Oh gosh I posted a bunch of Meka Squad headcanons back in the day... and I've got DvaMon headcanons here and here but if we're talking specifically about *D.Va's* relationships to the squad...

>While initially the whole squad was kind of artificially propped up as celebrities as part of propaganda for the MEKA program to drum up funding and international support, it soon became clear that D.Va's level of popularity with the crowd vs. the rest of the team's popularity was very much an Eric Clapton vs. The Yardbirds situation, and the Meka program was forced to lean into that more and more, putting more and more pressure on D.Va.

>There were several reasons for D.Va becoming the most popular member, and they're not all 100% good. D.Va gained a prominent following not only for her prodigy level video game skill, but also for her looks and age. Hello and Happy New Year!!! The first Saturday of a new month will soon be upon us, which means it's time for another art party hosted by my guild, Verdant Shield [VS]! But this one is extra special, because exactly one year ago was my first real foray into the world of event hosting - that's right, it's the one-year anniversary of [VS] Art Party!!!

The very first [VS] Art Party was held January 7th 2023, and was a very quiet experiment with no visible tag, announced only two days before and hidden away in an obscure corner unlikely to be noticed by non-participants. I was nervous, but with a modest 20ish-person turnout and a chill energy not dissimilar to the current EU parties, it seemed to go over great! As art trickled into the tag over the following days and weeks, people started asking about future parties, and even about hosting ones on EU servers, which I could certainly do since I already had an EU alt. And so, a monthly tradition was born!

For those unsure of what an art party is, they're a concept carried over from Final Fantasy XIV - in-game get-togethers for artists/writers/creatives of all kinds to hang out, chat, and create together! Grab your character and outfit of choice, head to the party location, find someone that inspires you, and create! Afterwards, everyone posts their creations in a shared tag (ours is #VSArtParty) so others can see, interact, and share! The tl;dr I've been repeating since the very first announcement post is simply this: the 'goal' of an art party isn't to be drawn, but to draw others, and share with the community!

Time and /squadjoin information is under the cut, but will be posted again via reblogs as the squads go up on the day of the party!

Location Information:

It's a bit tricky to get to if you're F2P, but there was no way I wasn't returning to the location of the original party - the uninstanced asura home instance in Rata Sum, the Applied Development Lab! I've even dusted off my original map image, complete with hand-drawn arrows:

This area is only accessible via flying mounts or with the use of a Teleport to Friend, so be sure to have one (or both) handy when the time comes!

Time & Squad Details:

As per usual, there will be two 3-hour parties - one on EU servers and one on NA ones - with an hour break in between. People do tend to arrive early though, and those with multiple accounts often jump directly from one to the other, so don't be surprised to see things running late and/or starting early!

The first party will be on EU servers and begin at 9pm Central European Time (aka 3pm Eastern Standard Time or 4 hours before in-game reset). I’ll be hosting on my EU alt account, so to join either /squadjoin or whisper Paranomalous Plexxi for an invite.

The second party will be on NA servers and begin at 7pm Eastern Standard Time (aka 1am Central European Time or at in-game reset). I’ll be hosting this one on my main account, so to join either /squadjoin or whisper Teekzi for an invite.

The engagement, energy, and love in these events always blows me away, and words can't express how happy I am with what we've all created together. I'm so glad that I took that first step last year and extended an invitation to what would've likely just been a throwaway guild event to the best section of the GW2 community I know. GW2 tumblr, keep being amazing. I love you guys so much, and I can't wait to see you guys on Saturday, and for many more first-Saturdays-of-the-month to come!

I'm going to share a D.VA streaming head canon.

After the events of New Bloods #5, when ever Hana streams at Gibraltar her fans start asking about Cassidy, Baptiste, Zarya and Pharah, because after they helped the MEKA squad they became somewhat popular amoung D.VA's fan base. So she ends up bringing a couple of them on stream.

It starts off with just her bringing them on to say "hi" but then it progresses to her doing full streams with them. The people who shows up the most are Cassidy and Baptiste, since they're the more relaxed of the group. Pharah and Zarya do hop on stream if it's workout/sport related, or in Pharah's case they're pranking Cassidy and/or Genji.

Cassidy also manages to get an old gaming system that he had in one of the Blackwatch bases and helps her get a game room set up in Gibraltar. The gaming system wasn't really used by him, he got it because Pharah and Genji would chill in his room most of the time and he knew they like video games so he got a gaming system set up in his room.

