Thank you for the very detailed reply! You’ve given me a lot to think about from a legal perspective. Follow up questions (feel free to ignore if I’m pestering you) in the hypothetical scenario that Felix simply tires of Oliver the way he did with Eddie, does Oliver still react the same way? If their friendship had ended on more amicable, gradual, mundane terms, is Oliver still pushed over the edge to the point that murder is on the table? I think his first instinct would be to crank up the lies, but if Felix doesn’t bite? He’d still be heartbroken, but would he be as angry as he was at “you make my blood run cold”?
Had Felix lived, do you think he would’ve eventually grown into a stiff upper lipped snob? After all, Elspeth was also a party girl who fraternised with rock stars and then look at the version we meet.
This is an unpopular opinion I guess but to me the heartbeat of the movie was Felix. I know Oliver is more popular, especially on Tumblr, but I was completely smitten with Jacob Elordi. What are your headcanons about him? Mine is that the reason he was found so quickly is because Venetia raised the alarm. I think she was very very attached to him (maybe to an unhealthy amount the way a lot of people seem to be) and no matter how busy things got she always had one eye on her brother, making sure he was okay.
My pleasure to answer, Anon! 1. In the hypothetical scenario that Felix got bored, Oliver would continue to try to find ways to hook Felix back in. The only way he would then act with more murderous intent would be if there were no going back whatsoever. No way out but this. Oliver, in the moment where he decides to give Felix the bottle, is a hurt animal backed into a corner. So he reacts impulsively and emotionally. Outside of that context, he will continue to do anything that he has to do to continue to be interesting to Felix and to keep himself in Felix's orbit while not harming Felix as long as he does not believe that there is no other way. I do not think there would be a reason for Oliver to let it go. He would keep at it and never let go. And it's evident that he would continue to get at it since, in film canon, it has been 15 years and he continues to view Felix as his God, worthy of his love and idolatry, despite being dead. If I may quote NBC Hannibal for a moment, Dr. DuMaurier tells Will Graham (now having accepted the dark parts of his nature and desirous to act chaotically in order to free his would be lover): "You found religion. Nothing more dangerous than that." Though I won't get into the dissection we could make of that line in the context of its source, I can express that, to Oliver, Felix is, essentially, his religion. And Oliver is nothing short of devout. Yes, even sacrificing Felix falls into a sense of idolatry because he has forever frozen Felix at the height of his perfection through Oliver's eyes. The way Felix is framed in the opening and closing montages of the film, through Oliver's eyes, tells us as such. Felix is forever perfect. Given that this is how Oliver sees Felix and feels about Felix regardless of all the foibles that Felix certainly has, he would NEVER let Felix go. Ever. He would keep trying to hook Felix or he would die trying.
2. I do speculate a bit about this more in my fic than I have in proper meta, but...Felix would have an immense amount of pressure on him to confirm to fit a specific mould. Despite that Venetia is older, context clues in the film (such as Felix having the conversation with Farleigh in regards to money for Frederica) indicate that it would have been Felix to inherit the estate and the title that goes along with it, certainly. This means that while some deviation from the "standard" picture of stiff upper lip aristocracy might've been tolerated, it would not have been permissible and allowed in its entirety. @leiflitter covers bits of this in their wonderful You're Almost Home series which, if you've not read, I strongly recommend. In their story, an adult Felix still retains bits and pieces of the vibrant personality that makes him him, but parts of it have been dampened by the circumstance of him having a quickie marriage to a woman he barely knew because she got pregnant, becoming a parent (especially becoming a parent very young), and eventually becoming the Master of the Estate and, if I'm not mistaken, a baronet. Per the rules of the aristocracy, there was no way that Felix could simply not marry a girl he got pregnant. He had to marry her to cover the scandal and the baby serves as an heir which would be expected of him. Even if we go outside of this wonderful fic, and go back into canon meta, Felix has expectations on him: marrying a woman, having heirs, inheriting and managing Saltburn. It doesn't seem like a lot and it does come with gargantuan wealth but, you said it yourself, Elspeth used to run around with musicians and was probably wild back in the day, but she became a house cat, so to speak, when she became the Lady of Saltburn. And Elspeth would arguably have had less expectation on her. She needed to marry rich and birth heirs and be the picture of quiet civility. She is likely, as we know her, a dampened version of who she was before marriage. Felix has just the bit more of not only perpetuating the system to which he belongs but managing it. It's a lot of responsibility to put on one person. And, I think, he's already keenly aware of the responsibility that will fall onto his lap even before his father dies. It's why he buries his emotions in alcohol, drugs, and (terrible) sex with girls he couldn't give a flying fig about. So, while I do think some who 20yo Felix is survives an adulthood in the aristocracy, we're looking at an adult Felix being kinda like his mum in some aspects and kind of like his dad in others (dampened, stiff upper lip versions of who they probably really are).
