Who would be best boys/boyfriends in Descendants and why?

I'm gonna have fun with this one lol, I'm going with who would be the best boyfriends. So here in no particular order:

Harry Hook. I say this as a Harry disliker. Loyal, dedicated, protective and probably funny. He's a great combo if you are comfortable w your personal space being invaded 24/7 (I'm not so good night) (I wouldn't have a chance anyway that man is devoted to UMA)

Carlos de Vil. He is sensitive and sweet but extremely intelligent. A bit indecisve and nervous but not to the extent it can become a genuine hinderance. Super supportive and a great comfort if you're feeling down.

Li'l Shang. I mean it would be a crime if I didn't add him. Athletic, kind and a hard worker. He's a good teacher and just wants to help others succeed, that really reflects on a person and their core/values.

Now I would love to add Ben but I can't for one reason: he's too oblivious to other's feelings, he cares more about the big picture which can cause for people to feel neglected. Like take the way he treated Audrey, after the love spell was broken (his behavior during is not his fault) he was very stand offish and ignored her feeling and how she'd be feeling about their break up. Now he treats Mal well but also ignored her feelings on things (D2) and couldn't deduce that his girlfriend would be at least a little uncomfortable at all the changes she had to go through.

What do you think about how the Descendants team treats Lonnie and her family, as well as her culture? I feel like Lonnie has a lot of potential but she was executed poorly and her parents and brother wasn't spared from Descendants butchery. Give your honest thoughts about this.

For starters, Auradon is sexist as fuck. we see that in both books and movies.

In the first movie, Lonnie is portrayed as shallow and obsessed with her looks. That is, firstly disrespectful, because to hell with it if Mulan would raise her daughter to care about nothing but status and looks. On the other hand, it shows just how toxic environment Auradon Prep actually is, how all the girls are pushed to be picture perfect, prissy princesses. Lonnie isn’t really to blame for what happened in d1.

in d2, she faces with social sexism when Chad makes fun of her for wanting to join the team. Maybe girls being on team wasn’t actually forbidden, and eight men thing was a figure of speech or something? The problem is Chad’s comments and lack of proper reactions even though they all saw Lonnie kick Jay’s butt with the sword. That probably wasn’t the first time Lonnie tried out for the team, and probably put faith in Jay not being sexist like the rest of the boys.

Her culture deserves to be included in descendants since it played fairly important part in the books. I think in the third one she goes to China to stop them from going to war with Agrabah. It should’ve been implied in movie canon at the very least. We should’ve been given some explanation to why she wasn’t present during d3. I don’t know much about Chinese names and stuff but Li’l Shang sounds more like a rapper’s name than anything else. I get he’s into sports and stuff but it would be super cool if he became a general in Mulan’s army or something, just like how Lonnie wants to be.

All in all, you’re absolutely right. Lonnie had SO MUCH potential, but like almost every other character, descendants wasted it away.

Do do have any headcannons with Shang Jr, Jamie and their newborn son based on the information I gave you?

Baby Shaiming was in the hospital for much longer than usual after he was born, since he was born prematurely. He was very small. Once Jamie and Shang brought him home, though, he faced no major complications due to being a preemie and developed at a normal, albeit slightly delayed rate.

His birth sort of brought the family together. The entire extended family loved him.

Lonnie made him a tiny stretchie that said "World's Best Nephew." She made herself a shirt that said "World's Best Aunt" to match. She asked Aziz if he wanted a "World's Best Uncle" shirt but he said no.

Whenever Jamie is feeling upset or sad or overwhelmed she holds Shai. Works every time.

The first time Shai laughed Shang Jr. was making silly faces at him. Thereafter, Shang makes a litany of ever-more-ridiculous faces at him multiple times a day to try to get him to laugh again, but it hardly ever works. Shai just stares at him with his big dark eyes and an expression that says "What on earth is my father up to now?" The only one who ends up laughing then is Jamie.

When Shai grows up he is best friends with Helena. Everybody agrees that this is adorable.

Whenever Jamie wakes up early she makes a point of taking a walk with Shai.

Hi! Unfortunately I am aware of Descendants, though I have never seen any movies. Personally I think those movies less canon than direct to DVD sequels, which is one of the reasons why I haven't bothered with them.

