I don’t really know what I painted. The morning woods, the afternoon woods, the mosquito woods? Several cars came and went but I only had three people talk to me. I’m still getting used to that. I’m trying not to talk about the painting because I’m not convinced I’ve justified my time there. I really want to not like it. Maybe I should just go to sleep. Yesterday I fell asleep at 6:30. At that rate it’s already past my bedtime. I think I am completely discombobulated. One thing is certain: this is the most plein air painting I’ve ever done. Last week, we have been to Upper Peninsula Michigan and man it is one of the colorful trips recently. Sure Vermont got great colors but if we know where to look, Michigan won’t disappoint. We are lucky to explore some really good back roads and loved the colors. I am excited to share these photos. Would you like to join me? I managed to make three 12x12’s at the beach yesterday. What a beautiful day, #lakemichigan this magical turquoise color sometimes, the sunburnt crowd, side lit, front lit, back lit. Definitely a kid’s beach. They were running around everywhere. I had a little girl watch me for 45 minutes, even brought her little chair over. She never said anything, just smiled. Her Dad is in the foreground of the 2nd piece. Mathis the ranger drove by several times and then came to talk for awhile. I asked if he’d seen any plein air painters here and he gave a shocked “no way”! Hard for me to believe because it’s so nice. I bought a State Park pass so I’ll be back. Ps-I went swimming, ahhhhhh!
