But it’s thanks to many generations from medieval monks to the Hyde Parker family who still live here, that this eclectic home still stands.⁣ ⁣ Around every corner there’s a new twist in the story – from Beatrix Potter sketches to collections of naval paintings and Chinese porcelain – everything tells a story and everyone has left their mark.⁣ ⁣ Devastated by fire in 1942, Melford Hall was nurtured back to life by the Hyde Parker family and it remains their much loved family home to this day. It is their stories of family life at Melford – from visits by their cousin Beatrix Potter through to our visitors today – that make this house more than bricks and mortar.⁣ ⁣ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲:⁣ ⁣ You can get to Long Melford Mondays to Saturdays from Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds train station. The closest bus stop adjacent to The Bull Hotel.⁣ ⁣ The local bus timetables can be found on www.suffolkonboard.com/timetables_leaflets/timetables_by_area⁣ ______________________________________⁣ ⁣ #LongMelford #Suffolk #NationalTrust #EastAnglia #VisitSuffolk #SuffolkCounty #MelfordHall #BeatrixPotter #HistoricEngland #England #DiscoverBritain #VisitBritain #BestDestinations #BeautifulPlaces #ArtOfVisuals #InstaTravel #LoveBritain #GreatBritainShots #UK_Shooters #Photos_Of_England #SuffolkPhotographer #TravelPhotography #Gardens #Splendid_Shotz #ScenicLocations #YourBritain #GloriousBritain #BBCBritain #GuardianTravelSnaps #WeLoveToTravel (at Melford Hall) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTbmYOYort2/?utm_medium=tumblr

Plant of the Day
Friday 14 July 2017
At the National Trust's Melford Hall, Long Melford, Sudbury, the Salvia sclarea var. turkestanica (sweaty betty, biennial clary) was producing tall stems bearing many pink to white bracts and soft blue and white tiny flowers. This hardy short-lived perennial or biennial will seed freely and grow in any reasonable soil in full sun. The plant does have a very distinctive scent!
