Hahahaoh boy, you have a lot to learn. At least he was ride or die to come help us? I get a feeling he handled the truth better than everyone else. Specially Estinien, who was actually there.

I got the feeling things were going to get heavy so I took many pictures with the horseman. They broke post limit so not included

It's funny before playing I thought Y'sthola was pretty and, thought a crush would be a character point??? but now that she has a character that simply, doesn't happen. It was teeming comradery at best, with Nemi getting along better with Yda's humour. Though she definitely sensed and agreed with Y'sthola on the messed state of the treatment of the beast tribes. This is what set the ARR tribal quests to be completed most likely.

Oh the joy I felt finally getting this outfit...

Nemi: me too buddy, me too

It's at this point Nemi is extra anxious and shaken asking where Ysayle is, fearing what other lingering presence the Heavensward might have left in the city, while failing to hold back every passive aggressive statement in Aymeric's direction over his short thinking getting a good man killed. It's odd how this, frankly stupid decision is let slide in the story. If he had more of a connection to Thordan maybe, but he is the bastard that was cast away in name and connections from someone who deals with Ascians. Why would he listen to him?

...and of course, comes the fall that gave way to the shatter of the barrier. She kneeled on that border for a long time, shaking and wailing in unsaid words and better what ifs. She almost pierced Estinien's head off when he came close, he the last person she wanted nearby. He was hurt by this but, accepted it.

It was no surprise then that Wedge's jokes drove her to anger and rush ahead through the blighted land alone. Sensing her anger and need to get this over with to slay Thordan for causing this chain of events, Midgarsomr led Nemi to Tiamat, getting to her of her plight and access his new body as a way to the Singularity Reactor.

When she saw Lahabrea and Igeyorhirm blocking her path, she felt no ounce of fear or shaking. She just bade them to stand aside and let her settle personal business. Of course, they fought her and the later got magicite slain the regular way, but Nemi didn't expect nor want the horrific absorption Lahabrea suffered in the Ascalon sword. Was that something he felt trapped there, or was his soul dissipated with his body aether absorbed? No matter. Breaking free from Charibert's bindings, she took on the Heavensward one on one and loomed over Thordan, eyes cold and incompassing. Her hands switched from a claymore to a lance to spike his head on the wall, giving him the same death he condemned to the many dragons Ysayle sympathized for.

Her hair was red and her stare incompassive as Estinien checked on her with shock, trying to coax her out of that state when the eyes took him for his heightened state of panic in seeing himself reflected in Nemi. Nidhogg's return shook Nemi out of her stupor, trying to reach out and failing before the possessed man took off.

Though the Dragonsong War's end will be left for another post, I wanted to leave here the small tributes for Haurchefant and Ysayle from the reflections story cause, it seems a good button for this post. Nemi will make peace with these new regrets, eventually

revolutionary girl utena review

ep 1-5

the plot is actually kinda different from what I thought ?? in my mind the plot was: utena was a girl in a princess school who each and every princess would be "conquered" (for a lack of better words rn) in a ceremonial duel by a prince who fancied them, maybe she didnt wanna wanna marry anyone or she liked Anthy already but anyway in my mind utena showed up in the ceremony with duel clothing and then, in a very brave tm like-scene, she would openly declare she refused to be conquered by anyone and tbh I'm not even sure how Anthy would come into the plot... but back into what actually happened in the episodes everything so far is very introductory and just showing what mechanics will be explored further down the line I think?? the op is really good too

also every boy so far reminds me so much of knights of the zodiac?? maybe it's just the design I guess...) and nanami can get these hands, jealousy is a disease and she's the sickest person on earth for all I know

dont ask me why bit I just feel like room of mirrors - gfriend has a very well fitting vibe for it but I'm not exactly sure why hm.... 🤔🤔

ep 6-12

ok so why does this school just have random animals around 😐 I could understand the horse but a bull and a kangaroo?? what ...

touga just says the most random dramatic things and then just casually says anyone who believes in friendship is a fool ?? the guy wouldnt last a day in the naruto universe tbh, he kinda irks me in some way but I'm not sure why so I'll live with this strange feeling for a while I guess

↳ okay so watching ep 10 made me especially kinda creeped out, I know I've watched only 10 eps so far but like can he fall downstairs and break a neck or something already ...

