While it’s obviously canon that Chris has an inferiority complex to Wyatt, I think that Melinda also has a complex relationship with being “Wyatt’s sister” and how she’s viewed through that lens. It’s definitely not the same thing at all, but I do think that it’s definitely a factor for her relationship with Wyatt and the magical community as well. 

With that said, I don’t necessarily think that Wyatt really gets Chris or Mel’s issues with it, but I do think that he’s at least aware of them. There are a lot of italics in that sentence, but my main thought is that Wyatt has, at the very least, the knowledge that both of his siblings dislike the way that they’re perceived or seen through/as their relationship to him.

Which is why I think that one of the fastest ways to get Wyatt to like you, beyond just the immediate surface level, is to flip the script to prioritize Chris/Mel respectively. Like Bianca meets Wyatt and just goes, so you’re Chris’s brother and Wyatt is immediately like. I like her :)

If we ignore the comics, what kind of powers would you give the Charmed One's children?

Chris and Wyatt's powers have already been confirmed in the show, but what about the others?

I have 3 versions in mind

Nr 1

PJ would have telekinesis, parker cryokinesis (just to shake things up. in my head it is a "mutation" of molecular immobilization), and Peyton molecular immobilization. PJ would eventually develope levitation as an extention of her telekinetic powers, which would then develope into full scale flight. As half cupids, they also have a sixth sense regarding love. Not real empathy, but more like a strong and accurate intuition.

The twins have have molecular immobilization and combustion respectively, like in the comics, and orbing, but not telekinetic orbing, since I hc that only whitelighter-witches who were supposed to inherit telekinesis as as their active power, possess telekinetic orbing.

Henry Jr. is adopted like in the comics. He is a witch practioner, and/or gains a some kind of magical talisman at some point. Or he just gets a job at some bar or store for magical beings and keeps his family informed and helps them get access of magical supplies they might need.

Melinda I would give premontions. Eventually she would develope empathy as well, and after some time it would get to the point where she could use psychic reflection, like Phoebe did in "Morality Bites", though it would take many years before she could inflict nearly as much damage as Phoebe did in that episode. Instead Melinda would just use that power to momentarily distract her enemy by inflicting them with an wave of emotions intense enough to briefly catch someone off guard. Later on she would either develope astral projection naturally or learn it. I go back and fourth between deciding if she should ever become powerful enough to use her active powers while astral projecting. She would have no whitelighter powers.

Nr. 2

Everyone is the same as in scenario 1, except Melinda and Henry jr.

Henry jr. isn't adopted, and has orbing (but not telekinetic orbing, for the same reason as the twins) and premonitions. I feel like it's a power that is normally associotiated more with women, so giving it to one of the boys would be cool. Eventually he would develope astral projection. Not just astral visions, but also astral projection, like Prue (i know it was an extention of telekinesis in prue's case, but imo it could also be an extention of premontions, since premonitions could be considered projecting your mind through time and space and we have seen Phoebe have astral visions).

Melinda would have telekinesis and eventually develope astral projection.

Nr. 3

The twins have premonition. One of them sees the future, the other the past, and they both can see the present. One developes empathy, the other astral projection.

Henry jr. is adopted and a mortal, while Melinda has molecular immobilization and combustion.

The cupid-witches are the same as in the other scenarios.

Today on niche content you don’t follow me for 😂 I drew some charmed next gen characters from a fic I’m working on!

From left to right we have Wyatt, Melinda Prudence Wyatt from Alt!2009, and Melinda. In my fic, strange portals start opening up and the Charmed multiverse is discovered. Soon people start pouring through them from different dimensions because someone is destroying them. One of these portals happens to lead to the Alt!2009 timeline and Melinda Wyatt comes through…so now there are two Twice-Blessed Children running around.

Though no one is quite sure who’s counterpart Melinda Wyatt is. Because you can’t have two of the same person running around. But since Prudence doesn’t disappear… who’s her double? Wyatt or Melinda?

This might be a part of series where I do my two other main next gen characters it might not idk yet 😂

​Okay, so like. General disclaimer in that basically all of this is my own perspective from Fanfiction Net, and that most of this was me 2013-2016 and basically reading all the next gen or Chris fic on the site so I have no actual authority, just my own conviction. Also, like usual, there will be no coherency to this.