This leads Hana to give Cassidy a new gaming system for his room in Gibraltar, which he initally thinks is her assuming he games a lot, but he soon realises she just does what Genji and Pharah do and just chills in his room sometimes to game, sometimes she even streams in there too.

All this leads to her fans doing the fan thing and going "OMG they're such found family coded", which get's worse once Cassidy and Pharah refer to each other as siblings on stream. There are a few arguments on who's in what role but the one thing they agree on is the Cassidy and Baptiste are the parents and D.VA is their kid.

This also leads to Hana bringing Cassidy and Baptiste onto more streams together as the three of them together get the most views (she also like spending time with them). Which does fuel the Cassidy and Baptiste are Hana's parents thing going on in her fanbase.

This all comes to a head when Baptiste and Cassidy are referred to as DILF's. Cassidy, who isn't online besides his coffee blog doesn't know what the fuck that means, while Hana is laughing her ass off and Baptiste, who's best friend is Sombra, is a bit horrified. Cassidy is told by a very amused Genji what DILF means.

No one on Gibraltar ever let them live it down.

17 - A Portrait - Dva / Hana Song

Things had been stressful for the MEKA Squad since Hana had gotten herself hurt and then the announcement of Overwatch forming up again. You had finally convinced your older brother Kyung-soo Han to let you come help as a mechanic for the Mobile Exo-Force. After endless pestering and getting the rest of his squad against him, you found yourself a second home at the Busan Meka Base. Regardless of the fierce competitiveness your brother still has with the other members of the squad, you had integrated yourself amongst the squad as one of the most trusted mechanics.

You always seemed to quickly find an issue with one of their mech’s if they couldn’t figure it out on their own. You never wanted to pester the squad and wanted them to approach you with an issue. There were times where Yuna had almost refused your help until she came to you defeated the next day after she tirelessly tried to fix her navigation system. You had it fixed by lunch. It was from that point on that the team went to you less reluctantly. They leaned on you and you felt like if you needed to you could lean on them.

Everyone had been on edge as they awaited to hear news about when D.Va was to deploy to go help Overwatch in their missions in fighting off the Omnic in their current Null Sector. After Hana’s brave show fighting off the Gwishin and saving South Korea it was only a matter of time before she was thrown back into danger’s way. 

It hadn’t always been this tense. Just a few months prior the only major repairs you were doing was when the boys were off doing amazingly stupid tricks that would blow an engine. The training since the Gwishin incident had gotten more strick in the passing months. The bags under your brother’s eyes were getting darker and you felt the enthusiasm was drained from your once energetic MEKA Squad. 

It was 3 a.m. and you knew that half of the squad was probably still awake. You knew Hana and Yuna were probably up playing the new game they had been talking about a few days prior. Regardless of how tired the two were, their dedication to their hobbies outside of the force was very impressive. You had decided to take up residence at the base. The base had offered it to you at your six month mark working for them.

You figured it would be cheaper and made sense so that way when you couldn’t shut your brain off you had your outlet within a short walk down the complex. Each of the squad members also had units that they stayed in when they had their intensive training when they were just too tired to head back to their apartments in the heart of the city. You had visited Yuna and Jae-eun’s apartment for a few small get togethers and parties to celebrate small accomplishments. 

So when you had your fits of insomnia you found yourself down in the shop to either work on something you hadn’t finished before the work day ended or to clean up. You looked at the pile of projects lined up on your work desk and opted to clean up around the station. It had been a while since you cleaned up your space and you were hoping that maybe that would help the cloudiness in your head as well.

Someone had cleared their throat to let you know of their presence and you turned around to see Hana. Her hair was down and had strands sticking out in different places. It looked like she had just tumbled out of bed. It was possible that she had fallen asleep on her gaming chair again and had just suddenly woken herself up. “What are you doing awake?” She asked you with a sleepy tone.

You swooned at the girl in front of you. When Hana had come back from dealing with the Gwishin you had felt every part of your body hurt for her. When you had gotten a call from Kyung-soo you had rushed to the hospital. You had gotten pretty close with Hana in these last few months. With her being on “bed rest” she was forced to sit back and watch a lot of what was going on around her. 

She especially payed a lot of attention to your work. She would occasionally wander off to go talk to Yuna or Jae-eun. There were a few times that she went over to Kyung-soo and the two of them bickered for a good ten minutes before Captain Myung came in and told the two to separate. Hana had come over to my work station the next day and planted herself on the work desk with a huff and an adorable pout on her face. “I don’t know how the two of you are even RELATED.” She huffed and proceeded to throw glaring daggers at my brother. 

