We knew Paul was vulnerable to the spiritual world, but in episode  ‘You are My Sunshine’ we witness the ugly path such an ‘ability’ might lead too. An evil spirit takes over Paul and brings the worst in him. Suddenly he’s the bad guy who Evelyn and Alva must stop. It’s quite disconcerting to see our hero commit domestic violence and attacking his friends. Before this episode, Paul was portrayed as a sweet, gentle man. It’s the first time we realized that yes, maybe that evil path the show has been alluding is a real possibility for Paul and it’s scary. He is lucky to have such good friends as Evelyn and Alva to keep him grounded and away from the dark forces that are trying to take over.
And woohooo it’s Anna Gunn!! Skeet and Anna had great chemistry.

Miracles was essentially a procedural series with a paranormal twist, and it really shone in its standalone instalments. Certain episodes are simply magnificent in their storytelling, performances, and sheer guts, and still stand up today as fresh and inventive examples of television. The Ferguson Syndrome, though not the best episode it produced, is a great example of how to properly set up a show while still being able to stand alone; Hand of God was the most mythology-rich instalment of the run, and managed to combine it with the episodic structure and character development (x)

Paul connects easily with the people involved in the cases they investigate, especially if they are kids. He will, without any hesitation, put himself in danger if it means helping people he barely even knows. One of the best example is Travis Prescott in The Bone Scatterer. The last picture in this picspam is Paul comforting Travis, who has to deal with an abusive father. It’s one of my favorite scene in the series.
Paul’s ability to deeply care about strangers makes him a true hero and forever in my list of favorite characters ever.

As their working relationship develops, it becomes plain that Alva doesn't speak lightly. Paul's near-death experience and his encounter with Tommy Ferguson seem to have opened him up to abilities beyond those of ordinary men. Tommy isn't the only person who talks to him from beyond the grave. Vulnerable to the spirits of those who have died, as well as to other supernatural forces, Paul becomes a case in his own right -- one Alva finds endlessly fascinating to the point of obsession.(x)

But the best example of Miracles was almost certainly The Friendly Skies, which is breathtaking in its execution of a story's inherent emotional drama. Following a group of passengers who all experienced a phenomenon when their plane temporarily disappeared, Paul, Alva and Evelyn are enlisted to investigate. Every single story, detailed through admirably mundane interviews, is fascinating and heartbreaking in its own specific way, and the episode is a rollercoaster of experiences even on multiple viewings. As with the rest of the series, the statement was less interested in why the incident happened, and much more concerned with how it affected the people involved. (x)
