In reaction to the United States Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, Mathilde Panot, French MP and President of the La France insoumise parliamentary group submitted a bill to the French National Assembly.

It aimed to codify the right to a safe abortion for women in the French Constitution. It passed on a 337–32 vote on 24 November 2023, starting the process of enshrining the right to abortion in the French Constitution.

In January 2024, the National Assembly voted in favor of the constitutional amendment 433-30. For the amendment to be officially added to the constitution, it then passed through the Senate in February 267-50. 

On 4 March 2024, Parliament amended Article 34 in a 780 to 72 vote. This amendment made France, as of passage, the only nation to guarantee the right to an abortion.

The amendment describes abortion as a "guaranteed freedom".

Consistency vs. Potential In Fighting Game Tier Lists

I have the weirdest fighting game brain itch right now and I haven't seen my crew in a minute (plus Twitter is a no-go) so I gotta put this somewhere before I forget it.

The tier list discourse between the top 2 characters in Street Fighter 6 right now (Luke and Ken) is making me notice a pattern in how different regions of people rank what they value in what makes characters 'good'.

For a little elaboration: Luke is more difficult to fully optimize as a character because of how specific his timing needs to be. Ken, however, has a by comparison much more accessible playstyle with less total investment needed to maximize his potential. He trades off with Luke, though, by not having as high damage or as strong supers. Those that say Luke is Top 1 seem like they value what the character is capable of at maximum level even if they are harder, whereas those that rank Ken seem to lean more into reliable execution. That narrows down kinda how the two sides land: Consistency vs. Potential. My good friend and a Potemkin main I spar with in Guilty Gear always talks about how it's fun to do the big combos with the huge damage that look flashy and all that. Of course it is, that's part of what makes fighting games so fun. But he goes on to say when you speak at a competitive level, it is about how consistently you can climb. So when you are trying to improve you have to focus on doing what you can do consistently over what is considered optimal. Because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the combo you went for was more optimal but by being more difficult you dropped it which could (and for me has) cost damage that can lose you the game by a sliver.

Short of the highest level, there's plenty of times people miss the timing on Luke's Perfect Knuckle so they have to do the backup combo that is less damage but prevents a drop.

Ken, however, you begin to see consistently doing strings and Jinrai loops as low as Gold. That means you're gonna see a LOT more and resentment can start to bias the pool.

Just some thoughts I have as a Plat 2 (Cammy/Manon) that's got a brain buzz for this game. Even despite all that, the balance being tight enough that it can get this contentious isn't something I think is a fully bad thing.

I LOVE!!!!

I love their powers and their designs. Not like irene lebeau in Captain Marvel: The End (2020) I mean, they made her physically a copy of Rogue 😒 I don't like that at all about the kids having their parents' looks and personalities.

Is it too much to ask for a little originality?!

I'm sorry but I have to gush over the new PSO2NGS Dark Falz Aegis fight. Specifically its music but I do have to give credit to the fight itself as well. Full thoughts under the cut. Warning: Very Long

It's super fun throughout the whole thing. The fight opens with the standard enemy gauntlet as you approach the boss itself, which is massive and wholly visible in the distance. As you finally close in, phase 1 begins. The music is a remix of the Dark Falz theme from your first battle with it in NGS. Aegis blends in with the darkened skies in a way that sells how powerful and insurmountable it is. You scramble around to kill more adds and dodge incoming lasers as you summon your own firepower, a portable cannon. The retaliation begins as you fire barrage after barrage at Aegis' barrier of guns.

It's fun as hell, but after enough damage is done, the Central Cannon fires a huge blast, weakening Aegis and beginning phase 2.

And holy shit-

The song opens with vocalist Anya Floris reprising the opening melody to Song of Mourning as the boss reveals its true form. Its attacks are easily called but devastating, prompting you to quickly learn its patterns for efficiency and to prevent a low rank. This somehow creates a battle that feels rewarding to master as you dodge perfectly while also maximizing damage done, which will be important as there are multiple DPS checks throughout the fight.

Anyways, the music.

