"My place on Earth" – Designed by @linkarkitektur Visualization by @tegmark "A proposal with deep roots in Hammarkullen and its history. In a parallel assignment, we designed a square that takes advantage of the area’s qualities and enhances them, creating a safe, attractive living space for Hammarkulle residents. The new construction is tailored for flexibility and to last over time. The Northern Light Cathedral, Alta, Norway

A Catedral das Luzes do Norte (Nordlyskatedralen) foi consagrada pelo Bispo Per Oskar Kjølaas em 10 de fevereiro de 2013. O edifício é inspirado pelas auroras boreais e é a catedral mais ao norte da Europa. Sua cidade anfitriã, a Alta, pode agora apresentar um marco arquitetônico excepcional que evoca a poesia e a beleza das auroras boreais.
A catedral está localizada no centro da Alta, no final de um shopping pedestre, e será cercada por um parque. A catedral funcionará como um novo local de encontro, onde eventos grandes e pequenos terão lugar ao longo do ano.
O corpo e a espiral da catedral se estendem 47m em direção aos céus, e é inspirado pelas auroras boreais (Aurora Borealis), que deu o nome da catedral. A Princesa Herdeira Mette Marit de HRH e vários outros convidados proeminentes participaram da consagração da estrutura revestida de titânio, a mais nova e espetacular igreja da Noruega.
Link Arkitektur participou de uma rodada de pré-qualificação e posteriormente ganhou o concurso de design junto com os arquitetos Schmidt Hammer Lassen, convidados pela LINK Arkitektur a participar como parte da equipe de design
O cliente expressou um claro desejo de criar um marco arquitetônico inspirado pelo Northern Lights desde o início do projeto. O prédio assumiu o nome de 'Cathedral of the Northern Lights' já em 2001. LINK respondeu ao resumo do projeto com um conceito robusto e uma idéia simbólica bidimensional clara; A dinâmica da estrutura enroladora onde o movimento representa a relação entre Deus e a humanidade, e a humanidade e Deus. Um espaço para oração e adoração silenciosa está localizado no olho da bobina.
O design e a construção das curvas e paredes de concreto inclinado foram extremamente exigentes e inúmeras variações de forma levam a desafios técnicos extremos.
O projeto foi constantemente refinado durante toda a fase de projeto, produzindo um produto acabado espetacular; Uma escultura de titânio evocando o espírito das auroras boreais e capturando a luz única encontrada em Alta ao longo do ano. A tensão entre o enorme céu, preenchido com as luzes do norte turbulentas, e a forma voltada da estrutura arredondada culmina na torre de 47 m de altura da catedral. A aparência cambiante das luzes do norte reflete-se nas curvas revestidas com titânio da fachada da catedral. A estrutura se expressa como uma escultura isolada em harmonia com a majestosa paisagem circundante.
Prêmio de arquitetura:
nomeado para o Nordnorsk arkitekturpris 2014, nomeado para o Nord-Norges beste bygg 2013 e vencedor da organização de serviços de contratação da North Norwegian (NESO): o melhor edifício no norte da Noruega 2013

The new building is placed over the old foundry, supported by large steel beam cantilevers.
