Fritz is going to pass in history as the only person who got to do the most improbable and embrassing thing and to take Admiral Kazansky down with him. The man who's he worships the ground he walk on and who's been his greatest crush since when Bradely showed him a picture of his uncles back when he was ten years old. Frizt has a thing for older man and an even bigger things for Thomas Kazansky.
So when it happens and said Admiral ends up on him, face at least than once centimetre away, he feels like heaven has opened his door for him and only him. He takes to feel like that for almost two entire minutes before everyone and their staff manager is shouting and taking Admiral Kazansky away from his chest. He misses him already.
They're gonna talk about this at his wedding and during his eulogy, years from now, because it was so awsome. Not the part where he tripped in front of all the people he could have tripped in front of but, y'know, the following part was actually so awsome.
Phoenix is at his right, Roo at his left and Vice Admiral Cyclone is patting Admiral Kazansky everywhere to see if it's okay. And the Admiral is laughing, full blown scale laugh. Simpson check the kid, I'm alright, and try to not made his life impossible. It wasn't his fault. Fitz is looking at this man, a couple of steps from him, standing up, straightening his uniform and coming towards him with his end out to help him on his feet and he can't find a single word to say to him if not I'm so sorry Admiral.
Think nothing of it ki-Lieutenant, you probably saved me from hours of long boring speeches. Let's get your ribs checked, I'm not as lit as I was thirty years ago.
People are going to talk about this day yes, at his wedding and at his funeral, as the day he tripped, took down Admiral Kazansky with him and then Admiral Kazansky himself took him, with an arm around his shoulder to the doctor. Ah, fuck them and their eating together with the Admiral, he got the preferential treatment and the man is hugging him! Or at least he's giving half of a hug. Fritz isn't pitchy.
(Captain Mitchell is sitting on one that blue and really uncomfortable hospital chairs, when Fritz finishes with the doctor. He's looking at him without really been looking at him and, the moment the Admiral is out of the room too, Maverick is on his feet.
I get held back once because of paperwork and you fall on one of my students! And worst of all they call me telling me you were in an accident and at the hospital, Frizt know he isn't quiet screaming but he feels like the man had quiet a scare, maybe he should intervene to say it wasn't the Admiral's fault? But worst of it all Iceman no one, and I say no one, not even Rooster that little traitor, filmed it. Now I'll have to leave with the idea of what it happened without having hard proof of you being clumsy once in a while.
Oh, that's and interesting turn of events, maybe someone should fetch him pop corn if they're going to be there for a little longer? But then they are both laughing, and Maverick is gently moving the Admiral's face to check if everything's okay before kissing his nose. You're allowed to have this kind of fun without me, got it Kazansy?
Yeah, whatever makes you sleep at night Mav he answers sweetly before kissing him on the lips, once and then a second time. Yep, Fritz is gonna need popcorn, ASAP.)
((In the next two days the Admiral comes around during class to check if he's really okay and if he feels like flying or not. Frizt would very much like to inform this man that he's already personally flying without the need of a plane, thank you very much sir.))

Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x mom!Reader, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw x wife!Reader, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell x platonic!Reader
Ask: "I had an idea for Top Gun, the reader was “Goose”'s wife and Bradley's mother, she is in the Navy and trains the squadron for the mission with Maverick. When Maverick and his son's plane are about to be shot down instead of Jake saving them, she is the one who saves them. Cute ending if possible" by @motherofdragons1998
Tags: Fluff, Angst, obviously Top Gun Maverick spoilers, hints to Hangster 👀, Reader is a widow, Use of Y/N, Reader's callsign is Shadow
Notes: I am SO nervous to post this omfg. This is the first thing I ever wrote based off an ask and I hope I did everything right with it lmao. This is also the longest piece I have ever written. I am not 100% happy with it, but I did my best and I hope ya'll like it! Apologies for any Grammar or in general writing mistakes, English isn't my first language. I am also open for more requests/asks!
Words: 2500+
Story under the cut! ✂️
Getting the call to return to Top Gun after years definitely wasn't something you expected. And finding out that you had to train the best pilots in the world for a suicide mission didn't make your anxiety any better.
After you arrived at the Academy, you were met with Beau “Cyclone” Simpson and Solomon “Warlock” Bates and they introduced you to the Mission.
“Captain Y/N “Shadow” Bradshaw." Cyclone began. “I'm Admiral Beau Simpson and this is Admiral Solomon Bates.”
“Pleasure to meet you, sir.” You replied.
“I hope it's no problem we will be introducing you to the Mission without the other instructor.”
“Other.. instructor, sir?”, your eyes narrowed a little in confusion.
"Yes, you will be teaching the class with another instructor.” Your curiosity was sparked, but you didn't get to ask anything else as they started explaining the Mission.
“The target is an unsanctioned uranium enrichment plant built in violation of a multilateral NATO treaty. The uranium produced there represents a direct threat to our allies in the region.” Warlock started to explain.
After the explanation it as your turn to explain your view on the mission. Then, they revealed who the pilots tasked with the mission were. “We've recalled 12 TOPGUN graduates from their squadrons. We want you to narrow-”
As soon as you turned to the monitor your heart skipped a beat and your breath caught in your throat. Bradley.
“Is there a problem, Captain?”
“I just.. didn't expect to see my son there, sir.” You muttered, still a bit in disbelief.
“Bradley Bradshaw, aka Rooster. I understand his father was also a pilot? What was his callsign again?”
Ouch. “It was Goose, sir.”
“Tragic what happened.”
Daggers. With every word daggers were being stabbed in your heart. Not one day went by without you missing Nick. Your husband. The father of your son. The love of your life.
After the briefing, you headed to a nearby bar to try and gather your thoughts. As you walked into the bar, you suddenly saw a familiar figure sitting there. No, two. Two familiar faces.
“Pete?”
The man turned around with a stunned look on his face.
“Y/N?”
“What the hell are you doing here?” You walked closer to him, a smile forming on my face.
“I could ask you the same.”
“He pissed off another admiral.” Penny commented and you cracked a smile. “It's nice to see you again, Penny” You smiled and sat down next to Pete.
“Don't tell me you're going to-”
“Teach a mission here?” You completed his sentence.
“So you are the other instructor! They wouldn't even tell me!” Mav chuckled at your complaint and shook his head a little.
You heard some noises at the other side of the bar and glanced over at the pool tables. There were pilots gathered and you recognised them as the graduates that had been recalled for the mission.
A few more people joined the bar. It didn't even take you two seconds to recognise your son. Hawaii shirt, sunglasses on his nose, that damn mustache like Nick had. Bradley was the spitting image of his father. You also heard someone call out “Bradshaw! Is that you?”
You didn't want to admit it, but sometimes it hurt a little. The way Nick would have been so proud of him hurt. And knowing that you were the reason his papers were held back because you didn't want him to have the same fate as Goose.
As soon as Pete recognised Bradley he quickly turned away, as if to hide from him. “Mav, you don't have to hi-”
“I cost him years of his career.”
“I know, but that was because I wanted it that way. You did it for me, because of Goose. Don't you think it's time he finds out it was me?”
“No, god no. It'll be fine, just.. let it be.”
You sighed and turned back to your drink, taking a few sips.
“How about ringing me up before the evening rush?” Maverick suddenly said to Penny and stood up. You glanced over at Bradley, watching him with his fellow aviators. Hasn't even noticed his own mother yet. You chuckled a little to yourself.
“It's been declined.”
You snapped out of your thoughts when Penny said that to Pete and laid his credit card on the table in front of him. You curiously watched and tried to hide your amused grin.
“You're kidding.”
Soon enough, Pete was getting carried out by three pilots and you watched, not even hiding your amusement.
Then, you heard a few tones coming from the piano and your heart dropped.
“You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain. Too much love drives a man insane.”
Rooster was playing and singing “Great balls of fire”. The same song Nick loved performing, a little out of key but it was still always the most perfect thing to you. You stared at him in disbelief, his back turned to you. Other pilots were standing next to him, singing along. The whole Bar was watching him. Your little boy.
After he was finished you watched him perform a little funny dance as the bar kept chanting “Rooster! Rooster!”. God, when did he grow up so much?
You stood up and slowly made your way towards him.
“I assumed you would at least let your Mother know when you're on a new Mission?”
You could see the way his heart dropped and he looked like a toddler being caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
“Mom?” He slowly turned around to you, you had an amused grin on your face.
“This is how I find out you're back at TOPGUN?” You grinned. You could hear his friends letting out laughs and a few comments in the background. “I- uh—”
“Oh, shut up and give your mother a hug.”
________________________________________
The next day, all the pilots sat together in a hanger, ready to be taught about the mission. Admiral Bates was standing in front of them all, ready to explain.
“Your instructors are TOPGUN graduates with real world experience in every mission aspect you'll be expected to master and they are considered some of the finest pilots this program has ever produced. I give you Captain Pete Mitchell, callsign Maverick and Captain Y/N Bradshaw, callsign Shadow.”
Maverick and you walked in together, walking up to the lectern where Warlock stood at first. The pilots turned to look at you both and you could see their faces drop as some of them realized they kicked out their instructor last night.
You shot Bradley a quick small smile, meanwhile he gave Maverick a look that could kill.
You both started to talk to the class, Mav doing the most talking. After some briefing, you all got your Jets ready and then took off into the sky for some training and to show what they are able to do.
The next few days were spent preparing and training, trying to get them ready.
But once during some briefing in a classroom, a fight broke out. Hangman had made a comment about Goose and it set Rooster off, almost going for his throat but you all managed to keep them apart. Maverick dismissed them all for the day.
Bradley went back to the base to calm down, Maverick went to meet Iceman and you.. Well, you drove to the Hard Deck and sat down at the Beach there. The whole time you were lost in thoughts. Was he ready for this? Was I ready for this? Was anybody ready for this mission?
“Oh Nick..” You started to tear up. “I don't want to send Bradley out there. He's not ready. No one is! I-I can't risk losing him too! I.. I just can't lose my son too… He's my little boy.. Our little boy.. When did he grow up so much…? I need you here.. god.. I wish you were here..”
Even though he wasn't here anymore, you knew Goose was still watching over you and listening whenever he could.
________________________________________
It felt like the time until the mission flew by. It almost felt like a blur, as if it wasn't real. And burying one of your life-long friends made it even worse. Iceman could finally rest, but it was still incredibly painful. Seeing Maverick grief him made it even worse.
But in a blink of an eye, you were all on a ship in the middle of the Ocean, about to choose which Daggers would fly. You were going to stay back as Backup and Mav was going to fly with them.
You knew he was going to choose him as his wingman, but you secretly begged it wasn't true. You wished it would be Hangman, but it was going to be your son.
“Choose your two Foxtrot teams.” Cyclone said.
“Payback and Fanboy. Phoenix and Bob.” You both had decided these teams together, but the Wingman was Mav's own choice.
“And your Wingman?”
After a moment of anticipation, he finally said…
“Rooster.”
There it was. Your son was flying the suicide mission. And all you could do was listen through the comms and pray.
Everyone went on Deck and walked to their Jets. As you stood by your Jet, you looked over at Rooster and noticed him talking to Hangman. You had noticed throughout the whole preparation there seemed to be some tension and.. closeness between them. There was at least something.
You turned back to your Jet, climbing inside in case they needed Backup during the mission.
As the mission began and the teams flew away, your heart was pounding. With every minute you felt your anxiety increasing, scared for the safety of your son and also your friend.
You listened closely through the comms, listening to everything…..
“Bull's-eye! Bull's-eye! Bull's-eye!"
Yes! God, yes! They did it!
But now it was time to get back alive…
The rest of the mission was a pure air fight, raw dogfighting. They just needed to make it out alive. Please.
But to your worst fear the enemy planes were focused on Rooster.
“Dagger Two defending. Shit, I'm out of flares!”
“Rooster, evade, evade!” You heard his uncle shout.
“I can't shake ‘em! They're on me! They're on me!”
You didn't know what was happening., you weren't there. You didn't see it. All You could do was listen. Listen and wait. It felt awful not being able to do anything.
There was a moment of silence, only the heavy breathing from the pilots.
“Mav! No!”
“Dagger One is hit! I repeat, Dagger One is hit! Maverick is down!”
Your breath caught in your throat. Mav was hit.
“Dagger One, Status. Status! Anyone see him? Did anyone see him?! Dagger One, come in!” You heard the panic in Rooster's voice.
“I didn't see a parachute.”
Shit.
“We have to circle back!”
You felt your heart pumping, this was all so much. You knew this was a difficult mission, hell, a suicide mission but you still hoped this wouldn't happen!
“All Daggers flow to ECP. You have bandits headed for you.”
“What about Maverick?!” There was a strain in Bradley's voice.
“Dagger Square request permission to launch and fly air cover.” You suddenly spoke up. You had to help. You needed to help.
“Negative, spare.”
Shit!
“Dagger, you are not to engage. Repeat, do not engage.”
“Dagger Two, return to carrier. Acknowledge.”
Bradley, please. Come home safe.
You also wanted to save Maverick, but not with Bandits in the air.
The silence was killing you.
“Rooster, those bandits are closing. We can't go back.” You heard Phoenix say. “Rooster, he's gone.”
It hurt, but Bob was probably right. He was gone. He was with Goose. “Maverick's gone.”
Maverick had sacrificed himself for Rooster. Your best friend had sacrificed himself for your son….
Your heart began to pound as you realized Bradley was flying back. He wanted to save Mav. You wanted to scream at him to get his ass back to the ship, but you couldn't. He wouldn't even listen.
The not knowing was killing you. Not being able to do anything. Being stuck on the ship while your son was out there fighting for his life.
After minutes that felt like hours you heard the words you only wished to hear in your darkest nightmares.
“Dagger Two is hit.”
Rooster was hit.
You could barely hold it together anymore. You wanted to scream, you wanted to cry, but you had to hold it in.
“Dagger Two, come in. Dagger Two, do you copy? Dagger Two, come in.”
You were horrified. You might have just lost your only child and your best friend. Now you were alone.
One Minute turned into two. Two into five. Five into ten. Nothing. No reply, no sign of life.
You had no idea what the hell was going on in the tower, they weren't talking to you. Not one word. Was there a trace of the two? Were they still alive? You didn't know and it was one of the worst things you've ever felt.
After what felt like an eternity, you were finally given permission to launch and fly to their rescue after they had detected Rooster's ESAT.
Soon you saw them, they were involved in an air fight and obviously losing. You managed to bring your jet behind the enemy's plane without bringing any attention to yourself. That was the way you got your callsign. You were a Shadow, you could easily follow any planes without being noticed.
Just as they were about to shoot down Maverick and Rooster, you fired a shot and hit the bandit. The bandit was down and they were save. They were finally save and back with you.
You flew right through the smoke towards the F-14, you had never been happier to see a jet.
“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. This is your savior speaking.”
There was a grin on your face, you had never been so glad.
“Hey, mom, you look good.”
“I am good, Bradley. I'm very good.”
“I'll see you back on Deck.” You flew back and were the first to land. You got out of the Jet and watched everybody put up a net to catch the F-14.
Once they were back on deck you didn't hesitate one second to run towards them. “Bradley!” You shouted.
Everybody came running towards them, cheering and congratulating them.
Maverick got out and first went to Hondo, while Bradley came running towards you.
“Oh, my boy, I thought I lost you. I thought you were gone.” You sobbed and took him into your arms.
“You're not getting rid of me easily, Mom.” He laughed and hugged you tightly, not letting you go for a while. “You're a hero, Bradley. I'm so so proud of you. Your- your dad would be so proud, god-” You teared up.
“I know Mom, I know.”
You parted from him so he could celebrate with the others. The other Daggers immediately came to him.
Once again you could swear there were looks between Jake and Rooster, but you didn't mention anything.
“Captain Mitchell! Captain Mitchell!” You then saw Bradley approach Pete. Without hesitating, Maverick pulled him into a hug. A hug that meant the World.
“Thank you for saving my life.”
“It's what my dad would've done.”
________________________________________
Days after the mission the whole Dagger Squad was sitting in the Hard Deck together, having drinks and cracking jokes. Bradley, of course, sat down at the piano and sang once again. The whole Bar chimed in and sang “Great balls of fire” with him.
“Oh! You're fine, so kindGot to tell this world that you're mine, mine, mine, mine!”
You could have sworn he took a glance towards Jake during that line.

