Original brochure for the Trueno AE86 made by Toyota.
Offered in a number of trim levels with various options the AE86 was Toyota’s first generation of the Corolla produced from 1983-1987. Commonly nicknamed “Hachi Roku” in Japanese, meaning eight-six, this little thing was powered by a mighty 4A-GE inline four making about 128 horsepower which was more than enough for its roughly 2,000 pound curb weight. The AE86 was a very popular car in Japan and eventually gained notoriety in the Western world from its iconic appearance in the Initial D anime series. Contrary to most belief, the American market actually did get this car with a modified engine to meet California emission regulations. I love proportions of this car, the 3 door especially, and look at how cool the stock wheels are!

Modifying a TE27 Sprinter Trueno
The secret is "simple" rather than "plain"
'72 model TE27 SprinterTrueno that respects the atmosphere with the standard parts of the time
Last year and this year, the TE27 Trueno won prizes in the Modify Co Contest two years in a row. Isn't it a dot?
Photo: Ito
●Modification part '83 final model 2T-G replacement Unmeasured initial model genuine car
Breathtaking finish
Lightweight flywheel / Solex 40 for 18R-G / Barnacle race 4in1EX manifold & 50.8 muffler / Igniter & ignition coil for TE71 / Earl's fuel line / 3 layer radiator / Electric fan for AE92 / Transmission for TE61 / TRD Clutch disc & cover/differential for TE71 Custom-ordered front coilover Ligier 4kg spring, TRD 5-speed adjustment shock for AE92, Carrosse pillow ball/Rear TOSCO race spring, NISMO 8-speed adjustment shock for B310/Caliper for AE86/Alfin drum for RT55/TOSCO7J -13+ 8J-13/Autolook old bucket seat/TRD tachometer/Ramco oil pressure, oil temperature gauge/custom front spoiler/export marker/tail lamp for KE25
The engine is the final 2T-G with Solex 40 for 18R-G and the cam for the initial model. The silver head cover seems to be the color of the group, and the owner's car has a red border. Barnacle octopus legs can be installed almost with bolts from TE27 to TE37. The plug cord is made by TRD and the oil catch tank is 2ℓ of Carrosse. The interior of the engine room is in show condition, with almost everything including the fenders, struts, and bulkheads polished to a shine.
Exterior parts group full of commitment
According to the owner, who values the atmosphere of that era more than anything else, “Cars are easier to drive than motorcycles because there are many things that cannot be seen.” In other words, the parts that can be seen are the parts that must be thoroughly adhered to in the car, and Niinana's enthusiasm is strongly felt. According to the owner, he likes the Napoleon mirror that he got from a friend the most. Also, I chose the tail lens for the early 20 series Corolla Coupe (KE25) and installed it nine years ago when I got it. However, the simplicity of the red color without amber matches the side markers for export that are installed in the set, and he likes it. If you replace it with the frame, you can install it with bolt-on. The Cibie 100/90W bulb of the headlamp that changes the look of your eyes is a classic. In addition, the black accent lines around the headlamps give it a completely different image and a fearless look. The front chin spoiler is a custom order.
Commitment to modification
“I changed cars with the B110, KP, and Hachiroku, and my fourth car, the Niinana, was bought nine years ago for 100,000 yen. It's become an item.Mine is terrible considering the price. It must have been used for dirt tracks.
Before I knew it, I had become like that. Custom is important to the atmosphere that fits the era of the car. I like to make it simple rather than the earth. I also like customizing motorcycles. It was the RD, the predecessor of the Yamaha RZ. Since there are many visible parts of a motorcycle, it is not so easy to cheat. Cars are fun in that respect. Invisible parts are solidified with the latest parts. However, the appearance that can be seen is particular about what fits the atmosphere of Niinana. As expected, there are many things that are difficult to find, but it's also one of the pleasures to look for such parts again. In baht, I can be proud of the Tosco wheels, Napoleon mirrors, and Autolook seats.
Satisfaction while driving!
It's something only the driver can see, but I definitely want to be particular about the meters. This Niinana was equipped with a 11,000 rpm full-scale TRD racing tachometer (manufactured by Nippondenso). It is the benefit of the independent 3 meters of this era that it can be neatly put together because it is installed in the normal position. The point that it is replaced with an aluminum panel is also lacy. Also center hydraulic
As for the engine, I tried tuning the 1750 and 2000 that can be thought of in Niinana. But when I was restoring it, a friend took me a 2-liter engine, and now it's a 1.6-liter engine. There are still many things I want to do. I would like to work on my legs a little more. Also the engine. I want to add a special crank. It would cost about 500,000 yen to make one-off, so I'm looking for TRD or the one that was used in the F3 that was made overseas at the time. It may take a lifetime to find it, but that hardship is part of the fun.”
Wheels are 13 inches of TOSCO (the predecessor of TRD of Toyopet Sports Corner). At that time, the racing design was a perfect match for the TE27. 7" is installed in the front and 8J is installed in the rear, but 7" is especially difficult to obtain now. Of course, TRD seems to have some in stock, but it is a gem that I would like to see reprinted and resold. The tire to be combined is ADVAN Type D. The size is 185/55 VR13 at the front and 195/55 VR13 at the rear, and it clears the basics of difficulty with over fenders.
hard to get now

