This $86 Million Superyacht Concept that can ‘Fly’
From floating ‘diamonds’ to roaming volcanoes, an array of eclectic and innovative superyacht concepts has been emerging in recent months, and this latest invention from Lazzarini Design Studio is no exception.
Powered by a hydrofoil system, the 74-meter-long vessel, known as Plectrum, can lift itself above the water surface and seemingly “fly” at high speeds.
According to the team at the Italian studio, the design was largely inspired by the foiling monohulls used in the America’s Cup, one of the oldest international sailing yacht competitions.
Hydrofoil system
But rather than being pushed by the wind like a sailing yacht, this huge shiny orange vessel will run on three hydrogen-powered motors with the ability to reach 5,000 horsepower each.
While foiling technology dates back many years, its popularity has recently grown, particularly due to the America’s Cup.
However, building a hydrofoil of this size would undoubtedly be a hugely significant achievement.
Although the design is just a concept, the designers say it could be constructed within two years at a cost of around $87 million (€80 million) if a buyer is found.
Eyecatching design
“We like to remember that in 1964, shipbuilding was already capable of similar vessel construction,” the designers say in a statement.
The foil system can apparently be adjusted depending on the “cruising needs” at the time, expanding from a width of 15 meters when the yacht is berthed/anchored and the foil is closed to up to 20 meters of beam when open while the yacht is sailing on high speed.
This “different superyacht configuration” will allow “much faster sea traveling than conventional similar size ships,” adds the Lazzarin team.
Made from a mixture of dry carbon fiber composite materials, the light superyacht has been “designed to be the fastest of its kind,” and will have the ability to reach a top speed of 75 knots.
As for onboard amenities, the yacht will be equipped with six guest cabins, a shipowner suite, a helipad and a beach club with a swimming pool over its four levels.

Pearlsuite for Jet Capsule,
Each unit includes all the same amenities as a hotel room and is 100% solar-powered, creating enough energy for air conditioning, lighting, refrigeration, and other appliances.
Pearlsuites are designed for Jet Capsule, an Italian water mobility brand whose vision is to bring the heights of road and air travel luxury to the water, sustainably. From the top-specs flagship version of Pearlsuites, to a simplified, open version for beach clubs, the concept intends to introduce a brand-new niche into the seaside hospitality market.
The floating suites would allow beach resorts to do the seemingly impossible: establish or expand their number of rooms in a matter of weeks, with zero carbon footprint, zero infrastructures, and zero land occupied, all at a low implementation cost.
The units are customizable and, if anchored, multiple units clustered together could become a floating resort.

These Futuristic Floating Hotel Suites Are Completely Solar-Powered
Enter Pearlsuites, the futuristic floating hotel suites designed by Pierpaolo Lazzarini of Lazzarini Design Studio. The conceptual designs are circular pods that are reminiscent of UFOs, but, instead of hovering in the air, they float on the surface of the water. Each unit includes all the same amenities as a hotel room and is 100% solar-powered, creating enough energy for air conditioning, lighting, refrigeration, and other appliances.

A United Nations agency has been caught helping Hamas. The Washington Post, however, is here to help both the genocidal terrorist group and the corrupt organization that shares its ultimate objective: the destruction of the Jewish state.
A Jan. 30, 2024 Post column entitled “Biden’s cutoff of Palestinian aid is inhumane and strategically stupid” was a veritable whitewash of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), whose employees took part in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led invasion of Israel, the largest massacre of Jewish civilians since the Holocaust.
On Jan. 26, Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s commissioner-general, acknowledged that Israeli authorities had provided the organization with “information about the alleged involvement of several UNRWA employees in the horrific attacks on Israel.” Lazzarini stated that he had “immediately terminated the contracts of these staff members.”
Washington Post columnist Josh Rogin noted that “12 U.N. employees in Gaza” allegedly participated in the attack, noting that, “if found guilty” they “deserve no sanctuary and no mercy.” He also said that “UNRWA has big questions to answer about this and other instances of some of its 13,000 employees seeming support for violence against Israelis.”
But Rogin declined to elaborate on what some of these “other instances” were. No additional facts were given. Instead, Rogin devoted most of his column to calling Biden administration cuts to UNRWA “cruel” and counterproductive. Cuts to UNRWA, he warned, “will have ripple effects that will make solving all of the Middle East’s problems more difficult.”
It is far from certain whether solving “all of the Middle East’s problems” should be a US objective, let alone whether that is obtainable.
However, what it is certain is that eight decades after the end of World War II, UN employees helped carry out the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. And far from being outliers, their behavior is reflective of UNRWA itself. The UN agency’s support for murdering Jews is endemic. It is also extensively documented. And Rogin declined to provide examples that were already in the public domain.
Indeed, as The Wall Street Journal reported before Rogin’s column ran, intelligence reports indicate that no fewer than a dozen UNRWA employees “had connections” to the Oct. 7 massacre, and at least six took part in the attack. At least two others helped kidnap Israelis, and others “were tracked to sites where Jewish civilians were shot and killed.” The Journal also noted that “others coordinated logistics for the assault, including procuring weapons.” UNRWA vehicles and facilities were also used.
Far from a case of “a few bad apples,” as both UNRWA and its apologists in the press would have the world believe, UNRWA’s complicity is extensive. Intelligence estimates shared with the Journal indicate that no fewer than 1,200 of its employees in Gaza “have links to Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad, about half have close relative who belong” to these US-designated terror groups.
Put another way: how many UN employees aiding and abetting the systemic slaughter of Jews is too many before US taxpayers quit the footing the bill?

