Reach out and touch faith. Word is the Cowboy Motel dates back to the 1940s as the Del Camino Motel before changing to its current name in the 50s. Had a great conversation with a passerby as the smell of smoke from nearby wildfires still permeated the air. The motel made the news last March for being the site of a fatal crime. Word is Cadillac Ranch originated in 1974 on a wheat field in the Texas Panhandle and dreamt up by eccentric millionaire and prankster Stanley Marsh 3. He enlisted the help of three artists from Northern California known as the Ant Farm to create an art installation of 10 vintage Cadillacs buried face first into the ground in a 60 degree angle like the Great Pyramids of Giza. After moving a couple miles West to a cow pasture in 1997 to accommodate Amarillo’s growth the place continues to be a spray paint enthusiasts dream and an almost ritual site for travelers from across the world. Cadillac Ranch had been featured in Pixar’s Cars movie and music videos.
