love hurts - rafe cameron
summary: in which you start to doubt rafe's love for you || warnings: drugs, mentions of overdosing, toxic relationship, reader slaps rafe, manipulation || genre: established relationship, angst || word count: approximately 1370
Lately, things have been rougher than usual between Rafe and you. I mean, sure, things were always kind of rough between you guys, but lately it'd been a bit more.. noticeable, if that makes sense.
He wasn't home often. When he was home he was often in a bad mood. You guys barely went on dates anymore. He wasn't texting you as much throughout the day the past few days either.
You were pretty much just left alone at home, lonely, while he went out to work. You knew that he was only out so much because he was working so much, but you were just tired of it lately. And truthfully, the working so much isn't what really bothered you, it was his lack of outward attention to you when he was around lately due to his bad moods.
Rafe had gotten home from being out working today, in yet another obviously bad mood so it wasn't a shock to you that shortly after he'd gotten home, he was sniffing up some coke to make himself "feel better".
You never really liked him doing coke. Any drugs really, but coke especially, considering how addictive it was and how obviously addicted he was. You were constantly worried that one day you'd come home and you'd find him dead from an overdose. It scared you.
You talked about how you didn't like it several times but Rafe only brushed you off. He did a lot of things for you but this was one thing he wasn't giving up, at least not any time soon.
You didn't really like being around him when he did coke, leaving the room when you saw him taking out the baggy with the white powder in it. He was fine with it and didn't bother you about it.
So, when you walked into the kitchen, you weren't exactly planning on him doing coke on the counter. You held your breath as you slowly walked over. When you walked over and lightly held onto his arm, he didn't even flinch as he continued slowly sniffing up the powder. It was when you spoke that he got annoyed.
"Rafe..." You quietly said and he already knew why you were saying his name.
"Y/n, don't." He said as he put his arm that you were holding onto out in front of you, lightly pushing you away as he went back to snorting the drugs.
You pouted, looking at him, watching as he slowly killed himself. You looked at him for a few moments before you lightly slapped his arm in annoyance.
Rafe looked up at you annoyed, "What's the problem?" He asked.
"You don't care about me." You whined and he just furrowed his eyebrows. Before he could even say anything back, you left the room, going upstairs to your guys' bedroom.
He stood in the kitchen, annoyed at what you said and also annoyed that you'd just walked off before he could even say something. He took some deep breaths as he tried to calm himself down before he went upstairs after you, wanting to ask what the hell that was all about, even though deep down, he knew.
You're sat on the bed, your knees curled up to your face as you wrap your arms around your legs and softly cry. You really were starting to feel uncared for and unloved by him. You're startled by the sound of the bedroom door opening and you look up to see Rafe coming inside. You looked away from him as you continued to cry.
"What's wrong, Y/n?" Rafe asked, trying to hold back but you could easily tell that he was really frustrated right now. You don't say anything as you look away. "Y/n, look at me." He sternly said and you looked over at him, sniffling as you wiped your tears.
"You don't care about me anymore." I said with a red face and pouty lips.
Rafe's eyebrows furrowed again as he closed his eyes for a moment, "What the fuck are you talking about?" He asked.
"You're barely home anymore, all you do is work. You barely even text me or call me throughout the day when you're out. When you're around, you pay no attention to me. I swear you hate me or something." You complained. Rafe let out an angry sigh at your words as he rubbed in between his eyebrows. "I mean, do you even love me anymore?" You then went on to say.
That was his breaking point. "Hey!" He loudly shouted. "Hey!" He shouted again, not as loud. "Watch your mouth." Rafe told you. "Of course, I love you, don't say something stupid like that ever again." He harshly said.
"No, you don't." You quietly said back.
"You don't know what the fuck you're saying." Rafe said. "Y/n, I work so much because I love you. I mean, we need money to survive, don't we? You want all those stupid clothes? Then, I have to work. I know that it's been more than usual lately but sometimes there's just times like that, there's nothing I can do about that." He told you. You let out a small sigh, you guessed he was right.
"I get that, Rafe, but when you are home, it just seems like you don't even care that I'm around." You said.
"Oh, so I'm the bad guy here because I'm tired after working all day long to provide for us?" Rafe asked.
"No, I never said that." You said, exasperatedly.
"I'm just tired out, you understand that, don't you?" Rafe then asked.
"I know, I just.." I trailed off, silent for a few moments. "You never listen to me when all I'm doing is caring about you." I said.
"I'm listening right now, Y/n." Rafe told you, letting out a sigh.
"Well, there's something you never listen about." You mentioned.
"Yeah? What's that? What are you going to complain about now?" Rafe then asked.
"I don't want you to do coke anymore!" You said.
"Here we go..." Rafe said, clenching his jaw as he sniffed.
"I know you're not going to listen to me but I'm scared all the time. Scared that I'll find you dead sometime!" I said, crying.
Rafe just looked at you. He wasn't going to give it up that easily and seeing you like this did make him feel bad, because, well he loved you. He always felt bad when you talked about this, but he was too self-involved to not make a change or even try to make a change when it came to drugs, not yet at least.