I feel like the main thing on the episodes are parallels, one way or another I always feel like they're setting up parallels and giving me clues for a bigger picture and a deeper plot arc that is still to come and the bet on it fmv just made this impression stronger, also I wanna say it's done in a good way, one that is both mysterious (??) and "honey you've got a big storm coming" at the same time 🤔🤔 much to think about honestly

↳ just saw ep 11 and even though I already knew this was coming sooner or later it still felt like crap seeing utena lose to dick head, at the end of the episode when he says anthy was always just reflecting utena's own wishes for himemiya (in another way bc I dont remenber the exact words) it felt like 😐 bc yes I knew that (the way she was working her thoughts was simply a copy and paste of what utena was saying) at all time I kept those essays about anthy in my head, I dont think theyll be truly relatable to what I'm seeing rn but yeah anthy rights (even though I know you betray/cheat on utena down the line bc of the bet on it fmv but I'm sure you had your own motivation)

↳ saw ep 12 bc I just couldnt handle being in a cliffhanger and yeah it happened what I absolutely thought it would lmao not that it was that difficult to foresee but yeah, I kinda liked how utena did it for her instead of being like "oh I wanna save anthy from touga" and treating her like a damsel in distress (I know that's kinda her position as the rose bride for what I've been told so far and that this is a subject spoken about in many many essays on tumblr but yeah) bc so far she's been treated as a trophy and a way to get something else, for the green haired guy it was a way to see something eternal, for miki it was a way to hold on into his "shining thing" and for touga it seems (so far) like a way to manipulate (just like he does with nanami) and just mark his position as above everyone else as he seems to view himself?? man I might be saying random stuff rn but it kinda does makes sense in my mind with the information I've had to this point

ep 13-25

honestly 😐😐 through 9 whole episodes I felt like they were trying to make the side characters deeper and show their hidden face and motivations but it felt so shallow...... not even actually shallow, just not deep enough that it would make me care about these characters and the fact there was no actual build to showing us why we're getting to know these characters backgrounds was just kinda meh too, didnt really help that all episodes had all the same formula and the same timing just for the developers made in those episodes be forgotten at the end and also just that pink haired guy could be like "ah failure again", it felt like watching the same episode over and over again, it was really tiring and like?? girl help I do not care about these characters at all, I feel like it could have been done well (like the keiko ep in comparison to the furuba chapter that deals with the yuki appreciation (??) club president graduating.... the way this ep was done and setup didn't really bring me any emotions) overall not to my taste and tbh I feel like I could have skipped all those episodes except for maybe the miki and juri one so 😑

all nanami focused episodes are the worst so far, she's so boring and I cant stand now annoying she is, the diary episode?? the cow episode?? the episode when tsuwabiki fuels with utena?? honestly I know they're trying to show me a better and different side of her but it just doesnt!! work!! bc i feel no sympathy for her, my biggest wish rn is her and touga just disappearing and no more filler episodes🗣🗣

I thought akio was utena's prince?? but apparently he's just anthy's brother and like.. I'm do done with his little talks with utena and yadda yadda, I just wanna see their duel is that too much to ask I'm dying over here (if this lenga lenga continues until ep 25 i will be so mad bc why were so many episodes wasted on such boring and and not necessary side characters backstories?? idc about them at all man aaaaaaaaaa)

↳ ep 25 was good finally we got what we deserve boys 😭😭😭😭😭 can utena just beat up akio already I'm tired of his ass, he exhales both "I'm a feminist I even take women studies classes #herstory" and "if she breathes she's a thot" energy also he has 0 style that mullet is simply horrible I bet there's a hairstylist community who considers him a criminal bc like 😐 it is simply so bad (q bit less when it's tied up but when it's all lose jesus Christ)

also touga thinks he's suuuuch a genius, sooo smart like king, I do not care about you at all can you shut the fuck up please and can we tall about the pink haired guy episode?? wack. honestly thought it would be more emotional or something, I binge watched 12 episodes with his ugly haircut face and did not even feel a thing he can choke I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

first of all, ep 25 was good but kinda reminded me of the nine episodes (13 until 21) where absolutely nothing interesting happened so I hope I'm wrong also can I just say just seeing the preview of the next episode made me roll my eyes so bad I almsot saw my brain?? bc yeah I'm fucking tired of nanami fosuced episodes she's so annoying oh my god nobody cares about a goddamn egg and much less one coming from her let her die or something pls she's so annoying there's nothing I've learned about her that was not against my own will I'm basically rotting over here 🤒

↳ ep 30 has me thinking Akio has a foot fetish or something 😐 bruh leave utena aloooooone I already know your plans and schemes you're not fooling anyone that's embarrassing for u and also... utena you're not very bright are you.... you start seeing every duelist you face with the same exact car and then when you see akio has the same car you didnt even stop to think about it that 1+1 equals 2 ... girl help yourself 😐

↳ yet again another nanami focused ep 😐😐😐😐😐 even though I do understand her better now I still don't find her particularly enjoyable to watch, call me a woman hater but like. idk she's still a bit annoying to me (but touga is straight up evil and is manipulating her so I feel bad for feeling like that tho.....)

