Jackson Browne at Palace Theatre, Columbus, Ohio, June 3, 2023
With a fat songbook so packed with quality deep cuts and hits that he can’t possibly play all - or even most - of them, Jackson Browne walked on stage unannounced and by his lonesome June 3 in Columbus and kicked off his U.S. tour with …
… a solo-electric cover of Warren Zevon’s “Don’t Let Us Get Sick.”
It was an unexpected, gutsy and successful move that immediately won over the nearly sold-out Palace Theatre. It elicited warm applause as Browne sang Zevon’s prayer and immediately established his 74-year-old voice is much younger than its chronological age:
Don’t let us get sick, don’t let us get old/don’t let us get stupid, all right/just make us be brave and make us play nice/and let us be together tonight
It set the tone for a loose evening that found Browne engaging with the audience, teasing his guitar tech and heaping well-deserved praise upon the members of his freshly pared-down group.
After the Zevon number, Browne brought out his powerhouse “half-full band” - Greg Leisz (Watkins Family Hour, Bob Weir and Wolf Bros) on lap steel, acoustic and electric guitars; his wife, Mai Leisz, (David Crosby) on bass; drummer Mauricio Lewak; and singers Chavonne Stewart and Alethea Mills (who doubled on percussion) - and got right down to business with the show proper, which was generous across 60- and 90-minute sets.
Saying “I wanna play them all,” but knowing he couldn’t possibly do so, Browne, who accompanied his bandmates on acoustic and electric guitars and piano, did cover 49 years of music making, crafting a setlist that spanned from 1972’s “Doctor My Eyes” to 2021’s “Downhill from Everywhere,” a warning about the oceans’ fragile health and one of many highlights of the evening.
The reggae-tinged “I Am a Patriot” was another. Though released in 1985, the song seems to have intuited where the United States was headed. And Browne added some new lyrics - I ain’t no xenophobe, he sang - to place it even more firmly in the context of 2023.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Band members came and went to suit the songs. Stewart and Mills - who sang beautifully on occasional co-leads and in harmony with Browne, with whom they’ve developed an almost-familial blend - left their riser and joined the songwriter down front for “Until Justice is Real.” Greg Leisz and Browne played as a steel-and-piano duo on “Walls and Doors” and the (half) full band dug into “Running on Empty” so deeply that Browne kicked his leg high in the air and turned to stare down Leisz as he offered his take on the solo made famous by David Lindley, who died earlier this year.
Tumblr media
Being the first night of the tour with a new band and a new set, there were a few hiccups. A muffed note here. Some not-quite-honed arrangements there. The occasional false start and botched lyrics. And Leisz’s pedal-steel guitar sat lonely and untouched all evening long, suggesting Browne was calling audibles as the night unfolded.
Someone wanting to hear the records in a concert hall might say these things were evidence of Browne losing his edge. Someone out for the without-a-net experience (put Sound Bites in this camp) might revel in the not-set-in-stone nature that led to such surprises as Browne deciding the first set wasn’t long enough and tacking “For Everyman on to the end and causing Mai Leisz to run back on stage after assuming break time had come.
Tumblr media
The same thing happened to Greg Leisz at show’s end, when Browne opted to play “The Load-Out”/“Stay” and the multi-instrumentalist - who wowed Browne and the concertgoers all evening long - struggled to get his lap steel situated on time. He made it with less than a bar to spare and Browne rewarded Leisz by calling on him to extend his solo, which he did to rapturous applause.

Nils Lofgren; Photo by Carl Schulz
BY JORDAN MAINZER
Three shows, three legends still at it.
David Crosby, Arcada Theatre
CSNY member/Twitter master David Crosby released his fourth solo album in five years, the surprisingly great Here If You Listen, last year. However, he’s currently on a tour entitled Sky Trails, named after his 2017 record, with members of CPR, the jazzy band consisting of him, his son James Raymond on keyboards, and guitarist Jeff Pevar. (Others playing include bassist Mai Leisz, drummer Steve DiStanislao, and keyboardist Michelle Willis.) However, expect him to perform his greatest solo and CSNY hits tonight.
