and also, that every “piece” of the comic is just as important as every other piece — the dialogues don’t supplement the narration, the narration doesn’t supplement the images, etc, they are all equally important & a lot of Homestuck is told through unreliable chat log discussions, a straight up manipulative authorial voice & quick paced visual storytelling, so it can be a bit hectic and opaque first time around.
The second biggest piece of advice I would give is to read it with a group of friends if possible, and if not possible, consider reading the dialogue aloud to yourself sometimes (or at least give the characters voices in your head) because I think hearing the different characters vocally interact can really help one to “get” the dialogue & complex concepts being put down
Finally, my biggest piece of advice is that I have been running a Homestuck workshop in my discord server where I’ve been guiding a group of around seven new Homestuck readers in “how” to read the comic because it’s quite a hands on experience; right now our live read is almost half way through but we can provide you with resources & help & guidance if you need anything, so if you want a link for that just send an ask off anon and we can do that 🥰

MARK WATNEY, LOG ENTRY. laika.
ANDIE , @lvebug did NOT ask for this
the humming sound of an engine is both foreign and familiar. he swore he’d had more than enough space for a lifetime after the last time. the roar of his way home still comes to him in the silence of the night. now it’s drowned out by a newer, softer sound. he’s here for one reason: the protégé to his right, who watches the stars like its her first time leaving dock all over again. after what must be hours of it they come to the inevitable subject— his return to space. he seldom shares all that much about the first trip. it’s all in the public anyways, and she’s taken enough of his classes to hear what he doesn’t mind sharing. still, there’s a coldness he won’t ever forget or ever speak of. it’s not a ghost story for others. there are other, better stories. “do you know the story of the first dog in space?”

Dear no-one,
Hello. It’s been a long time since I’ve written. A good three years or so. I think the last time was in ecology class in high school, or maybe that summer. Also on a different website. I used Waterfall because it wasn’t blocked by my school’s wifi.
Sad that all those letters are lost now. I’d love to go back and read them.
I’ve gotten both more and less stable in my identity. Still fluctuating and changing frequently, sometimes with medians sometimes with alterhuman identities. But I just kind of go with the flow now. Don’t force anything. Label it as I can, and if I can’t, I at least try not to worry about it.
It’s getting cooler out finally, so my canine side is resurfacing. It’s a double edged sword. Slightly more stagnant identity, which I like; but severe, crippling dysphoria.
I remember my sheep. How I watched over them. Protected them from predators. How they followed each other off a cliff edge. How I saved one, dragged it back to the farm.
I remember running. Running through autumn woods and hopping logs. The smell. The feeling of the leaves.
I miss that life.
—Laika

The next morning, before her mom could get onto her for stressing, Winnie quickly logged into her computer to check on her application status. Trying to stay calm, she told herself it would probably be a little bit before she heard anything. That was when she noticed the email from Britechester -
Winnie: No way...! Laika, I did it!

4inFeb Complete
I haven't really been updating here with my 4inFeb progress but I just finished. I had changed my 4th game from Laika to getting a specific WR in Tritris and I just accomplished that today.
The WR was the most lines cleared in a single game on NES speeds.
And for the other 3 games:
Pseudoregalia, I've beaten probably like 50 times now. And speedrunning it has been a serious mix of fun and frustrating. The OoB tricks required for a good time are so inconsistent, that it's getting less and less fun to grind for a PB.
Slay the Princess, I haven't gone back to after my initial playthrough but I did beat it so good enough.
And TMNF, I beat all my PBs and after seeing some of the golds and author medals decided against going for them. I did somehow accidentally log out and I don't remember my account info so even though I could go through the process to get that back now, I don't really see the point since I beat my main goal for the game. And after going back to play TMNF, I can def say TM2020 is so much better than TMNF in my opinion so I'll stick to the new one. Especially with the new car coming out in a couple days, and then the new campaign coming out in a little over a month in early April.