Despite being head over heels in love with Ice and Mav's dynamic in the original Top Gun, the same dynamic in Top Gun Maverick with Rooster and Hangman never worked for me. This is my attempt at voicing why:
DISCLAIMER: This was not created with the intention to offend anybody who ships Hangster/Sereshaw. It is simply my understanding of their relationship, and why it doesn't appeal to me. Opinions are like the butthole, everybody has their own. By all means, continue shipping them if you want to, this is only for fun.
Hangman and Rooster's entire relationship is based on resentment.
Unlike Mav and Ice, they have history. There's something from the past that lingers in all of their interactions, poisoning all of their words and actions.
Hangman is frustrated with Rooster, all the time. Of course, he banters with everyone, Phoenix about her gender, Bob about his callsign, but those are more 5th Grader Playground insults than anything. It's different with Rooster, and not in a good way.
When it comes to Rooster, Hangman goes straight to insult his character. He doubts his judgement, insults his way of being and flying, prods about how he needs to change if he wants to fly the mission.
With Ice, he was criticizing Maverick, not insulting him. Hangman is both criticizing AND insulting Rooster because he perceives him in a less that ideal light.
Hangman doesn't understand why Rooster flies the way that he does, and doesn't try to either. He just sees it as wrong and doesn't think twice about it. He goes straight to insulting him because he thinks that it's wrong, and that it's something about Rooster that needs to be fixed.
And Rooster is constantly exasperated because of it. Hangman prods, and jabs, and insults Rooster, but it never works. The more Hangman pokes, the more Rooster closes up, frustrated. He gets angry, pissed and becomes much LESS inclined to listen to anything Hangman is saying.
Rooster doesn't work well under pressure. And that's the only way Hangman operates.
Throughout the movie, Rooster doesn't listen to Hangman once. He might've been right about Rooster being too slow, but it only fell on deaf ears (not to say that he was right to bring up Goose's death, he was defo wrong about that one). All it causes is strife, to the point where Rooster almost punches Hangman because of how infuriating he was to him.
The entire movie, Hangman provoked Rooster to get him to stop being the way he is, because he sees it as a flaw of character. And it doesn't work.
Rooster only drops his need for playing it safe when Maverick tells him to 'Not think, just do'. Because Mav only gave him a push in the right direction, not throw in his face all of his flaws.
(Side note: This is also the reason Rooster doesn't listen to Mav in their argument, because he thinks Maverick was insulting his way of being by saying he wasn't ready. On the mission, by selecting Rooster as his wingman, he recognizes that he is ready, and that he trusts him with his life. Making him more inclined to listen to Mav once in the canyon.)
A relationship where one person is constantly frustrated by the other and the other is constantly exasperated by the former doesn't work.
Because that's how they are, and that's how they function, and it isn't going to change.
Rooster isn't going to stop frustrating Hangman because that's how he works, and Hangman isn't going to stop making Rooster exasperated because he doesn't know how else to voice his feelings.
I can see where the ship comes from, because obviously. Their homoerotic tension could be seen from space. I totally believe that they might have had a fling in the past that ended badly, and that they possibly could have hooked up at some point in the movie in the 'Hate Sex' vein of things. I just don't think it'd be anything beyond that.
They wouldn't work in the long haul, is what I'm trying to say.
They're too similar, and too different at the same time.
They're both hothead stubborn motherfuckers that couldn't come to an agreement if they tried.
And you might show me the scene where Hangman is happy about Dagger 2 hitting the target, and him being absolutely devastated when the same hornet is shot down. I recognize it, it demonstrates care. Hangman cares.
Thing is, that doesn't change anything that I said prior to that.
It's possible to resent, despise, be bitter towards and irritated by someone and still care about them. It's possible to hate them and still care. Hate them, and feel like you don't hate them all the time. Human emotion is a funny thing like that, nothing is ever black and white, always varying shades of gray.
Just because they hate each other (and yes, that is the reading I have on them, doesn't stop them from being horny fuckers about each other tho) doesn't mean they want the other dead.
I believe it's similar to the sentiment of "I hope you get everything you ever wished for, and that I never hear a word about it". Similar, but not the same, in a way I do not know how to describe. Thus, I used that to give the same vibe.
I can't see any future for them, in any shape or form. They hold too many grudges against each other, and both of them have a tendency of holding on to old (bad) feelings far too strongly. Even if they work through whatever problems they have now, new ones would emerge and they would go through the same process again and again and again.
That isn't healthy nor stable. It's not what either of them should strive for in a relationship. With that, I'd probably say that both of them need stable people that hold logic to high regard, and that are easy going (I say that in general terms, with no one specific in mind for either of them).
All that being said, this is my opinion. This is how I view them, and understand their relationship. They don't work for me because I see no logical way they could.
If they work for you, that's great! Enjoy the air gays 2.0 to your hearts contentment, I'm happy for you.
This was just a fun analysis of my vision, with no intention to diminish anyone who might enjoy them.

