7, 8 and 17 for the ask game!
[ ask game here! ] - ty cake >:D
7. what's the last thing you read that made you cry?
my mark for my first spanish translation coursework uhh i don't actually know off the top of my head. i haven't read many fandom things recently, and certainly nothing that has actually brought on tears... maybe this is a sign haha
8. bed sharing or roommates au?
bed sharing, probably. it's just funnier to me. throwing their hands up in the air because 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S ONLY ONE, WE BOOKED A DOUBLE' 'yeah a... a double bed it seems, not room...' (i'm writing that down, nice one helia) and i don't think i've ever done a roommates au myself. the tension's just different (and juicier mwahaha)
17. describe a fic that is still in the 'ideas' stage
i'll be here for a decade. and that's just picking the fic lmao. but... sure! i spun a wheel for this haha :')
so, a fun idea i've had that comes and goes is a highwayman au. i feel like it's an aspect of english history that i've not actually seen done in fandom, but i think it suits Arthur nicely - similarly to how the pirate image suits him. it's that romanticisation of the dangerous and deadly. the rogue who ventures the english countryside on horseback, holding carriages at gunpoint, stealing from the rich, running from the law... it was one of my favourite things from studying GCSE History: Crime & Punishment. will always recommend Horrible Histories' Dick Turpin song for something silly and light-hearted lmao.
back to the fic: of course, one night, mr. highwayman Kirkland might just happen on the carriage of, say... the son of a foreign ambassador. and perhaps Arthur does his work as normal, and perhaps his victim gains a morbid fascination with the perpetrator... or maybe Arthur finds himself not wanting to steal away money and jewels, for once, but a far greater prize. how much would a ransom be, he wonders...
my instinct would naturally be to go with engspa for this fic. maybe that's obvious in hindsight haha. Antonio would be the kind to put up some kind of fight, wanting to defend his family, his honour, his wealth, etc etc. he wouldn't just hand anything over. the back-and-forth would be funny, but Antonio may also see some kind of charm in this mysterious rogue. it's the sort of exchange that could see Toni slung over a horse fairly fast,, wink wonk ;3
but i also think it could lead to an interesting dynamic with Port, who i feel would almost just hand over what he has to Arthur because frankly he doesn't want to be in the miserable country anyway so maybe this will convince his father to let him go home (finally). which is actually quite funny. and if Arthur could promise him adventure, or prove that England isn't all misery, maybe, for a night, Port might just follow him to a tavern, or to a room above an inn...
two options. anyone steal it and i bite your toes >:)
(anyway, i'd say it'd be something short, but you know me. if i start it, it'll unravel and become a 50 chapter work somehow haha,, a whole adventure!)