I haven't found an official title for the song yet but I will add it here via edit when it is released. After the opening, the song Our Life, Our Scars properly begins with some anxious, doubtful lyrics.

Given the themes and context, it's not hard to see who this song is about;

It's Aina, your companion.

Despite what you may or may not think about NGS' story as a whole, Aina has been through a LOT of shit, with her father Garoa and hometown getting nuked by the very thing you are fighting and her being thrust into battle alongside you to try and carry Garoa's legacy despite her lack of experience. You've seen her grow and learn where her skills lie and how she can help and not feel like a burden to her team.

The intensity dies down a bit to allow you to focus on a chance for some big damage. Platforms raise up and you find debris to launch back at Aegis to chip off some more HP.

And then another voice joins the song.

What's your story? Where's your heartache? Hold out your hands to me In the dark times when you feel alone, let's find what we're here for What's the reason? Who's the target? Where is our tomorrow? (What's the reason? Who's the target? Where is our tomorrow?) I will find the answers (You can find the will to fight to follow the sun) The battle is ours, our life, our scars! (The battle is ours, our life, our scars!)

There's a bit of speculation over what character this voice (EN: Aimee Blackschleger) is meant to represent but there's two main theories. It could be the Player Character, although personally, I'm pretty sure they are represented through a male vocalist (ex. PSO2's Dark to Light).

The other, more straightforward answer is that it's Manon, your other companion.

While Manon's story is still very much open, leaving a lot of her past and motives unknown, she certainly fits the bill to be supporting Aina's vocals here. She's very serious and "no-nonsense" when it comes to her job as an ARKS Defender, but she is still somewhat empathetic towards others. You finally see some of her emotional cracks show during the Stia campaign as being unable to save some of the fellow ARKS soldiers weighs on her mind heavily.

The song is more optimistic, but there's still an air of anxiety to it. Lots of questions, but they're slowly replaced by certainty and confidence. Nearing the end of this long encounter, you hear your allies sing with hope as you near the final DPS check.

I am here on a mission. "Purpose," I have gained it from you (There's a mission. There's a purpose. I'm at your side) Taken out of my darkest hour, and leading the way (In the dark times, when you feel afraid, the way will become clearer) There's an answer. Life is with us. There is our beginning (There's an answer. Life is with us. There is our beginning) We have seen the sun (We can find the will to fight to follow the sun) The battle is ours, our life, our scars! (The battle is ours, our life, our scars!)

The final DPS check begins as you have to stop Aegis from absorbing enough energy to wipe you out. Dashing from meteor to meteor, you smash each rock as the music swells to begin finally playing the main theme, A World Beyond The Sky. This is notable because this is the first time this has happened in PSO2NGS, despite it being a staple for Urgent Quest bosses in PSO2 with its main theme.

As Aegis' final attack of desperation backfires, it lies limp, fully allowing you to finish the job. And I'm just gonna let you watch the finale cutscene because... wow.

There is so much to go over here.

All the comrades you met through the regional campaigns giving you the power of a goddamn Spirit Bomb

GAROA???? pushing you to advance

Your character becoming a fucking METEOR as you focus all that Friendship Energy into a single punch that blows CLEAN THROUGH AEGIS

And then finally dropping you off in a field of flowers, a tradition I hope they keep going with future Final Bosses.

It gives you somewhere calm and beautiful to reflect on everything that happened (while also sorting through your presumably low-tier loot).

This fight proved to me that PSO2NGS is still worth playing despite the lackluster launch and basic story and I hope this at least convinces a couple people to give the game a proper shot.

So I have this little idea in my head of what Marvel should do with Zach/Amp - after Bobby and Akihiro respectively make their apologies to him and bring him to Krakoa, Zach should join a little posse of teens and kids (Brian, who's still Julian's right hand man despite their new age gap, Curse, Maxime & Manon, and Brutha Nature) who follow Julian around and think hes the best guy ever. They're his mini Hellions.

Zach looks up to Julian a lot, and develops a tiny crush on him. Brian notices this and says, "I know, right?" and the two hit it off and start comparing experiences, and quickly become best friends, and eventual boyfriends.