Feral Ice going batshit crazy when Maverick goes missing, but is really taken by another organisation. Said organisation shits themselves when a fleet of keen, angry pilots who maverick basically unofficially adopted. I'm thinking a whole scene of jets, helicopters, and then there's an all out dog fight.
Even Cyclone isn't happy about Maverick getting taken. Just imagine how pissed and scared Rooster would be. Like the man can hold a grudge like tomorrow, and if someone takes his Uncle Mav, well good luck buddy, because he just got the man back and he's not taking any risks that has a chance of losing him again.
Anyways it's 2am and I just had a totally badass idea where feral iceman goes absolutely crazy trying to find Maverick. It sounded cooler in my head I think

made up fic title (kinda… it’s also a song☺️)
“Meeting the Master”
Thanks G! 💖 I'm not familiar with the song, but I still love the title! (sorry if I went a little nuts with this one 😅)
Jake wiped his hands on his slacks for the third time in the last five minutes. Tilting his head side-to-side, he rolled his shoulders to crack his neck. Then he wiped his hands on his slacks once again. Bradley reached over and took his boyfriend's (sweaty) hand and linked fingers with him. "Hey, it's okay. This isn't a big deal." "Not for you, it isn't," Jake muttered under his breath. "It's bad enough I had to find out years later that your 'dad' was the Maverick. And now this! Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Bradley shrugged. "You didn't ask. Besides, how was I supposed to know you had some weird hero-worship thing for him?" "It's not... I just admire him greatly, that's all. And yes, maybe I had his picture in my dorm back at the academy for inspiration but there's nothing wrong with that." The look on Bradley's face said differently. "Dude..." Before Jake could try and explain himself further, the door to the office opened. Jake dropped Bradley's hand as he snapped to attention, though he was quivering as adrenaline coursed through his veins. Maverick was the first to exit the office. He took one look at Jake's stiff, sweaty appearance and shook his head, chuckling to himself. Then he stepped to the side and Jake's heart leaped in his chest. Standing before him was the man he had looked up to since the day he had decided he wanted to be a Navy pilot. Hell, he was half the reason Jake had made that decision. Though the man was older and more frail-looking than the pictures Jake was used to, there was no denying it was the same person. Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky. Bradley stepped forward and embraced the man. "Hey, Uncle Ice. It's been a while." Admiral Kazansky nodded with a smile as he returned the hug. Bradley had warned Jake about his uncle's cancer and how even though he managed to survive it, he had lost the use of his voice. But voice or no voice, Jake was still not positive this wasn't all just a dream. Bradley took a step back and motioned towards Jake. "I want you to meet my boyfriend, Jake. You might have heard about him, callsign Hangman?" Recognition lit up Admiral Kazansky's face, and he gave an impressed nod. Jake almost passed out right then and there. But his lightheadedness only increased as the man extended his hand. With far more enthusiasm than Jake intended, he grabbed the Admiral's hand and shook it vigorously. "Admiral... Mr. Iceman.... Sir. I can't tell you what an honor it is to meet you! You've been my idol for as long as I've been flying and I just... Wow! I still can't believe I'm meeting the master!" Admiral Kazansky smiled and raised an eyebrow at Maverick who was across the room leaning against the wall with his arms folded across his chest. Rolling his eyes, Mav muttered, "Yeah, I heard him, Ice. But don't get a big head. The kid almost pissed his pants the first time I met him too." "Actually," Bradley chuckled. "He threw you out on your ass at the Hard Deck the first night you met." Admiral Kazansky's hand tightened around Jake's for a moment and Jake froze, horrified at what the Admiral must be thinking about him. However, the Admiral's face broke out into a playful grin and he began to silently laugh, his steel blue eyes shining with joy. He slapped Jake on the back before wrapping his arms around both Bradley and Jake's shoulders and guiding them into his office. It was official. This was the greatest day of Jake's life.
send me a made-up fic title and i’ll tell you what i would write to go with it

I also just imagine boxer Bradley having anger issues and Jake helping him through them 🥲
Bradley's pissed cuz Mav has blackballed him from the championship league. He thinks Jake is uptight and stuck up at first, but he starts to like him. At one point, Jake finds him at an underground fight and tries to drag him out, pissed, but then someone smarts off about Jake and Bradley pulls his shirt off and jumps into the ring. Jake drags him out of there after and tells him how stupid that was as he ices his knuckles. Jake opens up about his own family, how his life isn't so perfect. Bradley teaches him how to box, helps him get some of his own rage out, and over time, Jake teaches him how to let go of some of that. They learn how to understand each other as they fall in love. It turns out Jake is tougher than people think, and Bradley is softer.

