ok. I hc that loid is partially blind in his left eye. His sight in it gets worse as time goes on due to the injury he got when he met Franky. Eventually, after wearing his eyes out reading and overworking himself, he'll be completely blind in it.
I adore this headcanon sm! Thank you for being the first to send one in! I love your idea; and hope you enjoy my headcanon for it!
I think that Loid doesn’t see it as an issue at first; as he thought it was just nearsightedness, until he started to read bedtime stories to Anya; and one night he realizes that he can’t read them to her as well as when he first started; even with glasses. After the reveals, I could see him waking up one morning - and not having sight in the one eye at all and panicking; only for Yor to examine it - only to find out he’s completely lost sight in the eye. I feel like this would be really hard on him; as he would feel incompetent as a spy; because visual perception and eyesight is important for his line of work; but he also feels devastated that he won’t be able to do certain things with Anya because of it; such as reading her bedtime stories, or helping her with the homework she has - as efficiently as he used too. I could see Yor comforting him though; along with Anya - that they love him regardless of this; and they can still do things together. Anya would probably even tell him that she thought it was cool that he spared Franky and protected him; and even asks him to tell her the story over and over. I could also see ( as a bonus ), Yor helping him with his eyesight in his remaining seeing eye - to help him continue to read as well as he did before. I hope this headcanon does your idea justice, as I absolutely adore it! Thank you again for sending one in!

Seeing some stupid shit making the rounds in a disability community.
I get y'all think people with glasses can still move if they take them off and that's why they aren't mobility aids but none of the people saying this are actually legally blind or know what it feels like to lose your glasses when you have serious, profound vision impairment. Like the kind of eyes that glasses can't even fully help.
Like sure, if your eyes are just a little bad but totally fine with glasses/contacts, your glasses are not a mobility aid. If your nearsightedness gets better at even three feet in front of you, you can probably move through space safely without glasses.
This is NOT the same for everyone with glasses.
I just need people to understand that when your vision is profoundly bad (think 20/600 and worse) and you cannot see more than an inch in front of your face, you will not be able to safely move around a space without injury if you aren't wearing your glasses and THAT makes them a mobility aid, IF your eyes are literally that bad.
I am literally as impaired without my glasses as a blind person is without their cane. If the white cane is a mobility because it helps you to ambulate your body through a space without injury then so are my fucking glasses. You don't get to tell me I'm fine and can move without them because I lived without them for a week and it severely impacted my physical mobility and I did actually injure myself. They literally fit the definition you people seem to have for mobility aid.
I'm less able to move my body safely through space when I loose my glasses than when I lose my cane, so yes they are a mobility aid for me. I already struggle with dyspraxia and depth perception.
Nevermind the fact that people with profound vision impairment usually have to pay WAAAAY more for glasses, and we often don't get to pick transitional lense or colors because of the index needed for such a strong prescription (which colored lenses would help my irlen syndrome but I'm too blind to get that apparently)
Pretty much all of the ways glasses are fun and cool are not available to people with insanely strong prescriptions and when they are it's gonna cost you.
If you aren't legally blind then sorry but it's not up to you if someone considers their glasses a mobility aid. I don't call them that for fun or to be part of a "club" or something. I call them that so people don't snatch them off my face to try on and see how bad my eyes are, I call them that so people understand I'm going to need to stop walking so I can clean them because if I remove them while I'm walking I WILL bump into something.

i'm asking you about hemingway what would you like to say?