It wasn’t that the two of you hadn’t talked much before all of that happened. She was just always on the move. She liked to keep herself busy and moving. Whether it is playing her games for stream, doing MEKA Training, or even just keeping up with her exercise regime. This was the first time in a few months that she was forced to sit down and relax.

“I couldn’t sleep, figured I would make myself useful and get a head start on today’s tasks.” You explained as you had continued to sweep the broom across the floor. She walked over to your table and stared at some of the projects that cluttered your space. Sometimes she would help you optimize some features on a part for their MEKA or she just liked to look at the machinery. Her hands were constantly messing and fidgeting with something. 

“I really like this picture.” She commented out of the blue. This made you looked up from your task and saw that she was staring fondly at a picture on your corkboard. As you approached closer to her you felt your cheeks flush as you noticed that it was a portrait of the two of you on your birthday last year. The two of you are facing one another and Hana has her hands on your cheeks and the two of you are making goofy faces at one another. 

You can almost hear the music that was playing in the background at the party that night. The way she gently cupped your face into her hands. She had pulled you into a hug after that and ran off over to dance to the song that was on (it was of course a popular dance that was thriving on tiktok at that moment). It felt like your heart was going to beat out of your chest as the music throbbing through the apartment.

You snapped yourself out of your trance of memories and smiled back at her. “It’s one of my favorites, I only hang my favorites.” You smirked, swallowing your nerves away. Hana quickly looked back over at the board and that was when she noticed that it was the only polaroid on your wall. 

Hana’s face flushed lightly at the comment and she turned back to the photo. There was a moment’s silence and for a moment you wondered if you pressed too hard. You weren’t sure if the feelings you felt towards Hana were reciprocated or not. 

You weren’t sure why you had taken that leap. It felt like you had made the first bad move in a game of chess. You gripped the broom a little bit tighter. The last thing you wanted to do was make her uncomfortable around you. It was nice having someone to talk through my weird thought process when messing with the machines. You didn’t want to ruin that. That’s why you’ve hid your feelings for her for so long.

Your mind was going a mile a minute trying to think of a way to stop the awkward and tense silence that was suffocating both of you. All of your cards were on the table at this point and it was probably one of the cringiest things you had said in a long time.

“I really thought about kissing you that night.” Hana said in what was almost a whisper.

You blinked at her for a moment before turning around to see if anyone else was around that she might have been talking to. It was only the two of you in the shop at the moment. You felt like your voice was caught in your throat. You looked over at Hana and noticed that her cheeks were now a deeper shade of red as if she had just realized what SHE had said. 

You had taken a few moments to register what had just happened. “You should have.” You answered in an almost whisper that matched hers. Her head whipped over to you in surprise. Her blush deepened immensely. A smirk crawled across your lips as you winked over at her and walked back over to where you were sweeping.

Hana had stayed over at your work desk for a minute or so more before she walked over to you. “I’m going to head back to my room to sleep. See you in the morning.” She said before pecking her lips onto your cheek. It was your turn for your cheeks to turn beat red. You had grabbed her hand pulling her to a gentle stop.

You raised her hand to your lips, causing her face to burn a nice cherry red, and placing a chaste kiss to her knuckles. “Goodnight, Hana.” You cooed at her. She quickly took off after that with a blush and a few mumbles under her breath.

You smiled as you continued to sweep up your station, replaying the events of tonight over and over again in your head. Your heart in constant flutters and a smile that you can’t wipe off your face. You had a good feeling about the events of the day to come.

Overwatch oc portraits pt 2

Hello everyone, today I present to you part 2 of 3 posts regarding my overwatch ocs and their portraits! This is yet again so that people know who I'm talking about and to share a little bit about them!

The ocs in order of their portraits are: Aleksander Novak, Zaire Flores, Reverie Martinez, Nox Scarrow, Nico Cox, Valentijn Prins, Bonnie Prins, Hyun Chai, Azul Santana Da Conceiçao and Irzin Kron

Aleksander Novak, a doctor who suffered through an incident that never quite left him the same, granting him powers beyond his comprehension, powers that would lead him to having to learn to be at peace with himself, clinging to his humanity.

Zaire Flores, born in a family of doctors, the young man began researching the plants and herbs his parents use for medicine and would figure out ways for them to be used for harm. He enjoys poisonous plants and it quickly becomes his gimmick.

Reverie Martinez, a young woman who has an odd fascination with death and ghosts. It runs in her family, curiosity towards the Undead. Having gotten an old family book that has been passed down for generations at her 18th birthday, that's when things start to get interesting.

