obey me characters as the asian extended family stereotypes!! older brother edition
younger brothers / dateables / undateables
massive disclaimer: i am chinese-malaysian, and this is created solely off my own personal experiences and videos on the internet i have seen regarding this topic. these experiences and memories may not apply to you. this is also a joke, these are stereotypes and do not apply to all asian families or all ethnic families. also may be a little ooc since i havent played om! yet
lucifer: the exemplary cousin
when i think of this guy, all i see is my younger cousin
absolute genius, gets high grades, focuses on school, DOES VIOLIN AND PIANO, wears the most concealing clothing, very mature
be prepared because your parents are about to relentlessly compare you to him
"aiyoh mc, why are you not like lucifer yet?! when he was your age, he was raising all his brothers on the streets after he fell from heaven, and what are you doing loh? smoking weed? doing cigarette? studying to be artist?"
during family gatherings, he is absolutely smothered in attention by all the aunties and uncles. most of the time sits with the parents instead of the kids and talks about whatever the fuck they talk about at the parents table
every other kid there gives him the death glare because these mfs KNOW he is loving the attention and the massive ego boost it gives him.
mammon: the disgrace
ok my southeast asian homies (and maybe south as well) we all know this mf
the main antagonist of the auntie gossip
often comes in the form of a sketchy uncle
has at LEAST two tattoos and one of them is probably a dragon (i am projecting my own disgrace uncle on to him so hard)
got in a lot of trouble for either scamming another relative out of money or gambling away their families money
smokes on the balcony during gatherings (if he's even allowed to go)
actually pretty nice and funny but nobody wants to be around him because hes a lowkey faliure. most of the older kids like hanging around him, but often dont stay around him too long as their parents are worried of his influence.
also he probably took up modeling which made the aunties hate him even more
eyes flick to mammon as he seats himself at the dining table, and he responds to them with a nervous smile. "mammon," one of the adults starts lowly, in a belittling tone that made him sick to his stomach. "didn't bring anything to the gathering, not even 古老肉..." they look at him before adding another taunt. "oh.. that's right.. you never learned mandarin, did you? nothing to contribute lah. always take, take, take with you. just LIKE WHAT YOU DID TO MY HUSBAND'S MONEY!!"
ruckus erupts as everyone on the adults table simultaneously starts yelling, as though the family tension built up over the past year head finally snapped.
shit.
Leviathan: the teenager
congratulations dude, you just got the most underrated type of asian at a family gathering.
doesn't get as much attention as lucifer due to being relatively mediocre and not as talented as him, but will occasionally his parents will flex his coding skills or an award he got at school.
doesnt really talk due to not much people at the family gathering being his age group, so he mostly sits in a very solitary corner of the kids table on an uncomfortably small plastic chair and plays games to pass the time.
SPEAKING OF GAMES
the moment the asian parents kick the kids off to the nintendo switch or wii u so they can freely argue about politics or whatever (im not sure im still stuck at the kids table 😭), this man completely shifts.
beats everyone MULTIPLE TIMES. makes them fucking bawl. oh my gosh its actually so funny.
the little kids hate him because he beats them so often in mario kart.

Random Headcanons #4: Aoi and You Being The Mother(s)
GO SHOPPING TOGETHER
Seriously, the Queen Victoria Building is beautiful. I can’t believe a Malaysian man technically saved it, and from Ipoh!
Homies/Neighbours, where you at???
Let’s admit it, even if you two aren’t in love or anything, you two are probably the more sane ones in the group.
… Seriously, Yura’s route has officially scarred me for life.
Both of you have to mother the babies in not just the Dawn Faction but also the Twilight and technically having to ground the rebels in the Night Sect.
Except for Nachi. Aoi’s secret favourite and your not-so-secret favourite.
So why not indulge in some retail therapy?
Other than just getting supplies at the supermarket…
You know like food for 15 + Extra 20 portions for Ginnojo…
Band-Aids for the supremely reckless ones like Koga and apparently Yura and Gaku.