Zach also happens to bump into Quentin, who he remembers from his brief stint at the Xavier school. He also thinks Quentin is really cool, and starts hanging out with him, looking up to him as well, becoming Quentin's little henchman (which strokes Quentin's ego of course that this hyper teen wants to hang out with him and thinks hes the Greatest.) Julian notices this and tries to pull Zach away, telling half truths about Quentin to get him to think badly of him. This starts a rivalry between Julian and Quentin, their respective egos and bitchy attitudes clashing over this kid who can't decide which of them is cooler.

Also Akihiro and Bobby end up becoming his dads. Together because of course I had to put them into this. Adoption and everything and Zach gets the supportive family he always deserved.

OH I was thinking about how I really haven’t given Claudine (Miss Sinister) much characterization in my Alt-Marauders world and one of my goals was to do that Like ok she’s into science but...what else? tagging @sammysdewysensitiveeyes in case you wanna use any of this for your Alt Marauders fics, I pretty much consider it our shared universe now. I may have created it and laid the groundwork but you contribute SO MUCH! Well, people who pursue careers in science are typically knowledge-seekers, truth-seekers, question-askers. They’re the kids who ask ‘why?’ and are never satisfied with ‘just because’. They’re the people who if they don’t know something, will look it up ASAP and won’t rest til they get an answer, and an answer that they UNDERSTAND at that. Claudine is probably that kid who asked why the sky is blue, didn’t get a satisfactory answer from her teacher and parents, and then went to the Internet, and got an answer, and then fell down a whole rabbithole of reading atomospheric terminology so she “got” it completely. Highly relatable, tbh. Extending that beyond research, she’s a digger. She’s curious. She’s nosey. She’s always poking around. She loves learning, but boy does she lack boundaries. She’s also perceptive as hell, and this lets her be very manipulative---we see this in her first story with Daken/Akhiro and then with Gambit and Laura. She can craft a good tale to hit all the right notes a person needs. In her own way, she’s the mirror to Haven in this story, in that she’s got the perceptive type of empathy that lets her pick things up about a person, but not that part where she’s held back from using it against them. Of course, since she’s not an antagonist in this fic, I can see her as trying to use it to HELP others too, which can range from harmless stuff like setting up a date but also stuff that makes you go “hey, whoa, idc that you were trying to help, not cool” which really relates to Manon and Maxime’s struggles, so I think that’s something they could work on together. It’s also a source of conflict with Madelyne, whose past with being steered by others has hurt her so much that she reacts the worst of the lot to this behavior. I think Claudine’s very much a Scorpio, at least my version/interpretation. They’re supposed to be big on being psychologists, physicians, engineers, financial advisors/analysts, chemists, surgeons, auditors. . .people who have extremely analytical perspectives and a need to work things out in some way, whether it’s people or bodies or machines. Some get into occult stuff for the same reasons---remember, “occult” the etymology for occult “hidden, covered over, secret” and that attracts some people for the same reason science attracts other. Scorpios, as water signs, are also supposed to be extremely intuitive, which goes well with my observation about how she must be very perceptive about others in order to manipulate them. They’re also supposed to be plotters who have things planned out ten steps ahead, which, yeah, also. She’s probably the best strategist on the squad alongside Shaw. She might in fact be better than him in some ways, because she can predict and understand people better, which Shaw often fails at. Her analytical perspective lets her point out holes pretty quickly too, but I like to think sometimes she lets the more foolish or headstrong members of the squad go ahead anyway, because she wants to see what will happen. Scorpios are also absolutely the goth sign, their colors are black and red. So, yeah, honestly gonna be drawing a LOT of Scorpio inspo for her. EDIT: also analytical nature means she’s totally down to talk literary themes with Pyro, she ABSOLUTELY asks WHY the curtains are blue

The bunker was exceptionally busy this evening, that was the first thing the redhead noted. The second thing they took note of was the fact nobody had asked them to do anything to help. They were the helper! At least, that was most of their job description. They found it quite odd, to say the least. But with nothing to do they felt a little.. Lost.

