Forbidden || Meet The Characters - Wanda Maximoff

Tumblr media
I'm not as bad as the people make me out to be. They see a 'weird' and quiet person who keeps to themselves and suddenly I am some witch who beheads anybody who steps foot on my property. They aren't wrong, about the witch part. I don't behead people, that's crazy. But I enjoy witchcraft, some may not believe the magic you can do and others, well, most, just think you're crazy.
Of course, I don't do things that'll bring harm to people, but I do get a little kick out of seeing the look on their faces when you throw them that one tiny glare. The whispers and the way they pick their feet up quickly just to get away from me is funny to me. I know who I am, and I don't need them to tell me who I am.
I live in a little cottage close to Redpeaks, right on the edge of the coastline. Nobody bothers me here besides my brother, Pietro when he gets home from work. He works at the gun store in Olsen, but mostly likes doing one-off ranch work for those seeking an extra pair of hands. He can never sit still long enough to do one thing, he's always off doing something.
Although there's much talk about me and I don't mind finding some fun in it, it is lonely. I have never done anything to make people genuinely afraid of me and most people just believe the talk. I try to help people where I can, I give money to charities and those begging. I don't ask for praises because that's not how I do it, I do it because I want to. But, with the talk of others, people are too quick to run from me or stay clear as I walk the street. They drove me out of town the moment they heard my parents died, I am an outsider and I am isolated away from everyone as they wished. But I am not the evil they say I am, I am not.
Children play games around my home, I see them, I hear them. I hear their giggles and "I heard she's this" talk and while they are children, I wish they wouldn't be so afraid of me. Sometimes I leave out bread for them to take home but that usually gets thrown back at my home and they make jokes of how the food is cursed and they would probably turn into a rat if they ate it.
Not all the people around me are cruel, the Bishop girls are kind to me. They always wave and say hello whenever they see me walking by their ranch. Y/n is so sweet, she is always so happy to greet me and sometimes even comes running to the fence with left over food she doesn't want to go to waste! I have a painting she did for me hanging above my bed, it's a beautiful painting of Talon's lake. That girl has an eye for beauty! Kate is just as lovely, both girls have been brought up so well. I often see Kate and their dog hunting in Redpeaks on my walk to town, I always carry some treats with me for Lucky as I walk by.
Well, that's me for now. Have a wonderful day, please don't be afraid to say hi!

Starfield Tips/Things I Wish I Knew Earlier
Starfield is honestly amazing if you like this kind of game, but it does seem to be pretty invested in letting you figure out how it works on your own by experimentation. And it's very easy to overlook features of the game.
So...
The traits that give you parents, a fan, and a house are really neat. You get some cool stuff from them. I only did the parents but damn I'm glad I did. So consider these.
You can make your spacesuit and helmet automatically disappear if you're in breathable atmosphere/in a settlement. This way you don't have to worry about taking them off and on and potentially leaving your ship without them. And you don't look like a dork in town. The option is in the inventory page for each of them.
You can boost/sprint when floating. This is important in the Certain Plot Relevant Places.
There is a part of New Atlantis called The Well with a bunch of people and shops and you get to it from an unmarked elevator behind Jemison Merchantile in the Spaceport (or the unmarked elevator in the MAST transit station.) I played 30 hours before I found this out.
Read the skills closely, including the locked ones. Multiple times I put points in the wrong thing, thinking it would let me do things, when that was actually a different skill elsewhere.
Don't avoid the UC Vanguard questline. A lot of people I think are avoiding it because it's joining the military on a side that is a little sketchy/sus, but there's a lot of reasons to do this EARLY.
There's a museum you go through that gives you the entire lore background and recent history of the world
There's a flight simulator "test" you can take as much as you want to practice the space combat.
The storyline is REALLY REALLY good. (um, warning for horror elements) There are two different quest lines it opens and one also opens access to joining the Crimson Fleet faction.
7. When you upgrade your pilot skill it unlocks using thrusters in space flight. These let you maneuver without moving forward, so you are way more agile in combat. Use RB with a controller, IDK what the keyboard thingy is. But they're actually great. You hold down the button and then move sideways or up and down. Makes moving to new targets much better.
8. Weapons have different levels. Base which just has the name and then Calibrated, Refined, and Advanced. So pay attention and pick up the higher level ones. If you get a good advanced gun early you can use it and upgrade it for EVER. There's also rarity levels, which is the colored things. But that's about bonus effects. So you might get a really shitty gun with a Legendary bonus effect and it's still trash. If you get a high level weapon with a good bonus effect TREASURE IT.
