"Go away. Quit staring. You guys are starting to annoy me.
...At least you're kinda cute."
Day 12 of Piktober was Crossover. I am not participating too heavily in the event (as I do not have the brain for it this year), but I did wanna get in a couple days, one of which is today's prompt.
This is Tsubakura Enraku from Len'en Project, a Touhou inspired work where just about everyone's gender is left up to player interpretation. I have a whole Len'en/Pikmin AU in my head, but for now this piece will work as a clue of what to expect were I to ever go any further with it.
Tsubakura themself though is...a poor choice for a Pikmin protagonist lol. They're too lazy. They are funny at least.

OK SO
EEE I'm really obsessed woth tma rn and obviously len'en is my favorite thing ever . so. WHAT'S BETTER THAN COMBINING YOUR 2 CURRENT OBSESSIONS-
heres the rough plot of the au:
the institute is owned by Tsurubami, who actually is the first senri priest (who created the senri institute), possessing tsurubami's body as the avatar of the Senri eye. (their true form involves a lot of eyes, where they shouldn't be-)
Tsubkura works in the Senri institute as the head archivist. they were dragget to this job by tsurubami, not knowing the risks, but now, marked by the senri eye, they're way to deep and are unable to leave
over the course of the events Tsubakura begins to loose their humanity, turning into an ink-moth monster, but also gaining the seeing and all knowing powers of the senri eye
(yabu is also here as martin)
Here are some concept drawings:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
maybe I'll also incorporate touhou into this later, bcs I can B)
(also kinda inspired on @tsubakura-enraku 's horror au)
I'm so amazing and genius, I know <( ̄︶ ̄)>

I wonder, what do you ship in Len'en?
Oh hey, you're the one who made the Fanfic Discord server right? This is Starrot Vanity! And I finally made a Tumblr for Len'en stuff 'cause the hyperfixation is back I caved in and wanted a larger space for my headcanons/AUs that Discord couldn't provide. You've asked me this question before, but for the audience at home (also so I can elaborate on some of them):
Ooookay, so, this is a bit of a complicated question to answer, since the ships I'm interested in on a relationship analysis level and the ships that I find think would make a good couple are two separate circles. Not to mention there's a third, equally separate circle consisting of ships that aren't actually ships in the romantic sense, more in a platonic/"they have a really good dynamic" sense.
So I'll split this into threes parts: Ships That are Good, Ships That are Interesting (but please for the love of God don't emulate the behaviours of these ships they're unhealthy as fuck), and Platonic Ships.
(Also content warning in the second section for abusive relationships and Suzumi being Suzumi)
Ships That are Good
AkaYabu
This is just a pure, simple "idiots in love" ship, with a dash of "no homo" since they're just friends. So what if they tuck a homie in bed, give their homie a little kiss sometimes, that's just what bros do!
...As you can see, the main conflict in this ship is that both of them think the other sees them as just a friend, alongside their own denial about being in love. Doubly so in Hooaka's case: Why should Yabusame be interested in them when they have Tsubakura? Hooaka can tell the two have a deep, complex relationship with each other, and they don't want to intrude. Which leads to...
YabuTsuba
Oh boy, these two. Yabusame has a deep, unwavering loyalty to Tsubakura that neither know exactly why. Tsubakura's especially confused by this, but at the same time they need that. After all the pain and suffering and death they've gone through, they need someone who's just there. never asking why like everyone else.
(As for how these two ships are resolved, usually one is more down played than the other. So for example, if the focus of something is on YabuTsuba, then Hooaka simply sees Yabusame as a friend. Occasionally though, I'm reminded that Yabusame has two hands.)
TsuruTen
This one's interesting, since it's essentially YabuTsuba in reverse. Or, to put it another way, Tsurubami is (ironically) a more human Yabusame. Whereas Yabusame's reasons for staying by Tsubakura is shrouded in enigma, Tsurubami's reasons for staying by Tenkai is much more simple: Tenkai represented a alliance with Azumaterasu, a barrier workshop rumoured to have been founded by a god.
But Tsurubami began to feel that Tenkai represented much more than that; Tenkai was a way to starve off the loneliness that came part and parcel with ruling Mugenri. Tenkai added colour to their world, and soon Tsurubami realized that they didn't want to use them as a pawn, they wanted a friend.