$5bn turtle-shaped floating city
Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini has planned to build the largest Pangeos cruise ship "a city in the shape of a turtle"
The length of the cruise will be 550 meters (1,800 ft), and the width, taking into account the "fins" - 610 meters (2,000 ft). As planned, it will be able to accommodate up to 60 thousand people and swim almost non-stop due to solar panels, wave and wind energy. Villas and penthouses, as well as restaurants, bars and other entertainment venues will be placed on board.

UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said on Monday he had no intention of resigning and hoped the EU would continue to fund his agency, after allegations staff members were involved in the Hamas attack on Israel.
"No, I have no intention to resign," Lazzarini, who heads the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, told reporters in Brussels following a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
Members of the Israeli government led by Benjamin Netanyahu have called on Lazzarini to step down after serious allegations against his staffers emerged.
"We have one government calling for (my) resignation. We might have other voices, but I haven't heard any other government," Lazzarini explained.
Last month, Tel Aviv claimed 12 UNRWA staff members were involved in the October 7 attacks launched by Hamas against Israel, which killed over 1,200 Israelis and sparked a war in Gaza that has claimed the lives of more than 26,000 Palestinians.
The grave accusation, revealed by Israel on the same day the UN's top court ordered it to prevent genocide in Gaza, sparked fears of possible infiltration by Hamas, designated a terrorist organisation by the EU, into the Western-funded UN agency.
Lazzarini suggested, however, that Israel had yet to provide evidence to substantiate its accusations.
Over the weekend, the Israeli Defence Forces also alleged they had uncovered Hamas’ data and communications centre in a tunnel directly beneath UNRWA's Gaza headquarters. Lazzarini has since said he had no knowledge of the tunnel.
Following discussions with representatives of the European Commission, Lazzarini said there was a "mutual commitment" to address the concerns that prompted the EU executive to launch a review into its funding to UNRWA.
Whilst the Commission assured its humanitarian assistance would continue "unabated" following the allegations, it suggested its €82 million donation in development aid due in late February would be conditional on UNRWA auditing its recruitment procedures, bolstering its internal oversight mechanisms and vetting its 30,000-strong workforce.
Lazzarini said that his conversations with Commissioners on the issue had been "very constructive."
Josep Borrell, the bloc's foreign policy chief, strongly suggested that EU cash would flow as anticipated given that UNRWA had launched the investigation the bloc had called for.
"The Commission has never asked for the investigation to finish, but to be launched," Borrell said. "We are clever enough to understand that this can not be finished in 20 days."
The independent review into UNRWA is being led by former French foreign minister Catherine Colonna. An interim report is expected in late March.
Defunding UNRWA 'will affect Europeans'
Several nations have paused payments to UNRWA in the wake of the scandal. These include Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, in a devastating blow to the donor-reliant agency.
Lazzarini said that if governments maintain their decisions, it would strip UNRWA of $450 million (€418 million) this year alone. He said he was engaged with "a number of countries" to assess their expectations to allow the release of these funds.
Without any freeze in funding, the agency's cash flow would have been secured until July, Lazzarini noted, but the announced suspensions meant it would be negative as of March.
A defiant Borrell said such decisions amounted to "collective punishment" rather than "individual accountability."
"To discontinue the support of UNRWA would mean the interruption of vital services to millions of people in need, and a greater humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, which has to be avoided," Borrell told reporters.
"Not only because it is a humanitarian imperative. But also because it would have dangerous repercussions on regional stability and would affect Europeans too."
While seven member states have paused funding, other countries, like Spain, Belgium and Ireland, have firmly backed the agency's role in the Palestinian Territories and the broader region, with some even calling on the Commission to boost its financial aid.
In his remarks on Monday, Borrell slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for attempts to "cancel" the work of UNRWA. He assured that only when statehood has been given to Palestinians that the agency's work can be rightfully discontinued, saying that its existence 75 years after it was founded was in itself "deplorable."
On Sunday, a committee in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, approved a draft bill to end the operations of UNRWA in Jerusalem, and will be voted on preliminary on Wednesday.
Rafah situation 'extraordinarily challenging'
Lazzarini also decried the situation in Gaza's southern town of Rafah, which Israel claims is Hamas' last stronghold and where overnight the Israeli forces launched a military offensive. About 1.4 million Palestinians are estimated to be in the area after fleeing from other parts of Gaza.
Israel has ordered them to evacuate, but Borrell explained incredulity at the demand given that they cannot flee south past the Egyptian border.
"They are going to evacuate where? To the moon? Where are they going to evacuate these people?" he questioned.
Lazzarini explained that UN agencies are unable to operate with the minimum required protection because the local police force "might not be functional anymore, since many of them have been killed" and many officers are reluctant to assist because aid convoys had been targeted by "hundreds of young people."
"The coming days will tell us if yes or not, we will be able to continue to operate in an extraordinary, extraordinary, challenging environment," he explained