"I just.. I want you to know that." You quietly said, breaking the silence, as you cried, wiping your tears.
Rafe let out a sigh as he paced around the room a few times. You watched as he brought the palms of his hands to his eyes, holding them there, something he always did when he was frustrated and/or about to cry.
You hesitantly stood up, you don't know why you did, but you did. You then got up and went over to him. He slowed down, stopped, and looked down at you, removing his hands from his face.
You didn't say anything as you wrapped your arms around his muscular body, resting you face against his chest. He wrapped his arms around you, holding you as close to him as possible.
"I love you, Y/n. I don't want to hear you saying that I don't again. I do, I always will." Rafe softly told you.
"I'm sorry." You apologized.
"I'll.." there was a few moments of silence, "I'll try and be better when I'm home with you. I shouldn't be working as much as I have soon. I just have to get one big project done and that's it, then it'll be like before." Rafe said.
It was rare for Rafe to apologize and say things like this. He only ever really apologized to you.
"I love you, Rafe." Was all you could find the words to say in response.
"I know you do, Y/n." He softly said. "I love you too." He then told you.

revenge - rafe cameron
summary: someone hurts you and rafe gets revenge || warnings: y/n is hit and pushed, alcohol, rafe throws the glass, rafe kills someone but there are no details|| genre: established relationship, angst || word count: approximately 1120
I said goodbye to my friends, still crying after what had happened only 15 minutes ago. My friends asked if I needed them to come inside with me and hang out with me for a bit but I declined their offer, saying that I'd be fine.
I walked towards the front door of Tannyhill, and my friends car drove off, I knew they were all worried due to my condition.
I tried to calm donw a little as I unlocked and opened the front door and was met with a mostly dark home. I made my way over to the kitchen, where I could see that the kitchen light was on, going to see if my boyfriend was in there.
I was seriously nervous for his reaction but all I wanted was him.
I walked into the kitchen and I looked over at Rafe, who was sat at the island, scrolling on his phone as he drank some liquor from a fancy glass cup. He looked over at me and immediately furrowed his eyebrows.
"What the fuck happened to you, Y/n?" Rafe sternly asked he slammed the glass down on the counter, causing me to flinch. He came over to me and brought his hands to my face, holding onto it a little too roughly. "Who did this?" He asked.
"I don't know." I cried out, as he moved his hands from my face to my arms.
"Tell me what happened." Rafe instructed, his jaw clenching at my state, wanting to know who did this so he could kill them, and with Rafe, he wasn't exaggerating when it came to thinking that. He'd really kill them.
"I... I was at the party. Everything was going good." I shakily said.
Rafe nodded, giving me a soft, "Uh-huh.", just wanting to get to what happened to you.
"I got a drink for myself and turned around and accidentally bumped into a girl a splashed some of my drink on her." Rafe nodded, listening to me, still holding onto my arms. "She got really made even though I apologized right away and started talking all this shit." I explained. "I don't know, next thing I knew she slapped me in the face." I told Rafe and I felt his grip on my arms tighten a little.
"What'd you do? You better have hit her back." Rafe said in a serious tone.
"I- I didn't. I really didn't want to fight so I just pushed her away from me and went to walk away. Then her boyfriend came over.." I said and that's when I really felt Rafe's grip on me tighten, holding the grip. It hurt, especially due to the condition I was in. I didn't bother to say anything though, I could already tell that Rafe was fuming.
"I- her boyfriend came over and started yelling at me for pushing his girl, even though she started everything and slapped me first. I only pushed her away to get away from her. He didn't care though and so he came over, slapped me in the face, and pushed me to the ground. It was concrete so... that's why I'm all cut up." I told Rafe.
Rafe let go of me, I watched him tighten his fists into a ball as his jaw clenched. "Show me the damn cuts." H told me, already being able to see some of them but he wanted to see all of them.
I stepped back and showed him the cuts on my hands, arms, and legs from catching myself when I fell onto the ground.
"The one fucking time I'm not your damn ride to the party, this shit happens." Rafe angrily murmurs to himself, looking down, taking deep breaths as he paced around.
I watched him, standing to the side now. He huffed to himself and I could see that his mind was racing. Rafe then grabbed the cup with the liquor and threw it against the wall, causing it to shatter everywhere.
"I'm going to kill that motherfucker." Rafe angrily told me as he came over to me. "What'd he look like, huh? Tell me." He said.
"Rafe.." I softly said, scared of what my boyfriend would do.
Rafe gave me a look, "Don't, Y/n." He said. "Tell me what the fuck he looked like." He then told me.
"I- he had wavy brown hair and uh, he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and these sunglasses." I said, trying to give the best description possible.
"Alright, alright. Yeah, okay." Rafe softly said, more to himself as he paced around again. He then down at me, stopping in front of me. "Don't go anywhere. I'm going to deal with this asshole." He then said in a low voice and I knew when he said that, he meant more than him just beating the guy up.