9. Certain quests give you really good items, including SHIPS. IMO the best ship to get is the one from the Freestar Rangers.
10. Once you get a house you can build in it just like in an outpost. Also you can drop things from your inventory into an outpost or a house and then in build mode move that item around onto shelves, etc.
11. There is Universal time and Planet time. So if you wait or sleep, depending on where you are that may count as more time passing than what you chose. All shops refresh their money and inventory in 48 hours UT, but on Jemison, for example, that's only 24 hours of planet time.
12. Ship building can be intense and intimidating but it's really really worth it. You can always cancel out and undo what you did, so experiment. And when in doubt, add more engines, lol. (But really you want to add cargo space ASAP and then you need more engines, and then you end up wanting whole new ships.) Different ports have different makers of parts, and the best items are in the home port for each brand.
13. Unlocking the Ship Targeting skill is a game changer for space combat. It lets you lock on and then slows down time while you pummel the enemy's ship systems. If you take our their engines, and they are alone you can then dock with them and fight them and take their ship. Space piracy FTW.
14. If you get contraband avoid cities. Go to the Wolf System to The Den to sell it. This is very lucrative. At the slight price of your personal integrity.
15. As a general rule if something is sucking, you need to find the skill for it and invest points in it. This is true for piloting, scanning, boost packs, etc. They really made the skill trees count and be necessary in this game. Also surveying planets is really good XP actually. To help you get those points.
16. Speaking of surveying, if you are trying to complete a planet you need to visit all the biomes. If you click on the planet it will tell you the percent complete of that biome before landing. If you have one lone fauna left that fucker is probably in the ocean so look for COAST.
17. When placing outposts make sure there's not a lot of annoying mountains in it, and also you really want to prioritize sites with He-3 because you need it to really do anything. (Helium, iron, aluminum are the most important to build with.) And you have a limited number of outposts without taking a high level skill to get more.
That's all I can think of for now.

I feel this is a little mean, but the Youtube Theory Crew feel like they are way behind Tumblr Theory Crew in both breadth and depth of their analysis of the game.
You know what? Fair.
I mean, some of those people are actually on tumblr (Dorked at least) and there are specific which I'd say some of them have covered more in-depth than any tumblr posts I've at least seen. For example, there's HalfBreadChaos's element video, Jaru's shadow crystal video, and Andrew Cunningham has what is in my mind the definitive DeltaRune narrator video with everything we have as of Chapter 2.
But I can definitely see where you're coming from. Like, on the one hand, I think the tumblr theory community can be so wide in their breadth (partly because it's a lot easier to justify typing up a rambly tumblr post about random details than scripting recording and editing a whole YouTube video about such details) that there's probably a lot of stuff it gets obsessed over that isn't really relevant. But it does also allow for catching on to things the YouTube theorists miss; like, no one's made a video focused on the water stuff in DeltaRune yet as far as I know (though the original ocean.gg observation that originally led me down that road was brought to my attention by a HalfBreadChaos video). Maybe I'll be the one to do that. Maybe.
And in terms of character analysis in particular, I think the tumblr theory community has the YouTube theory community beat by a mile. Not to say I'd agree with the takes of everyone in the tumblr community, but it at least feels like there's a lot more thought and focus on it here. Like, I don't think I've ever seen a Youtube video that really Gets Noelle, Susie, Ralsei, or the Kris - Susie - Noelle dynamics the way certain people here on tumblr do (though if people have recs, I'd love to hear them!). I'm pretty sure tumblr caught on to the idea that "hey, maybe Kris's red eyes and knife trick doesn't mean they're going to go around killing everyone in Chapter 2" way faster than YouTube did.
And while I haven't watched, say, Jaru's Spamton analysis video (and I get how it must suck to put so much into a project like that only for a bunch new canon info to drop and potentially upend a lot of it), that's because of how turned off I was by his Frisk & Chara takes and other vids I've vagueposted about here.
(Also the fact that Jaru made that whole Frisk - Chara - Kris video and just casually implied via attributing a line of narration to Frisk that he hadn't even heard of NarraChara? Like, it's one thing to not believe it, but to just take for granted that Frisk is narrator implies he did literally zero research on other people's takes on Chara that would have least made him question that.)