Modifying a Daihatsu Applause article.
Stopping tine Just an old man's car gives off a strong presence. Seasoning the rare car Applause with JTCC style by making full use of tricks. What is this car? I'm sorry to say that I'm going to modify it based on this. Of course, there are no special parts. Diversion and self-made, and it's a mirror of modification to achieve this by accumulating small tricks. Photography: Hijiri Kamimura
● Modified parts.
same color and simple
Pirelli P5000 195/45-16/Enkei PR-01 7J-16 Offset +32/ Front: GM Super Sport for AE86 (3.2kgm) Spring/Rear: Cusco Low Form for AE92 (2.9kg-m) Spring/Easy for AE86 Works Aero Mirror/Cusco Bonnet Pin/75 Muffler Cutter/Brake Rotor Hole Processing/Grantz 346 Steering/Front 2 Degree Camber/Project Mu HC Brake Pad/Front Lip Spoiler for Household Use/Malls Body same color
Its body design is far from a domestic car, but if it is normal, it is just an old man's car with a silver body color that is not dull at all. However, the body of this Applause remains the genuine silver. In spite of that, he doesn't leave even a trace of an uncle-like atmosphere. The reason is that Biller and Bamber's malls, side malls, Mira 1, etc., which were not the same color, are painted in the same color. It seems that there are other people doing this so far (aside from the model), and even the door handles and turn signal lens rims are the same color. Certainly, it is not enough to just make everything the same color. The atmosphere becomes boring. but,
The plating molding of the pillar part was left, turn signal lens and window.
He doesn't forget to smoke the body to tighten it up.
Powerful with large diameter wheels
As one of the parts that make up the extraordinary atmosphere of Applause, tires and wheels play a large role. The combination of large 16-inch wheels and thin 45 profile tires impresses everyone that this Applause is more than just a car. Of course, I'm not just wearing 16 inches. The positional relationship between the tires and the body was boiled down by the lowdown and the wheel spacers, of course, the color was silver, which is the same color as the body, and the center cap was painted black on purpose to tighten it up. At the same time, the wheel nut is also combined with small tricks such as using a black SSR type lightweight Ron nut. Also, the contents (brake) can be seen only in the wheel with a large opening, but it is raised with a drilled rotor.
Emphasize the European car face
Applause originally had a deeply chiseled and distinctive face, but he succeeded in transforming it into something even more impressive by making full use of tricks. What he does specifically is emphasizing the depth of carving. A gradation film is pasted on the front and rear windows above the headlight lens to create shadows (same effect as eyeshadow), and the bottom part of the turn signal lens is set almost in the same position as the bumper. It is made recessed by cutting out. The grille has been stripped of useless slits and emblems to emphasize its simplicity. A lip spoiler is also installed, but surprisingly, it is a window covering for home use. In addition, the license plate is tilted at an angle that does not add flavor, creating a powerful face and enhancing the presence that is lacking in normal, but it is clear that the cost is less than 10,000 yen.
Masami Suzuki Style
“I own the car, but it was my husband who made it this far. When I bought a new car, I was lucky enough to find an Abrose (Applause seems to be in short supply even in the used car market).
When asked to modify the car, they paid attention to ride comfort and comfort. The finished car looks like this, but since it's a family-friendly car, we go shopping, and even grandpa and grandma can ride in it. Therefore, comfort and comfort are essential. That point has become very convincing. In terms of ride comfort, even though the vehicle height has been sufficiently lowered, there is no bouncing movement that tends to occur in lowered cars, and the ride comfort is a little tighter than usual. , The muffler, engine, and interior of the car are basically normal, so comfort is not compromised. Well, my husband is a car broker, so...
Other mods were in this state without any particular order. Rather, it seems that the owner gradually added to it, changing this part and then the other part, and it turned out like this. As a housewife, I really like it because my husband uses his ingenuity and ideas without spending a lot of money.
When it comes to a car with such a strong presence
I'm afraid of the police, so I'm getting official approval for the illegal parts. It's a family car, so I don't want the police to stop me."

my take on a contemporary starlet using a modified gt86 with a much shorter wheelbase, smaller wheels and a smoothed front fender.
ideally it would have near identical running gear to a GT86, but with a 1.6 or 1.8L engine, maybe a higher ratio rear gear (4.5-4.7), and a kerb weight of around 950kg.
the idea being to imitate the kp60 starlet compared to an ae86. much less power, much less weight and a shorter wheelbase.

Up To Speed: RWB - Japan’s Notorios Porsche Tuner
Rauh-Welt Begriff (RWB) is one of the most notoriously successful, yet controversial, Japanese car tuners to exist today. With his army of modified Porsche 911’s, Akira Nakai has built a world famous tuning company—frequently circulating through automotive press giants like Speedhunters, Hoonigan, Illest, Fatlace, and Auto Otaku. From his first Rough World AE86’s, to Porsche 930’s, 964’s, and 996’s, many find his modification techniques to be…. well, rough!
Grab a Stella & your air saw, and sit back in your leather armchair, as James Pumphrey tells the story of Nakai san, and the history of RWB.