Tailspin | Chapter 3
Maverick x Female!Reader
Hey guys! Hope you're enjoying the story! Lmk if I should keep posting it here haha
Summary: The story of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell’s wild descent into love with none other than his number one rival’s girlfriend.
CW: love triangle, emotional infidelity, SLOW burn
Chapter 2, Chapter 1
Tumblr media
The bell on the door rings and you look up. Maverick walks into the bar with Goose on his tail. He stops to look around and, when he sees you, he grins and takes his aviators off his face, hooking them into the collar of his t-shirt. He strides over to where you're sitting, grabbing one of the chairs from a neighboring table because there aren't any more at yours, and twists it around so that he could lean his chest into the back of the seat.
"Fancy seeing you here," he says, smirking.
You stare at him in disbelief because he's completely ignoring the fact that Tom is sitting right next to you.
"Are you lost, Maverick?" Tom asks coldly.
Maverick looks over at him as though he's just noticed his presence. "Oh hey, Ice," he says. "Nice flying today. A bit sluggish but executed with style." He winks at Tom while the latter watches him levelly.
"Don't you have a commander to piss off somewhere?" Tom bites back.
Maverick waves a hand just as Goose pulls up a chair. "Been there, done that," he responds.
Tom is watching Goose sink into the seat beside Maverick and reach over to grab a couple of French fries from Slider's plate. Tom shakes his head. "This isn't a soup kitchen, boys. Why don't you get your own table?"
Goose raises his eyebrows, inserting the fries into his mouth. "We're here for the company," he says, chewing.
Maverick laughs and Tom rolls his eyes. "You ever get sick of your partner fucking up and the Lieutenant Commander taking it out on you, Goose?" Tom asks derisively. "I mean, this was, what? The third time you guys have been grounded since showing up?"
"Second," Goose corrects him. "And no." He gives Maverick a clap on the back. "I love my partner."
Tom shakes his head. "Why'd you bother coming at all if you're not going to take this seriously?"
"Oh, I'm taking this seriously, Ice," Maverick responds, fighting to keep a straight face. "I'm taking this very seriously." His eyes slide to meet yours across the table and the left side of his mouth curls upward ever so slightly.
You sink deeper into your seat, feeling your face heating up under Maverick's persistent gaze.
"I'm getting a beer," Slider says, getting out of his seat and tapping Tom on the shoulder. "Want anything?"
"I'm good, thanks," Tom responds, still watching Maverick intently.
"Hey, Iceman," Goose leans into the table, trying to catch Tom's eye. "I've got a question for you."
Tom shifts his gaze from Maverick to Goose, his expression remaining unenthusiastic at best. "Better be a good one," he responds icily.
Goose flashes a broad grin. "That 7-G climb you pulled today – that was a stunner, my friend."
Tom narrows his eyes but doesn't respond. He's waiting for Goose to get to the point.
"Was one hell of a hop!" Goose proclaims.
Tom raises his eyebrows. "I thought you had a question."
"I do, I do." Goose nods vehemently. "Come, let me buy you a beer." Goose stands up, stretching his legs. "I want to talk about how you lost those bogeys today."
Tom lets out an irritable sigh but rises nonetheless.
"7-G's, you hear, Mav?" Goose says excitedly.
"I've pulled 9," Maverick responds nonchalantly.
"In what?" Tom exclaims in outrage, sitting back down.
Goose rolls his eyes. "Ice, the beer."
Maverick wiggles his eyebrows at Tom. "F-14, of course."
Tom glares at Maverick, but allows himself to be pulled into a standing position by Goose. "And is that fighter in the scrapyard now?" he asks scornfully as Goose tries to lead him away from the table.
Maverick shrugs. "Not my problem."
Tom shakes his head at him while Goose practically shoves him toward the bar.
Once Tom and Goose have turned their backs, Maverick winks at you with a sly smile.
"So," you say, "does Goose really want to hear about Tom's hop? Or is he just a really good wingman?"
Maverick laughs. "Goose's always got my back."
You nod. "Sounds like you guys make a good team."
"You have no idea," he responds. "Don't know what I'd do without him."
Maverick is watching you steadily and your heart performs a series of acrobatic stunts not unlike Tom's fighter plane earlier in the day. The feeling makes you queasy, considering your boyfriend is mere steps away at the bar with Goose. You decide to lighten the mood. "9-Gs in a Tomcat," you say. "Is that supposed to impress me?"
He laughs. "Does it?"
You shrug. "Honestly? Means absolutely nothing to me."
"Ever flown before? In a fighter?"
You shake your head. "And I don't intend to."
Maverick raises his eyebrows. "Iceman's never taken you out?"
You let out a wry chuckle. "It's not for me."
Maverick studies your face for a moment, then replies, "You won't know until you try."
"Well," you say. "Lucky for me it's against the rules to offer civilians joyrides in military aircraft."
"Come on," Maverick urges. "You've got aviation in your name. You've got to try it at least once."
"And get my boyfriend kicked out of the program? No, thank you."
Maverick's mouth moves into a crooked smirk. "Who said anything about your boyfriend?"
You give him a disapproving look. "Aren't you in enough trouble?"
"Never enough," he responds.
"Have you ever considered that being a cocky ass makes you an unreliable pilot?"
Maverick shifts his jaw. "You've been talking to Iceman."
You shrug. "Well, he is my boyfriend."
"Sometimes, I forget."
"Must be all those G's you're pulling."
He laughs. "So, how 'bout it?" he says. "I can show you what real speed feels like."
You baulk at the onslaught of exhilaration that courses through your body when his eyes lock onto yours. He's not taking no for an answer. "Tom would kill me."
Maverick shrugs. "No one has to know."
"Right," you say. "You think you can just waltz into Hangar Number One and steal a plane without anyone noticing?"
Maverick winces. "Borrow," he clarifies. "And yes, yes I can."
You tear your gaze away from him, shaking your head. "Why?"
Maverick leans forward over the table, the leather of his jacket squeaking as he shifts. "Because you look bored."
You scoff. "I'm not bored."
"You sure?" He seems unconvinced.
It's getting harder for you to contain a smile. Maverick tilts his head to the side, eyeing you like he knows exactly what you're thinking. You take a deep breath. "Maybe a little."
Maverick chuckles. "I knew it."
"Not enough to warrant borrowing a multimillion dollar government vehicle."
You look over to the bar where Goose is trying to keep your boyfriend occupied with exaggerated swings of his hands as he details various aerial maneuvers.
"What're you doing with a jackass like Tom Kazansky, anyway?" Maverick asks, bringing your attention back.
You turn to look at him, taken aback by his question. "As opposed to a jackass like you?" you ask.
He grins, swiping his thumb over his lips. "Let me buy you a drink," he says.
You shake your head, trying to refrain from laughing. "You aren't too familiar with rejection, are you?"
He leans in closer, until his face is just about five inches from yours and then replies in a low tone. "Never heard of it."

i think if you hear whispers of jake's "reputation", it's usually people being like wow i'll never find someone like him :( he's so caring and sweet and attentive and he offered me a ride home and is an amazing cuddler and-
and hearing whispers of bradley is wow what a dickhead. you know he didn't even ask if i came. he didn't even call me back. etc.
idk why everyone decided that jake was such a fuckboy like no!! he's actually a little loverboy!! y'all don't know him like us (insane jake girlies ❤️)
Jake girlies are truly insane. I will give y'all that. Jake has just always been that character that there is more to him than meets the eye (which is a nod towards glen and his acting because that's what a good actor will do). He's very misunderstood and it's clear to see in that interaction at the Hard Deck, or when he tells Rooster to "give 'em hell", or when his face drops when he isn't named apart of the daggers for the mission, or when he has to sit and listen to his wingman get shot out of the sky and can't do a single thing about it. I love the headcannon that says Jake went against direct order to get to Maverick and Rooster, because it would be a Jake thing to do.
Bradley, on the other hand, has shown how much of a dick he can be. I mean, blatantly disrespecting his commander by ignoring him on the flight deck? Telling him no one will mourn him when he dies? Saying that he was the primary reason his father died in an ACCIDENT? which to me, honestly, I give Mav props for not decking the brat in the face. Bradley knows that Maverick carries around the guilt of Goose's death every single day, even though, he didn't do anything to cause it. Bradley just had to say something to hit below the built because he has been so angry and pissed that Mav pulled his papers. But the dude ended up becoming an aviator anyway.

Had some kind of idea where Goose and Carole don't meet when he's in the Academy. She doesn't move to Annapolis and meet him, instead she studies English at the University of Texas. Goose's life goes as normal, he becomes a RIO, meets Mav and starts his flight training, ending up in Corpus Christi. This is where Carole's family lives, and after she graduates, is celebrating. She gets very drunk and ends up in a bar where a blond guy with a pornstache and aviators is playing her favourite song on the piano, this is obviously Goose. They have a drunken hook up and she wakes up to see him gone and only knowing his callsign.
A few weeks later, she doesn't get her period and finds herself having weird cravings and feeling sick a lot. Her sister tells her to take a pregnancy test, she rolls her eyes but does one anyway and find out that she's pregnant. She doesn't know how to find Goose, she only knows his callsign after all, so becomes a single mother.
Goose's life goes mostly the same. He still ends up at Top Gun, even gets together with Slider, and still goes through the accident on Hop 31. He does survive, but the story ends up on the news. Carole, reading the newspaper, sees a story about a RIO called Goose getting into an accident and connects the dots.
She writes to him, invites him to Corpus Christi if he wants to figure out if he has a son. The Top Gun guys are sceptical but go. Carole doesn't bring Bradley straight away, she says to Goose she wants him to do a paternity test because she knows her baby boy is sensitive and doesn't want to mess up his happy life if she can help it.
Yet again, the Top Gun guys are sceptical again but Goose goes ahead. It can't hurt even if he isn't Bradley dad, right?
Carole gets the results and invites them over for dinner to get the results. But when they arrive, he's playing outside and Goose know that he's his son. He can't quite say why, but he just knows. The paternity test proves he's his son.
This is wear I run out of ideas. I do like this, I'm imagining some angst later on with Goose enjoying life as a dad but then gets called back to active duty, Carole getting pissed because he can just go as he pleases but she's always been there, maybe her regreting bringing him into Bradley's life and Slider eventually talking to her. I don't know

