Day 5: SHOWTIME!

Luck sings “Easy To Love” by Ella Fitzgerald. The audience loves it - well most of them do anyway. That guy on the right isn’t so eager to forgive Luck for dragging him into her audition the other day.

“How can that be?”

@miss-twila and I are working on a collab comic where our OCs, Whitney Sinnett and Lady Luck, meet for the first time.

The song I chose for Luck to sing is an anachronism, yes, but it may also be older than you think. We all know this song from a little movie about witches many of us love to watch around Halloween, but the song actually originated in the mid 50′s, written by a guy named Screamin’ Jay Hawnkins. It has been covered many times, one of the notable covers by Nina Simone in the mid 60′s. So while this song predates the setting of the Cuphead world by three decades, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen characters sing songs that didn’t actually exist yet in their era.

Before she can go audition, Luck decides to go ask the Devil about at least temporarily cancelling her siren power. While Luck can control how her singing hypnotizes people, she doesn’t want to take any chances and get in trouble with the staff at the Swinging Sinnett’s Jazz Lounge.

Aw, thanks Twi! This means so much to me.

I’m starting to build a little more confidence, especially with surprising myself with keeping up with and staying ahead with the Lantern Festival. Not only that, but I started a short comic and managed to do the first panel in under 3 hours, and it amazed me. I’ve underestimated myself!