Johnny Marr, Vic Theatre
We caught Johnny Marr briefly at last year’s Riot Fest and described his set as “the sound of classic Smiths songs coming from someone who isn’t an insufferable blowhard.” While that doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement, I do find Marr’s sets wholly enjoyable. His most recent album was last year’s Call the Comet, but he dropped a new track in February, the sparkling disco jam “Armatopia”.
Nils Lofgren Band, City Winery
Guitarist/songwriter and E Street Band/Crazy Horse/Grin member Nils Lofgren plays his second night at City Winery to celebrate the release of Blue With Lou, his new collection of songs, half of which were co-written with none other than Lou Reed. The songs were recorded with drummer Andy Newmark, bassist Kevin McCormick, and vocalist Cindy Mizelle, all who will be playing with Lofgren tonight, and one Reed-Lofgren track features saxophonist Branford Marsalis. Bonus for tonight: brother/Grin member Tom Lofgren joins the band on guitars, keyboards, and vocals.

VAMPIRE WEEKEND: THE FOURTH AWAKENS
On May 25, 2018, Vampire Weekend posted on their official Instagram account for the first time in five years. People have been wondering about their fourth album since the end of the MVOTC era in 2014 - they are currently signed to Columbia Records for a 2-album deal and artist Nicholas Harwood is expected to be contributing his help as a creative director (other musicians he’s worked with include SOPHIE, Porches, and Dev Hynes).
Here’s a summary of the most definitive and current info so far:
November 2016 - CT does an interview with The Ringer’s Channel 33 podcast to talk about his solo music project, Dams of the West, but also talked a bit about VW LP4 saying that work was being done, but that there was also a lot to do. He also mentioned in passing that there was “some label stuff that [the band] had to figure out”.
March 2017 - Ezra makes a post on Instagram about the progress of LP4 saying, “obviously, we gotta take our time & get it right but the fans deserve some information.” He went on to mention that 2015 was spent working on a “vibey project” (which turned out to be his animated Netflix show, “Neo Yokio”), 2016 was spent on writing LP4 and “researching w/ the grad students”, and 2017 will be (was) spent “recording, trying to finish ASAP.” He also revealed that some song titles at the time were “Conversation” and “Flower Moon”, and that the working title of LP4 is “Mitsubishi Macchiato” because “it’s a helpful concept.”
September 2017 - Ezra mentions to a fan on Twitter that the album is “80% done but the last 20% is always the hardest”. Later that month, in an interview with Q Magazine, he said that he had been working on the album “constantly”: “I can say that the end is somewhat in sight. All the songs are written, most of them are recorded to some capacity, but it’s the tinkering process now.”
October 2017 - In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ezra mentions working with guitarists Steve Lacy and Greg Leisz in the process of making LP4.
December 2017 - In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ezra confirms that Rostam Batmanglij will be contributing to a few tracks on LP4 (the first album without Rostam as a member of VW) and that Ariel Rechtshaid has returned as well and is “a huge part of this album”.
January 2018 - End of the Road festival announces their lineup, featuring Vampire Weekend as headliners. The festival takes place from 30 August - 2 September at Larmer Tree Gardens, UK, and will be Vampire weekend’s ONLY UK festival date for summer 2018.
February 2018 - The very next day after it was announced that Vampire Weekend would be headlining End of the Road festival, their website, vampireweekend.com, is revamped to only show the band’s name against a plain white background.  The Fuji Rock Festival in Japan also announces that Vampire Weekend will be part of their 2018 lineup (July 27 - 29, Naeba Ski Resort, Yuzawa-cho, Niigata Prefecture, Japan).
March 2018 - Lollapalooza announces that Vampire Weekend will be a part of their 2018 lineup (August 2 - 5, Grant Park, Chicago).
April 2018 - Splendour in the Grass festival announces that Vampire Weekend will be a part of their 2018 lineup (July 20 - 22, North Byron Parklands, New South Wales, Australia) and it will be an Australian exclusive show. On April 23rd, Vampire Weekend made a surprise appearance at Running Late with Scott Rogowsky at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles. They performed an 8-minute version of ‘Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa’ which segued into a cover of ‘Here Comes the Sun’. Joining Vampire Weekend on stage were several additional musicians, thought to be potential new touring members of the band.
May 2018 - On the 19th, Vampire Weekend make a second surprise appearance performing at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles.