"Rafe.." I softly said again.
"Shut up, Y/n!" Rafe yelled, causing me to flinch. "He thinks he can touch you like that. No fucking way. Stay here, I'll be back." My boyfriend then harshly told me. "I love you." He then said, leaning down and giving me a quick and harsh kiss before walking past me, grabbing his keys off the counter aggressively as he stormed out of the house.
I cleaned up the broken cup Rafe had thrown while just crying to myself about everything. When I finished, I went upstairs, showered, wincing at the feeling of the soap on some of my cuts, before getting into a nightgown and getting into bed.
I lie there for about an hour, completely lost in thought and worry, before the bedroom door opened. I sat up and saw Rafe coming inside, the room was dark so I couldn't really see anything but his figure. I turned the lamp on my nightstand on, looking at Rafe as he let out a sigh, taking his shirt off. I saw some bruises on his body as well, probably from the guy who'd pushed me.
I watched as he got in his pajamas before getting bed with me. I got closer to him in bed and turned the light off. He turned to face me, putting his arm over my torso.
"I took care of him, you won't have to worry about him anymore." Rafe lowly said.
I didn't know what to say. So, he really killed the guy. I suddenly felt really tense, my heart racing at the thought.
"I love you." My boyfriend told me.
"I love you too." I said back and I meant that, even if it was wrong, especially after what he'd done. He'd done what he did for me. To protect me. So, yes, I loved him. I always would.

the beginning - rafe cameron
summary: you didn't expect to finally meet rafe after going to your best friend, sarah's house after school || warnings: alcohol, mentions of a toxic relationship at the end || genre: best friend's brother, fluff?, mention of angst at the end || word count: approximately 780
I walked onto Tannyhill, I was shocked at how big it was. I shouldn't have been though, the Cameron's were probably the richest people on Figure 8, so it's no shock their house was this bag and this nice.
My best friend, Sarah, and I were hanging out again after school, just as we always did. Thing was, usually we'd either go out or hang out at my place but my mom was going to be home early today and she was already in a bad mood lately, so Sarah said we could just go to her place for a change.
We walked inside and she led me up to her bedroom. I put my backpack in there before she led me downstairs to the kitchen to get a snack.
I sat at the kitchen island, scrolling on my phone as Sarah got some chips and put it out in front of us before sitting down next to me. I took a chip and ate it as I put my phone down.
"Sorry that we couldn't just go to my place. My mom has been so annoying lately." I complained.
"Ugh, I get that. But, either way, it's fine. No one's home." Sarah told me and I just nodded, eating another chip.
"Where is everyone?" I asked, I expected her dad to be out working, since he often was, Wheezie was likely still at school, and I didn't expect Rafe to be here either since he was never home when we were, but usually at least Rose was around.
"Dad's at work, Wheezie's at school, Rose is at the country club, and Rafe... I don't know where he is and I'd rather not know." Sarah told me, giggling a little, making me giggle as well.
We continued eating our chips and just talking about the most random stuff, as best friends do, but I couldn't stop thinking about Rafe Cameron. I'd seen him in family photos and maybe from the distance, and of course, I'd heard a lot about him, but I'd never formally met him before. From what Sarah had told me, along with other people as well, he was cool- according to other people, not including Sarah- but he was also kind of an asshole.
One of the French doors that led into the kitchen was suddenly opened and Sarah and I both looked over to see Rafe. Looking past him, I could see Kelce and Topper on the patio, sitting down on the outdoor couch and getting comfortable as Rafe came inside.
Rafe didn't pay much mind to me at first, seemingly not even noticing me and definitely not even acknowledging Sarah as he went straight to the fridge, opening it up and looking through it.
Sarah let out an annoyed groan at the sight of her older brother before she looked over at me, rolling her eyes at him being here. "What are you doing here?" She asked.
Rafe took some beers out of the fridge before closing it. He looked over at her, glancing at me for a moment, before looking back at Sarah. "This is my house too." He told his sister before looking at me again. "Who's this?" He then asked her.
"This is Y/n. Leave her alone." Sarah told him harshly.
"Calm down, Sarah." Rafe groaned. "I don't even know how anyone's friends with you." He then told her.
Sarah scoffed, "You're one to talk!" She defensively said back.
Rafe just looked at me once more before walking off, going outside to his friends and pretty much slamming the door shut behind him.
"Well, that's Rafe." Sarah said once he was outside again.
I looked outside the windows of the French door, seeing Rafe manspreading on the couch with his friends. "He seems..." I trail off, not really knowing what to say.
"Like a dick? I know." Sarah finished my sentence.
I glance at her for a moment, the both of smiling a little at what she said before glancing back outside again, this time, seeing Rafe looking at me. I quickly looked away, looking back at my best friend as she grabbed the bag of chips.
"Let's go up to my room. I don't want to be down here near him." Sarah told me and I just nodded, going along with her as I walked off with her, not knowing that Rafe was watching me leave.
