Your unpopular opinions on Descendants.
Queen Leah is unjustly villainized by the fandom. In the first movie, her role consisted entirely of "being horrified because she genuinely thought Mal was Maleficent and was terrified that she was back for revenge." She did not appear in the second movie. Then in the third movie, yes, she was very harsh to Audrey. But she's not nearly as bad as the fandom makes her out to be. I've seen headcanons/fanfictions of her being solely responsible for every single bad thing Audrey did, actively hating every villain child born on the Isle - you know, the ones not connected to her story at all - and the root cause of the bad conditions on the Isle because she decided to meddle with the supplies the Isle was getting and stop the shipments. Where on earth does it mention that she wants all the Isle kids to stay there forever, and probably die? Where does it say that she is solely at fault for every negative thought Audrey had, and her villain arc? Last I checked, actions were generally the fault of the person who did them. Yes, Leah was harsh to Audrey, and her words were probably what set her off, but clearly this was only the last straw in a set of circumstances that had been building and building for quite some time, likely since Did I Mention! I'm making a post about this. Whenever I get around to finishing it.

Which book kids you'd really love to see come to life and why?
well first is claudine. easily my favorite character. she has no lines. i just want to know what she looks like jfc.
maddy and artie, if only because i love arthuriana and want to see more of this interpretation.
harriet hook. while we’re on that note, actual interaction between the hook siblings. please.
there are probably more, but this is just off the top of my head.

Will there be more princes books in the future? Apart from Eric and Phillip? It doesn't have to be written by you, but I'm very curious. Also, will there be books in the honorary prince's pov? Like Li Shang for example?
There will! I don't know much and what I do know, I do not know if I can share; however, I know the plan was for a Princes series. I really hope they do a Li Shang one because I cannot wait to read it.

Would you be interested in a Descendants story featuring the Auradon kids in their perspective as no one really writes about them?
// Reading it? Yeah! I would be. I don’t really read about them much but I would be interested.

Will you read stories about the AKs and how they're developed? I mean, there's not much people writing about them and I highly highly doubt that the Descendants team will ever use them.
I may, some day. If I ever get around to actually writing out my fic ideas. 💀

Your honest thoughts on Lonnie +family?(i.e her parents and older brother)
Tumblr media
OOPS HELLO. SORRY IM LATE
1) i loooooooooooove lonnie she's my girl and everyone's favourite scene the Kitchen Scene TM is such a good place to show her kindness and her compassion
2) i wish we could've seen her with her family rather than have mulan's name tossed around for her reputation
also li'l shang is the stupidest name i have ever heard and any cool bi reawakenings he might've given jay in that r.o.a.r. practice moment were completely drowned out by de la cruz's bad shitty naming. i hate it and lonnie's cool older brother deserves better
3) that said i do like how lonnie followed in her mother's footsteps to join r.o.a.r.!! it shows us her own character agency and how much she looks up to her mother (and in the greater worldbuilding scheme shows us how much auradon really . hasn't improved since the storybook generation's troubles)
4) god i love her friendship with jay. i wish they showed us more tourney because that would have been a Real teamwork moment for the two of them that they could have given us
gonna divert from numbered points because the rest of the thoughts that i have on her are very jumbled :")
her wardrobe in d1 is very in the vein of . it looks vaguely east asian to hammer home that she's Mulan's Daughter and im not any expert in huafu but it feels like one of those things that's just made to Look oriental without much actual thought or research put into it
so that's part of what lands her in the token asian girl category because she's represented as Nebulously East Asian rather than Chinese as she should be, which shows their lack of care for genuine representation and more just to say "hey look the cast isn't entirely white" (further compounded by the fact iirc her actress isn't ethnically chinese? might be wrong don't quote me on that but like booboo isn't swana and they still cast him for the son of jafar so u know. :') not a great track record)
(also these are more personal bitter thoughts from a 3rd gen chinese person who's been into descendants since it came out but when she wanted Cool Hair and they made her hair lighter, longer, and wavy it made 13 y/o me really sad and then further ostracized when she said that mulan would make chocolate chip cookies w her rather than any typical chinese dessert)
and idk how far you guys have read into the books but that one where she dragged ben away to settle a dispute between china and agrabah that was 1) ridiculous 2) petty 3) had both sides be incredibly hostile and obstinate which required the white boy king to step in and hash it out 4) gave ben. bubble tea and a steak as part of Chinese Cuisine. 5) resulted in them DESTROYING PART OF THE GREAT WALL TO PUT A DOOR IN??? . very uncomfortable did not enjoy. the sole redeeming part of this miserable side plot was that it told us that lonnie and ben were childhood friends and i think that's really cute

