he’s quick in his steps with a coffee grasped in his hand, a slightly crumpled bouquet of flowers held at his side as he ducks through familiar halls in pursuit of a particular brunette. she’s all too noticeable, even with her back turned and bucky reaches a metallic hand out to gently brush her hair away from her neck once he’s within touching distance, letting out a quiet “ boo ” to announce his presence.
bucky takes his initial surprise attack as the chance to swoop in for a peck, and then stands with a goofy grin, full palms raising to show his gifts. “ i thought these might help your shift go by a little faster. ”

[ 𝙳𝙰𝚈 𝟻𝟼𝟽. ] as a surgeon , it is easy to forget your own vulnerability. you cannot afford vulnerability in the operating room -- not when you are holding an organ of a patient who is depending on you to save their life. even after a successful surgery , it is easy to get caught up in feeling like you are invicible.
𝒏𝒐𝒃𝒐𝒅𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒃𝒍𝒆. even those who act like gods ... they are fallible. the realization dawns on her as she scrubs at her skin , wiping away any evidence of surgery from her flesh. the feeling of celebration fades as reality sinks back in. meredith rides on these highs ! has to ride them as a means of survival. but the crash ... ? the crash always comes. it hits like a wave , washing over her as she scrubs her skin raw. meredith grey is not invicible. as much as she wishes could be -- she is not.

❛ sh , aw -- ow ! ❜ a high - pitched hiss of pain escapes her lips as she looks down , realizing her skin is now angry red. she quickly turns off the faucet , shaking the water off of her hands. meredith is quick to grab a paper towel , quickly drying her hands off. after tossing the paper towel , meredith grabs the edge of the sink. leaning over the edge , meredith takes a breath in ... [ 10 ... 9 ... 8 ... 7 ... 6 ... 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... ] & a breath out ... [ 5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... ]
her eyes close as she steadies her breathing , she turns around , grabbing her head in her hands. the fabric of the scrub cap feels rough against her skin & she forcefully takes it off in attempt to find comfort. but as she opens her eyes , meredith releases a sigh of frustration as she looks at the person in front of her.
❛ i had a successful surgery. ❜ her tone leaves no room for argument. ❛ i had one. & i’m not -- i can’t freakin’ enjoy this. i haven’t been able to enjoy life. & 𝐲𝐨𝐮 ! ❜ meredith says the last word almost like a cry. ❛ you won’t leave me alone. is this how izzie felt when she saw denny ? because i can’t shake you off. & i love you , @lexipedia. i do love you -- ... ❜ the words die on her tongue , but lexie knows what she wanted to say : i am tired of being haunted by ghosts. her gaze drops down , staring at the ferry boat scrub cap in her hands. her jaw twitches as she redirects her gaze , holding up the scrub cap. ❛ are you here because of him ? because you shouldn’t be if that’s the case. i’m fine. it’s fine. ❜ [ wow , you sound almost convincing , meredith ! ]

Where did you learn about linguistics and conlanging because you seem really good at it

I started off with David J. Peterson’s The Art of Language Invention.
I also continuously read stuff (mostly on Wikipedia) about all sorts of things, including about other languages.
I made conlangs super frequently and scrapped them almost immediately, giving a continuous cycle of replacement and improvement.
Mark Rosenfelder’s books are okay, but don’t read them until you have a solid understanding of conlanging and linguistics in general, because they can lead beginners down (what I feel is) the wrong path with regards to how to go about the process.
his Conlanger’s Lexipedia is pretty good though.
the CBB (which I know you’re a part of) helped me a lot, too, especially my ex-arch-nemesis, Salmoneus, who corrected the dumber shit I said.

Language Construction Kit and The Art of Language Invention. A personal comparison
First off, this is not an Essay by definition of my high school. This is a rambling thought dump from a man who still feels novice in the craft of artificial languages. that said, I have recently read both Mark Rosenfelder's series to (somewhat) completion and David J. Peterson's book. I will say again that this is a personal opinionated take rather than an objective critique. I also invite both authors and readers to give their opinions as well. That said, let me compare.
The Language Construction Kit (LCK) was the first book I read on the subject of conlanging. at the time I was even more of a Novice so most of the terms flew over my preteen head. but after exposing myself to linguistic material of all types, I can say for certain that it is a good explanation of the technical terms one would stumble across in their research for inspiration. not only that but it being the first in a series of (so far) four other books means overall that there is a lot of ground to cover. those other three being the Advanced Language Construction (ALC), Conlanger's Lexipedia, and Syntax construction. However, it can be inconvenient to need all four books to experience the full range of advice the author has to offer (especially if one relies on Library Loan-outs, like myself).
Personally, I favor the Lexipedia because it is the only Rosenfelder book that my Library owns (for now). showing me the full range of semantics and meanings to make my conlangs' vocabulary unique. a close second would be the Syntax Construction Kit, for the one list that shows all the different ways grammar could be marked on a language. The LCK and ALC are also good for going through the overall basics of ones own conlang. however I have found sources online that cover some of the subjects in the same way. still nice to have around for a check list though.
The Art of Language invention is the second book I have read on the subject. What feels to me like a personal exploration of language creation from a creative view rather than a technical one. also covers things I feel are missed in the Rosenfelder series, one of those subjects being grammatical evolution which personally interests me. the book also goes over some (hopefully not dated) real world references as examples or inspiration. Such as explaining the creation of words from old ones like calling a pizza topping that falls off at the last moment a "DiCaprio". Or how a certain hotel has lead to "-gate" deriving as "a scandal associated with the word". I feel that these references work for approaching unusual features in a language in a way that makes sense. the conclusion at the end is also inspiring for comparing language construction to art, in that art can have many genres. Naturalism being used for paintings and certain conlangs leading to the questions of what a cubist conlang would be like? then asking if a popular piece of media had its own (sets of) conlang(s). I am glossing over most of it.
The biggest strength of the Art of Language construction, though, in my personal opinion, would be that of the four chapters dividing the book, each one ends with an example of the author's own process of approaching said subject from their own works. The phonology of Dothraki, the Vocabulary of Irathient, the Grammar of High Valyrian, and the Writing system of Castithan. reading these sections makes me feel that I too can find a way to approach whatever obstacles arise from my own works.
That is all I have to say, each book has its strengths and weaknesses, but I consider all of them to be useful in the self-education of conlanging. I do recommend them; I also recommend searching through linguistic sources mentioned in the books as further education.

Main - We all remember the plane crash of season 8, and the lives that were lost. However, I feel like Lexie’s story was just getting started, and she had many things she could have accomplished. So my main verse for her, which seems odd, is the one in which case the plane crash happened, but not the death. Maybe even Marks, it depends on the person I’m writing with. Lexie went on to specialize in Nero, becoming one of the names that people mentioned in the field, especially after her Brother In Law passed away.
Chasing Cars - Set anytime during seasons 3 through 8 of Grey’s Anatomy. I will keep it mostly canon with her having died in the car crash.
