Appreciating the little things in life involves focusing our attention on what is pleasurable, nurturing, and sustaining in our lives and away from those events that are annoying, frustrating, or hurtful. It means practicing gratitude for those everyday things that are easy to take for granted or miss altogether. Adopting this outlook won’t stop negative events from occurring, but it may help prevent us from over-emphasising their importance in our lives.

We are generally pretty good at marking the big moments in our own and others’ lives; birthdays, weddings, graduations, once-a-year family get togethers. What would happen if we gave ourselves permission to celebrate the little things? The how and what of celebration will depend on what’s important to you.

Here are some ideas:

🌸When the sun finally appears after a week of grey skies grab a friend or loved one and go for a walk to celebrate the good weather and regenerative effects of rain.

🌸Pamper yourself after getting through a daunting or tedious task, such as cleaning your room or writing a report, by doing something you enjoy.

🌸Look for the good stuff - like the small miracles that occur around us all the time.

🌸Focus on the fantastic aspects of people and situations

🌸 Let go of arrogant, erroneous notions like, “I already know that,” or, “I’ve seen it all,” or, “No big deal."

So, take a moment right now to pause and put your attention on all of the simple things you can appreciate at this moment.

Black Church Rock . . It’s another classic composition from England. Black Church Rock. So natural and just perfect for photography. Lines upon leading lines. From the rocks to the clouds in the sky. Photographic poetry. . . The story behind this photo is something else. Having started the day off in Lands End, I made my way up to Dorset. It was certainly a trek. I arrived at the end of my expected arrival window, meaning — the tide was rising. Just 3 minutes later and I would’ve been much closer to the rock than intended. I would set set up the tripod, and stand on the rock behind it, the tide inching up each rock. Taking long exposures left me with fewer shots than usual. So it really did feel like a race against the clock. . . At the end of the day this image stuck with me in all of it’s otherworldly-ness. . . Taken from Febrarury in my 2023 calendar. Only a couple left on GumRoad. Away from the madness. A uniquely beautiful location. 🌊🔥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ---- This village / museum faces the Atlantic and is located in a quiet and peaceful bay in Carloway, Isle of Lewis, Outer Hebrides, dating back to the 18th century. People in Gearrannan had to travel large distances to make a living, with for example women travelling all the way to eastern England to process fish and men from Gearrannan being found in the South Atlantic for the whaling season. 🐳 ---- In 1952, electricity replaced the oil lamps that were commonly used and in the 60s, piped water finally arrived, bringing an end to the communal laundry washing in the loch. Milk delivery was also established in 1965, so there was no need to keep a cow any longer. Blackhouses similar to these can be found all around Scotland. However, the interest of these Blackhouses is that they were still occupied until 1974, making this place one of the last inhabited blackhouse villages of this type in Scotland. 📌 Louth Lincolnshire

These two photos are of the cobbled streets: day and night 🌙

The town of Louth in Lincolnshire - Louth has retained its medieval street plan & avoided the town centre changes that have spoilt many of England’s market towns - they are currently trying to pedestrianise the town which is you look on the 'move Louth Forward' Facebook group everyone is losing their sh*t over. There is also a 'Moan Louth Forward' group - equally as judgey and with a mindset of the 1800s, for example, people complaining there is a new McDonald's, a Starbucks and a KFC when there are small businesses to support. Now while I 100% support small business, more often than not, they are more costly because they are handmade, bespoke, beautiful items but in the current situation people just can't afford that. It's a difficult one actually - modernise the town, encourage people to visit, increase more jobs or keep the place more 'oldy worldy' and unique. I'm on the fence. The fence is a comfortable place. I'm in no position of power or to judge choices.

You should've seen people lose their MINDS over the parklets the council installed, which then had to be removed and then some idiots put graffiti all over the floor complaining about paying 20p to use the local toilets - I guess I judge that choice.

Shoppers visit Louth because it offers an alternative to the vast shopping malls and identical high streets elsewhere and they can enjoy a variety of tearooms, cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels with something to suit all tastes and budgets - I worked at Larders for a bit which is a coffee house and you get your regular customers and it's like a little family.

As you would expect from a market town, Louth hosts a variety of markets including regular weekly (Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays), a cattle market, monthly farmers’ markets, and thriving Victorian and Christmas Sunday Markets when thousands of visitors come to soak up the atmosphere and to buy special gifts. The town has many butchers, bakers, cheese shops, delicatessens and greengrocers all selling fresh, high quality, local produce.

Many visitors to Louth enjoy a break to take a look around the attractions

OLD HARRY ROCKS . . Welcome to January… already playing catch up in the New Year. . . It’s the classic view one takes the moment they send their drone up. It’s hard not to mimic because it’s just so beautiful.