On May 25th, Vampire Weekend posted on their official Instagram account for the first time in 5 years. The first two new photos are of a broken SONY television and a COLUMBIA fleece. They also post several Instagram stories featuring CT playing ‘Oxford Comma’ on drums, Baio playing ‘Don’t Lie’ on bass, and Vampire Weekend’s original guitar tech playing CCKK. They also have a “bucket hat reveal” of songs for potential upcoming festival setlists (which include ‘I Think Ur A Contra’, ‘Diane Young’, ‘Campus’, ‘Ottoman’, ‘M79’, ‘Unbelievers’, ‘Giving Up The Gun’, and ‘The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance’, among others).
On May 30th, Vampire Weekend announce that they’ll be performing two shows on June 16 and 17 at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai, CA. Tickets went on sale June 1st and sold out in one minute.
June 2018 - On the 15th, one of the additional musicians who joined Vampire Weekend on stage at their surprise appearance at Largo at the Coronet, Brian Robert Jones, is confirmed to be joining Vampire Weekend as a touring member on guitar. Musician Greta Morgan is also confirmed to be joining Vampire Weekend as a touring member on keys, vocals, and guitar.
On the 16th, Vampire Weekend perform their first live show in four years at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai, CA. They play their entire self-titled album front to back, several songs from ‘Contra’ and ‘MVOTC’, ‘New Dorp, New York’, a cover of ‘Right Down the Line’, ‘Down 4 So Long’ (where they were joined by Makonnen and Despot), and ‘Tuesday’ (performed with Makonnen). They are joined by additional touring musicians Garrett Ray (drums, percussion, vocals) and Will “Bucket Hat” Canzoneri (keys, vocals). (The show also included the live debut of ‘Worship You’.
On June 17th, Vampire Weekend play their second show at the Libbey Bowl in Ojai, CA. Their setlist includes songs from their first three albums, covers of ‘Sunday Morning’ (Velvet Underground) and ‘Son of a Preacher Man’, and performances of ‘Sister of Pearl’ by Baio, a remix of ‘Step’ featuring Despot, and a version of ‘I Think UR A Contra’ with Richard Pictures and Amandla Stenberg on violin. The band also plays a live preview of a snippet of a new song called ‘Flower Moon’, from their upcoming fourth album.

Listed: Silver Torches
Tumblr media
With some time spent in the Globes and as a touring musician for Perfume Genius and David Bazan, multi-instrumentalist songwriter Erik Walters has come into his own as Silver Torches. His Americana stylings build on their indie influences and Pacific Northwest roots while Walters responds to this distinct time with a personal vision. Aided by guests like Greg Leisz, Noah Gunderson, and Courtney Marie Andrews (as well as a fuller band), Walters has refined his sound for second album Let It Be a Dream. At times, Silver Torches drifts toward country; other times they're one step away from a pop album (which previous track “Woman in Rust” might have suggested). The disc maintains a steady atmosphere around the flexible band, letting Walters's strong melodies and careful lyrics define his work. While Walters might still be assembling a steady band (or not), he's found his place with this release. For this Listed entry, Walters connects his listening with personal moments, saying, “I’m going for specific memories or feelings that certain records give me or remind me of. Figured something anecdotal would be more interesting.”
Big Star – #1 Record
youtube
This record will always remind me of living in Spokane, driving around town listening to records because there was nothing else to do. I'd ride around with my friend Nathan, who owned this big Buick sedan, listening to Bowie, Pixies, The Stones, The Beatles, lots of Weezer. He introduced me to Big Star. Thirteen is one of my favorite songs. I still always skip past The India Song, though.
Wilco – A Ghost Is Born
youtube
I sat next to my friend Cole on a long bus ride we took to a jazz festival in high school and he played me this record. I didn't get it. I liked Summerteeth better because it was brighter and more pop, not realizing how dark that record really is. When I finally dove into Yankee Hotel Foxtrot my whole world changed. That album made me want to make records, but A Ghost Is Born has been the record I come back to most often. It's still exciting to me. So raw, so dynamic and bold.