Nox Scarrow, neither Talon nor overwatch but a complete nuisance to society nonetheless. They do have tendencies to work with some of the Talon members as its more of an alliance sworn to a person than the organisation as a whole. They can temporary take over a person's movement, puppeteering the person to their will. They use this to get important things done.

Nico Cox, a Junker who tags along with Junkrat and Roadhog, he's the one that walks around scrap yards and picks up old bits and pieces to turn into weapons and traps or even adjustments to his own prosthetics. He's smarter than he presents himself to be.

Valentijn Prins, a brilliant inventor and engineer, he owns his own shop where he makes custom prosthetics and parts for humans and omnics alike. He has won a couple of prizes with his inventions and his ultimate goal is to make the world a better place for everyone.

Bonnie Prins, the younger sister of Valentijn and a talented skater! Atleast she was before her incident, that left her without her legs and in need of replacements. Since then she has picked it back up but it's still more difficult for her. She eventually joins overwatch during the world wide invasion of Nullsector.

Hyun Chai, a MEKA pilot who had a near death experience with his own meka, he was rebuild and that lead to him having to relearn everything. He recovers after well over a year and reluctantly rejoins the squad after he sees the world needs squads like theirs to help protect those who cannot fight for themself.

Azul Santana Da Conceiçao, a talented street artist from Brasil and the best friend of Lucio. They don't listen to authority and wish the world would be a better place. They try to spread their message via their art.

Irzin Kron, a shapeshifter and a trickster, someone who thrives on causing as much chaos as possible. They're with Talon but mostly for their own gain, they manipulate and lie to everyone and are a known backstabber.

D.Va: Oh--no, I'm the 'girly girl' of the team so it's mostly a branding thing for me. D.Mon's look is a bit edgier so it's bulkier up top but she has this kind of underboob thing going on-- Oh. And Casino has ass plating.

Lore post ! I don’t know where else to put this but did you know that the Korean translation of Hana’s Academy cosmetic lore implies she actually won the world championship with D.Mon and King (presumably in a World Cup for team Korea; the latter was still her archrival likely on another team)? I’ve always assumed she beat out Kyung-soo, but the wording is so fundamentally different in Korean—in English, note that it says she surpassed both of these people to win (though we knew she was on the same team as Yuna). Below is a translation of the Korean version:

My partner is big into esports (and also just the best gamer I know LOL) and said that this actually makes the art from shooting star of D.Va kissing the trophy alone make more sense because it was likely an MVP award, which goes to just one person in a competition. So, yes her stats and prestige likely outranked King and D.Mon (surpassed them, if you will) but they played together? And during the regular season were probably on separate teams hence the “arch rivalry”.

And all of this is supported by her canon Taegeukgi skin, which states explicitly that she represented Korea worldwide! And Michael Chu saying (his words) that her and King were “neck-in-neck” rivals makes sense when you consider they likely won the same worldwide titles together on the Korean team.

I think it’s crazy how different the wording is between the two translations and that King and D.Va actually have shared history. I’d love to know what that meant for their rivals dynamic and if they were potentially friends before MEKA? Maybe I’ll draw something. Also this basically confirms that neither Overlord nor Casino played the same competitive game (Mecha Guardian V) as the rivals and Yuna. (Jae-eun was likely never a pro gamer guys I’m sorry gamer casino truthers but formula 1 is a full-time gig and since they’re likely around 23-24 it’s improbable that they did both 😭😭) + lots of little hints imply Seunghwa actually played StarCraft! If they played MGV, they would likely have also been mentioned in the lore blurb as they would also have been top Korean players who represented the country.

This is probably a bit silly but I thought somebody else might find it cool maybe? We have such limited explicitly-stated MEKA lore so I like to synthesize 🩵💕 maybe I’ll do it on something else sometime. And if you want me to talk about another MEKA-squad related topic or compile info abt it my ask box is open for others with worms in the brain LOL

The pixelated robot is the mascot from 16-bit Hero, the arcade that taught Hana how to shoot by visiting it frequently according to an interaccion with Cole, it also resembles a StarCraft character, videogame that gave D.Va her esports victories.

The MEKA squad polaroid features all the members (left to right): Casino, King, D.Va, D.mon and Overlord.

She also has a GG! sticker, a D.Va and bunny logo stickers.

I believe there is something else that her hand is obstructing but I cannot find it.

After the MEKA squad of Korea fought back the Gwishin enough, the East China Sea Omnium produced a line of omnics based on the MEKA devices and their pilots. The difference being that the Omnium MEKA and pilot are one and the same mind.
