*Oh wait. Spy x Family has Yuri constantly obsessed and jealous over his sister. But he appears so infrequently and his sister-obsession is framed as weird and stupid.

**Apothecary Diaries has the rare nudity, but is shockingly non-objectifying, for a series about literal harem concubines and prostitutes. Even the one "boob shot" wasn't ecchi AT ALL, and was pertinent to the context of the conversation, because the protagonist was advising the concubine to utilize her boobs since she wanted to become pregnant again.

***Someone may say Claymore's nudity makes it guilty of a fanservice trope, but, as someone who has drawn a lot of nude models in person, Claymore feels like an example of non-sexualized nudity. Their bodies are literally turning into monstrous forms, because of the experiments done on them. It makes sense for them to "Hulk-out" and their clothes to sometimes tear off. But it's never gratuitous. Then again i am an oblivious aroace.

That last reblog---hypotheticals about reuniting with your dead dog in heaven---reminded me.

In my Personal Myth, my protagonist had all this power, but too many emotional/mental hang-ups to fully use them. And one of the problems was that she could totally resurrect people and/or go to any underworld to visit anyone dead, so it kind of took away the stakes for the characters she cared about dying.

But the thing was that I used her reluctance to visit the dead or hesitation to simply resurrect people, as a reflection of my own mental problems...But because I've been in isolation, recovering for so many years, I kind of forgot a lot of my more painful feelings. Especially the ones that were so seemingly irrational, yet instinctually intense, that they felt the need to express themselves in my Personal Myth.

But that last reblog reminded me: Re-bonding with anyone is frightening, even in real life, with living people. It is also wholly within my power, at any time...from an objective, outsider's point of view. But only when I am considered like anyone else, someone who doesn't have social anxiety. My social anxiety goes beyond being afraid while socializing is happening. I'm afraid of having relationships...or reviving previous ones. There's that Hopeless belief that continuing a relationship is just providing more opportunities to continue screwing it up, to continue hurting the other person, and generally be something to be feared, especially with someone cared about. Even with all the power in existence, not everyone can just reunite with the dead or bring the dead back to life. Why does everyone assume that doing so would always result in only good things?

On the face of it, people will call my character a "Mary Sue", or "underutilization of established powers", or my character just not making any sense. But I think this quirk of hers was meant to express this real feeling of mine. And maybe the fact that it doesn't make sense---Why would an all-powerful being act like there are certain things she "can't" do?---is kind of the point. It points to the issue that is the real conflict. Death isn't the conflict.

It is strange how I both really do NOT wish for Bloodborne anime to exist because it will probably ruin a lot of mystery and engagement based on fans struggling to interpret, with 'canon' unseen characters designs and worse - DIRECT ANSWERS *horrified woman's scream sound effect*

But also I really WISH for Bloodborne anime to exist because I want to see the favs to emote and do cool stuff in 2D. The internal struggle

LRB but I haven’t been able to stop thinkin about it goddamn the POTENTIAL of that situation and no one out here is exploring it… I’m in a perpetual state of suffering HEVDJSB

But like. Volo, this clearly very kind and caring trainer to his Pokémon, coming across a weakened Giratina and genuinely opening his heart to them. Or, or! Perhaps Giratina was targeting Volo from the beginning, again the idea of using one of Arceus’ own worshippers, one of Arceus’ own people, and turning him against them… but either way, I can just see Volo honestly and wholly wanting to help Giratina.

Though Celestican legend speaks of this Pokémon having been banished by the Original One for their violence, their desire for destruction, and their previous places and altars of worship were destroyed for their treachery… there was, at one point, a time where Giratina knew peace, right? That they were ever worshipped at all, Volo knew his people once knew the great power of Giratina, and respected them as one of their own pantheon, and to see them now, weakened and debased… perhaps it reminded Volo of his own self, of the trauma and alienation he’d felt throughout his life. By then, he was already seeking out Arceus, desiring answers, and I can plausibly imagine that Giratina… preyed on that. Convinced Volo that the only answers he would receive from Arceus would be those of heartbreak - that his true motive needed to be one of total domination over Arceus, that he might take Arceus’ power and wield it himself. And yes, of course, of course it’d be so no one else would suffer so cruelly as they have, of course. Giratina likely didn’t care what happened once Volo received that power, whether Volo could actually wield that power without it completely overcoming his being and killing him in the process - it was enough to them that the world would be destroyed in the act, all of Arceus’ work lost.