Little did I know, that little interaction between Rafe and I would be the start of something much bigger. A relationship. A relationship that'd change my friendship with Sarah, a relationship that'd change me. A relationship that'd be so toxic and unhealthy, but a relationship that I'd never want to leave.

love story - ben plunkett
summary: the love story of you and your dorky best friend, ben plunkett || warnings: none || genre: fluff || word count: approximately 450
first thing i thought of is his little blue ford fiesta lol
you were always in that thing with him
cause he was always driving you places
but he didn't mind
he liked doing that
besides, whenever you were in the car with him
it almost always ended with karaoke sessions
the two of you singing your heart out embarrassingly loudly to the most random songs
people in the other cars on the street would give you guys looks
but neither of you cared
you were too busy having fun
enjoying each others company
then, he'd take you on "friend dates"
you called it "friend dates" but he never did
he actually got obviously flustered whenever you called it that
and after you realized you'd developed feelings for him
you could never look at the name or the thing itself the same
okay, back to the “friend dates”
he and you would watch a movie every friday and then eat at a diner in town
it was your little tradition
whenever you’d go to the diner, you guys would attempt to try everything on the menu
and eventually you guys would
but it'd definitely take some time
neither of you were very popular
and when people did see you guys, you were always together
so... everyone thought you guys were dating
neither of you even realized that before some popular kid came up to you guys and was all like "no nuts plunkett has a girlfriend?"
it was so awkward between you twofor the rest of the day tbh
but when he picked you up to bring you to school the next morning.. it was just like normal
when prom came around, you weren't exactly planning on going
but when you could tell that ben lowkey wanted to go
you asked him to go with you
as friends, of course
he smiled and said "yes"
and when prom finally came, you were both embarrassingly dressed very '80s for the prom theme that literally no one even followed
he started dancing with you since he could see you looking at all of the couples, wishing you could dance with someone
and when he was dancing with you, he leaned down and kissed you
and you kissed back
after a few seconds, you both pulled away
you were in shock about what just happened
he was blushing
"i- i'm- i shouldn't have-" he started
"ben!" you said, making him stop
"ben, i like you" you told him
he dorkily smiled at you
"i like you too" he said back before softly kissing you again
and that is the love story of you and your dorky best friend, ben plunkett

chapter seven: don't need to be told
-- a ghostly love masterlist
I looked into Wally’s eyes, completely flustered. I wanted to look into his eyes but at the same time, I felt the urge to look away due to embarrassment. “I’m.. um, going to go to Charley.” I tell Wally. He raises his eyebrows a little but not really in a shocked way, more of a “I know what I do to you” way.
“Yeah, alright.” He says and nods, looking over at Charley.
I hesitated before walking off to Charley who was still stabbing the football equipment with a stick.
“Charley!” I yell, trying to get his attention over his screaming. “Charley!” I say again.
The boy looks over at me, catching his breath. “Oh, hey, Lucia.” He greets me.
“Hey.” I smile.
“What’s up?” Charley asks.
“Nothing.. I just.. you said that I can talk to you if I needed to, right?” I asked.
“Yeah, of course.” Charley tells me.
“Well, it’s more of a question actually.” I say and he nods, signaling for me to go on. “Did Wally have a girlfriend before he died?” I ask, guessing that he did.
“Yeah, he did. He talked about her a lot when he first died but after a while, he’d only mention her every once in a while. Honestly, I think he only did that to annoy us.” Charley answered. “But, ever since you got here, he hasn’t mentioned her once.” He tells me.
“Oh, um, okay.” I awkwardly say.
“Why? You have a crush?” Charley asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Don’t even. I don’t have a crush on Wally, or anyone for that matter.” I lied.
Charley looks at me with a “yeah, right” look. “Whatever you say, Lucia.” He tells me.
I look over at the football equipment, “Have fun, Charley.” I say, patting his arm gently before walking off.
<3
I walked down the crowded hallway of my school. As I walked, I looked around at the people that I knew and didn’t know so well. As I was walking, I spotted my best friend, Chloe. She was standing with two other cheerleaders on the team. The two girls were talking while Chloe just listened, nodding along, and making sounds like “Mm-hm” as a way to somewhat contribute to the conversation.
It looked like she wasn’t taking my death too well. Maybe this is wrong, but I’m kind of glad. Well, not that she’s feeling this way, definitely not. I’m just glad that I can see that someone actually cares, even if that’s a little self-involved.
The bell rang, meaning it was time for the next class. “Let’s go to lunch.” One of the girls said.
Chloe and the other girl followed after this girl, all heading to lunch. I watched as they walked away, just standing there. I then looked down at my cheer uniform and adjusted it a little with a sigh. I looked ahead, and continued walking down the hall.

“I’m afraid reciting all of Ginsberg might have us howl-ing at the end.” Mr. Martin says as he stood in front of a chalkboard and we all sat in a circle. Charley gave him a sorry smile as no one was really laughing or even smiling at the joke. Mr. Martin awkwardly cleared his throat, “Lucia, do you have anything that you want to do over the weekend?” He asked me.