David Bowie – Blackstar
youtube
The first time I heard Blackstar was driving back from a show somewhere out of town. Everyone was talking and the stereo wasn't great so I could kind of hear it. I remember thinking it was pretty weird and the drums were cool. It may have been that night, or the next, when I was sitting up in my living room and saw the tweets pouring in. When I saw the New York Times report it I knew it was real. My girlfriend and I listened to the record the next day at home and were so moved by it. Bowie creates another world inside this record. You put it on and step inside a dark, chaotic, beautiful place.
Bon Iver – 22, A Million
youtube
I was on the east coast for a short run of shows with my friend Kris last fall. This had just come out and we listened front to back at least once a day on our drives. We had a rental car and were making our way out of New York when we decided to park somewhere we weren't supposed to so we could make a bathroom stop. We were gone maybe ten minutes, confident the car would be alright where we left it. When we came back our car was gone. 2 hours and a few hundred dollars later, we were back in business and had 22, A Million on the speakers right away. NYPD tow trucks don't mess around.
Refused – The Shape Of Punk To Come
youtube
It was the crack of dawn in Denver and I climbed into the passenger seat of the van on our way to play SXSW in Austin with my old band, back in 2009 or '10. We were about to embark on the long drive when our friend, Ben, who was traveling with us, put on this record, super loud, as the sun was coming up. It cured my hangover and blew my mind. One of the best shows I've seen, too.
Foals – Total Life Forever
youtube
I'd moved back to Spokane and was working at the now defunct and sorely missed Empyrean, an all ages venue downtown. I would listen to the first half of this record on my way to work and the second half on my way home on the nights I didn't go to Baby Bar after my shift. My favorite moment on the album is the end of 'Spanish Sahara" when the drums come in with that straight beat after a long build, and just rides on it for a while. It feels so damn good, every time.
Portishead – Third
youtube
When this record came out I played it almost every day. I was living with my band in the Central District neighborhood. We had a weird hexagonal shelf where our turn table lived that lit up and had a disco ball inside of it that I'd turn on when I played records. I remember putting it on in the mornings, making coffee, having a cigarette on the porch with the window open, listening to the speakers from the living room. This record and PJ Harvey's White Chalk give me a similar, foreboding feeling. When I saw Portishead in Seattle and I'm pretty sure they blew the subs at the venue when they played "Machine Gun". I thought it was fantastic.
Autolux – Future Perfect
youtube
I was in a band called The Globes that formed in high school and was a thing until 2012 or so. We only made one record, but were fortunate enough to make it with John Goodmanson, (Blonde Redhead, Unwound, Death Cab For Cutie) and had it released on Barsuk. We were all obsessed with Future Perfect, especially the drum work by Carla Azar. Every time I put this one on I'm reminded of long drives in the van, long days in our basement rehearsal room, late nights with friends listening to records, Rainer beer, dive bars and bad PAs.
Steve Reich – Music For 18 Musicians
youtube
It was the middle of winter and I was driving across the state with my friend Marcus in a blizzard. We were in the band van, which was his family's Ford Excursion, which is very heavy. Even with four wheel drive and all of the weight we were sliding, and to make things worse, visibility was nonexistent. We couldn't see the lines of the road, and could barely see 10 feet in front of us. Being young and stupid we persevered, almost rear ended a semi, had some other close calls, but were kept focused by Steve Reich's "Music For 18 Musicians". It is truly an incredible piece and musical feat, beautiful and mesmerizing. I'll never forget getting lost in the sound with the snow coming down in our high beams against this blue/black, endless background. Surreal.
Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavillion
youtube
This album will always make me think of a very specific time in my life. I was interning at KEXP in Seattle, I met my girlfriend, I was getting to know the city, myself, learning, touring, exploring. It was a really fun, good time. The lyrics on this record are smart, the melodies are brilliant, and under all of the crazy production and sounds are really great songs. I played this a lot and still do.

Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes Cook up Bland Remake of “Going Home”
An over abundance of cooks can result in a dish that is, at worst, gross, or, with some luck, simply flavorless.
Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes is the latter with nearly 60 musicians - including Jeff Beck in his final performance; Beck’s fellow former Yardbird Eric Clapton; an MG (Steve Cropper); a slice of Humble Pie called Peter Frampton; a Black Crowe (Audley Freed) and Sheryl Crow; a Genesis (Mike Rutherford) and a Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi); a Traffic (Dave Mason) and a Pretender (Robbie McIntosh); a Cheap Trick (Rick Nielsen); a Chic Nile Rodgers, a Toto (Steve Lukather); a Beatle called Ringo and Stone Face called Ronnie Wood; and a couple of Eagles (Vince Gill and Joe Walsh) among them - teaming up on a 10-minute remake of “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
Producer Guy Fletcher was left with the unenviable task of melding 54 players’ contributions into a single track. In that regard, he succeeded. But to do so, he had to stir everyone so far into the mix that even the easiest-to-identify guitar slingers - think David Gilmour, Buddy Guy, Brian May, Joe Satriani and Derek Trucks - are rendered anonymous.
Knopfler is the one guy who seems to appear on the entire track, as his telltale licks pop through across the runtime.
It’s not that 2024’s “Local Hero” is musically worthless. It’s just that with names like Ry Cooder, Sonny Landreth, Greg Leisz, Tom Morello, Susan Tedeschi, Pete Townshend and Steve Vai in the credits, listeners’ expectations far exceed what Fletcher cooked up at the board.

Press Release:
»HARSH ASTRAL. The Radiants II« is the conceptual continuation of the exhibition »The Radiants« which in 2015 was presented by Bortolami Gallery in New York and in a similar fashion in spring 2018 at Galerie Francesca Pia in Zurich. While the theme in New York was radioactivity in the broadest sense set against the background of the fourth anniversary of the earthquake and its resulting crisis of the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima Daiichi, which prompted the foundation of both the Green Tea Gallery and the UNITED BROTHERS, »HARSH ASTRAL. The Radiants II« brings together works that revolve not only around radioactivity, but loosely and associatively follow the motif of radiation, transformation and energy in general, thus spreading out in different directions. Interestingly, radioactivity is permeated by a fundamental moment of ambivalence, which has less to do with the phenomenon itself than with its potential use, since every science and technology possesses both a utopian and a dystopian aspect. The fact that there is no escape―despite the end of the downright atomic euphoria in the 1950s, at least in Western countries, and the commencing critical questioning of it―is demonstrated not at least by the threat of renewed nuclear armament three decades after the end of the Cold War. So beyond the permanent threat it poses in civilian use as energy, radioactivity is now attaining political explosiveness once again.
The exhibition features works that quite concretely start with the catastrophy of Fukushima, as well as works that are connected to the theme in a more associative manner. For example, the video by Norimizu Ameya/Iwaki Sogo High School documenting the performance of a play produced in collaboration with students of Sogo High School in Iwaki Fukushima that is based on the personal memories of the earthquake and tsunami and the resulting nuclear disaster. Chaos*Lounge have been independently organizing an art and street theater festival in Fukushima since 2015, during which they distribute letters to the members of the audience at different places in the city as part of the play. In order to relate this experience to the visitors of the exhibition in Lüneburg, people who are interested, can ask to have the letters sent to them. The LED images of Ei Arakawa approach the incident in a similarly poetic manner by “singing” about the nuclear disaster of 3/11 in a song, while referring to the picture »Massen« by Jutta Koether who is also featured in the show with a work. Similarly Nobuyoshi Araki’s photography engages with the nuclear accident in a more subjective manner. It is based on one of Araki’s photo diaries created over three months in parallel to and after the disaster, to which he reacted by scratching the negatives. In the more documentary video work by the young artist Bontaro Dokyama from Fukushima, anti-nuclear activists who have illegally built an »Anti-Nuclear Museum« consisting of tents in front of a government building in Kasumigaseki are lent a voice. All these works make reference to the actual disaster in Fukushima in 2011. Twenty years beforehand, Susumu Katsumata had already drawn comics of Japanese atomic power plants as well as the threat they pose. His volume »Fukushima Devil Fish« with is on display in the exhibition, accompanied by a lecture from Ryan Holmberg on Katsumata and the genre of Japanese »Atomic Comic«.
