The removal of the word "obey" from marriage vows in the West reflects changes in societal attitudes towards gender equality and the evolving role of women in relationships. The traditional vow for wives to "obey" their husbands was seen as reflective of a patriarchal and unequal power dynamic within marriage. As attitudes towards gender equality shifted, many couples and religious institutions chose to update their marriage vows to reflect a more egalitarian partnership, emphasizing mutual respect and partnership rather than obedience. This change reflects broader social and cultural shifts towards more egalitarian and inclusive relationships.
YOU STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO WOMEN AND YOUNG GIRLS OF AMERICA!

Congratulations France! 💙🤍❤️
In reaction to the United States Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, Mathilde Panot, French MP and President of the La France insoumise parliamentary group submitted a bill to the French National Assembly.
It aimed to codify the right to a safe abortion for women in the French Constitution. It passed on a 337–32 vote on 24 November 2023, starting the process of enshrining the right to abortion in the French Constitution.
In January 2024, the National Assembly voted in favor of the constitutional amendment 433-30. For the amendment to be officially added to the constitution, it then passed through the Senate in February 267-50.
On 4 March 2024, Parliament amended Article 34 in a 780 to 72 vote. This amendment made France, as of passage, the only nation to guarantee the right to an abortion.
The amendment describes abortion as a "guaranteed freedom".

Republicans: All life is precious
Me: Will you get a vaccine to protect others then?
Republicans: No you can’t tell me what to do with my body
Me: You’re telling people with uteri what to do with their body
Republicans: But it’s to save the life of another human
Me: Which is exactly what the vaccines does— it save lives
Republicans: You can’t force me to take a vaccine to save the life of others. There might be complications!
Me: well, then why are you forcing people to have children they don’t want? There are complications with pregnancy and side effects and the possibility of death.
Republicans: fine if you wanna be dead I’m just gonna shoot you with my gun then because my right to bear arms trumps your right to bodily autonomy
Me: okay then. I have more rights as a dead person than I do as a living one.
Republicans: *shoots me*
Republicans: All lives are precious

So gay marriage had been legal in the US for less than a decade. And we can see how quickly we could possibly not even make it to 2025. Once abortion is gone they can go straight towards enforcing everyone’s straightness. I don’t think marriage is the end all to lgbtq rights but it is also a form of choice.
It’s so weird to live in a country that constantly hates true happiness (being able to be with the people you love) and freedom (having control over your own body).

Yes, Spain!!!!
[Image descriptions: 1. Tweet by AJ+ @AJPlus [gold check verified] that says: Spain became the 1st country in Europe to offer paid menstrual leave, for 3-5 days. It also gave final approval to laws that: [bullet point] enshrine rights to abortion for people over 16 [bullet point] let trans people over 16 self-identify gender by simple declaration, one of the only places to do so [Attached to the Tweet is a photo of a group of people with trans flags gathered on the steps of a building with large stone columns.]
2. A headline from DW that says: “Spain passes laws on trans rights, abortion, menstrual leave – DW.” The visible part of the article says, “The new laws expand transgender rights and abortion access, as well as give workers paid menstrual leave. The approval comes ahead of…” \End descriptions]

Shoutout to all the people of Ohio who just passed abortion, contraception, and reproductive rights of all people into constitutional law by a fucking 12+ point margin despite the state legislature desperately trying to do everything they can to fuck up the vote. I'm so proud of y'all!!
Edit: Trans people fucking rule, sex work is cool and deserves respect, sex isn't a binary, gender critical theory is based on terrible disproven science and is just Phrenology for sex.

I literally do not care what the Bible says about any political issue. I am not Christian. Christian scripture should have zero effect on my life or my personal freedoms.

Because I circulated a call to action about it here that got some traction: to those of you who contacted Maine legislators when it counted, thank you— it worked. Maine just passed sanctuary-state-level protection for trans rights.