Opposition leader Bassirou Diomaye Faye has emerged as favourite to win Senegal's presidential election, after several rivals conceded. Millions took part in a peaceful vote on Sunday, following three years of turbulence and opposition protests against the incumbent, Macky Sall. Voters had a choice of 19 candidates. However, the ruling coalition's choice, Amadou Ba, rejected reports of defeat and said he expected to contest a run-off vote to decide a winner. Russia has charged four men it says attacked a Moscow concert hall and killed at least 137 people. Three were marched bent double into a Moscow court while the fourth was in a wheelchair. All were charged with committing an act of terrorism. The Islamic State group, or IS, said it carried out Friday's outrage at Crocus City Hall, and posted video. Russian officials have claimed, without evidence, Ukrainian involvement. Kyiv says the claim is "absurd". The deadline for former President Donald Trump to post more than $450 million in an appeal bond is Monday. Trump’s lawyers filed a motion telling the court he does not have the funds. New York Attorney General Letitia James said she will ask the court to seize his assets if he does not pay. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, said on Sunday that Israel had definitively barred it from making aid deliveries in northern Gaza, where the threat of famine is highest. “Despite the tragedy unfolding under our watch, the Israeli Authorities informed the UN that they will no longer approve any UNRWA food convoys to the north,” Philippe Lazzarini, the head of the agency, said. “This is outrageous & makes it intentional to obstruct lifesaving assistance during a man made famine.” Israel has accused Unrwa staff members of participating in the 7 October attack and called the agency “a front for Hamas”. In Japan, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has decided as president of the Liberal Democratic Party to interview four LDP members who appear to bear a particularly heavy responsibility for an ongoing political funding scandal. More resignations expected. The Home Office is launching social media adverts to deter Vietnamese nationals from travelling to the UK illegally in small boats. According to the government, an increasing number of migrants arriving illegally in the UK via the Channel are from Vietnam. New ads, building on similar ones already used in Albania, will be written in Vietnamese and feature testimonies from people who were misled by the claims of people smuggling gangs. Some physicists have long suspected that mysterious 'ghost' particles in the world around us could greatly advance our understanding of the true nature of the Universe. Europe's centre for particle research, CERN, has approved an experiment designed to find evidence for them. "UNRWA is facing a deliberate and concerted campaign to undermine its operations, and ultimately end them," said Philippe Lazzarini, the agency's commissioner-general. "Part of this campaign involves inundating donors with misinformation designed to foster distrust and tarnish the reputation of the agency. More blatant, is the Israeli prime minister openly stating that UNRWA will not be part of post-war Gaza."