Gaku’s mechanics so that Nachi doesn’t ‘accidentally’ scratches them.
Blankets for Kuya.
Alarm bells for Kuya.
Ingredients for Oji’s menu.
A chart full of daily reminders for Oji. Free thanks to Aoi’s bargaining skills… and the vendor taking pity on him.
#GiveAoiABreak
A cage for Kagemaru and Akiyasu because you two are also matchmakers.
Oh and you two are chattering happily…
Why?
Because Nachi insisted on carrying everything.
For someone who claims to get bullied frequently, he sure likes the most painful way of gaining muscles.

So,
One thing abt me thats useless for y’all to know is that i dont rlly like ditching friends
I mean, if i see someone in my grp that is left behind, i would look out for them and help them out
I just do not know why i do it
I mean, i know i wouldnt get any prize or something but i just feel bad leaving them
I have an issue right now where
My legs are fractured and have to stay at home for months and
Me as a boarding school student and also an introvert that wants to be an extrovert, gets sad cuz i cant see my friends or talk to one
I am also afraid of calls cuz
Idk i just hate them for some reason
And like im having an issue with my friend
Well, i text ppl alot, i like texting more than calls or voice messages
I dont like exposing my voices too much
So this issue rises where my friend dont like texting and always busy
And i sometimes get pissed of cuz of the way he text me
I mean, if u asked a question, and he just blueticks u and text back tmrw, saying “sup my ni**a” wont u get pissed of too?
I mean he is indian-singaporean-malaysian so his skin tone is... and i am frikkin normal malaysian which means im white but like
Man, no respect at all, i mean ofc, homies right?
But like bluetick till tmrw? And answer something else?
I mean, just wow
Now, im sorry for wasting y’all time, but i bet no ones gonna read this anyway. Just for future me i guess. Ugghhh i hate my life and love it at the same time UGGGHHHHHH

volunteering
Tumblr media
I did not want my semester break this time to be just wasting time with doing nothing. I was contemplating on getting a part time job. A barista? Working retail? But then, timing ain’t that good, it was Ramadhan and I didn’t really want to miss the family iftar. Save it for another time. I have been dwelling on the idea of volunteering.
I came across a worldwide NGO, AIESEC on my late night google search on “volunteering in Malaysia” I was intrigued by the fact this organisation is a platform for youth all over the world to have a chance to volunteer in another country according to the projects they picked. It was like a good opportunity when I saw they have a ‘Local Volunteer’ option. I mean I get to experience what is it like in an intercultural environment but the advantage is I get to do it in the comfort of my home country. Made that impulse decision to register to the project and it happened to be the best decision yet.
6 weeks with total strangers.
If not now, then when?
I was beyond nervous on my first day. I did not know what to expect and I know no one. All worries were gone when I stepped into the house, every single person I met was so open and friendly. Such a great start to the program. That was the day for the exchange participants to explore KL. Playing tourist was the perfect way to mingle with everyone and getting to know who I am going to see for the next 6 weeks.
Every exchange participant came with a cause/project they will work on during their stay in Malaysia. I chose the ‘Speak Up’ project that aims to improve public speaking and English proficiency skills among students in Malaysia. I’m by no means a great proficient speaker but to be better you gotta practice what you’ve got and spread what you know right? Deep down, I was so grateful I took Speech/Persuasion Communication last semester. Finally, got to put the theories to good use, in the real world.
The project I work on was like this big bag of surprises. It was nothing I could ever imagine. We had to construct public speaking workshops for the students from various different schools. There were a lot of planning sessions, emergency meetings and of course the group disagreements. All in all, the best part of the whole project was really not about us. It was always about the students’ progress. It was an amazing feeling where some students went up to me and wanted to know how can they improve. We might not be able to impact everyone but I personally saw the growth in some. Small impact at a time, aye?