But yeah, like. Focusing on Mel and the next gen specifically, obviously, everything was very Wyatt and Chris-centered. I’m going to assume that the charmed sons theory is the one that Wyatt and Chris are Piper’s only kids and that the little girl in the flashforward was “a cousin or a neighbor’s kid” which. Over a decade and a half afterwards, I’m still sitting here like “they didn’t explicitly name her as Piper’s kid bc they made the mistake of assuming that y’all could pick up context clearly” like c’mon. (Also it was kind of weird with how people responded to Henry Jr, with one author being like weirdly insistent that Chris and Wyatt were the only biological sons to the extent that she said that Henry Jr being adopted was an answer to that dilemma. (She did in fact use dilemma, but misspelled it.))

More specifically though, people got annoyed when Melinda would be in fics! For context, I was thinking about this because I was going through my old FFN profile to delete/update/move some stuff around and read some old reviews on older fics. 

One of them was posted in February 2015 and someone outright said that they stopped reading when they saw that Mel was in the story. She wasn’t even really in the story, tbh, I just mentioned her in my author’s note when I was mentioning my names for the other next gen kids bc I don’t use the comic names and giving a rough timeline for ages bc it jumped through the timeline a lot. This was a 7k story and they literally scrolled to the bottom just to be upset Mel was mentioned.

Another was actually a oneshot collection posted in January 2016, focusing on weird conversations and shit that happened in Chris and Wyatt’s apartment at night. (It was super niche, I don’t know my thought process behind it or how I pulled eight chapters out of that.) On the first chapter, someone made sure to tell me that they were happy that it was just Wyatt and Chris, without a sister. (We had an entire mini-argument on whether Mel canonically existed bc 2016!me was. an Interesting Time.)

Even in fics where Mel does exist, it was almost always written so that she wasn’t a major player, usually by having her be dramatically younger than the boys.  (If she was around, she did not get to have a role in the narrative about her brothers, forget her own story. There were very few people who apparently saw the story potential in this girl.) Frankly, a lot of people did it with the other next gen girls, too. They were rarely a big presence in the story or in Wyatt and Chris’s lives. In fics about stuff like the unchanged future, they died relatively soon and weren’t really addressed. In changed future fics or outright spin-offs, they were largely skipped over as “being too young” with the idea that Chris and Wyatt were in college and the cousins were in high school. 

Of course, this pretty much entirely ignores that a) you can be an adult and still have relationships with your younger siblings/cousins b) that Mel didn’t have an extremely noticeable age gap from her brothers in the flashforward and c) Phoebe’s premonition had her daughter be in the same age range as Chris and Wyatt. Just everything possible to minimize the next gen girls. (Of course, these fics also never had Chris or Wyatt have platonic female friends either, just love interests that were always women.)

This is already very long, and I don’t know if you wanted elaboration on Bianca as well so like. I would gleefully leap at the chance to talk about how absolutely misogynistic Bianca’s treatment is, but I managed to basically spend nearly 700 words to say “Mel gets ignored” so.

I keep flip flopping on if I want to make Mel blonde or brunette. On one hand, I initially mentally cast her as blonde and also she gives me like. edgy blonde vibes and I really like the aesthetic I’ve found for blonde pictures. (It also admittedly helps that it’s been significantly easier finding pictures for her dynamic with her love interest with blonde women instead of brunette.) 

On the other hand, she was canonically brunette and there’s also a great vibe there as well. It’d also be easier to find a face claim for her, but like. Blonde Mel.

Spoilers for Charmed Comics

I kind of wish that the comics hadn't given almost all the Charmed kids pretty much thr same abilities: teleportation and remote teleportation.

That's why I am disappointed that Melinda got whitelighter-witch powers, rather than being a normal witch. Now her powers are just like her brothers' and PJ's, and there are no "normal" witches in the next generation. Just cupid-witches and whitelighter-witches -cunless Paige's girls don't inherit any whiteligher or hybrid powers.

At least Paige's twins were not given telekinesis/telekinetic orbing. They haven't shown sign of orbing yet, but they are still young. Then again, so were their cousins when they started using their powers. I imagine they might get orbing one day, but not remote orbing or telekinetic orbing, since it's sort of implied in the show that telekinetic orbing is a combo of orbing and and telekinesis, so only whitelighter-witches who inherited telekinesis from their witch side get telekinetic orbing.