Yeah the names are questionable at best and somewhat offending at worst, I actually find some palace pets names sligthly more fitting. For anyone who doesn't now these supposed kids names, they're Lonnie and Li'l Shang.

If you or some people out there like the Descendants movies that's all cool, it's just not my cup of tea and I don't really link them to any Disney movie that it borrows characters from. So long story short in my view Mulan and Shang have no canon children, I don't even consider Mulan 2 canon. I think there's just maybe few short comics that I could see kinda fitting with the first movie's setting, and the sequel I wish more people knew and read is definitely The Palace of Secrets, a visual novel that takes place about a year after the first movie.

Lonnie was politely instructed to attend Aurdon Prep for political stability

She grew up with a heavy military background and plans on joining said army after graduation

Auradon is on the verge of war with China and Sherwood Forest

Lil Shang is working as a spy reporting the workings of Auradon Prep as a coach for China

While Lonnie would perfer that everything remains peaceful due to her close friendship with Ben, if it comes to war, she will side with her home country

Both Lonnie and Li'l Shang want to meet the Huns because they don't deserve the Isle due to Chinese war practices

That's all I have right now for Lonnie!

Any Li sibling headcanons?

- They constantly do play fights where one does kickass martial art moves and the other responds with MORE kickass martial art moves

- A whole spy duo when they wanted a midnight snack, most of the time nobody ever noticed the snacks just 'disappeared'

- Lonnie cried when Li'l went to Auradon and in return Li'l cried when he graduated

- The kind of siblings that ignore each others existence at school/in public, sometimes even fake hating each other for the bit

- Li'l fully planned the suprise attack Lonnie does in D2, teaching her every move she used (he felt so proud when she showed interest in R.O.A.R!)

- Whenever Li'l comes to visit Lonnie makes chocolate chip cookies and tries to scare him when he first arrives

What do you think of this little piece?

It had been over a week, almost two weeks to be exact since Jamilah gave birth to her twins, had to an emergency surgery on her genitals due to a 4th degree birth tear, and recover from her surgery. And now, Jamilah still feel the effects from the birth tear and the surgery that she was unable to come out bed.

With that being said, Jamilah wasn't same after she had her twins, a boy and a girl. During the labour and birth, Jamilah thought that she was going to have a little boy only but, surprisingly, she also gave birth to a little girl right after her brother was born. This came as a shock to Jamilah and her husband, Li'l Shang, who was with her during her labour and birth.

Unfortunately for the young couple, as the twins were born, they immediately were taken to the NICU, never gotten a chance to be held by their parents. What made it even worse was that the neonatologist told Shang, who was completely stressed out and worried about his wife and twins that one of the twins, the baby girl, was highly unlikely to survive. Once Shang heard that, it seems as if that brought more damage to Shang's mental health than it already was.

Shang saw his younger sister, Lonnie lost her baby son, due to stillbirth and went into depression. He didn't want the same happen to him with his daughter.

Jamilah curled up on the middle her bed, sniffling as tears were streaming down on her cheeks. Silence was thick in her bedroom for a moment until she heard Lonnie's baby girl, Jin wailing  on-top of her tiny lungs in her nursery. She also heard Lonnie and Jay were comforting her.

To be completely honest, Jamilah was  jealous. Jealous because she wasn't able to hold her twins as she wanted to, to feed them, kiss them or even join Lonnie and Nina with their babies too. She had to hid herself away from the others because she didn't want them to see her in this condition.  Also, she just had a surgery which caused her to stay in bed most of the time.

Just then, someone climbed into bed, wrapping their arms around Jamilah's waist, holding her close.

Jamilah knew that it was her husband, Shang.

Shang can sense what his wife was going through over the past week. So he held her closer to him.

'It's going to be okay, Jamilah,' he thought.

For backstory:

Shang and Jamilah(daughter of Aladdin) were acquaintances in highschool while Jamilah was dating Chad Charming(it's true that Chad dated many girls). After she failed her chemistry pop quiz test, she asked Mr. Deley if she can restart the test and Mr Deley agreed but he told her that she has the potential to do well in her tests. So, he told her that Shang will be her tutor as Shang was one of the best students in the class. When she was tutored by Shang, she thought that the boy was stoic and serious, as it turns out, he's genuinely nice and very caring. In addition he was patient with Jamilah. While she was still with Chad, she can't help but had a tiny crush on Shang(while her boyfriend was texting other girls without her knowing) but she buried her feelings and saw Shang as a great guy friend.