I thought the akio duel would have happened much sooner, maybe on ep 33 max but well didn't this age well lmao ngl, it did seem a bit too slow paced for my personal taste but also I feel like there's a certain level of drama that comes with slowing the pace down....

there's obviously many things I've missed or that I kinda didnt really pay attendance to so please dont take this serious, I was just writing as I watched the episodes so it's more like a thought compilation than anything, still I can see why there's many essays written about it and why it is held as a masterpiece by so many people

Relationship status: *insert slightly off-kilter laughter here* But for reals. Not until I get to a good place on my own. Does my BEST BUDDIES FOREVER dedication to my dog count?

Favorite Color: GREEN! And lots of shades of it! Sea green and forest green and moss green... Not so keen on lime green, but I just. I dunno. I like the color green, and one day my hair will be consistently this color.

Lipstick or Chapstick: Uh. Like. Neither, if I’m honest. I haven’t had the money to spend on either, but, when this new job kicks in, chapstick probably? My lips get chapped really easily, and a lot of companies make tinted chapsticks now. Which is the best of both worlds!

Last Song I listened to: Okay. So. Full disclosure, I have not played Final Fantasy XV, but, like the nerd I am, I listened to the music. And I fell in love with, oddly enough, the Instrumental track of Somnus. It even feels a little like a song that would work as a backdrop for Ilan’s memories. Regardless, I think it’s a beautiful song. And I have it on right now!

Last Movie I watched: FUCKING SNOWPIERCER. My roommate clued me into this movie. With Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton. And I was blown away. I went to see Thor: Ragnarok with an old gift card today, and while it was amazing! I think Snowpiercer, which I turned on upon getting home while about to relax a bit, hit me harder. It’s... a really intense movie, and I do recommend it. Post-apocalyptic humanity on a huge train where moving forward in cars increases your class... It’s just. It was fucking good and chilling and fucked up.

Top 3 TV Shows: Firefly is my beloved, and I will never not mention it. It holds a very special place in my heart. The rest of my answers are really hard, actually! Not to sound like Whedon nerd, but Buffy will probably always hold a special place in my heart too. SO MANY LIFE LESSONS. And... this one is kind of newish in comparison, but Jessica Jones. That series struck me personally on a lot of levels, and, though I still struggle in my shit, it really means a lot to me. It’s not an easy watch, and I’d look up triggers if you’re worried beforehand. But it just speaks to me and is amazing.

Top 3 Characters: I’m going in general here and off the top of my head? River Tam from Firefly. I don’t know if it comes across scary or not, but that character spoke to me. And was beautiful and strong and weak and... just everything. I love her a lot. Also, and this is going to date me even worse, but Anthy Himemiya from Utena. If people want to tell me she was awful and terrible, Anthy is a character I will gladly revert to my angry high school days and fight you about. Lastly, I think I might have to go with Himura Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin. I don’t know. In spite of all the SHONEN SERIES DUDE CHARACTER DWARFS ALL OTHERS in the manga, anime AND live action movies, something about Kenshin’s story has always touched me. A dark past coupled with a will to be better... but then he’s always afraid to get close to people because of who he is and struggles to maintain his ideals while being tested constantly... Kenshin will always speak to me, I think.

Top 3 Bands/Artist: Pink Floyd first without a fucking second of hesitation. The Wall traumatized me watching it, but the music. Just. You could just put all of their work on play for me, and I’d be good for a while. I also really dig Mumford and Sons a lot. This is a newish love for me? But a very intense newish love. Last might seem a weird pick, but Ima go with Ruthie Henshall. Her voice just speaks to me, y’all. Her I Dreamed a Dream haunts me. Her Maybe This Time? Amazing. But then she also does funny effortlessly, like her duet with John Barrowman doing Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better. I dunno. I can’t find a thing I’ve heard her sing that doesn’t make me like want to marry her voice.