Link to spreadsheet, if you’re interested in how many people voted for what: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DDMPaccm08RYeUlhDRdOu0AmtE_n8d5YJzppTnzzJZQ/edit?usp=sharing
Where do the scores come from?
Each song was given two separate scores - one for questions 1-4 (Which is favourite, which is your least favourite, which ones do you like the most, which ones do you like the least) and one for question five (Rank each song 1-5)
Questions 1-4: Each song was given 1 point for each favourite vote, 1 point for each ‘like most’ vote, -1 point for each least favourite and -1 for each ‘like least’. This was then divided by 58 (The number of people who did the survey) for score one. With this method, given that people could vote for the same song in multiple questions, it was technically possible to achieve a score of over 1 (although only one song managed to do this - Dick Turpin had a score one of 1.0345)
Question 5: Each song was given: -1 for a 1, -0.5 for a 2, +0 for a 3, +0.5 for a 4 and +1 for a 5. This was then divided by the amount of people who gave a score (This had to be calculated separately for each song, as not everyone answered all/any of this question) for score two
The final score was an average of score one and score two
I made the scoring system this complicated because I didn’t think anywhere near as many people would answer the survey as did, so I figured I might have songs with the same score. As it turned out, I was being convoluted for no reason whatsoever :)
Question 1: Which song would you say is your favourite?
Tumblr media
I mentioned a little while back that no one can agree on the best song, but everyone agrees on the shit ones. This is what I meant by that. The only song I’d say gets a large quantity of the votes is Dick Turpin, and it’s still quite a small slice. Compare that to...
Question 2: Which song would you say is your least favourite?
Tumblr media
This one basically confirmed an assumption I had going into this - that Series 1 has the worst songs by a country mile. When over 3/4 of people answering the survey said that their least favourite song was from 1 of 5 potential series, it’s not gonna look great for that one series
Question 3: Which songs do you like the most? (Pick as many as you want)
Tumblr media
(Click for better quality)
It was clear just looking at this one that Dick Turpin was gonna win. Right from the start it was head and shoulders above the rest. The rest were more up and down
Question 4: Which songs do you like the least? (Pick as many as you want)
Tumblr media
(Click for better quality)
Oh Series 1, you poor, poor bastard. I find it interesting that the songs that got 0 zero votes aren’t always the ones right at the top of this list - e.g. The Blue-Blooded Blues is middling, and yet no one voted for it here (Of course, not many voted for it in question 3 either)
Question 5: What score would you give each song 1-5?
If I showed an individual bar chart for each song, this post would be a mile long (Besides, I’m planning on doing a gifset for each song in the future, so I’ll put them there). Instead, have fun with this:
Tumblr media
(Blue is 1, Red is 2, Yellow is 3, Green is 4, Orange is 5)
This just followed the pattern established in the other questions - Series 1 is the only place where the red line is above yellow green and orange. It does also proove that the people answering the survey were overall more positive than negative, so that was nice :)
Random other thing: Series ranked by average score
Series 3 (Score: 0.4119)
Series 5 (Score: 0.4020)
Series 2 (Score: 0.3255)
Series 4 (Score: 0.3126)
Series 1 (Score: -0.1436)

What about ghosts watching horrible histories? The era of history most of the ghosts are from are represented on that show.
I have a feeling that at first (once Alison realises what Mike is trying to tell her and has a massive breakdown/giggle fit, depending on her mood that day), the two humans would be really careful not to have it on if any of the ghosts are near, not wanting to explain why there are people who look like them.
But then, one day, Alison leaves the TV on to distract the ghosts while she deals with an Alive Human ProblemTM and a rerun is aired.
Perhaps it's only Kitty watching and suddenly getting very excited at seeing her friends on the big magic window and running off to ask where they are and if she can join in, and then finding Robin playing chess and them both causing absolute havoc, screaming in both excitement and confusion, then running to find the others until everyone is crowded around the sofa watching with rapt attention as their dopplegangers run around making fools of themselves, making silly jokes about periods of time they lived through.
Pat definitely loves The Shouty Man and pretends to be him to make Robin and Kitty laugh. Fanny is absolutely appalled at the costumes Martha wears, but secretly thinks the Celtic dress is rather flattering and is wishing for the ability to grow her hair again. Julian instantly takes a liking to Stupid Deaths and starts singing it whenever hes around another ghost getting sad about being...well...a ghost. He also unironically starts using the
Tumblr media
Meme unironically. Everybody hates it. He even uses it against Fanny with no remorse. (He only stops after the Captain, in an uncharacteristic act of childish ness, "accidently" wacks him in the knackers with his stick.) Thomas is at first offended by the Charles II rap, believing it to be an insult to the art of poetry and music alike, but is won over by the Dick Turpin song, declaring he would look good in eyeliner and ends up spending an entire week trying (and failing) to find a way to make it happen. The Captain at first appears uninterested with this new development, but was strangely effected by the Borgia Family song and tries to be sneaky in asking for Alison to play it on YouTube whenever possible and is often found looking in a mirror and messing with his hair. He also took it upon himself to learn the Kings and Queens of England song, and is even starting to learn it backwards, just because he can. Robin really loves Bob Hale and tries so hard to learn to talk like him, but eventually gives up and starts doing Shouty Man impressions with Pat. Kitty loves all of this and can often be found with one of the look alikes, asking them to do impressions for her. Mary spent an entire month avoiding them, spouting things about witchcraft and satan and how it wasnt natural, until alison was able to talk her out of it and now she watches it with the rest of them (though still runs away whenever theres fire.)
Humphrey has no idea what's going in it the house and just wants to get his body back.
(Also, when Alison finds them all on the sofa watching HH without blinking, all wearing vastly different expressions, she leaves as quietly as humanly possible and goes to have a long hot shower and a cup of tea in preparation for the chaos that will inevitably follow.)