okay first of all THANK YOU for this ask and i'm so sorry I took my sweet time answering it
anyway I have a lot to say abt this so I hope you don't mind if it turns into a little bit of a rant because YES Hemingway was terrible and kind of a freak in a /neg way but he also had the most insane 22 years of life I have EVER heard of
buckle up y'all :)
also trigger warnings for discussions of war and not super graphic injury, dead bodies, horrifying age gaps, discussion and threats of suicide, and just generally Hemingway being a fucking awful person
guys my sources for this is 4 weeks of reading and documentary watching in English class, don't come at me if this isn't exact because i'm going mostly off memory here
so Ernest Hemingway, if you haven't heard of this guy, is a super super famous American writer remembered for his short stories and completely changing the game in literature. he was also kind of a womanizer and had like 4 wives, he was also homophobic and misogynist and stuff. in my opinion his stories are pretty average although the subtext is usually super interesting & there's a lot of great discussion to be had (I will refer you to this pdf of the complete collection of his short stories)
so anyway, Hemingway was born in 1899 and he grew up in Oak Park, Chicago, Illinois, United States of America as the second oldest of like 9 kids. growing up, his mother used to do a silly little thing where she would twin Hemingway and his older sister as either two boys or two girls, and it would be so convincing that their neighbors were confused and thought she had 2 sets of twins. Hemingway eventually grew out of that and started to hate the practice. he began to idolize his father, who was a doctor and also had depression. Hemingway blamed all of his father's issues on his mother and most people think his hatred from women stems from his hatred of his mother because he wanted to be like his dad so badly
so anyway, as much as Hemingway would grow to have literally 4 wives, he was essentially remembered as being a no bitches loser in high school. he had very few friends, sucked at most sports, was pretty clumsy because of his nearsightedness, and really enjoyed taking solo trips to hunt and fish in Michigan. by himself.
naturally, when he was 17 all he wanted was to enlist in the army and fight in WWI because he was a manly man like that. however, he was also really really scared that the army would reject him because he kind of sucked at physical exertion and was also nearsighted and so he signed up to join the red cross!! he was immediately fucking deployed to the FRONT LINES in Italy and promptly almost fainted upon seeing his first dead body. he decided he wasn't really about that almost fainting life so he decided he wanted to drive the ambulance !! and he did that pretty well. for about 2 weeks
and then he said quote unquote "i'm bored of that shit" and volunteered to BIKE up the MOUNTAINS with a CART full of CHOCOLATE AND CIGARETTES to bring to the soldiers. he was the snack boy. he was the fucking snack boy for the army. and then a mortar shell exploded like. 2 feet away from him and embedded him with an absolute Fuck Ton of shrapnel ! he actually wrote that he felt as if his soul left his body in that very moment and then floated back to him
so that absolute Fuck Ton of shrapnel stayed in his leg for quite a while actually, because when they finally got him to a hospital in Milan, he REFUSED TO BE TREATED. he said there were people that needed the treatment more and that he could live with the Fuck Ton of shrapnel for a little while longer. so anyway when he finally did get around to having like 275 pieces of shrapnel removed from his leg, he had some serious mental illness going on. he went through somewhere around 13 surgeries without any painkillers or stuff to numb the pain because a) he was super depressed and wanted to die and b) was also kind of a masochist and enjoyed the pain.
so Hemingway was in the hospital recovering for a fucking WHILE right, and he meets this nurse. she's 27 (he's like 19 or 20 or something) and her name is Agnes von kurowsky. she's his night nurse and they fell in love. they did some cute things like her leaving her hairpin under his hospital bed pillow and them reading to each other late at night. they also did some not so cute things like her calling him "kid" and also sneaking alcohol into the hospital in the wee small hours of the morning and her getting drunk on the job
anyway, Hemingway finally recovers and shit is going GREAT for him. he's got a nurse girlfriend who is 6 or 7 years older than him who writes him every day from france, and he just got back to Oak Park and the US was so impressed with his masochistic depressed surgery-with-no-painkillers thing that they gave him a medal!! so naturally, he thought he was hot shit for that. he started parading around the neighborhood in his full uniform and charging the residents to listen to him tell completely false stories about the war.
around this time was when shit started going downhill. Hemingway received a breakup letter from France from Agnes, and the letter said that she did love him, but not in a boyfriend girlfriend way. IN A MOTHER SON WAY (eeeeeeeeeeeeew). so he got son-zoned. and he wasn't very happy about that, so he decided to start partying in the woods with minors and going hunting and fishing again to prove to himself that he was still hot shit. and his parents really didn't like the "parading around in full uniform telling lies and then going to party with minors in the woods" schtick, so they told him hey ! cut that out !