More HC's! What pet names? What are their usual arguments about? What does Hangman's family think of Rooster? What does Mav think of the whole thing? Anything else you wanna add! I love reading this stuff lol
more headcanons coming up boss! fresh off the press!!!
Rooster loves calling Hangman sweetheart and baby... Hangman will call Rooster baby but he doesn't quite say it in the same way. if that makes sense....... Hangman occasionally calls Rooster 'Big Boy' but let's not talk about that
their arguments are either because one of them did something risky and reckless and terrifying in the jet/on a mission OR because Rooster left his towel on the bathroom floor again. there's no in between. honestly they're the type of couple who just sort enjoy arguing? there's never really any heat behind it. if they're actually pissed with each other I feel like they'd close off and just not talk
I feel like Hangman's parents think Rooster is a busty blonde named Kelly. Hangman doesn't strike me as an Out and Proud kind of bisexual guy......... also for fic reasons his parents are kind of assholes. sorry to Hangman
Mav is... honestly kind of thrilled. once Hangman is sure that Mav isn't going to kill him he starts calling him pops again (half of that is because it's nice to have a father figure approve of his relationship choices) and once Mav realises that Hangman would kill anyone with his bare hands if they touched Rooster he's cool with it. also he knows how isolated Rooster feels sometimes so knowing he Has Someone is a weight off of Mav's shoulders
quick fire bonuses: it makes Hangman smile every time Rooster sings in the shower. over time they develop a creepy sixth sense for each other and are basically unbeatable on missions/communicate with like. an eyebrow twitch and a moustache wiggle. Hangman encourages Rooster to take more risks and Rooster makes Hangman (slightly) less of a dick
OKAY I'LL STOP! but god. these two have me in a chokehold I really could go on and on and on

au in which Mav and Goose fall out of everything in their life when Goose survives hop 31. It's gradual, because Mav tries to stick around after Goose is good enough to teach at Top Gun and in ever naval flight class the brass can think about, but Mav isn't one for teaching and the sky perpetually calls him. He wants to be up there more than anything and Goose can't, not in a jet at least, and when he pisses of the new Admiral on the base it almost a relieve to go back in the middle of the ocean. Because Mav hopes he will stop feeling so guilty towards Goose and all the life he relegate him to.
From there it's a step far away from each other every day to the point Mav can't remember the last time he talked to Goose or a news about Bradley didn't come from Carole. It hurts but it's more of a dull pain you feel when you go around to poke yellow bruises than actual pain.
They see each other after what it feel like months but it's actually almost two decades later, when Mav is back on the American soil, a wedding band on his hand and a husband who, sometimes, it still calling him Mave-rick like when they were at Top Gun. Bradley is on the stage, getting his pair of golden wings, Carole and Goose are between the people and when Carole sees him her smiles is as big as the sun, Goose's smile is smaller and he nods with his head and Mav nods back. They call out for Bradley's name and they all look back towards the stage. There will be time to say hi to them later, with the photos. And maybe, there will be time for a beer with Goose too, a hug from Carole and a ring to show off.
There is going to be time and events and maybe they will go back to be as closed as they were or maybe they won't, but Mav is greatful that they will have the chance to see how it will go.

Oh no, I decided! I'd like to know more about the whole scene in ch17 where Wolf and Wood come to help with Bradley!! Please
OKAY SO BUCKLE UP EVERYONE I'm finally answering these directors cut questions because it's helping me process the upcoming chapter scenes that I need to write.
Spoilers under the cut about this, it will touch on parts of upcoming chapters but not at length, so read at your own risk!
Basically Tom is on a carrier right and he's very cranky about it but he also still loves Pete (that man says what he means and means what he says, and he does love Pete even if he's currently irritated with him). So Tom swans onto the carrier cranky af (you'll see yourself in CH 18 just you wait) but Slider is a Meddling Meddler Who Meddles. He makes his usual phone calls and then and decides to call the boys, who tell him that Pete called about Bradley not talking, so then he goes hmm interesting and asks them what they're going to do it about it.
Wood: why do we have to do anything about it Wolf: not my circus not my monkeys Slider: i'm not there to knock some sense into him and neither is Tom so that leaves you idiots Wood: no seriously why is this my problem Slider: i'm making it your problem Wolf: this is because they're fucking isn't it Slider: so what if it is bradley's not talking so fucking do something about it or I will break your face
Fast forward to their week and then they just kind of blow it off, but then Slider calls again and tells them he'll break their legs if they don't go help his nephew (he gets attached easily okay what can I say) which of course leads to them going over there because Bradley is asking for them (after his week of Not Talking To Anyone) (he's more like Pete than he realizes but I digress).
Only Wood and Wolf only have half the information right?? They only really have Slider's intel, which is half-hearted from Ice because that man does not want people in his personal business and is busy being a cranky bastard instead of talking about his feelings (head knocking to follow) but anyways, essentially, they go over there thinking that Pete did something dumb.
To be fair to them, operating under what they know is that Mav can be impulsive and Tom is very much the opposite as a general rule (in fact in their friend group he's the one that thinks things to death and drives them all crazy). They saw the impulsiveness seat-of-your-pants'ness in Top Gun, they saw it in class, they saw it in the sky. They know Pete but they don't really know him all the way yet, they got to know him a little and then Goose died and they got the watered down version of him, and they've all heard stories (see: Ice's "yeah, I've heard that about you" in the bar about Mav working alone).
Naval Aviators are like any other profession and gossip like a bunch of old hens, is the thing, so they think they know what's wrong only they don't. And because they are young cocky men they're convinced they've got it figured out which is why they go in with the "Mitchell is being an idiot again" angle even though that's not it at all and Ice is going to be pissed at them for assuming so, but that's a whole other can of worms (and precisely why Tom prefers to handle his own problems and not get his idiot friends involved).
SO long story short, they show up at Pete's house (they weren't actually stonewalling him, Pete's anxiety is just at an all-time high and he's not sleeping which is making him irrational) and see that Pete is clearly and obviously Not Okay and proceed to freak out because a) they know Ice and Pete are fucking and b) they are freaking the fuck out because they should have been there days ago, and c) Bradley is obviously struggling and they were just too busy to notice/didn't realize how serious Slider was when he phoned them about it because haha sure kids don't talk right!! Only they actually realize oh they were serious when they said Bradley didn't talk for seven days and that's... a bit of a problem.
Then they feel guilty, especially Wood, because he ignored Pete just in the standard I'm busy (like when you see a friend called and mean to call them back and then it's Saturday and you don't know where the time went kind of thing). It definitely wasn't intentional, but he feels guilty because he does think of Pete as a friend, but he knows a bit about what Tex is doing and tries to apply his own life experiences of being not-straight to Pete's situation, and assumes he's freaking out about the gay thing, only that's not really it at all either.
Wolf then swans in with dick jokes because he's Wolf, and Wood doesn't really get to finish the conversation, but they'll talk more just the two of them and Wood will realize that it's a lot more complicated, and that Pete didn't actually fuck up and he would have done the same to save Wolf if it came down to it even if it meant Wolf never talked to him again because that's what you do when you love someone. And Wood is thinking about all of this during that scene, but he'd distracted by Wolf acting like a ten-year-old boy and then Mav brushes it off and he lets him because he can see he's uncomfortable, but it bothers him for days hence the park outing when he definitely discreetly pins him to a bench and makes him talk about it while Wolf howls and chases Bradley around the play structure and gets stuck in a slide because he's An Idiot but Wood loves him anyway.