“I need to figure out if I’m a bad person or not.” I answered.
“Um.. I don’t really know if that’s fun but I’ll put that on the board.” Mr. Martin says, turning towards the board. “Hmmm, I’ll put “self-reflect” on the board.” He said as he wrote it down.
“Why do you think you’re a bad person?” Wally asked me.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if she was one.” Rhonda commented.
I do my best to ignore Rhonda’s comment as I look at Wally. I think for a moment, wanting to know how to phrase this properly. I then looked down at my lap, “I think that I’m a bad person because I felt kind of good after seeing my best friend obviously sad about my death.” I say.
“Yeah, definitely a bad person.” Rhonda said, nodding her head.
“Wait, Rhonda. Let her explain.” Mr. Martin told her before looking at me.
“It’s not that I felt good in a “I’m so happy that she’s sad right now” way, but more that I felt good in a sense that seeing her like that made me feel cared about.” I tell Mr. Martin.
“Hm, well that makes sense. You needed reassurance. That’s normal.” Mr. Martin tells me.
“I guess so.” Is all I say as I look at the board behind him. “Movie night?” I say and Mr. Martin nods.
“We figured it’d be a good way to break up the monotony.” Mr. Martin explains.
“If I may,” Charley spoke and I looked over at him. “to be fair, watching the same fives sports movies over and over again is kind of monotonous, Mr. Martin.” He says while looking at Wally.
“I thought you loved Rudy.” Wally says.
“No.” Charley responded.
“Wow.” Wally exclaims. “Just w- I can’t even.” Wally says
“Wait, what’s Rudy?” I ask Wally who gasps.
“If you want to be with me, you have to watch Rudy.” Wally says.
“Who said I wanted to be with you?” I asked, teasing him. “No one had to say anything, I could tell.” Wally responded, crossing his arms over his chest as he leaned back and spread his legs.
<3
I was sitting down on a couch in the library, Rhonda on the floor near me, a book in a hand as she drank from someone’s cup. Not that it mattered anymore nor did it affect this person. Wally and Charley were looking for movies.
“Okay, Bull Durham.” Wally suggested to Charley who’s on the other side of the bookshelf.
“Eh, too much baseball.” Charley told him.
“Okay,” Wally looks through the movies on the shelf, “The Natural.” He suggested.
“Way too much baseball.” Charley says.
“Boom, we got it.” Wally gets another one. “Rad Racing.” He held up the movie.
“Oh, is that the one where they do the BMX bike ballet at the school dance?” Charley asked Wally.
Wally nods, “Yeah, it is. And it’s freakin’ amazing.” Wally told him.
“Oh, no. It’s absolutely not though.” Charley retorted.
<3
We all gathered in the kitchen to get some food and some food for the movie night we were having. I grabbed a salad before walking over to Wally who was grabbing a bunch of food and putting it on the cart. I look at all the things he had on the cart.
He glanced over at me as he opened a container-shelf-thingy and took a cookie out of it. “Want a cookie?” He asked me.
“Sure.” I say and he hands me one.
I take a bite and immediately scrunch my nose at the taste. I swallow it down. “It’s bad?” Wally asked and I nodded. He holds his hand out to take it and so I give it to him. He then takes a bite and makes a face as well. We continued to walk when a janitor walked by with an open container. Wally put his arm out in front of me and dropped the cookie in the tray, making me smile.
We walked over to Rhonda and Charley and I looked over to see Chloe walking through the cafeteria with the other girls, seemingly having just had practiced. “Um… one sec.” I say before walking over to them, following after them and leaving the others behind. Yes, that sounded creepy, but it was only so that I could see how she was doing.
<3
Chloe said goodbye to the girls before she walked over to the bus stop bench and sat down. I’d completely forgotten that this would be what she’d have to do after practice now. Before, I used to just drive her home since she didn’t have her license. Now, since I wasn’t here, she had to take the bus. Or, actually, she could have ridden with someone else on the team but I get it, they could be a lot sometimes.
I sat down next to her as she leaned back, I could see her holding back tears. I watched as they slid down her cheek and I watched as she started sobbing. I felt awkward. I always did in situations like this. I was never good at comforting people when they were upset in life, nor was I in death. Not that I could comfort her anyways. I was just, never really taught that skill.
I glanced over after seeing something in the corner of my eye and I was met with Rhonda, Charley, and Wally standing on the other side of the glass bus stop-thing. I looked over at them before I got up from the bench, walking over to them. “Who’s that?” Charley asked.
“My best friend, Chloe.” I answered.
“Oh.” Is all he said. “Hasn’t been taking it well, has she?” Charley asked.
“I mean, would you if your best friend died?” Rhonda asked him.
“True.” Charley said.
“Let’s just… go inside.” I say, shrugging, refusing to look over at Chloe again.
Charley just nods before leading the way, Rhonda goes with him and Wally stays behind with me.
“Are you good?” Wally asked me.
“I’m- I’m fine.” I simply answered.
“You sure?” Wally asked.