direct if somewhat paraphrased quote from hemingway's dad: "shorten your temper, respect women, and fear God"
so Hemingway moved the fuck out of there and found himself ANOTHER girfriend !! her name was Hadley Richardson and she was also really really depressed. on the day of their wedding, Hemingway actually threatened suicide but she guilt tripped him into not doing that and then they moved to France and made friends with a lot of artsy people and Hemingway started writing again. He got a job for a newspaper and tried to get some of his short stories published. he got invited to a conference in Sweden at one point and met a publisher that was interested in his work. he asked Hadley to bring his work up to meet him, so she packed EVERYTHING into a trunk and took it on the train- she had it delivered to her car. when she got there, the trunk was gone. to this day we still don't know where all of Hemingway's early work is.
anyway. let's recap. AT THE RIPE AGE OF 22!! Ernest hemingway was: dressed as a girl by his mom, learned intense hatred of woman at a young age, got no bitches in highschool, got too scared to join the army, drove an ambulance, became the snack boy, got a Fuck Ton of shrapnel in his leg, underwent 13 surgeries without painkillers, fell in love with his nurse, got a medal for masochism, got son-zoned, got told to respect women and fear god, married his first of 4 wives, and lost every single one of his short stories that he had ever written
AND HE WENT ON TO DO MORE INSANE SHIT but this is getting really really long so we'll call this part 1 and i'll reblog this with some other stuff I find insane about him !!
THANK YOU FOR THE ASK SORRY THIS WAS A RANT

10 Words, 10 Head Canons: Tech
Tumblr media
Happy Tech Tuesday
No warnings to speak of here.
Goggles
A side effect of his mutations, Tech is nearsighted.
His first pair of goggles were given by the Kaminoans after multiple failures on the blaster range.
Since then, Tech has modified them to be sturdy and more comfortable to be worn under his helmet.
He is extremely protective of them. To the point that if the need to be removed from his face, they are placed in a drawer in his workbench to avoid potential harm.
His goggles are his security item. Without them, he feels less like himself. His long winded explanations are less often, and the frustration of his nearsightedness would cause him to be moody.
Hands
Consider it a pleasant happenstance, but Tech's hands lend themselves well to his work.
If he is figuring out a project, drumming his fingers on a surface helps him think.
After tinkering for hours on end, he begins to feel dull aches in his fingers and wrists.
He has learned a few stretches from medical professionals and his own research, which helps out when his joints refuse to let him work.
Tech does his best to avoid injury to his hands since the majority of his job relies on them. To do this, he tends to avoid hand to hand combat and place himself in the middle of the Batch's formations.
Technobabble
Tech enjoys sharing his knowledge when it comes to research and his tinkering.
Voicing his thought process, even to those uninterested, helps him work through it and develop contingencies for adaptability.
Tech does not believe in dumbing down his speech. He’ll tell it like it is, unabridged.
Echo is the most likely to keep up when Tech is giving information. This is achieved through time together and that their skills complement each other.
Tech gets a bit of a boost from providing the most accurate answers and explanations. This could be left over conditioning from his cadet years.
Caf
Tech is one of the main consumers of caf among the Batch
He cannot effectively start his morning without it
It’s clearly developed into a habit to the point where if one of the Batch has ruffled Tech’s feathers, a steaming cup of caf could be enough to smooth things over.
On planet, Tech enjoys partaking in how the locals take their caf, taking notes on what he likes and how it could be improved.
He is the main reason the Marauder has a caf maker. This after he had spent his time sleeping next to a projectile commandeered by his brother (thanks Wrecker).
Pacing
If he has the space, Tech may pace when attempting to come up with a solution.
If the Marauder is enroute to their next mission, then he keeps his pacing to a minimum.
Typically, he tends to pace either at his workbench or in the cockpit.
He is convinced that because he is getting blood moving compared to being seated, the pacing helps.
Most of his brothers are fine with it. Notably with it only irritating Hunter if pacing occurs during one of the sergeant’s sleep cycles.
Datapad
Tech’s datapad has been lovingly modified from the original model first provided to him.
This is the second item he would always have on his person (his first being his goggles)
He also has an assortment of light (according to him) reading to keep himself occupied in between missions as well as reference materials for his projects.
His datapad sees the most use compared to the ones provided to his brothers.
