i just finished all the light we cannot see on netflix, and now i’m going to be one of those annoying people who think that the book is so much better and that they prefer the book because i think the book is so much better and i prefer the book, lol.
one of my reasons is anthony doerr’s incredible prose. to this day i still remember how he compares the shadow of a nazi officer’s car to the grim reaper flying across the walls. another reason is i actually like the original ending, lol sorry. and the netflix series also almost completely erases jutta’s story, so.
anyways. i’d love to recommend the novel to anyone who hasn’t read it.

To all the lovely book purest,
I know you are pissed (and I sympathize) but as someone who just saw the All the Light We Cannot See series on Netflix (and knows how the ending was suppose to go) I have to do my due diligence in championing the series I just saw and say that I loved how the series ended.
I love the ambiguity and the hope it evoked. Far too many ww2 stories (romantic sub genres or otherwise) with a similar premise (Le Silence de La Mer, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Boy in the Stripped Pajamas, etc…) end in tragedy or implied tragedy and in that way I found the ending to this series unexpected and refreshing.
That said, I’m looking forward to reading the book and having my heart shredded and I’ll be honest even when I’m done reading it I would still be happier knowing the show’s ending exists to give me some hope that in some slightly alternate storyline Werner and Marie might just have that elusive happy ending their characters deserve after so much tragedy.

i know it would probably be unnecessary narratively speaking but i NEED a second season where werner returns to saint malo, reunites with marie and they remain together, keeping frequence 13.10 alive as a beacon of hope and light, to pass on to the next generations

I just started All the Light We Cannot See on Netflix, & I don't know if it's because I'm crazy or what, but I have absolutely no idea what these critics are talking about??? 🤨

Beautiful Crime by bellarkyy on AO3
Werner is a German soldier who clings to the voice of a girl who broadcasts over the radio. Marie is a blind French girl who hopes to send messages with her broadcasts. Despite their differences, they fight for what's right and their lives intertwine in ways they never could have imagined.
OR
An exploration of Werner and Marie throughout the show and how they could have had a happy ending together.

Thinking about ATLWCS again reminds me of when I was 13 and read this book for the first time and there was no fandom so to cope with the ending I made an au where Frederick, Werner and Marie-Laure were all friends living in the present day