What I got from this whole experience?
I get to finally checked one thing off my mental bucket list! Volunteering somewhere done!
I saw myself do stuff that I would not think I could do if you were to ask me a few years ago. I led a public speaking workshop to a room full of students! A room full of high expectations and judgements. 16-year-old Nurin would tremble in front!
I made friends with people all over the world from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Canada, Morocco etc.  What a way to know more of a country than to meet and ask them straight! Thank god, for Global Village. Everyone got to display what’s good from their own respective countries and there was so many food involved. My favourite dish of the day was from my Pakistani homies, Seviyan! SO SO SO GOOD. It’s made of sweet roasted vermicelli in milk, cardamom with pistachios They were all saying how this was not as good as back home. I was just like “If this is good? Then how good were the original ones??!”
I got to be part of the solution to improve our Malaysian students’ English proficiency. Small baby steps for a better education system hehe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To the friends that were part of this amazing journey, if you are reading this somehow; Thank you for the great memories and laughter. We might never meet again but the chances are still there. Cannot wait to visit and explore your respective countries like you explored mine ~Nurin A.

So, it seems there’s a fight for superiority now, as a Malaysian-Based Nigerian Big Boy, Investor BJ has shaded Hushpuppi, and called himself the only Gucci King in Malaysia. If you don’t know who Investor BJ is, then you’re really not current.. You need to start following YBL more often! Investor BJ is a big boy, who’s based in Malaysia.. and he’s among the “socialites” 9ice praised in his song, Living things. Many saw the song as the glorification of fraud as he used the yahoo boy code “Chache” while he reeled out names of guys with unknown source of income.Recently, one of them called Hushpuppi aka Gucci Master got involved in a war of words with Nigerian rapper Ice Prince and Phyno. He called them out for putting on fake Patek Phillipe wrist watches, the original he actually has. The outburst between him and Phyno made him one of the sources for juicy gossips as he kept on displaying his extravagant Gucci lifestyle. It seems the fame enjoyed by Hushpuppi is beginning to make the other Malaysian boys green with envy. It is in this light that Investor BJ dropped a shade on Instagram claiming he is the only recognised Gucci man in Malaysia. He claims he doesn’t go to shops to test clothes and snap pictures, he simply buys them. Here is what he shared on Instagram below:- The only Nigerian /African (GUCCI) recognise in Malaysia as far as am concerned .. am right here with the Manager #PAVILION SHOPPING # Cash #No shipping #no CC# my homie @mobbliss just like me#not here to test cloth and snap. The Gang Miami
Tumblr media
[Nessa looks over the menu ... hmm... hmm... Malaysian lamb chops? Never had lamb. Fuck it! Lets get the lamb!] And this is the story of how my life forever changed!
After a long day at that hell hole work and a grueling session of tutoring (I freelance), I decided to blow off some steam and go blogging. Not knowing where I wanted to go, I pulled up my bookmarks on Yelp and decided on The Gang Miami.
The Gang Miami is an Asian fusion restaurant in the Midtown neighborhood which boasts “Good Food, Good Vibe, Good Karma…” is the concept of life…”.
It’s a funky little spot. Cool decor. The walls were accented with old newspaper clippings. The chairs didn’t match. The cups were multicolored. It gave a fun vibe--you didn’t have to feel the embarrassment of not knowing which fork to use with your meal.
The staff was friendly. I never had lamb so I wasn’t sure as to which temp it should be cooked. I let the server pick for me and he did a great job. Good lookin out, homie!
I devoured my meal. I’m not sure if the lamb was amazing since I never had it before ... but I liked it. It was a tad bit salty...but in a good way. The broccoli  (shout out to D.R.A.M was good and crisp. I HATE SOGGY BROCCOLI. The mashed potatoes weren’t too overpowering. They played their role as a great staple side dish.
I will more than likely return. The menu had a lot of things that really struck my eye. ...
