So, in Brazilian politics news, former president Michel Temer, who took over after the controversial impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, has called Rousseff “super honest”, and received an acid response from his former colleague, who said he tries to “clean up his condition of a coupist” and that “history doesn’t forgive betrayal”.

On Thursday (July 21st, 2022), in an interview, Temer said that Dilma is “super honest” and that the impeachment took place because she had “difficulties in connecting” with Congress and society.

"Sometimes they talk about corruption, but it's a lie. She (Dilma) is honest. What I know, and I was able to follow, although I was on the sidelines of the government and although I was vice president, is that there is nothing that can label her corrupt.”, he said. “For me, she’s super honest. There were political problems. She had difficulties in her relationship with the National Congress, she had difficulties in her relationship with society and had the so-called 'fiscal pedaling' [an accounting maneuver to give the false impression that more money was received than was spent], an extremely technical thing, decreed by the Federal Court of Auditors. This set of factors is what led crowds to the streets."

"I didn't participate in any coup. When the procedure began in the Chamber of Deputies, I came to São Paulo and stayed in my office for several weeks for a reason that, I recognize, exists: that the vice-president is always the first suspect. I only came back in the last week, when everyone looked for me and warned that I needed to be in Brasilia, because the Chamber was going to vote on the indictment and then refer it to the Senate. What happened was compliance with the Federal Constitution."

"Whoever overthrows a president by impeachment is not Congress. It is the people on the street that influence. If there are no people on the street, there is not the slightest possibility of a negative manifestation in Congress.", he affirmed.

On the following day, Dilma Rousseff released a note in response.

“I would be grateful if Mr. Michel Temer would no longer seek to clean up his undisputed status as a coup plotter using my undisputed personal and political honesty. It is precisely this quality that despises, rejects, and repudiates an assessment that comes from someone who articulated one of the greatest political betrayals of recent times. It is completely innocuous to say that there was no coup, as this character offered himself as vice president twice.”

“I also remind that the 'difficulty of dialogue with Congress' is not a legal and constitutional reason for impeachment in a presidential regime, as he well knows. This 'difficulty' was a complete rejection of the practices of the president of the Chamber, deputy Eduardo Cunha, creator of Centrão who wanted to implement the 'secret budget'' with my consent."

Centrão, or Big Center, is a group of political parties in Brazil that do not have a specific ideological orientation but aim at ensuring proximity to the executive branch in order to guarantee advantages and allow them to distribute privileges through clientelistic networks.

Secret budget refers to a measure created by the Bolsonaro government named “rapporteur's amendment”, which allows the identification of the budgetary agency, the action that will be developed, and even the person benefited by the money, but not the deputy who indicated the destination of the money is hidden. The measure is used by the current administration as a way to obtain political support from Parliament and distribute public funds through parliamentary amendments.

“Finally, I remind you that history does not forgive the practice of betrayal. Mister Michel Temer doesn't fool anyone anymore. What is known of him is more than enough to avoid him, which is why I do not intend to debate this gentleman any longer.”, Dilma finishes her letter.

QUANDO SEI A UN MILLIMETRO DAL BARATRO

Capita a volte di trovarsi ad un millimetro dal baratro, in quei momenti sospesi dove non è soltanto la paura a tenere svegli nella notte, ma anche una stanchezza profonda, una che il sonno non sa lenire.

Questa non nasce dal corpo ma dall'anima, esausta da una lotta continua contro demoni invisibili, aspettative inappagate, e frammenti di sogni che si disperdono come cenere al vento.

È la stanchezza di chi si impone di restare in piedi, di chi nega a sé stesso il permesso di cedere, per la paura che, una volta caduti, non si trovi più la forza per rialzarsi.

Eppure, ammettere di essere così vicini al punto di rottura, di sentirsi a un respiro dal cedere, porta con sé un tipo di coraggio che spesso non pensavamo di avere. In quell'ammettere la nostra stanchezza e la nostra paura, c'è una sorta di magia, un potere che prima ignoravamo.

Il baratro allora si trasforma: non più abisso in cui temere di cadere, ma spazio per fermarsi, riflettere, e con tutto il cuore decidere il passo successivo. Non si tratta di una resa, ma di un chiaro momento di decisione, dove la scelta si posiziona tra perdere se stessi o ritrovarsi.

Nell'atto di accettare la propria fragilità, si apre la strada per una rinascita, per allontanarsi dal precipizio, verso una nuova alba di speranza e forza interiore. Questo percorso non dipende più dal quanto possiamo resistere prima di frantumarci, ma da come possiamo usare la nostra consapevolezza per distanziarci dal baratro, millimetro dopo millimetro.

In questa accettazione, riconoscendo di essere umani, vulnerabili, ma capaci di speranza, si trova la vera liberazione. È proprio in questi momenti, accettando di essere ad un millimetro dal baratro, che impariamo la più preziosa delle lezioni: spiegare le ali e volare.

Regarding your last post where you talked about STEM and Humanities, here's some comments and experiences I wanna share with you:

I think they're equally important for society. They just serve for different things in life and science. I'm from Brazil, and there is this "technology short courses" project that was applied in schools by the previous presidential teams (Proposed by Michel Temer and applied by Jair Bolsonaro), leaving aside human sciences. After that, the kids only focus on learning how to make brigadeiro (a famous Brazilian dessert, and this is not a joke), for example, so they can open their own business. Since they don't study human sciences anymore, they don't have the critic sense of seeing that education is an important tool to fight poverty and human mass explotation.

Private schools still have the original school curriculum (with everything they need to study to be able to enroll in a university). Obviously, this happens due to the selection of people who will be able to get a higher degree (rich and "important" people)

The current lack of both sciences in public Brazilian schools is leading to a critically dull education and the formation (? Couldnt find the right word) of a huge number of people that will become a working mass to serve the rich.

Happily, the current education minister and the presidential team are trying to repel this project and improve the basic education.

I could talk more about this, but it'd be full of politics and less science.

In conclusion, the lack of these two sciences can lead to a lack of criticism and logical thinking.

A great book that talks about it is "Efeito Bolsonaro na Educação" (the Bolsonaro effect in education). Sadly, it is only available in Portuguese. I don't know if this gives credibility to what I said, but I'm an undergraduate student of Modern Languages, Linguistics, Literature, and Education (Letras in Brazil).

I’m American and have a very America-centric view so this is interesting to learn about! Here we have a much higher emphasis on STEM and things like that (I probably said that in my last post) but it’s really interesting to hear from people in other places and how their society shapes their view on my question.

IN THIS COUNTRY!!!! I’M OBVIOUSLY not taking this job but I’m considering going to the interview just to tell him to his face what I think of his content (and record it)