Ships That are Interesting (but please for the love of God don't emulate the behaviours of these ships they're unhealthy as fuck)
HibaTsugu
So like, there's no canon basis as to how badly Hibaru treated Tsugumi, but in my headcanon it's pretty badly my dude.
Both of them are old as balls, but while Hibaru has seen shit, Tsugumi was oddly spared from most of the horrors living for hundreds of years has. Perhaps out of luck, perhaps out of a preference for plants over people. They heard of Tsurubami and their dictatorship, though, and they weren't fond of that.
Neither was Hibaru. And so, the two of them paired together in an effort to take down the Senri Shrine. Along the way, the two became friends, possibly even more.
And then the final confrontation happened, wherein the pair learned the truth behind Mugenri, its purpose. Hibaru's response? Snap Tsugumi's wings and leave them behind.
Adding on to this, Hibaru's got like a thousand years of moral decay to work with, versus Tsugumi's somewhat sheltered life. How fine were things, truly?
Suzumi + Shitodo (SuzuAo, SuzuAka, SuzuKuro)
Sure, Tsubakura-sama was their main target, but Suzumi can work on multiple projects at once. And, well, hurting those close to them also counts towards Tsubakura-sama's suffering, doesn't it? Since Yabusame's too...strange in a way that Suzumi doesn't like, that leaves the Shitodo family.
Kuroji's their main target, being the one closest to Tsubakura-sama. And oh, how close they are to the real thing! How beautiful it is to see their normally aloof behaviour break down, crying and begging for their life! Alas, their only a pale imitation to the great Tsubakura, so they're soon disposed of.
Hooaka, now there's an interesting one! They play dumb, but Suzumi knows better. It's just so fun to push their buttons, see what causes them to drop the act and show a more serious side. It's like a gift only they get to see!
And Aoji, oh, Aoji. They're pretty, they're in tune with nature, they're small and quiet and just a little slow on the uptake. What isn't there to love? Just cute enough to kill.
SuzuTsuba
I...don't actually know what to add here that hasn't been said before. Suzumi is their own warning.
Platonic Ships
Hooaka and Kuroji
Man, these two. These two. They care for each other, they want to protect the other, everything the do for the other is out of love. It's just their definition of showing appreciation for the other is so covered in layers of irony and an inability to be honest that the other misunderstands and assumes that the other just hates them.
A tragedy, isn't it?
The rest of the Shitodo's
Honestly the dynamics of all the Shitodo's is just so good. They're all varying degrees of dysfunctional, but at the end of the day they all care about each other. It's just...a struggle to get any of them to admit it.
The Fujiwara's
Speaking of dysfunctional families that still love each other at the end of the day, how about Mugenri's own home-grown Fujiwara's? Possibly even more of a mess compared to the Shitodo's, since murder's on the table for dealing with family scuffles.

A Twisted Fate ch.1
In another Mugenri, the Senri Shrine fell out of favour with the Senri God... Only this time, a certain lazy priest is chosen to do its bidding instead...
https://archiveofourown.org/works/48508327 (Rated M)
for a while now i’ve been wanting to write an AU of my horror au (yes really) where the roles are swapped around. i guess it’s a “horrorswap” au...?
i finally got around to writing something for it!! please note that this will not be nearly as detailed as the main AU, and i’m just going to write it as I feel like it. (TW: experimentation, abstract horror?, body horror, use of a syringe. also, feral scientist crimes.) (wordcount: 1110)
Deathly silence filled the shrine, the air heavy and thick with malaise.
Deep within it, a room. This room would seem very out of place in such an old Shinto shrine; Several large machines lined the walls, though none turned on. On the few exposed areas of the wall not covered up with machines, were countless papers tacked down, the writing on them so dense that the entire sheet appeared pitch black. Blindingly bright clinical lights shone down from above, spotlighting two figures.
One, a researcher, sat with legs crossed, floating in the air, taking notes.
The other, a barely humanoid test subject, its lower body sunken into the pitch black substance underneath them. Surrounding their body was a mess of tendrils of the same inky black substance their body laid in, seeming to sprawl out wildly across the room they were resident of, seeping into each corner of it like a slime mold voraciously searching for food.
The only sound that was audible was the rapid scribbling of the researcher's note-taking, and the quiet, hushed sobbing from their test subject as they did so.