“Habibi?” 

Galin poked their head into the kitchen, violet eyes blinking at the man standing at the counter with a mixing bowl. Silver hair tied into a high ponytail, an expression of concentration on his face. Galin wandered further into the kitchen, hands clasped behind their back. Decord looked up as they came to stop directly behind him.

“What are you-”

“You’re allergic.”

He cut them off, mixing the batter in the bowl. Galin made a face behind his back, tilting their head at the man. They weren’t allergic to very much, especially not anything edible. The idea of Decord cooking with bees was… Odd. But, they trusted his judgement. The older man set the bowl down on the counter, turning to look at them with his arms crossed over his chest.

Decord’s expression softened at theirs. Galin didn’t necessarily enjoy feeling like they weren’t needed for anything. The man sighed softly, uncrossing his arms to rub the back of his neck awkwardly. “Right.. Kisa needs you for something, mon étoile..” At that, the redhead lit up like a torch. 

“I gotta go right away then! Bye, baby!”

“Bye- And they’re gone..” 

Galin bounded down to the ladder leading to the lower level of the bunker, sliding down the metal bars with ease. “‘Lin! Once you’re done.. Whatever it is that you do, I need your help putting up these decorations!” Khristine called as Galin ran by them. They waved over their shoulder at the brunet, Khristine could only sigh at their excitement.

Kisa looked up when the door to his workspace flew open, the redhead standing in the doorway panting. “Oh, right on time.” Kisa kicked himself off one of the tables, letting his chair wheel over towards them. Galin stood straight, entering the room and closing the door behind them. “You’ve been working out more, I have to measure you again.”

“Really?! That’s what you needed me for?”

“Why do you sound so disappointed? You’re getting an outfit out of it!” 

Galin groaned dramatically, but they gave in, allowing the man to stand and measure them. “It really isn’t that bad.” Kisa shook his head, wrapping the fabric measuring tape around their torso. Galin stuck their tongue out at him, they really didn’t mind. But it was funnier if their best friend didn’t know that. “Hm.. Alright.. Wingspan.” 

They couldn’t help but zone out as he measured them, only paying attention when they needed to be careful about stepping over his tail rather than accidentally on it. But ultimately, their thoughts were elsewhere. With Decord, of course. Galin couldn’t help themself, their thoughts were always with Decord.

Immortality sort of scared them, but it’d been a couple of years now. It wasn’t really immortality, interstices.. But that still meant an eternity. An eternity they wanted to spend with the man in question. It was almost embarrassing to think about. Would they get married? Hopefully Kisa would design their wedding outfits.

Would all of their friends come?

Galin hoped Coralie would be there, too. Maybe Manon too. They held back their giggle at the thought of Decord trying to wipe Manon’s signature lipstick off his cheek. Sulien had to be there, too! And Maxim would hand them off, of course. Khristine would be in charge of decoration while Inessa would help with planning..

Sasha would make sure the food was perfect, and probably keep Emil away from trying to help her cook. Even Adrik was there, helping Khristine with the floral arrangements. Who would take whose name? If Decord took Galin’s, he’d become royalty of sorts. But if Galin took Decord’s they’d become a lesser nobility.

Those thoughts didn’t matter, not really. Galin smiled to themself as Kisa mumbled to himself, jotting down a few notes on a piece of parchment. All that mattered was standing across from Decord, happy, fulfilled, ready to start an eternity together. Their cheeks warmed. They weren’t even twenty one yet and they were already thinking about marrying the man.

“Alright, I’m done. You can go help Khris now.”

Kisa looked up from his notes, blinking at the zoned out redhead. The man ran a hand through his blue hair, pushing it out of the way as he examined them. Goofy smile, darkened cheeks, faraway happy gaze? “Ugh. Teyvat to Galin Maher!” Galin snapped out of it, shaking their head, violet eyes widening. “Go see Khris, and stop thinking about your boyfriend.”

Galin grinned sheepishly.

“Never! You know me. Plus you’re worse about Lucille!”