3. I don't know that it's an unpopular opinion, actually. In my opinion, the film itself tells you it's about Felix. It's often misinterpreted (specifically by shit critics and YouTubers) as being a bad "Eat the Rich" movie with Oliver being the wild bisexual who just wanted the Cattons' riches. However, the first line is about Oliver "not" being in love with Felix. And, we know from Emerald, that is a lie. That Oliver was in love with Felix. It's evident from how the camera frames Felix. It's evident with the fact that the light goes from rich and golden while Felix is alive, to stark and white in a post-Felix world. Felix is Oliver's religion, and he is the story. He is, as you said, the heartbeat. What happens is that Oliver is a lot more fun to dissect than Felix is. I say this as someone who continuously dissects Felix and have put a lot of the dissection of his character into fic. But, Oliver would not be Oliver without Felix. He didn't really exist before him and we wouldn't have the film or any of the events without Felix being this Apollo coded figure. Also, yes, Jacob Elordi's subtle performance as Felix often goes unnoticed, but it was absolutely wonderful.
4. Ok so one of my head-canons would be this (another long post because it's how I do when I really get into it). Venetia is his older sister, so I agree that she is very protective of him (Again, something I explore more in my fic than I have in meta but I could do a whole post on the sibling dynamics). I have other small ones like Felix repeatedly took his shoes off and threw them when he was very little, that his guitar playing is subpar but he knows how to play Oasis' Wonderwall and probably played it for Ollie, that he could not pick out India or Annabel out in a police lineup (I just don't think he really views them as people), that he has a MASSIVE sweet tooth and prefers "girly" cocktails to more "manly" drinks but doesn't order them because he doesn't want people to judge, that he has comfort clothes and wears them until they're beyond repair (like the blue sweater at the beginning of the film having holes for example), etc. Felix is lovely and we know so little about him and I do adore him. I get why Oliver lost his mind over this big himbo.

hii! I wanted to ask this but was unsure whether or not to send it.
But how/what do you think Leon would act if he lost his daughter during an apocalyptic situation (Sorta like Raccoon city or like what happened or RE6 and assuming aeon child is like, somewhat kid/teenager age)
Hii!! AND BOY DO YOU HAVE ME THINKING HARD ABOUT THIS (´O`) SOBS
TW:Mentions of character death/angst??
●・○・●・○・●●・○・●・○・●●・○・●
For my scenario I'd like to think Leon heard it from someone else. His heart would sink just hearing that something happened to his daughter. Leon getting angry, yelling, asking where his little girl is. If there were something to damage nearby, he'd break it. Like a glass cup for example.
Whoever or whatever took his daughter away from him would be killed by him if it was the last thing he did, he'd make sure of it.
Since you mentioned his daughter being a child or teenager, I'd assume it hurt him even more. Knowing the personality and quirks his daughter had, the way she spoke to him everyday. Going to school and just being normal, something he's always wanted. He'd be more than happy to give that life to her. Until everything changed, again.