(Also he made a video about whether DeltaRune was a different timeline or an entirely separate universe to UT and decided it was a different timeline because otherwise there was no way to justify how similar the two were, only to admit later that he hadn't even thought of the alternate explanation of them being parallel universes? A very popular sci-fi concept? And, even worse, when people were bringing it up in the comments, he refused to give it genuine consideration until it was the only way to make his Sans theory work? Like, how am I supposed to believe you're actually willing to be proven wrong like you say you are after that?)
The only exceptions to this character analysis point in my mind are Dorked, who, again, is also a tumblr person, and Andrew Cunnigham's videos on Kris specifically. He gets them.
It was interesting listening to those podcast videos and seeing the places where I heartily agreed with the Youtubers' takes (like how most of them agreed that pianpian does not disprove that Kris can play piano - though they were mainly countering another YouTuber, Two Left Thumbs, in that section), and then the places where I was kind of disappointed by their analysis. Like, my man Andrew being kind of surprised at Noelle's growing relevance to the story, as if she isn't equal with Kris in being at the thematic center of the narrative (in my opinion anyway).
And then the whole thing where they were talking about how the dark worlds work and largely seemed to come to a consensus that their histories are backloaded in when the fountains are made... I talked about this in a tumblr server already so I'll just copy-paste that. For context, someone else brought up the topic and was talking about how they dislike the theory because:
there's no way to prove it or disprove it. Very simply: if they darkworlds didn't exist before they were made then there would be no NARRATIVE reason to have it be a function of them to just make shit up about their histories. Functionally it is identical to if they had always existed.
To which I added:
"i feel like making it so the dark worlds only exist when a fountain's made also takes agency away from the darkners in a way that makes them less compelling as characters. "like, when i posted about how noelle's interactions with spamton as detailed in the bluecircle secret page is pretty good proof that spamton and, by extension, the dark worlds, were around before the fountain, there were a few people in the notes who said they hold to the other theory and that the dark worlds were just drawing on that history when making spamton. "and i didn't response to any of them, but, like... that's just less interesting to me. i like the idea that spamton, as a character with agency, was reaching out to lightners and had this moment of connection with noelle. if they were actually just random emails that later "became spamton" or whatever... first of all, it really doesn't feel like it's written that way, the writing makes it feel like those emails were sent by someone with some agency, and secondly... it's lame. imo."
I get that it complicates our understanding of what the fountains actually do (Queen does say the Knight "deigned to create this world" that day, for example) and the exact relation between the darkners as characters and the items they're supposedly derived from, so I wouldn't necessarily say it's the easier, obvious answer... but at this point, if you actually look at all the evidence, I think it has to be some variant of "the darkners have always been sentient in some form and the dark worlds existed in some form before the Knight started making fountains". And a lot of tumblr people already figured that out, for both that reason and the more thematic reason I talked about.
And this is all without talking about the wide gulf between UT tumblr and YouTube theorists. Like, there are genuinely great UT analysis vids, talking not just about lore, but characters and themes. But, like, you know that tumblr post that goes ""undertale's meaning finally explained" actually, youtube man, tumblr user girl16378 figured it out years ago"? That post is spot on.
TL;DR, the tumblr and YouTube UT/DR theory communities have different strengths and weaknesses. They're both huge, and there are great thinkers and shitty takes in both, so your impression of both is gonna largely come down to which creators you happen to see.
That being said, I totally get it, anon.
(also subscribe to andrew cunningham and halfbreadchaos. and dorked. do it.)

Yeah! In the end WoLs are very personal to the players so I try to remember and not to be too judgey about it! And yeah there are some WoLs I really love as well! And my own was originally just a vague self insert with the name of an old OC and then they took a life of their own so I renamed them .. xD
Regarding wishing there was more freedom in choices in 14: I think that as an MMO there are just some limitations people just have to accept. The msq is linear for sure though I don't know if that's just because 1) it's Final Fantasy first and foremost, 2) it's a jrpg first and foremost (different game design philosophy between JP and US?) You certainly can't have multiple outcomes, I think, especially not with 14's infamous spaghetti coding. And the team already have so many tasks... (reason why I'm just rolling with the gender unlocking of certain glams being slow)
Though, I've never played an MMO prior to this, and most western RPGs don't interest me. So my lack of frame of reference is probably another reason why I can't really fathom choice freedom similar to, say, Dragon Age, in an MMO in general, esp not one as linear as 14 ... poyo.