Books I’m Currently Reading: I do have two books I’m currently re-reading! A Tale of Two Cities because I weirdly love that fucking book. And Catcher in the Rye. Which I don’t remember much of but want to read again. After that I think I might read the Grapes of Wrath again cause I love a Mumford and Sons song about it. :3

In the same way Mob became a so-called “bishonen” for s2 ep 5 of his show, Hanae became kind of hot – but also kind of weird – for the finale.

Notably, the “Ashiya” Abeno is referring to is only Hanae…not Sakae at all. Hmm.

Mob Psycho 100 II 13 (FINAL)

“Bishonen” Mob returns!

I keep getting the feeling that Mob will sacrifice himself this episode. It’s a very Mob thing to do, but…I worry about him, because without him we have no show.

Okay, first episode of this particularly meager season…coming right up!

I’ve never had to watch an ep on phone for subs before…I much prefer a bigger screen.

Okay…as soon as I heard Potato-kun say “Panties?” I knew I was in for a bad time. I’m watching based on the title and the series image, not the fact it’s based on an adult VN.

I can’t believe we have to be told about these ladies from the guys first…I feel sorry for Yuki.

I-Is Arima-mama the kind of person one would call a “MILF”…? I dunno since I don’t swing that way.

Seriously, how long ago did Potato-kun’s father die??? (I know his name is Arima Takuya, but…he’s “Potato-kun” to me, even as a joke.)

Fruits Basket 1

I have zero experience with OG Fruits Basket outside 1 episode I didn’t really finish (but finishd the entire manga and may have caught a tiny bit of it - not enough to mark on anyone’s anime list as “complete” - while it was on TV), so…this’ll be interesting.

This is exactly as I remember it! Beautifulllllllllllll…so beautiful I wanna cry…(Keep in mind I binged most of the manga years ago, so it’s getting harder and harder to remember the exact story every day.)

Holeeeeeeeeeeee…sugar. I just realised how old Fruits Basket is! Also, rumour has it Motoko has differently coloured hair in the OG version, but I didn’t watch (or didn’t remember) that part, so…I don’t have a standard to hold her up to, really. Plussssss…I love how Motoko and her Prince Yuki fanclub are like Mean Girls. The reason I had to check up how old Fruits Basket is is because of that comparison. Mean Girls is from 2004, thereby being 5 or 6 years younger than Fruits Basket.

The angelic “ahhhhh” in the background really sold how good Tohru’s food was (for Hanajima).

This CGI fan is going to haunt me until the end of my days, isn’t it…?

Ouch…I think I just realised why Fruits Basket is so powerful (at the part where Tohru is working hard at her job). It resonates strongly with those who are lost in life. I found I couldn’t really relate when I first read it though, which may have been attributed to the fact I was…what, 13?...at the time.

Photorealistic clouds…no. I think that Indian festival with the dye (I don’t remember which one it is off the top of my head) happened to my eyes…(i.e. my eyes…my poor eyes…)

I didn’t think Vickeblanka was capable of doing slower songs. This song’s kinda nice…but only because I heard the last few seconds of the ending (the rest was obscured by background noise and I don’t have time to play it again).

Between the comment about Shigure and the comment about the clouds, I was internally bawling about how stupid and spoilt I’d become. This is the power of Fruits Basket!

We Never Learn 1

Hmm…I thought the manga of this (or what I saw of it, at least) was kinda vanilla, so…this’ll be an experience, one way or another.

Yuiga’s face game is spot-on, LOL.

Aw, this show encourages the growth mindset…how cute. *does Kaguya-sama face*

The eyecatch is about what classes the main trio are in, but Furuhashi is taking it as related to boob size…*sigh*

The sign just says “library”. There’s no need to contextualise it more than that…

Come to think of it, why did I pick this series up? I’ve read the manga parts that correspond to this episode…Well, I remember when this series was still new. I think it was that it was refreshing to see these guys so gung-ho about uni, because recently I’ve been in doubt about my own future (and to tell the truth, I’ve been thinking different things about what I want to do at different stages of my life anyway). I’ve literally only settled on the things I’m doing because I suck at everything else, but I can do whatever I put my mind to…for most things I try. Much like Fruits Basket is for those who are lost in life, We Never Learn is an affirmation that you can change your future…or something like that, anyway.

…The disembodied mouths creep me out…anyways, this show isn’t bad, it isn’t 100% a keeper either (unless I get co-opted into a collab for it). It’s just squarely in the middle.

Boob grope…eesh. That brought down the keeping factor down a little.

Kimetsu no Yaiba 1

Hmm…there’s more CGI than I’d like to admit is in here…

I remember reading a while ago that the “Tan” in Tanjiro is the word for “charcoal”.