I like this concept a lot actually. Thanks for the ask! I'm always open to answering more ₊˚⊹♡

I think it's time that we all realize that the fans of this show are thinking too hard and making more meaningful connections than the people in charge of the show. It is a recipe for disaster and I have no desire to invest anything into this show from now on. Somebody call me if they ever grow the balls to capitalize on the potential of this amazing show
That's the point of why I'm so pissed off, it was never something to overthink or pull things out of thin air, all of 6b they rubbed it in our faces how safe Buck was with the Diaz's, on their couch, only to have this happen? They knew we thought the couch would be Eddie, because that's what they were building up to all this time and they decided this was the best way to end the season

Hi! Fellow Saltburn enthusiast here! I have a question, and I’ve actually already sent it to a couple of accounts who also write extensively about Saltburn. I’d love to hear your views!
Why do you think Oliver didn’t try to kidnap/imprison/blackmail Felix into being with him instead of just jumping to murder? He was clearly capable of manipulation and probably could have found a way to keep an unwilling Felix around if he managed to get away with so many murders? I feel like even in the haze of desperation and panic it sort of should’ve struck him that killing Felix meant a lifetime of misery? It wasn’t exactly a spur of the moment kill, there was some amount of premeditation involved. I was honestly confused at how quickly Oliver made a decision that basically ensured he’d never feel a sliver of happiness ever again. How did he even manage to sleep after, knowing what he had done to Felix? The whole sequence where they look for Felix and eventually find the body is so gut wrenching to me. The music, the foreboding, the cinematography ughhhh.
Thanks for the ask anon! Ok so, I'm going to break this down in sections because there's a few different points to tackle!
Oliver does have the capability of doing horrible things, but I also do not think he's a great planner. He can only think ahead so much. And while I think that he could, arguably, find a way to kidnap Felix or find a way to blackmail him, this is contrary to what I think his goal is. I quote Cheap Trick (though I prefer the Letters to Cleo version): "I want you to want me/I need you to need me/ I'd love you to love me/ I'm beggin' you to beg me." Oliver isn't like the one guy from 365, he wants Felix to cede of his own accord and his own will. Yes, there is a level of emotional manipulation re: the lies about his family. However, I do think that when Oliver says: "I'm still the same person!" he is right. Outside of the way in which he hooked Felix, he would have no reason to be different. Stands to reason, in my opinion, that he is who he is with Felix bar exaggerations and implications of his past.
Let's talk about murder...Oliver only murdered Elspeth. He facilitated the deaths of Felix and Venetia. Murder not only requires intent, it requires certainty beyond a reasonable doubt of direct action. I was raised by lawyers so I view things through that lens. At most, if we were going by American law, which is the one I know, he would arguably fall under the category of voluntary manslaughter. Why? Because he did not directly do an act which led to Felix and Venetia's deaths. Rather, he put the dominos in place and that can be classed as a provocation; he provoked them in a way that led to their deaths. (Note: I am not delulu, I am aware that all of this is wrong. I'm just trying to put it forth from a legal POV.)
When it comes to Felix, he hastily put cocaine in the champagne and I do not think he thought it through way in advance. Secondly, he had the bottle in his hand for large parts of the maze conversation and deciding to give it to Felix was a spur of the moment action. Third, he had no way of knowing whether Felix would drink or not. Fourthly, Felix had ALREADY been doing drugs and you cannot specifically pinpoint, beyond a reasonable doubt, that it was the little bit of cocaine he drank (which, from research, would actually have been less potent and less quick to get into Felix's bloodstream than the lines he snorted) that caused him to OD. Fifthly, I am not entirely convinced that Oliver knew it was going to foolproof kill Felix. The way he wakes up the morning after still has the stink of hope. So, I can't be certain either way if his intent was to kill or to simply cause Felix to OD to the point he was taken to a hospital and then Ollie could Nurse Nightingale the situation.