13. what do i post: everything and anything. You may have noticed the frequent Yonderland/Ghosts/Six Idiots stuff lately but there is also a lot of Justified going on
14. last thing i googled: “teutonic glam-rock pervert played with immense relish by Laurence Rickard’ like five minutes ago. I was curious where that description of Kendall was given. Before that it was ‘Wants by Grace Paley pdf’ which is for class.
15. other blogs: well. I have a queer Irish page @duine-aiteach, an edit page @novemberenby, a general positivity/LGBT page @seth-the-hobbit and an LGBT media page @lgbtplus-literature....among others. Those are the ones I care about the most though.
16. do i get asks: sometimes. I have been getting more recently from a lovely Kendall fan
17. why i chose my url: it’s my username for everything tbh. I think it originated from some R2-D2 username maker thing but don’t quote me on that.
18. following: 1041 but a lot are fandom blogs I am no longer interested in so I do need to have a look

20. average hours of sleep: 7-8
21. lucky number: 23
22. instruments: Twinkle Twinkle on the tin whistle. I started learning the drums from my uncle a few years ago which I enjoyed but then I injured my wrist and I can’t keep time any more. Not necessarily the worst thing, I don’t have a single musical bone in my body.
23. what am i wearing: grey flowery socks, black tracksuit pants, a grey t-shirt with whales on (not Wales!) and a Bring Me The Horizon hoodie.
24. dream job: writer - novels, short stories, screenplays, poetry, anything. I enjoy playing around with a variety.

26. favourite food: every food I have ever eaten leaves my mind. Uhh...fan of pretzels. And Marmite. And Skittles. And Battenburg. And samosas and onion bhaajis and Yorkshire puddings. Had some very tasty spicy noodles for dinner?
27. nationality: Irish
28. favourite song: one?? Just one?? At the moment I’m probably playing Dick Turpin, RAF Pilots and Spartan School Musical from Horrible Histories the most with a healthy dose of Dicked Down in Dallas by Trey Lewis and Rose Red by The Mechanisms (but specifically only the version on Soundcloud)>
29. last book i read: Loveless by Alice Oseman. I am currently reading The Crooked Tree by Una Mannion which is very good so far (and she is a wonderful woman. Do not know anyone who knows her who doesn’t like her; she’s absolutely fantastic.)
30. top three fictional universes i’d like to live in: probably not. Too many monsters killing stupid humans for my taste.
I don’t like tagging people because I feel like I’m bothering them, but if you follow me feel free to give it a go and say I tagged you!

Horrible Histories’ Dick Turpin song was actually a parody of a pretty catchy song from 1981 called “Stand and Deliver” by Adam and the Ants. Honestly, I love that song, but I think I like “Dick Turpin” better. Besides, Mat in that hat is just perfect, lol. But really, give both a listen, watch the music videos, and see where “Dick Turpin” parody’s “Stand and Deliver”. It’s super cool.

Okay, well now I want to know why is your car named Dick Turpin? 😂 Firstly, I had a flashback of that song from Horrible Histories by Matthew Baynton, secondly, I am so glad I am not the only one who gives names to cars!
Haha, that was actually another reference to Good Omens: Newton’s car is called Dick Turpin, and he keeps hoping people would ask him why it is called like that. I honestly don’t remember why he called it Dick Turpin; Google says that when he was actually asked about this, he answered “because everywhere I go, I hold up traffic”. I am either not proficient enough in English or not knowledgeable enough about Dick Turpin to understand this joke.
As for me, my car doesn’t have a name, mostly because I don’t have a car. But if I had one, I think I would’ve given it a name, too! Also, now I want to know the name of your car :D