Take = bamboo, and he’s a woodcutter kid. LOL.

This is exactly as I remember it! It’s kinda cool, since the smelling thing is obviously foreshadowing.

I remember I didn’t quite get the idea that Nezuko was growing in size in the manga…well, now I just did.

Oh-hoh-hoh-hohhhhhhh! Giyu Tomioka, me boy! There he is!

I didn’t know Giyu Tomioka was basically a ninja, LOL.

This is definitely one of the better series out there this season. It might not be the best due to its sheer amount of shonen trappings, but it’s still dang good! (I like Giyu Tomioka already, but now that I think of it, I’d like to see Lightning Boy in action within the show and not just the OP…hmm.)

[Sarazanmai 1 is not here because I saw it at the anime club first. I do intend to cover subsequent episodes here though…]

Hmm…this seems like a show where you should ship people, but there doesn’t seem to be enough of a connection between anyone that I can see anyone shipping. I guess that’s why this thing is basically a shoujo in appearance, huh…?

Do you guys even know what a koto is? If you do, that’s great, but if you don’t, you’re going to have to infer…that’s a bit nasty for an ancient instrument the West doesn’t know about. Then again, this clearly isn’t something made for the West.

Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin 1

For some reason, I’m just not used to calling this show “Midnight Occult Civil Servants”…that sounds clunky. That’s why I’m calling it “Mayonaka” for short…oh yeah, right now Funi is undergoing maintenance which is why I had to shuffle Mayonaka forward. I was meant to be doing Fairy Gone in this slot, to be honest with you.

Hmm…*thinks about time talking with Plyasm* *thinks about how Seo trid to kick this Reiji Kyoichi person* I see a resemblance here…with the kicking and all…Update: There is a guy called “Reiji” in this show, I just read “Kyoichi” wrong because I was trying to type up comments here.

Somehow it never actually occurred to me that Seo was a gender-neutral name. I’m normally quite good with these things…or maybe it was Ply keeping me up late that’s making me not notice…or even the fact I’m not listening to Seo’s voice, since that’s sometimes a hint to a person’s gender in particularly ambiguous cases (I’m currently not listening to the audio). Update: Okay, that’s definitely a man’s voice coming from the effeminate-looking Seo.

Oh yes…I forgot to mention, this show does an awful lot of telling and not showing.

I keep noting this episode is set on April Fool’s Day…what a day for pranking, huh?

I’ve seen a Cait Sith in anime before…so there’s a dog version too (Cu Sith), huh?

Tape? That’s so mundane…then again, I guess this is what happens when you have boring jobs in interesting places, huh? Reminds me a lot of my own stabs at this kind of story.

I’m of two minds when it comes to this show – on the one hand, I like its plot (it’s better than Charlotte in this field, at least). It’s a bit cliched, but it might lose against competition like Sarazanmai or even Kono Oto Tomare. On the other hand, its visuals are kinda…ugly.

Fairy Gone 1

Fa-Fanatica…? What sort of name is that??? (That’s not a good sign if I question the first name on the screen now, is it?)

Lay Dawn, would you please…lay down? (Okay, that joke only works with a particular pronunciation of “down”, but you get the bad pun…right? Right?)

So this is Spec-Ops Asuka without the huge boobs, I expect? That would make Fairy Gone at least 10 points (on my anime list) better than the thing I’m comparing it with.

I think the tiny symbols under most of the credits are stylised English, although I was looking at a credit for a guy with the surname Yamamoto and it wasn’t quite working.

The CGI is one of the better efforts I’ve seen, but still slightly obvious.

Veronica’s run reminds me of Akira from Devilman Crybaby. You know the one GIF of him running while leaning forward at an impossible angle? That one.

Post-credits scene…keep watching.

Rendai Utena 1

(Update: This was an anime I had to watch via VPN. Notably, the last time I resorted to one was B Project...however, no one remembers that but me, so the last big time I had to use a VPN was for Sakamoto Desu Ga?.)

Uh…yeah. This is the one Buddha anime this season. But before you run off, screaming about how blasphemous I must be to Buddhists, I’ll have you know I was originally not intending to watch this…if you know me well enough, you’ll know I like bishies. Only after I compiled my to-watch list for this season did one of the star bishies show up and convince me to watch…yeah, now you can run away screaming. (Oh and if you’re interested as to what image caught my attention enough to make me watch a show…it’s the top image on this CR page – not the thumbnail, the other top image.)