When it comes to Venetia, Oliver did not tell her to use the razors. He placed the razors on the tub. He did so relatively impulsively (likely, imo in a bit of rage) and at the last minute. He had absolutely no way of knowing whether Venetia would take the razors and he had no way of knowing that she would use them in a deadly way rather than in a way to hurt herself but not kill. Further, from the bit that we get of the crime scene in the bathroom (I did pause it so I kinda memorised), there is no indication in the scene that Oliver was actually the one to use the razors. The scene would look entirely different and his clothes would be soiled or he would have blood on him, etc.
That being said, Oliver's desperation and panic and anxiety regarding the situation with Felix likely led him to the following thought: he would rather exist in a world where Felix ceases to exist, than exist in a world where he is inexorably removed from Felix. Felix was and continues to be Oliver's whole world. He likely thought that he was going to lose Felix either way. But, in Felix dying, he and Felix stay inherently connected. He can leave Saltburn but now he and Felix are forever linked. Elspeth, for example, automatically associates Oliver with Felix. It's why Oliver knew he had an in with her all those years later. Further, and I think I wrote this elsewhere, Felix's headstone will ALWAYS have Felix's date of birth, and the date of Oliver's 20th birthday. They are linked in this way as well.
I think it was all very rushed and confused when he did any of it. I think there might've been a chance for him and Felix even in the sense of friendship. But Oliver reacted emotionally and impulsively. He didn't plan putting the cocaine in the bottle probably until a couple of minutes before he did it. He didn't plan the thing with Venetia. He didn't plan getting Saltburn from the start. The only thing he planned and orchestrated was a Romcom style meet-cute. That was it. The rest he made up as he went along from noticing all the little details about Felix. But ultimately, above all, this weird little man wanted to be wanted and wanted to be loved by the object of his affection. Forcing the matter with kidnapping and/or blackmail was not going to get him what he truly wanted anymore than Felix's death did.
How does he manage to sleep? Self-medication, certainly. Pretty sure he yo-yo's uppers and downers like crazy. Coke to dance like the lonely mad king he is in the afternoon, Xanny or weed at night to come down and sleep. What's more, Saltburn is an extension of Felix and it, likely, comforts him to be in a place that represents Felix. A place that is haunted by the ghosts of memories he shared with Felix to which we are not privy.
Also, yes. Finding Felix's corpse, the whole scene, is stunning and staggering and heartbreaking. Absolutely stunning film craft involved all the way around.
Sorry for the loooong response, but I am a lawyer's daughter and an English Literature major, so I had to write my mini essay with some level of (certainly biased) evidentiary support.

💚 - Top Three Fight/Action Scenes
1. I will always love the fight seen between Raph and Leo in 07. Just the animation for what it was, the boiling point, the tension— it was just chef’s kiss!
2. The final fight against Shredder in 2012. The boys have lost their father and even then they try to fix Shredder’s mutated state to what it was and Leo tries and nearly succeeds to appeal to his human/sane side, but in the end… Leo does what he needs to do.
3. The Leo’s fighting Shredder alone just before they go through their window (literally) and barn era. I love both 12 and 03s very much.

How are you still so hopeful on buddie happening?honestly after this ep I’m thinking they are going to introduce a new love interest for Eddie and I’m so bummed bc they truly could create this amazing love story but they are cowards
Actually I don't see it that way, Pepa helped him understand that he should move forward, that he shouldn't be alone, but let's put it in perspective, in 6A we had almost no moment between Buck and Eddie, they were practically just co-workers and not the best friends we are used to seeing, and suddenly 6B starts, and we have Eddie screaming and running to save Buck after he himself was shot out of the ladder. We saw him crying at Buck's bedside when Chris was talking to him. Canon that Buck feels safe and comfortable in Eddie's house and lastly the date/no date playing poker, which coincidentally we saw before we saw Eddie go back to dating, coincidence? I don't think so. I think this episode was important for Eddie, he said it, that he felt he had to make a performance on the date with Vanessa.
He doesn't want to be alone, and he knows there is only one person he doesn't have to act or not be himself, Buck.
At this point, it is only a matter of time.