The Power of Low-Design Games
Hello again everyone. I recently streamed one of my old favorite relaxation games on my YouTube channel (A link if you're interested in content even more glacial than my Tumblr: https://youtube.com/@nimrod3646)
And I was shocked that the game snuck in new little features in my absence of playing. I remarked a lot on it while going through, but for those not in the mood to tune into a 4 hour tinkering stream, perhaps this will better suit you.
Jalopy. It's a game I bought an age ago, with a simple overall design doc. You are someone living in Berlin, when your Uncle Lutfi comes by to teach you about travelling in his old Laika car. The game follows your simple driving adventures as you go from Berlin to Turkey, then back. That's really all the game has to offer. It's shocking, then, that I used to log so many hours into it. There are a myriad of simple yet enjoyable activities that keep you occupied and engaged throughout. You can find refuse or abandoned cars on your drive, taking engine parts and crates full of goods to sell off at stores on your drive. You can upgrade your car with engine improvements, tyres, and other extra upgrades that improve your driving experience. Nothing is too in-depth, but each mini system offers the player just enough to get lost in on an easy and relaxed playthrough. Now, I'm something of a magpie when it comes to games. I spot anything shiny or interesting and pick it up to hoard and (eventually) play. Jalopy was just what I happened to scrape up in my trawling net and try out, and I'm sorely happy that I did. What Jalopy does so right is in presenting all of the mentioned mini systems in a simple, sanded-down package. Your uncle, as well as every other body model is sculpted with simple polygons, lacking any facial features other than hair. Like an old cartoon, your uncle's jacket has a texture that moves when he does. That blocky polygon look persists with everything else, lending a simple and stylized drive through the countries and mountains you're passing through. It is... Profoundly tiny budget. When you bump into a car as a person, it plays one of only a few metallic smashing noises. A few lucky passes and proper route selections, and you can have a fully built car (as I did in my new game playthrough) before you reach turkey. It could absolutely be derided for the tiny scale the game operates on... But honestly, the charm captures me. It's done within means, and I'm much more happy to enjoy the simple environments and listen to German radio than I think I might be playing something like my summer car or the like. As I also said during play, the game feels small, but in a comfortable sense. Small in that I like the options I have, and don't want for too much more. Small in that, if it were ever remade as the developer teased at, I would hope that they preserved the original as much as possible. It's a miniscule little game that wraps me in warmth and comfort I cannot find in a great many titles I play. It's a game where you have a simple task, an easy, rewarding system, and just enough on your plate to plan ahead while you drive the highways and mountain roads of eastern Europe. The dev has since moved on to bigger and better things with Landlords Super, and I have played that enough for a lifetime (I'll still boot it up time and again to play from scratch, it is just as addictive and enjoyable). It's a wonderful contrast that simply manifested in my mind while I played. Because I had planned to swap over to Frostpunk at some point, and try for a challenge run win. And I just kept driving instead. One more station, one more upgrade, I was in turkey before I really looked at the time. And I filled four hours of time with semi-frequent ramblings alone in my stream, playing in game radio and out of game radios from other games I enjoy. No one but me, the road, and Uncle Lutfi to keep me company on a long rainy ride to somewhere. And that, is a feeling that I'll always want to come back to, and one that never goes away with age. When I want Jalopy, Jalopy is there for me to play just as comfy as when I first bought it.
Thanks for reading. The stream is up and, if you've time to run it in the background, I hope it imparts a bit of the comfort that I receive from playing it onto you.

Sneak Peek: Chapter 9 of Halovaya
I swear I'm working on it. I'm securing a second part-time job right now in addition to school so shawty is really jam-packed.
TL;DR: Some up and coming Tal Shiar agents are bickering over their newest lil' assassination assignment.
“It really should be a simple matter,” Major Hwiamna began, quickly looking over her slim figure in civilian robes. “It is fortunate this is finally being taken care of, don’t you think?”
“Yes, I think so,” Wraet replied, clumsily adjusting their disruptors’ settings.
It had been quite some time since she had attempted to blend in, and after becoming an officiated member of the Tal Shiar, she had secretly hoped that she wouldn’t be tasked with arduous little assassinations like this one ever again. But alas, she and her semi-idiotic companion, Wraet, seemed to be unlucky these days.
“Hey, watch it!” Hwiamna snapped, snatching the weapons from Wraet’s incompetent grubby hands. “You’re doing it wrong.”
“Am not!” Wraet childishly protested.
“You are,” Hwiamna corrected him. “With these settings, we’d have the Vulcans melted into a fuckin’ puddle. We’re being discreet per our orders, moron.”
“All right, all right! Quit nagging me,” he scoffed.
Wraet rolled his eyes, turning away from her to look out the window of the self-driving shuttle General Dilmux had arranged for them to take, made out to look like a modestly priced civilian’s vehicle.
“Have you ever been south of Vendras before?” Wraet asked.
Hwiamna scrunched her forehead, irritated that her longtime collaborator was suddenly acting all sentimental. “Actually, Jeko let us try out that simulation of the Valley of Chulla. You remember. He had been working on it for months.”
“So you’ve never been in real life?”
Hwiamna sighed. “No, I haven’t.”
Wraet nodded and leaned towards the window. “I’ve always wanted to go. I nagged my parents about it all the time as a kid, but they told me only the rich went there. Brought their annoying little kids and did bird watching. Stuff like that.”
“Ah, yes. Bird watching,” Hwiamna huffed. “We will not have time to indulge ourselves in that hobby.”
“Well, yeah. I’m not an idiot. I know.”
Hwiamna had collaborated briefly with Jeko, a brilliant, genius programmer whom she admired and did, in fact, bear some romantic unrequited fondness for, and reviewed all the relevant tracking information for the two of them. Svela and Halek, as he was called apparently, had both been diligently tracked and monitored while staying in the home world. Their sense of awareness of the matter proved to be a bit ambiguous— Hwiamna and the others weren’t entirely sure how much they knew. She found Vulcans incredibly troublesome and difficult to understand.