Okayyyyyyy…for a show about bishies, you sure aren’t capturing me right now with this plight of a salaryman.

Aw, dangit. I actually liked the few moments this was a zombie anime! Give me High School of the Dead, but with bishies instead of jiggly-boob girls! *shakes fist at cloud*

Oh, great…I can’t even tell who’s who around here. They even had little name cards and everything! So much for my great memory…*grumble grumble* But hey, at least I recognise some names…not from being Buddhist, but from other anime. I mean, Miroku is the guy from Inuyasha and Fudo Myouou is the guy who inspired Okurikara in Touken Ranbu, yeah?

Uh, hey. Isn’t sloth meant to be a vice? Isn’t “lounging around” a vice???

Another thing. I get the feeling that putting these guys in tracksuits is just trying to coast on the success of Touken Ranbu. Touken Ranbu is nice, but only because I was familiar with the source game and a bit about the fandom. This? I have no such basis.

Lotus Head – Bonten – his nagging is starting to get on my nerves already. I came for Taishakuten, not you!

Yeah…even in Touken Ranbu, they have washing machines. Convenience, but also…vice in terms of that old-timey Buddha stuff, I guess…? Update: Actually, I thought about it and I don’t think they’ve ever shown a washing machine in Hanamaru, but I think they might’ve had a fridge.

Wait, wait, wait…the bird was a bishie tooooooooo?????????????? I think that’s the biggest bending my brain’s going to get all premiere season (for this season)! Even more so than the entire debut of Sarazanmai!

Wait, wait, wait…Bonten likes porridge?! D’ya mean “congee” or “oatmeal” kinda porridge? I can’t tell because I’ve got the volume off, but if it’s the latter then Bonten wouldn’t have known about it. Update: It appears to be the latter. How Bonten would’ve ever known about porridge…I don’t know.

New aesthetic – Taishakuten’s hair. I like me a man with a ponytail (which is why I fell hook, line and sinker for him in the first place), but his hair done up like it is in the bath…*swoons, then goes back to normal* That is all.

What’s up with Paomi anyway…? And…this is kinda petty if the central conflict is just getting Shaka to get off cooking duties. That’s too low a conflict for even Hanamaru, methinks.

So…you introduce all these Buddha guys and then expect me to care about some human who doesn’t even have a name? Wuh…?

Okayyyyyyy…I’ve never seen an earthquake that was that fast before.

Wait, wait, huh???????? The guy who voices Taishakuten is…Choreo (Brave Beats)??????????? Oh no, I should’ve listened to it! Anyways, I’ve decided I’m dropping it, simply because if I want Taishakuten only for his looks, I can just find a wallpaper of him.

if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?

Read Love in the Time of Cholera, The House of the Spirits, and The Secret History, and watch Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Love in the Time of Cholera is about this absolutely insane love that consumes the main character for decades until, in the last chapter, sixty years after falling in love, he gets together with the person he loved all those years. I read it when I was ten, took it as an instruction manual, and absolutely fucked myself. Cue Revolutionary Girl Utena: I was a girl like Utena once, and I loved a girl very much like Anthy, and suffered appropriately.

The Secret History is something I read more recently, but I think of it as a continuation of having imprinted on Riku from Kingdom Hearts at a young age. I am very tired, and Anthy did not find me, and like Henry, I very much long to prove that “high cold principles” are worth something.

The House of the Spirits is a sprawling epic about a Chilean family; I’ve always felt very strongly that it was about my family despite the fact that we’ve little in common to the main characters; the only thing I can say to justify this is that the tone is somehow the same. (It’s very difficult for me to talk about my family without sounding absurd even to myself. Several of us were killed in a blood feud over land in El Salvador. Doesn’t that sound unreal? But it’s true. Allende talks about fiction with more confidence than I have to describe actual truth.)

I feel weird saying this where it could conceivably be seen by her, but Cepheid Variable has a way of talking about self-destructive love that grips at something visceral in me. I admire her, and also can’t read some of her works without feeling dizzy.

If I were to get a tattoo, it would be of this verse. “Vexation of Spirit” can also be translated as striving after wind, which I find a perfect double meaning. I’ve always loved wind, and I associate it with intelligence and clarity and principle; all the things I love best.

Bonus, because I find this post excessively serious: Listen to Blink-182 and the Aertze. I don’t know when I decided that it was important to me to be funny, but I did, and I figure it was around the time I was listening to these bands. My favorite jams are “Feeling this” and “Lasse Reden”.