“Yep.” I told him. “I mean, it’s just.. I feel bad.” I shrugged.
“It’s not your fault, you know? You dying. It was just a.. freak accident. Just like how I died.” Wally told me.
I think about what he said for a moment, “You said you died at the homecoming game, right?” I asked him.
“Yeah.” Wally told me. I just nodded, not really knowing what to say. Once again, I’m not the best when it comes to comforting people.
“Let’s just go inside.” I told him.
“Sure.” He said, understanding.

chapter five: harsh words
-- a ghostly love masterlist
Although, there was really no benefit to me showering anymore, I’d always found it quite relaxing. The hot water combined with the silence was always nice to me. Whenever I was in the shower, my mind went blank and I didn’t really think about anything. I liked that.
The only thing that used to creep me out about showers was the possibility of someone killing me while I was in the shower. That whole fear originated after I watched Psycho and had always been in the back of my mind since. Well, I guess not anymore since it’s not like I can be killed again.
After I finished, I stepped out and dried my body first before drying my hair a bit and brushing it, my hair still being wet but not dripping wet like before. I then got into my uniform again, combed my fingers through my hair, and went to the mirror.
I knew that I could really just wear the clothes that I’d worn to school the day that I died and that were currently stuffed in my backpack in my locker, and I did think about that. But, truth is, the clothes I was wearing during the school day were so boring and I guess I figured that I’m dead, why does it even matter? In life but especially in death.
I was still standing in front of the mirror when the door suddenly opened. It wasn’t by a ghost though, it was by someone living. It was not only after school hours but it was also too late for people from clubs to be here so I wondered why anyone was here.
My mother stepped into the locker room though and I let out a sigh. I heard the principal say something outside of the locker room before shutting the door. My mother glanced around for a moment before going over to the lockers. I watched as she went to my locker and opened it, standing in front of it for a few moments and she looked at my backpack that hung solitarily in the otherwise empty locker.
My mother took my backpack off of the hook. She didn’t look inside of it or anything, she just took it and headed out. I followed after her and watched as she thanked the principal before heading in the direction of the main entrance.
I followed her as she went through the doors of the main entrance and walked over to one of the benches on the sidewalk. She sat down and I sat down next to her, watching her put my backpack on her lap and zip it open.
She looked at my things for a moment before taking out my binder and looking through it. It was all really just schoolwork. She put the binder to the other side of her, on the bench, before looking at my notebooks. I thought she’d finished before she looked at the bag and saw a piece of paper, folded up at the bottom. She took it out and unfolded it. Oh, I knew what that was.
It was a piece of paper that me and Chloe had passed to one another in class a month or so prior to my death. On the paper, I was complaining about my mom.
“I don’t get her at all sometimes. I swear that the only reason she put me in cheer was so that she could relive her childhood. I never wanted this. She knew that. It’s so fucking annoying.” I read aloud in my head. “Sometimes, when I’m really mad at her, I wish that my dad was the one to stay and that she wasn’t.” I then read. “But then I remember how he was, how things were, and realize that it’d be much worse than it is right now.” I finished.
My mom stared at that paper for a while before putting it in her pocket. She stuffed the other stuff in my bag before getting up from the seat and walking off to her car. I remained seated as I just watched her. I felt kind of bad, honestly. I know that she’d been a kind of bad mom when it came to certain things but she was still my mom and I knew that she was not expecting to find that in my backpack. I would’ve thrown that out but the bell rang and I had to hurry and get to the next class so I just shoved it in my bag unconsciously and completely forgot about it.. until now.
<3
I stayed seated on the bench for a while after that with my face in the palms of my hands and salty tears escaping my eyes. I was alone there for a while. Suddenly, I heard the sound of footsteps on the cement sidewalk. I looked up and saw Charley walking over to me. He walked over to me with a comforting smile and sat next to me, putting his arm around my back and giving me a comforting side hug.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
“Yeah, it’s just- I saw my mom again and she saw something in my bag that I wish she didn’t.” I say.
“What was it? Drugs?” He asked.
“Um, no.” I blankly say. “It was just.. a mean note I’d exchanged with my friend about my mom.” I tell Charley.
“I thought you didn’t like your mom.” Charley says.
“I don’t.” I responded. “But, she’s still my mom.” I add.
Charley sighs, “I get that.”
“Yeah..” I breathily say.
“Well, I’m here for you.” Charley tells me. “Thank you.” I say back.
“You’re welcome.” He says with a small smile.

chapter eleven: a virgin no more
-- a ghostly love masterlist
After that night, we were all over one another. To the point that the others were starting to get annoyed. Wally and I didn’t care, too enamored with one another to care. Every second that we were alone, we were going on adventures around the school, doing stupid shit, and just physically all over one another as well. Really, it was just us having fun.
Right now, we were in the field together, sitting on the ground. Classes were happening inside and honestly, neither of us had any clue on the whereabouts of the other spirits but we didn’t really care about that.