Dude in yellow: Genie.
Other dude: Coach Jenkins (canon).
Explanation: it said somewhere Genie was a teacher so since most of the coaches I knew doubled as a teacher, I figured he was this dude. Also I thought it would be funny because I saw a theory that Coach Jenkins was the Genie in this fanfiction and no one ever really mentions this dude, so I asked myself 'WHAT IF HE WAS THE GENIE' like I was in an episode of watcher.
I'm also just lazy and couldn't really picture him as one of the mentioned teachers. So...
Also ngl people don't write enough about Coach Jenkins, the one true MVP adult in descendants and that's a shame.

Warrior - Mai Ling | Another Side Of Her (character study)
Rating: T (tw for referenced character death)
Word count: 544
Summary: "That look in the eye changed completely, perhaps this is also a side of me"
— FLOWER, Jisoo
Tumblr media
There are nights Mai Ling finds herself wide awake, and for a variety of reasons. It can either be: her guilt from ordering Ah Sahm's death, her alliance with the Fung Hai, or maybe just something else.
Mai Ling lets go of Li Yong's warm embrace as she gets up and goes to her dresser. Seated in front of her vanity, she reaches into a drawer and retrieves a petite notebook. She opens the notebook and reaches for a pen from the same drawer, closing it immediately afterward.
Whenever things get overwhelming, Mai Ling would usually just write down what's in her head in her notebook. Tonight seemed different though. A plethora of thoughts ran through her mind, and she couldn't seem to sort them out.
Instead, she rests her head on her hands as she sighs deeply. She looks at herself in her mirror, and tries to analyze herself.
Mai Ling wasn’t the same girl she was a few years ago when she was in China. She could see it in her eyes, that look inside them changed completely.
Perhaps this could also be a side of her?
The woman ponders at herself a little more as she begins to think about what she has done since she came to America.
Sure, she may have done what she had to do so she could never be that same helpless, abused, and abandoned girl she once was. At the same time, she wonders if all that she had done was worth it.
She may be free from her suffering, but it cost her so much - even the things that were dear to her heart. She lost everything that mattered to her - her brother, her father, and even her dear home.
Mai Ling then turns the notebook’s pages to reveal a couple pieces of rice paper, folded and tucked between the pages. She takes both of them, and unfolds one of them to reveal what looks to be a letter.
As she reads the text, tears slowly begin to fall from her eyes as she tries to process what she was reading. And then, a realization hit her. It was a letter that her younger self wrote, for her present self.
No, this was not how Mai Ling thought she would turn out. She is far from this.
Although she always imagined she’d end up here in America one day, this was not how she thought she would. She could have been anything, but this.
As she finishes reading the letter, she folds it back before tucking it between the pages and taking the other piece of folded paper. She unfolds it, to reveal a rough but artfully drawn sketch of her family.
It looked so perfect. Both her grandparents, parents, Ah Sahm, and herself - all in one frame. Oh, how Mai Ling wished it would still be the same today, just them living peacefully and happily in China.
Sometimes, Mai Ling asks herself, “What if things turned out differently? What if grandmother and grandfather didn’t die, mother didn’t leave us, and I didn’t have to marry Sun Yang?”
But as her mother used to tell her, “Things happen for a reason.” But what reason? That is the question.
A question left unanswered, until now.