Want you to stay.
Bradley Bradshaw x OC!Kazansky
Hello angels ! I had some ideas for a story about TPM, don't know if it will worth something but there it is ! For the need of the story the timeline concerning Ice has been a bit changed. Opinions are always appreciated and welcomed. Enjoy! x
Plot : He has been her brightest and darkest days, now that she had finally moved on but he's back, she's going to experiment once again the rollercoaster of love.
Part two
Warnings : mentions of disease and death. Fucking fluffy father/daughter moment. Grammatical mistakes (sorry), english isn't my first language.
Taglist : Maybe you ? Ask to be added
Tumblr media
Part one.
As she approached him the beats of her heart accelerated gradually, she felt a wave of unpleasant heat to cross her arms and a weight to compress her chest. "It is only stress." she said to herself coming to place herself to face him and her vision became hazy. He was smiling at her and she tried to dissimulate her anguish, by smiling to him the most naturally possible, however this last didn’t really gain her eyes.
A few weeks before.
"Mav? What brings you here?" She questioned her uncle surprised to see him here. She walked down the few steps that separated the kitchen from the large oval living room, a dish towel in her hands, wiping the dish her mother had just washed.
The dark-haired man turned around at the mention of his name and smiled as he saw his niece walking towards him.
"Maureen. Your father asked to see me."
"Um, it's never good when he summons someone, who did you piss off again?" She asked to tease him, which made him smile and frown in surprise. "Why does everyone keep asking me that?"
"Because everyone knows you."
Sarah, who had just finished washing the dishes, came up behind her daughter, put her hand on her shoulder and greeted Pete with a hug.
"How is he?"
"He's tired, but his condition remains constant."
Maureen, who did not like to hear about her father's illness, even though she was constantly aware of it and saw his condition deteriorate day after day, turned on her heels to return to the kitchen to finish wiping the dishes. Seeing him like this saddened her enough and made her fear of his loss, which was inevitably coming closer, growing up continuously. It was painful enough to see him like that, so she preferred to avoid talking or hearing about it.
Maverick watched his niece turn on her heels and then gave his friend's wife a sympathetic look.
"He's waiting for you in his office."
Sarah joined her daughter in the kitchen as she finished putting away the clean dishes. Her mother came to stand behind her, putting a hand on her back, the young woman coming to put hers on the work surface.
"Do you know why he asked Mav to come?"
"I don't know no, maybe to talk to him about work, it's not necessarily the worst."
"It's become constant, every thing makes think the worst. I hate to see Navy men come through here, it's like he's settling his last cases before he leaves."
"I know, sweetie." Said Sarah, coming to place a lock of her daughter's hair behind her ear and then sliding her hand over her shoulder and then her back, gently stroking her back with circular motions, something she had always done to comfort Maureen since she was a little girl.
"But Pete is not just any man, he may have brought him in for no reason relative to the Navy."
"In that case he wouldn't have locked himself in his office with him."
"Um." Both women turned to face Maverick who was standing in the kitchen doorway. "It's nothing to worry about, your father just called me in to talk about an assignment. Did you know that he was the one who brought me back to North Island?"
The young woman shook her head negatively, wondering why.
"He's asking me to be the instructor for the best pilots, for a sensitive mission."
"You? Instructor?" Said she letting out a slight laugh that caused the same reaction in the pilot.
Maverick decided to keep a certain someone's return under wraps, it wasn't his job to do that. He put an arm around his niece's shoulders, pressing her close to him, hugged Sarah goodbye and left the kitchen before exiting the house.
Hanging the tea towel on one of the kitchen cupboard door handles, Maureen made her way to her father's office, knocked twice to let her father know she was coming in and rushed into the room, only to find him as usual, sitting at his large desk in front of his computer. She stood next to him, placing a hand on the headrest of the leather chair Ice was sitting in. He gave his daughter a gentle smile, which she returned.
"What did you have to do with uncle Mav?"
Although she was not related to Pete Mitchell, he had been so much a part of her life, through his friendship with her father, that growing up he had become an uncle for her. He typed on his keyboard and a message appeared on the screen. "Work." He paused before he went any further, looking concerned, as if he was fumbling to tell her something. She noticed his look and put a hand on his shoulder.
"What are you not telling me Admiral Kazansky?"
With some hesitation he rested his hands on his keyboard. "We had to recall the best pilots for this mission." She frowned slightly, why was he so concerned about this?
"That's what Mav told me yes. Yet it seems to worry both of you."
Ice glanced at his daughter who didn't seem to understand.
"You know I don't know them as well as you both could. To me, all the pilots coming out of Top Gun are the best, that's what they are taught." She chuckled which earned Tom a smile. He glanced out the window facing his office before opening a file on his computer screen and displaying an organization chart with photographs of the pilots. She smiled as she recognized some very familiar faces before her eyes fell on one in particular and her smile slowly evaporated. Ice took his daughter's hand still resting on his shoulder in his and came to place a kiss on the back of her hand before raising his gaze to her face. He had been reluctant to announce to her the return of the one who had in the past been at the origin of her greatest happiness but also of her greatest suffering. But she would have eventually learned his return and he would not have wanted her to be angry at him or at Maverick for having been informed and not having said anything to her.
She quickly pulled herself together and began to smile at her father.
"These are the best yes. This mission must be very special. But with uncle Mav as their instructor they can only succeed."
She leaned forward to place a kiss on her father's forehead.
"Try to rest, don't push yourself too hard."
He nodded and had a small laugh before starting to cough, he let go of Maureen's hand to come and cover his mouth, the hand of the girl falling loosely and coming to crash on her thigh. Her heart tightened at the image of her father so weak, she took the glass of water which was on the desk and knelt beside him, tending him the glass which he took a smile which wanted to be reassuring, but both knowing that it was only facade.
"I love you dad."
He looked at her full of tenderness, seeing all the faces of his little girl in front of him, from the first day he had held her in his arms to the accomplished young woman beside him.
"I love you too princess." He managed to articulate with difficulty, placing his hand on her cheek. She placed hers on top of it. "You and your brother are my greatest pride." He took a moment before continuing. "That and winning the Top Gun cup over your uncle." He said making them both burst out laughing.
Every second of every minute, of every hour of every day shortened the time she could still spend with her father. Seeing him so smiling and strong in his illness made her proud, yet terrified that one day she would have to say goodbye sooner than expected.
The next day Maureen went to the Fighter Weapon School in the afternoon to surprise her friends. She had texted her uncle about the day's schedule, choosing the best time to surprise them. As she walked through the halls, childhood memories of when her father had brought her here made their way into her memory. Other happy but painful memories also ran through her mind and she tried to ignore them. An excitement rose in her stomach at the thought of seeing her friends again in a few minutes. By the time she reached the tarmac, the planes were landing and parking. She was so excited that she looked like a child on a merry-go-round. She stopped, not knowing what to say to them, how to act? She couldn't just stand in front of them like that as if they had seen each other the day before. She changed her course and continued behind the planes, she was going to take them by surprise. She stopped when she reached their planes and saw Phoenix and Bob get off first, followed by Hangman getting off the plane facing them. Once on the ground they were joined by Payback, Fanboy and Coyote. They walked as a group between the planes arguing about each other's actions during their training. She waited until they were a few feet away before coming out of hiding and following them.
"So I heard you guys are the best pilots in the United States?" She shouted loudly and distinctly enough to be heard over the various noises around them.
The first one to turn around was Mickey who let out a howl of surprise and joy, which called out to the others who didn't have time to react as he was already running over to her to hug her. Once the information had reached their brains, Bob, Phoenix and Payback followed suit. Mickey took her in his arms and lifted her off the ground, which caused her to cry out in surprise between laughs. Once on the ground, they took her in turn in their arms.
"Kazansky! What are you doing here?" Jake approached her with a huge smile on his face before hugging her.
"You obviously weren't planning on coming to say hello so I'm coming to you."
"Oh, we didn't know, we thought you were still in Virginia."  Robert's face broke down.
"I came back as soon as we found out about my father."  Until the announcement of her father's illness she lived on the Norfolk Naval Base with the man who had shared her life for two years now.
"Oh, right, we're sorry.." Said Phoenix as she placed a hand on her arm, looking sad. Maureen placed a hand on her friend's, thanking her with a thin smile.
"What's going on, why this gathering?" An approaching voice was heard, which Maureen would have recognized among a thousand. Her friends moved aside to turn to the newcomer who was struck with surprise at seeing the subject of so much animation. A silence enveloped the group. For the first time in years, since he had broken her heart, they were facing each other again.
"Bradley." She said in a tone that she would have liked to be controlled and neutral but only came out dry.
"Maureen?"