Currently, we were talking about cheerleading. “Yeah, when I was in middle school, I twisted my ankle real bad while doing handsprings.” I told Wally. “Then, the next day, it was like, all swollen and shit. It was gross.” I said.
“Oh my god.” He said. “Yeah, I once broke my arm in freshman year at a game. It was bad. It was, like, bent all weird and my hand was limp. I looked like a zombie or something.” Wally shared.
“Ew.” I said, making a face as I smiled.
He smiled, “It was kind of dope.” Wally said.
I gave him a look, “You’re weird.”
“I know.” He said with a dorky smile.
I sighed as I thought for a moment, the both of us silent. “I wish I was able to do more, when I was still alive.” I said.
“I get that.” Wally agreed. “Like lose your virginity?” Wally then suddenly blurted out.
I gasped as I looked over at him, “You heard that?” I asked, referring to me telling Rhonda that the other day while getting ready for homecoming.
“Yeah.” He admitted with no problem.
“Well… yeah. I’m still a virgin.” I said with a small shrug. “I always thought that I was missing out or something when I was alive because all of my friends had lost their virginity.” I told him.
“So, why didn’t you?” Wally asked, curiously.
“I never was given the opportunity. Well, I was but I wasn’t. Guys are all talk. They had a bunch of shit to say all the time but never followed through.” I said. “Besides, I’d never do anything with guys like that.” I added, shrugging.
Wally nodded, “Would you do it with a guy like me?” He asked with a small smirk.
I blushed, “Um… not with a guy like you.” I said and I saw his face drop a little. “I would with only you.” I then said and I saw his face light up again.
“Oh, really?” He asked flirtatiously.
“Yeah.” I smiled.
“Right now?” Wally then asked.
“Not right here.” I told him.
He got up so fast, “Come on. I know where we could go.” He told me before taking my hand in his and starting to run to where he wanted to take me, making me laugh as I let him pull me along with him.
<3
Later in the day, I was sat in the library with Rhonda. Honestly, I had started to grow into her, accepting how she was, even if I didn’t always like it.
“Where were you and Wally all day?” She asked, a lollipop in her hand.
“Oh, we were on the field.” I said.
“Really? Charley went out there a little while ago and said you guys weren’t there.” Rhonda said.
I blushed a little, “Oh, well we were walking around the school for a little while as well.” I lied.
“Oh, really?” She said, not believing me one bit.
“Yeah.” I shrugged, looking down.
“Lucia..” She said and then gasped, “Oh my god did the virgin finally become a non-virgin?” She asked, rather loudly.
I don’t answer as I start fiddling with my fingers.
“Oh my fucking god.” She said, letting out a huff. “Wait, it was Wally, right?” Rhonda asked, looking for clarification.
“Yeah?” I responded, unsure on why that was even a question.
“I don’t know. You never know. It could’ve been, like, Mr Martin or something.” Rhonda said.
“Ew!” I gasped. “No, what the fuck?” I let out a surprised laugh.
Rhonda just starts to laugh as well. She wasn’t too bad, actually.
I was really starting to get used to this whole “life of the undead” as Wally called it. It was definitely much better than the “life of the living”. Or at least my life.
THE END

chapter ten: a night of change
-- a ghostly love masterlist
Rhonda and I were in the room that they kept all of the theater stuff in. We were only here to pick out something for homecoming. It was silent for a moment before a thought came to my mind. I don’t know why, but one of my intrusive thoughts won, and I just said it.
“Can ghosts have sex?” I asked her. I looked over at her and she gave me a look.
“Yeah, we can. We’ve been going through puberty for decades. We have needs.” She told me. “We have a past. We all do.” Rhonda said. I cleared my throat awkwardly, “Wait, did you die a virgin, Lucia?” She then asked me.
“Yeah..” I said.
“Wow, I’m shocked, honestly.” Rhonda tells me.
“You know, you shouldn’t just assume things about people.” I said, looking over at her.
“Uh, hello.” We heard and I looked back and saw Wally who seemed to have just walked down the stairs. “I just wanted to come and check on you guys.” He told us. “How’s it going?” Wally asked.
“It’s going well.” I said.
“You still want to go with me, right?” Wally asked me.
“Yeah, yeah. Of course.” I said and Wally just nodded with a smile before going upstairs.
I looked over at Rhonda for a moment before going back to browsing through the clothes, “Wait, you’re going to the prom with Wally?” She asked with a scoff.
“Yeah.” I simply responded, not looking at her.
“Wow.” Is all she said as she continued looking as well, smiling to herself.
<3
I slowly walked outside of the school to where Wally had asked me to meet. I was nervous, so fucking nervous. I never went to homecoming with anyone besides my friends before so this was definitely new to me. My hands were shaking from how nervous I was. When I walked outside, I saw a familiar golf cart driving over to me.
Wally stepped out of the golf cart and he took a box with him before walking over to me. “Your ride has arrived, m’lady.” Wally flirtatiously said.
“M’lady?” I repeated shyly with a giggle.
Wally smiled, “You look amazing.” He told me.