I don't want to spoil you no more but what do you think of this ship?

Wow, that got really intense real fast! I feel bad for Jamilah, Shang, and Lonnie it sounds like all of them have a lot to deal with

As for the ship that’s a good meet-cute & I appreciate all the details on how their relationship developed; I hope they have a mostly happy life together! Shang comforting Jamilah at the end of the story was nice

Honest thoughts on Lonnie + family?

@cleverqueenchild God, I love Mulan, so I was hoping for more with Lonnie's character, but I don't dislike her by any means. She's easily my favourite AK. I headcanon her a lesbian and girlfriends with Jane, which I think is a really cute little ship. I also like to think that she'd be best friends with Jay, so she hangs out in Jay and Carlos' dorm a lot.

As for her family, I tend to forget she has a brother, which is a mercy since every time I remember the name "Li'l Shang," I want to bury my face in my hands, which is all the comment I have on that djakgjdksg

Overall, great concept, mediocre execution. She deserved better, but so did every single character in the franchise, what can you do lmao

1) i loooooooooooove lonnie she's my girl and everyone's favourite scene the Kitchen Scene TM is such a good place to show her kindness and her compassion

2) i wish we could've seen her with her family rather than have mulan's name tossed around for her reputation

also li'l shang is the stupidest name i have ever heard and any cool bi reawakenings he might've given jay in that r.o.a.r. practice moment were completely drowned out by de la cruz's bad shitty naming. i hate it and lonnie's cool older brother deserves better

3) that said i do like how lonnie followed in her mother's footsteps to join r.o.a.r.!! it shows us her own character agency and how much she looks up to her mother (and in the greater worldbuilding scheme shows us how much auradon really . hasn't improved since the storybook generation's troubles)

4) god i love her friendship with jay. i wish they showed us more tourney because that would have been a Real teamwork moment for the two of them that they could have given us

gonna divert from numbered points because the rest of the thoughts that i have on her are very jumbled :")

her wardrobe in d1 is very in the vein of . it looks vaguely east asian to hammer home that she's Mulan's Daughter and im not any expert in huafu but it feels like one of those things that's just made to Look oriental without much actual thought or research put into it

so that's part of what lands her in the token asian girl category because she's represented as Nebulously East Asian rather than Chinese as she should be, which shows their lack of care for genuine representation and more just to say "hey look the cast isn't entirely white" (further compounded by the fact iirc her actress isn't ethnically chinese? might be wrong don't quote me on that but like booboo isn't swana and they still cast him for the son of jafar so u know. :') not a great track record)

(also these are more personal bitter thoughts from a 3rd gen chinese person who's been into descendants since it came out but when she wanted Cool Hair and they made her hair lighter, longer, and wavy it made 13 y/o me really sad and then further ostracized when she said that mulan would make chocolate chip cookies w her rather than any typical chinese dessert)

and idk how far you guys have read into the books but that one where she dragged ben away to settle a dispute between china and agrabah that was 1) ridiculous 2) petty 3) had both sides be incredibly hostile and obstinate which required the white boy king to step in and hash it out 4) gave ben. bubble tea and a steak as part of Chinese Cuisine. 5) resulted in them DESTROYING PART OF THE GREAT WALL TO PUT A DOOR IN??? . very uncomfortable did not enjoy. the sole redeeming part of this miserable side plot was that it told us that lonnie and ben were childhood friends and i think that's really cute

Do you have any headcanons for Li'l, even if it's one or two?

ok so i haven’t actually read the book where he’s introduced yet, and i usually don’t make headcanons until i’ve been introduced to characters for the sake of not getting basic information wrong. that being said, i have a few from what i know about him.

first of all, i think his name is actually something like sheng, since it’s close to his fathers but not like. disrespectful.

i think he taught lonnie a lot of what she knows about combat. while mulan and shang definitely taught both their kids, they’re busy training actual soldiers and dealing with whatever military business auradon needs (which i think is a lot more than people think, everyone just ignores it). sheng, on the other hand, is two to three years older than her, so he has more free time. it starts as a way to annoy each other (and continues to be like that), but lonnie genuinely wouldn’t be where she is without him.

similar to how harriet is the oldest vks, i think he’s one of the oldest aks.

uh. idk i’ll have more when i actually meet him.
