Sandy Litchfield’s “Forestation Syncopation” blends geometric and organic shapes to unveil the ways in which the natural and built environments interact, as seen from the Long Island Rail Road train journey to New Hyde Park and the surrounding area. Installed in three platform shelters, each window visualizes a distinct view of a landscape impression -- as if catching a glimpse of morning sun before work, or the flicker of light through the trees on the way home to Long Island after a day in New York City.

With an emphasis on color and light, @sandylitchfieldstudio’s artwork incorporates the painterly watercolor marks alongside linear details that define intersecting edges. The original artwork was made using a hybrid process of hand-drawing, painting and digital technologies and was then fabricated into 36 laminated glass panels by Mayer of Munich.

The old workhorses of the Long Island Rail Road, still rolling to this day somehow. These M3 cars were sidelined from service in 2020(and most of 2021) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, some of these cars were retired and sent to scrap. Because of the need for extra trains to make service(especially with LIRR now going to Grand Central), they brought these cars back into service. 3 or so sets are in service from time to time. It's pretty cool to see these back in service. Grand Central Madison, the new home for the Long Island Rail Road. The East Side Access project was years in the making, and as of January 25th, 2023, there is service to the new Grand Central Madison terminal with Grand Central Direct shuttle trains between Jamaica & Grand Central within a matter of weeks(or maybe months), full service from several LIRR branches will begin and more trains will frequent this new terminal. This new terminal is 15 stories underground, and is also below both the Subway and Metro-North, making it one of the deepest stations in New York City. It takes about 7-12 minutes to go from the platform to one of the many exits. Here's several pictures from the platform and mezzanine levels, along with a video of a train of M9s departing from the terminal.