okay okay okay so i've been reading through your top gun posts/tags and YES ME TOO the more i think about rooster's character/characterization the less i like him. You are absolutely right that the whole fallout is so incredibly shallow, i just - see i don't necessarily blame him for being mad. pulling his papers was kind of a dick move, at least since it seems like rooster's dream job was aviator? i'd also be kinda pissed. (also how old is he at this point? 17-18? that age isn't exactly known for common sense.) BUT it didn't need to turn into a twenty year radio silence with a fuckton of outright viciousness on rooster's part. like, okay, you don't like maverick, but that doesn't mean that you can tell him that no one is going to mourn him when he dies. you definitely can't tell him that the first person who ever believed in him shouldn't have. that's cruel. full stop. (and we all know carole taught him better.)
tl;dr, yeah, the emotional immaturity that rooster is written with, both in canon and in fic, is incredibly annoying and the more i see it the more i want to scream
you get it! firstly i'd like to preface this by saying i just don't care enough about rooster or any of the new people to debate this with anyone. in fact i wouldnt care about him at all if he didnt piss me off in that one scene every time I rewatch the movie and if folks didn't keep inserting him in my icemav* to 1. make maverick grovel and/or 2. use ice to either validate maverick's position or rooster's (ice was never, in canon, involved in that shitshow but everyone seems to have forgotten that).
with that cleared up that's exactly it. everything you said. to be clear i dont think he's an irredeemable dick. I just think he's a dick for a lot longer than he needs to be. the twenty years of silence is bad and unjustifiable enough but that shit he says to mav is so...
in some fairness to him he's just been through a high stress situation when he says it but i'm a big believer in 'you don't say things in anger that you aren't already thinking'.
so in addition to just being insanely cruel in using his father's death like that against the man who literally stepped up to be a surrogate father to rooster because his father meant so much to him, his metric for a meaningful life is so ???? painfully tedious??
like you are in the military?? and you think if someone doesn't have a wife and children to mourn them they have nobody? you think like this in the military?? this man really is the straightest character in both top guns combined by a very long mile beating both admiral cain (an icemav conspiracy theorist) and admiral simpson (an iceman simp) to the spot.
also it just makes me laugh every time because he's completely off mark as well -maverick has lived an incredible life. he has people who obviously love and respect him. the whole darkstar crew, hondo especially. there's ice whos been his friend for longer than he hasn't known ice at this point. i'm sure there's more people. he's built a dream home for himself, surrounded by things he loves most. he has the distingushed career he wanted but also on his own terms. sure he has his regrets but that's just life. rooster looking down on him for the life he's led is very lmfao.
*except for the people who have written extremely lovely, gutwrenching, in character icemav raising bradley fics, you know who you are look away this isn't about you i love and appreciate you.

Omg i need a HC gossiping with payback. CAN U IMAGINE
okay this is going to be short, but i can tell you that you and payback have these gossip sessions often
you and payback don't spend much time together throughout the day due to training and other work needing to be done
but whenever you two get a minute, you both talk about any and everything you hear going on at base
honestly you two are in on most things that happen around here
and if anyone knows any random facts or secrets about people it's one of you
during lunch, you two sat at a table in the corner of the cafeteria catching each other up on the regular things (i.e. mav shenanigans with penny, admiral cyclone fanboying about iceman to warlock, hondo gambling with some other captains about what mav will do to piss everyone off today)
but you two also spill some newfound info
"yo, i heard that jake struck out on another girl last night. so, apparently the girl he was talking to knew judo and jake being jake was trying to keep her interested so he said he was interested in learning. this leads to her teaching him some basic moves at her gym and eventually lead to her asking if he wanted to spar. unfortunately he thought she meant with him and so he said yes and she put him with her instructor's 9 year old daughter. course, you know how hangman's cockiness gets him in trouble and he pisses the 9 year old off and she completely bodies him and puts him in a chokehold in front of his date- and now she won't respond to his messages."
after reporting your findings, payback is a m e s s of laughter he is wheezing at this point
once things settles he tells you what he heard about omaha
"my story isn't as good as the one about hangman, but apparently omaha and his girl got walked in on by her parents visiting unexpectedly in their living room- to make things worse, apparently they were experimenting too"
needless to say, gossip sessions can be wild with payback

Am I doing hurt (feelings)/comfort right? While waiting for their ferris wheel ride Maverick overhears a guy saying that he wishes his father would still do stuff like this with him as well. It takes Rooster a whole night to fuck any insecurities out of Maverick but he is so good at it that he dares saying "Thanx daddy" when Maverick serves him breakfast the next day. He even sneaks one or two in when they are having sex but only right before Mav climaxes. Just to be save, you know.
Omg this is actually a concept that I haven't seen explored that much in the Roosmav fandom. I've brought it up in some of my fics and Mav has usually been horrified to be mistaken for Rooster's actual father, because it reminds him of the age gap, and Rooster has been pissed off about it, because he doesn't need another father, Goose was and always will be his father.
I'll put the rest of my reply under a read more.
And actual dadd* kink is also something that I haven't seen a lot with this ship, which is kind of surprising, because may/december ships tend to lean into it pretty heavily, but I can also understand why the Roosmav fandom might be hesitant to embrace it when so much of the harassment the shippers receive is tied to false accusations about being in*est shippers (which I don't have a problem with, but Roosmav just isn't an in*est ship). I personally would find it to be a pretty fascinating topic to explore, because both Mav and Rooster have massive daddy issues!