I've noticed that you've been posting lots of Coco posts recently and I have to ask, what draws you to the movie so much? Mind you, I never watched the movie.
I've never watched the movie either! Yet I'm totally into it anyway! As you have noticed!
I've just read the novelizations. Both of them. And the script. And seen way too many GIFs and analyzations and theories and of course fanfiction about it.
....Yeah, I'm way too into it.
I'm actually not sure what draws me to it so much.
It's, like, a family that all loves each other, but they were hurt, and made mistakes, but their love for each other didn't change, and they grew stronger from it.
And the tragedy of Hector dying miles from home and his family never found out what happened to him. And that this had such an impact on Coco that nearly a century later, in her dotage, as her mind faded, the one point in her life she was stuck at was "When is Papa coming home?"
And that Hector's songs were stolen from him and his most treasured, private one, a lullaby for his daughter, was twisted and changed into something totally unrecognizable.
But that same lullaby, in its true version, awakened Coco and brought her back to herself.
And that Imelda was so impacted by Hector's apparent betrayal that she refused to ever hear music again.
And this ban on music lasted 95-97 years, because her daughter and granddaughters and great-grandchildren loved and respected her that much.
And that Miguel was talented enough to 1. teach himself to play the guitar, 2. build a guitar in the first place, and 3. sing and play the real Remember Me for Coco after hearing Hector only sing it one time.
And that Hector and Miguel both love Coco more than anything.
And that Imelda calls Hector the love of her life while confronting his murderer.
And how Miguel was willing to give up music for his family, near the end.
And how Imelda and Hector ultimately both give him a blessing without that condition - without any conditions.
And how Hector finally, after so many futile attempts, was reunited with his family and got to cross the bridge.
And, well, everything. All of it speaks to me. I don't even know why. Just...all of it.
Because of Coco, I've recently started getting interested in Mexican history and culture; I've started learning Spanish, and Coco is half the reason why. (The other half is Encanto, lol.)
There's just so much to it-
I don't even know. ;P

Have any headcanons on Lonnie+family?
i do! i haven’t read all the books, so i don’t have much of an opinion on li’l shang, other than it’s a terrible name.
but i do have stuff for lonnie!
i saw someone say her full name is lanying and lonnie is a nickname. i don’t remember who it was, but i’ve kinda adopted it since then.
she’s a lesbian.
she’s always loved exploring her home’s gardens, and her and her mother care for animals together.
she wants to host a talk show eventually, because she loves talking to people. that, or be a professional fighter.
mushu loves babysitting her, but because of him, she’s learned to get away with a lot of stuff. do not trust them together.
her and her grandmother cook a lot.
she tries to learn every fighting style she can.
she stress bakes.
she’s good at archery, but it isn’t her favorite
she never backs away from a fight. very competitive.
she’s great at parkour and stuff. she can move around without touching the floor if she wanted.
she owns an ungodly amount of stuffed animals on her bed. she could make an entire bed out of stuffed animals.
she loves riding horses, and kind of hates cars are more common (and convenient).
she keeps her hair short like her mother’s hair. i will forever stand by short hair lonnie. The hair department for the movies sucked. have you seen those wigs? awful.
her and mulan play mon-jongg together. her grandfather bets on their games.
her parents gave her her own sword when she was accepted at auradon prep.

I don't know if you're gonna see this question but will there be more Disney princes/heroes stories based off the Twisted Tales series?
Hey! There will! As of right now, the next confirmed book is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from Prince Phillip's perspective. :)

About Bal...
Saw @cleverqueenchild  reblog an anon I sent in a long time ago to Dani and it got me thinking even now I still don’t know how Ben and Mal fell so DEEPLY in love with each other when they mutually don’t know much about each other. Mind you I’m a 20 year who hasn’t even held hands with somebody before so maybe it’s my lack of experience but the things they are known to like about each other aren’t even very specific to them. Anybody can be nice, anybody can walk around breaking the rules so what feelings did they have for each other that was so deep it was true love and justified marriage right out of high school? Like damn I see more reasons for them NOT to like each other than to be in love. Even though they tried to make it obvious that Ben was attracted to Mal before the spell, but thinking about it to me unless she did spell him I don’t see how they were ever even going to get together. I wouldn’t think about it so deeply if we really saw the process of them taking it slow and falling in love because then it would be like of course, they don’t know so much about it each other they’re getting to know each other while dating. But no they werent even actually together a year in D2 before it was ‘true love’’s kissing for them and with Mal keeping secrets and Ben officially taking over the Kingdom I doubt they actually got to know each other deeply in that time period.