But also, fast forwarding, I don’t think it was just the player’s beatdown that convinced Giratina to decide they wanted to protect the world instead of destroy it. Just that situation on its own seems… kind of wild to change the mind and motives of an ageless, stubborn, eldritch deity. I think Volo, the character with three friendship evolution Pokemon (two of which have notable Pokédex entries which say they will leave on a motherfucker if they dislike them!), may have been Giratina’s first steps into deciding the world their parent made was worth protecting. I mean, if humans like Volo existed, perhaps the rest of humanity wasn’t so bad, right? Volo, who nursed Giratina, who helped train them and make them stronger, who, while clearly still revering Giratina’s divinity, treated them as kindly as he did his own partners? And then came the human that humbled Dialga and Palkia, and Giratina was defeated twice by them, and while they respect the protag’s strength, it’s the desire to protect the world they came to care for that stuck out to Giratina. If someone could love the world so much that they would spit in the face of the gods, not once or twice, but three times… there must be something there worth protecting.

… and so Volo was left abandoned, once by Arceus, then by Giratina, and if you have headcanons similar to mine, that’s an even longer list. Frankly the angle of Volo being used by Giratina makes him an interesting foil to the main character - who is the protagonist of PL:A if not a pawn sent by Arceus to do their bidding?

Once again am I capable of holding onto even a single thread of a thought while making a post? Not yet but TL;DR I love Volo and explorations of Volo’s character very much

Combined with how Bal never seemed angry enough with Ambrosius, even after he cut off his arm, until Ambrosius withdrew his emotional support, it seemed to me like that was the core of their relationship. Ballister isn't impressed or swayed with material things or even external actions. He cares about emotional supportiveness. He cares about Queen Valerin looking him in the eyes as a child and telling him she has faith in him. He cares about Ambrosius showering him with emotional support and validation, without any embarrassed indirectness.

One of the things I liked about Goldenheart's portrayal in the movie, was how emotionally supportive and unhesitatingly vulnerable/open Ambrosius was with Bal.

I think that as soon as Ambrosius figures out that that's the type of love that Bal wants to be showered with, Ambrosius would stop worrying so much about insulting Bal with expressions of affection through wealth and privilege status.

Given how Ambrosius acts repressed around other characters besides Bal, I suspect that the type of love that Bal wants to receive through supportive emotional honesty, is probably a way that Ambrosius naturally acts around Ballister. Ballister may be the only one with whom Ambrosius can act as his honest self, without endangering the prestigious facade of the "direct descendent of Gloreth". If Bal is the only one Ambrosius can be emotionally honest around, then this allowance could be a very needed floodgate that Ambrosius desperately takes full advantage of. Maybe that's why he is able to be so emotionally open with Bal; he has to be so repressed around everyone else in his life. Being emotionally open, vulnerable, and sincere, towards Bal, is as much a self-fulfilling need for Ambrosius, as it is catering to Bal's emotional needs and preferences in love expression. It could be a coincidence, with how well their needs slot so well together, regardless of how actually self-serving each's needs are. But that "selfishness" doesn't make it a bad thing. It just makes them fit together with each other's needs. Ballister wants direct emotional support; Ambrosius can't help but be emotionally open and sincere in all his affections for Ballister. Ambrosius wants the freedom to be emotionally genuine; Ballister appreciates (rather than shames) all of Ambrosius's emotional honesty, whether Ambrosius is being silly or immediately vulnerable.

Maybe at the beginning of their relationship, Ambrosius would have had trouble, indirectly insulting Ballister with all his wealth, status, and privilege, contrasting against Ballister's lack of. But I think that as soon as Ambrosius stops trying to express his love through "conventional means" (overt uses of wealth, expensive grand gestures), and just starts being his natural self around Bal, then it's not that much of an issue in their love language anymore. It isn't even part of their equation. The love language that Bal wants from Ambrosius is the thing that Ambrosius desperately wants and is only allowed in Bal's presence. Maybe it might SEEM selfish to Ambrosius at first, like he's taking advantage of Bal listening to him venting, or putting up with his silliness, or internally cringing at Ambrosius's vulnerable sincerity. But as soon as Ballister lets him know that he actually LOVES all that stuff and isn't begrudgingly enduring anything from Ambrosius, regarding his emotional openness, then Ambrosius will have figured out the type of expressions of affection that Bal wants from him, also fulfills Ambrosius.