(I could do with more fiddling around with GW2 tho, I do enjoy it whenever I boot it up for fun)
HAHAHA YOU AND I BOTH if it's. not obvious that "gourd appraiser" wasnt meant to be. well. youre so right suddenly theyre alive what can we do but give them the reins.
and for sure. I'm really mostly okay with xiv's linearity and rigidity; I think they wanted to tell a certain story and told it. I actually dunno if that's a western/eastern design philosophy and don't think choice/branching narratives is necessarily not a jrpg element but the concept of it with games like for sure DA or UT or even older text rpgs whatever have really popularized it here yeah. in xiv theres obviously some parts where im like He would naht do/say that. or some parts I wish weren't in the msq at all. but for the most part I'm glad things turned out the way they did and I've never struggled too hard to work with it. i think it'd sit wrong with me if the story went another way, if the wol like, just said I don't owe anyone anything and everyone shouldnt ask a thing of me and ran forever.
but that's mostly because I fell hook line and sinker for the world so when anyone in the story is like do you want to keep going and keep this world alive I'm like of fucking course AND it's going to be fun you don't even need to ASK bro. while for others I do understand the sort of disappointment that comes with thinking this could have gone another way that they would have liked better, but the devs chose this way, so they feel like they were robbed of that different outcome. and to me they chose this one because they wanted to tell a story about caring about others and finding hope in others and struggling together towards a better future in a world that is largely hostile to that, that constantly gravitates towards its doom, and I really like that. I like how it reflects in their own dev experience having to reboot the game too! but some people feels like it rings hollow, or they don't really care for that sort of thing, or this spirit just doesnt reach them, and well...wat can you do.
and you're definitely right in that mmos simply cant handle diversity of choice in a game meant to support..well..massively multiplayer online play. at most you get factions which are notoriously clunky and seem to only function in games without a strong central narrative. if 50% of the playerbase said fuck off to minfilia, fuck off hydaelyn, you can't tell me what to do, and went to live a low-stakes life then. that's 50% of the playerbase that needs something other than all the dungeons, trials, deliveries, sidequests, raids, pretty much fucking everything to do, that aren't gonna be a part of the roulette. and they wouldn't have been able to pull off the concept of azem's magic either, the weird living idea that as players of the same character you all walk the same path and thus are always at each other's side. or the funnier route would be well everyone who wanted to play gets the kino ass "shepherd to the stars in the dark" shit and everyone who didnt to play can just sit on their hands I guess.
but i dont think people actually expect it to have branching paths, they just wanted the devs to choose a different one. but there's so many good and fun things throughout the entirety of the game that it'd honestly feel pretty lonely to lose all of this over a nebulous refusal to owe anyone anything and be owed anything, because the wol does go through some painful stuff and has some high expectations placed on them...AS IFFFF everyone in the story doesnt suffer and struggle against the same things while the wol has the privilege of controlling more of their luck, AS IFFFFFFFFFF choosing a path where you say fuck everyone else wouldn't have been empty and boring. as if the antagonists that apparently care about us more don't have wishes and goals and duties and lives of their own and are only made to love you in some made up but easier, purer, assured way.
and oh hee hee gw2...I saw a golden chicken in that game and logged off forever I was like this is it. but I'm playing gw1 (slowly) with friends and while it's still campaigns it definitely does excel in that look at this big ass world go do what you want thing. and yeah mmos are fucking...expensive and terribly difficult to make and keep alive. there's a reason they're just dying out

(1/4, Sorry in advance for how long this is) This feels strange. I've read all of PT, so when DR Ch2 came out I was excited, but it didn't feel right. Yes, Queen and Spamton are now two of my favourite UT/DR characters, and Susie was great, especially hometown interactions and bonding with Toriel. I also made sure not to compare it to PT and just think about as a continuation of Ch1, but overall it felt...wrong?
(2/4) I think it was too meme-y/joke-y and a lot of the jokes felt predictable (parody jokes that I see so often, they're becoming a cliché themselves) so they lost their punch a bit. PT still had a sense of humour, but it was a different kind and the story was the main focus. I even replayed DR Ch1 before starting Ch2 and that felt as good as I remembered.
(3/4) It also felt a bit hostile. I don't think that was Toby's intent (Except for weird route ofc), the "Your choices don't matter" has been a thing since DR Ch1 and PT, but it didn't feel in-your-face there. Maybe it felt fine in PT because the player barely featured, so those false choices rarely came up. It feels unwelcoming, but maybe that's the point.