“...Will you shut up and stop crying already.” the researcher grumbled, temporarily halting their note-taking. They set aside the notebook they had been writing in, and glared down at the poor test subject sprawled across the floor beneath them, a nauseatingly disgusted look pasted across their face. “You're pissin' me off.”
The test subject opened its many mouths adorned with sharp teeth, and began to speak in a manner almost akin to something mimicking human speech rather than something experienced in it.
“I… i-it hurt…. sssss…. p… p-please… I-I c-c-c… can't…”
“Yeah yeah, like I haven't heard this before.” The researcher's mismatched black and red eyes glared down at the abomination before them, gritting their teeth as they did so. “You're the one who agreed to this.”
“...I… I-I… was…?”
“Probably,” the researcher shrugged dismissively. “I don't care enough to remember anymore.”
They continued their note-taking as the pool of… whatever in front of them continued to breathe and making noises almost akin to a human being crying.
But this creature was not human. It was their greatest experiment by far, one they had invested so much of their time and resources into. Creating artificial humans was easy. This…? This was a delicate process. If they slipped up, their subject could easily perish.
This creature before them consisted of human flesh, along with a favourite substance of this researcher. One they favoured for much of their life, always insisting that it had the potential for much more than it was being used for. The potential to cure disease, the potential to prevent death. The potential… for potential itself. Combining the two was inevitable, but the process had been… rocky, to say the least.
And now, they even had a third party vying for all they did and eagerly awaiting their projects' completion, no matter how unethical. This was the life they had always wanted. The freedom to complete their experiments, with no worry about some pesky government threatening to shut it down.
They felt immensely proud of their work. After all… The world will soon learn. All will know the true genius of this researcher.
As though to snap them out of their trance, their test subject suddenly spoke up again, their voice trembling as they did so.
“B… b-but… why…? W-why does it… h-h-hurt so much… w-why are you… doing this…?”
The researcher in front of them lifted their head slightly, their grimace turning into a more amused expression. They held their giant hat, the underside of it covered with hundreds of eyes, as they laughed cruelly at them.
“Why'm I doing all this? …'cause.”
The researcher simply took a look at their subject before smirking. They stood up at last, their tall, wooden tengu geta clattering against the floor as they did so.
They grasped what would be their test subject's shoulders, also covered with huge, irregular, sharp teeth, and stared straight into their eyes, a grin forming on their face. Their sharp fangs served to intimidate the subject, and the extra eyes that suddenly opened on their cheek certainly did not help.
“I'm making you stronger, Yabusame. You want to be stronger, don't you?”
The test subject, or rather, Yabusame, gulped and nodded at this statement, a look of confusion and fear slipping onto their face.
“Y… y-yes…”
“Good.”
The researcher walked away to another side of the room, their long black vest flowing behind them. It looked reminiscent of a swallow's tail, and for some reason, it made Yabusame happy. The researcher always said they didn't care about birds, but now they were wearing clothes that made them look like one. They found it quite funny.
The researcher picked something up from a table, turned around and began to approach their test subject again.
“Time for another experiment. This one might hurt like hell, but you're strong. You ain't gonna cry at this, right?”
The subject's eyes widened in fear, their entire body trembling. More tests…? More… experiments…
The researcher kneeled down in the inky black puddle beneath them. The subject felt a sharp pain in their neck… and then they felt a soaring, burning pain spread throughout their entire body. It felt like it was spreading through their very veins and organs. Their chest hurt, their head felt like it was going to burst. They were aware of their own heartbeat, feeling it pulse through their neck and their arms as it beated faster and faster.
It hurt. It hurt so much.
Yabusame lay there in their puddle of ink, forced to do nothing but watch the researcher as their entire body ached. Their vision was faltering, their consciousness threatening to give way as the pain seeped through every cell of their body, throbbing with every heartbeat. It hurt, it hurt so very much.
The researcher sat down on seemingly nothing again and continued to make notes about what they observed. Even the noise of the pen on paper was beginning to grate to Yabusame…
And just as they felt that the pain was reaching its peak…
It stopped.
The pain suddenly stopped altogether, replaced by an odd, tingling sensation throughout their entire body. They laughed nervously, feeling almost as though they were being tickled from within.
They could hear distant scribbling, probably the researcher taking down more notes…
Everything in their vision began to grow dark…
They were tired… They were so, so very tired…
They opened their mouth to say one last thing.
“Ts… Ts-Tsu… ba…”
They closed their eyes… and let their consciousness slip away from them…