I smiled back, “Thank you.” I then looked at his outfit, “You do too.” I told him.
“Thank you.” Wally said back. He then cleared his throat, “I have a gift for you.”
“Really?” I asked, shocked. Should I have gotten him something as well?
He opened the box for me to see the corsage he obviously made himself. It was cute. I picked it up and got a closer look.
“57?” I asked about the number he had on the corsage. “Your football number, right?” I asked.
“Yeah, uh, shit.” Wally awkwardly said. “You hate this, don’t you?” He asked as he looked down.
“No, I love it.” I told him. “Thank you so much. Really.” I said.
He looked up and smiled at me, “It’s something we used to do back in the ‘80s.” He explained.
“I like it.” I responded.
“It was hard to find flowers so I had to, uh, use papers, as you can see.” Wally told me. “So, uh, stay away from an open flame.” He said, jokingly.
“Okay.” I smiled. “Cool. Now, come on.” He grabbed my hand and took me to the golf cart, letting me into the passenger side before he got on the drivers side and started driving us to the school gym where the dance was being held.
<3
The whole gymnasium was decorated to the max with balloons, signs, LED lights, and just anything you could think of everywhere along with food and drinks, a DJ. It was really nice. I had separated from Wally for a moment, looking to see if Chloe had come. I looked around for a bit but didn’t see her so I just gave up, going over to Wally.
“Punch?” He offered as he held out a cup for me.
I nodded, smiling as I took it, “Thank you.” I told him. He and I clinked our plastic cups together before taking a sip.
The song then changed and Wally put his drink down on the table, taking mine from me and doing the same to it. “Wally, what-” I started, confused.
“Come on, let’s go dance.” He interrupted as he took my hand and let me away from the drinks.
He twirled me around before putting his hands on my hips, “I don’t really know how to do this.” I said as he started slow-dancing with me.
“It’s easy. Just follow my lead.” He said and I watched what he did with his feet, doing my best to copy him as my hands rested on his shoulders.
“I’m doing it.” I said with a smile after I finally got the hang of it.
“You are.” He said back with a smile. “Told you it was easy.” He then said.
I smiled up at him, “You're the first person to ever ask me to homecoming.” I told him.
“I better be your last.” He said with a small smirk.
I playfully rolled my eyes, “Wally, I don’t think that’ll be a problem.” I said, considering we were ghosts and none of the other ghosts here at the moment, wanted me like that.
Wally smiled, “Lucia.” He said and I looked up at him, waiting for him to speak.
The music changed to a more upbeat song and Wally looked up, “Oh, shit.” He said excitedly. “Come on, let’s dance.” He said as he grabbed my hands and started moving them, shaking them and doing all types of stuff. Next thing I knew, he was moonwalking. It was funny. I did wonder what he was going to say before, but I figured I’d worry about that later.
<3
A little later, I stood off to the side with Charley as Wally continued to dance, now to some ‘80s song. How did he have the energy for all that?
“I’ll admit. That guy is pretty fly.” Charley said as we both watched Wally.
I just laughed as I watched Wally doing the most random dances. Charley started dancing as well and I just looked at him, wow. I was glad they were having fun and well, I was too.
“You should go dance with him.” I told Charley.
“I don’t know about that..” Charley said.
“Go!” I smiled as I pushed him away and towards Wally. Charley went over to Wally and Wally started yelling excitedly.
“Woooo! Let’s go, Charley!” He said as Charley started dancing.
Wally then glanced over at me with a wide smile and I smiled back as I just watched.
<3
After the dance, or more like after Wally and I were done with the dance, we went outside and lay next to one another on the grass, staring up at the sky as music faintly blared from inside.
“I think tonight was the most fun I’ve had in my entire life.” I said before realizing, “Well not my life, but just.. my entire existence.” I told him.
Wally chuckled, “Same.” There were then a few moments of silence, “I was serious when I said that I don’t think that I’ve ever met anyone like you before.” He told me.
“Well, I was serious as well when I said I haven't either.” I responded.
“I know.” Wally said back, softly smiling to himself.
Suddenly, he stood up and I looked up at him. He held his hands out for me to take and so I did. He helped me up off of the ground and once I was standing, I fixed my dress a little.
“I had something to ask you about at the dance.” Wally told me. “But, I figured it would be better that I waited.” He said.
“Oh, well you can ask me.” I told him.
“Lucia…you’re the most beautiful girl that I’ve ever met.” He said. “I like you a lot, you know that, right?” Wally then asked and I nodded. “Lucia, can I kiss you?” He then finally asked.
“Yes, please.” I softly answered.
He then leaned down and softly kissed me. I put my arms around his neck, pulling him closer as he put his hands on the back of my neck. The kiss got a bit deeper, his nose pushed against mine as we kissed. We kissed for a while before pulling away, catching our breaths.
“I like you so much, Wally.” I finally admitted.
“I know, I know.” He softly told me as he brushed through my hair with his fingers. “I do too.” He said.
Who would’ve thought that all of this would’ve happened on one singular night?