(4/4) For context I liked Earthbound, UT, DR Ch1 and similar games, but it seems DR is going in a direction I don't want to follow. Thats fine, I'm just surprised it happened. I know its not fair to compare an incomplete game to a finished comic, but I actually prefer PT over canon. In other words, well done! Side note: When Lancer appeared in Queen's jail and his theme played, I sat for a minute before continuing. All his dialogue was gold, that's when I realised how much I missed my bouncy boy
(5/4) I'd also like to say thank you for your work and this ask box, it must take a lot of time and effort to do the stuff you do. I know you're preparing for your next project, but try and take a break sometime soon, you've earnt it.
I did end up liking chapter two a bunch, and I'm very interested to see where the rest of the story goes in canon! I'm not sure how hostile the narrative will be towards the player in the future, and I do wonder if it might become more hostile with future chapters, but at the same time I think that can be an interesting experience to explore in a game.
I think perhaps the humor is easy for people to meme (all the GET THE BANANA jokes are a prime example), but I don't know if it's necessarily meme-y? I guess that's a nebulous category anyway. I'll admit I'm a total sucker for that "stock explosion noise and sprite" that Toby uses a lot; it gets me every time.
And yeah, since the game's not complete yet, I hope that too many people don't do that as a comparison to PT, which is finished! Either way, I'm very glad that you liked PT, and that you at least have that story for yourself!! Thanks very much for the kind words!

Some big thoughts on Asriel? Not sure if he counts as two separate characters (as himself and as Flowey), considering how much time and turmoil changes him, so pick one or both as you like.
ooh ok!! i guess ill answer for both of them as i see fit?? going with ut!azzy here since he is Absent in dr (send me a character)
First impression: first impression of flowey is There Is Something Wrong With You. first impression of asriel is oh god you're just a baby aren't you. you're just play acting at being evil oh no babyyy
Impression now: is, in fact, A Baby.
Favorite moment: the second stage true pacifist final boss is a pretty obvious one i think but also, like cmon. "YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE WHO'S ANY FUN TO PLAY WITH ANYMORE! SO STOP FIGHTING AND JUST... LET ME... WIN!"
because specifically like, look at that contrasted with, say, the photoshop flowey fight. PSflowey is confident, controlling, twisting the game world and mocking you all the while, fully aware that you remember every rewrite. even flowey's earlier dialogue ("i am the prince of this world's future... but don't worry, my little monarch, my plan isn't regicide") or earlier points in that same fight ("every time you die, your grip on this world slips away...") you can see him, throughout the TP fight, slowly turning back into asriel. or more accurately, shedding the layers he's built up as flowey and being himself again. he's not some calculating evil being trying to rewrite history – he's a little boy and he wants his best friend back. and he's the most powerful being in the universe. it makes me Feel Things ok
Idea for a story: hmm. maybe... frisk falls into the underground much earlier in the timeline, before flowey has a chance to get Super Evil? that could be fun to play around with. ooh, especially if you time it for when flowey is starting to play around with being crueller, and now he's having this whole internal debate between the part of him that's starting to turn disenchanted with the whole resetting-to-be-nice thing and the part that still wants to be good
Unpopular opinion: idk what opinions people have but i guess like... flowey isn't irredeemable or anything. like he may be "soulless" but that doesn't mean he's Incurably Evil, he's just very very mentally set in the track of "nothing matters, i'll just do whatever i can think of to maybe feel something, anything"
also, fucking hell, can you imagine being trapped in a world where you can rewrite reality with a thought, do effectively whatever you want, and you also can't feel a thing? you have the power of a god and it means nothing? no matter what you do, what you choose... it's just empty? for who knows how long? that's INCREDIBLY FUCKED UP
Favorite relationship: uhh... aside from the obvious him and chara, maybe him and the player? because he's able to talk directly to us, and seems to sort of understand what we are, and has some meta knowledge about it, but he's also inescapably trapped in the game, and it's unclear if he even understands the level of removed that we are. he knows about saves, about resetting, but does he know that we're... not a part of his world at all? that this isn't some rogue soul but a vessel? or does he only see us in the context of his world, because he can't imagine beyond it yet
Favorite headcanon: i also wanna know what's up with him and papyrus. there's A Thing there.