Other works of the show allude in a more general way to the theme of (radioactive) disaster. Lucie Stahl’s work, for example, is based on her childhood memories of the atomic accident of Chernobyl in 1986. Terry Riley’s piece is the soundtrack of Bruce Conner’s film »Crossroad« from 1976 that shows images of the explosion of an atomic bomb on the Bikini atoll in 1946 in extreme slow motion. Also strongly infuenced by music is the work of Alivia Zivich, who with Nate Young ran the Detroit noise music label »AA Records«, whose band »The Demons« in turn wrote the soundtrack for Zivich’s videos »Life Destroyer« and »Head Threeways«, which is projected onto her painted cloths. Henning Bohl’s drawing loosely refers to the literary genre of »Cosmic Horror« with the lettering »Fatal« and thus evokes dystopic and apocalyptic scenes; a motif against which one can also read the gray-black works of Anita Leisz, the works of Kitty Kraus or the sci-fi-like android theater of Oriza Hirata/Seinendan.
The motif of radioactivity, radiation and energy as a purely physical phenomenon is the starting point of a series of further works of the show. Ariane Müller’s video »Marie Curie oder jahrelang im Wohnzimmer und nur lesen«, for instance, shows a woman reading the diary of the physicist and rubbing her fingers, from which sparks emanate. Erika Kobayashi’s dollar sign object, made of uranium that glows in ultraviolet light are also based on a narration having to do with Marie Curie, who used pitchblende (a mineral uraninite) from Joachimsthal in the Czech Republic for her research on radium, for which she received the Nobel Prize as the frst woman. Yuki Okumura’s work uses email communication on a fuorescent picture, which due to this quality was assessed as potentially highly sensitive by the museum staff, to demonstrate the purely projective and paranoid equation of glowing = radioactivity = dangerous. Jay Chung’s & Q Takeki Maeda’s »March Painting«, in contrast, is painted with a pigment, Nano Prussian Blue, that can indeed be associated with radioactivity, but was originally used to dye Prussian military uniforms blue. Since it binds radioactive cesium, scientists are currently investigating whether it can be used to decontaminate radioactive areas. Referencing the picture by Chung & Maeda, Henning Bohl and students of his class at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in a workshop with Ei Arakawa titled Mutant Autopilot Brushes developed the song »Nano Prussian Blue« and painted so-called ‘mutant’ pictures with precisely this pigment that are presented along with the song in a ‘karaoke stage installation’. The work by Pratchaya Phintong also deals with a recent scientific discovery, in this case with methane hydrate that is deposited in huge amounts on and under the sea foor and considered a potential source of energy for the future, even though its extraction is extremely risky and could have far-reaching effects on the climate. A purely fctive source of energy, or energy production, is at the center of the work »L△▽△ L△▽E« by Kerstin Brätsch/UNITED BROTHER/Sergei Tcherepnin/Stefan Tcherepnin, a sort of science fiction in which mysterious agents merge with the earth’s lava energy. This utopian vision and fiction of energy and light places the work close to that of August Wenzel Hablik, an artist of the early 20th century, for whom visionary utopias played a pivotal role in the form of utopian crystals and light architectures.

Mai Leisz On This Month's Groove - The No Treble Podcast
Mai Leisz is this month's conversation on Groove - The No Treble Podcast.
You can listen the new episode right here: Groove - The No Treble Podcast - Episode #42 - Mai Leisz.
Who is Mai Leisz?
She just turned thirty, but she is an old soul. It's for this reason that artists like David Crosby, Joan Baez, Amos Lee, Seal and others enlist her for bass duties. Mai Leisz (formerly Mai Agan) is a curious and engaging bass player. The Estonian born composer started on classical violin and piano. At the age of 16, she picked up the electric bass. After moving to Sweden she found herself touring and playing with the best of the best from both Estonia and Sweden. Then, on a fateful day, while busking in Stockholm she ran into Greg Leisz and Bob Glaub from Jackson Browne. Things have never been the same since. Mai's story is almost as magical as her playing. And, while young in years, her style and attitude are strong and powerful... and in demand.
Enjoy the conversation...
Groove - Episode #42: Mai Leisz by No Treble
Listen in: Groove - The No Treble Podcast - Episode #42 - Mai Leisz.
What is Groove - The No Treble Podcast?
This is an ambitious effort. This will be a fascinating conversation. Our goal at Groove is to build the largest oral history of bass players. Why Groove? Most of the content about the bass revolves around gear, playing techniques, and more technical chatter. For us, bassists are creative artists with stories to tell. They are a force to be reckon with. These are the stories and conversation that we will capture. To create this oral history of why these artists chose the bass, what their creative lives are like, and where inspiration can be found.