Most official correspondence during the war was handled by Tech. He has the quickest typing speed and is capable of not only dictation but also fluffing up Hunter’s reports to their higher ups.
Research
His research topics vary greatly. From schematics of ships to improve the Marauder to simple articles to satisfy Omega’s questions.
Tech researches using a method involving long stretches of intense focus with breaks in between to fetch another cup of caf or rest his eyes.
His go to topic currently involves possible modifications to the Marauder.
He is often called upon to be an extra set of eyes on articles, with Tech often sourcing. If some topics Tech comes across may interest any one of his brothers, he will send copies to their respective datapads.
If Tech finds the topic and research worth hanging on to, he will keep a backup file of it. Organized efficiently of course.
Maintenance
Tech is often one of the most hygienic members of the Batch
Missions don’t offer the most…sanitary conditions, but as soon as the Batch are on the Marauder, he is usually the first to claim the shower.
His skin starts to crawl and he has a hard time focusing on his projects if he’s unclean
He also works with some sensitive components that get rather finicky if dust or dirt is among its circuitry.
When not on a mission and left alone to tinker, hands and gloves are kept clean. His showers are usually during his research breaks to help refresh his mind.
Pilot
Tech is the defacto pilot of the Batch
He is usually the one in the pilot’s seat, but he takes flight shifts with his brothers so he can rest and work on his projects.
Tech is also in charge of Omega’s flight lessons
There is a marked improvement in her technique, but his brothers joke that the arm of the pilot’s seat has Tech’s knuckle marks from a few sketchy maneuvers
A flick of a switch to hand off controls, and Tech can navigate the Marauder out of its steep ascent with ease.
Programming
One of Tech’s hobbies include creation of his own programs and algorithms.
He’s picked up a few coding books to get him started and tends to keep them on his datapad for reference.
Once his brothers caught on to some of the programs he had written in his spare time, they had some requests.
One of Crosshair’s requests was a program that tracked droids killed between himself and Wrecker.
Thankfully, the rest of his brothers’ requests were less intensive when it came to rigging up a system to track weaponry and fisticuffs.

Really sucks knowing that your doctors failed and wasted your money and put you through psychological and physical Hell because they were lazy, bigoted, or didn’t want to admit to not knowing something. Like years and thousands lost along with brain cells, and my body is still falling apart without having language I feel confident using to express what’s happening to me and without creating a treatment plan or plan for diagnosis.
The type of symptoms I have are so widespread and apply to so many different conditions that it could be anything from ME/CFS to cancer to lupus to CNS disorder to endocrine disorder to mixed connective tissue disease to degenerative disc/joint disease to anything else that starts to wear down the body and mind and causes a bunch of weird, painful, gross symptoms expected of someone getting near dying of old age, yet disables 20 year olds in the span of around one year of noticing onset. Anything like that. & they didn’t care 👍
I don’t know how to start again, who to go to, or how I will react if the next doctor I see does or says anything out of line about me or dismisses me as if I’m not paying for the appointment.
Don’t know if I should. Maybe I should rot. Don’t know anything. It doesn’t sound accurate to say I’m Scared of the doctors as much as I’m scared of repeating the past, exhausted. I can’t do anything without help, but where is it? How many years ago now was i supposed to get the first surgery? I’m tired. & the specialists for orthopedics/spine/pain were correct(the only ones who believed me because it’s hard to pretend and get away with not noticing multiple damaged areas and missing structures and multiple cysts with a lower spine needing a sharply torn and dried out herniated disc swelling my muscles and leaving my nerves in constant danger of injury removed and replaced— in documented MRIs). They said that the surgery was high risk at causing a domino effect that repeats spinal fusions over time, but that it was going to happen to me anyway and the degeneration is faster without a fusion/replaced disc(unsure if he was set on a typical fusion through the side of my abdomen or the newer one with the artificial disc that mimics a natural one better. He said he would be making an incision on the side of my lower abdomen but nothing about what he was putting inside of my spine lol or I forgot 🫶 but it doesn’t matter because I have to start over). It’s getting worse and way faster. 12 months before I lose insurance. I’m fucked. It was the worst possible timing. Can’t afford to even see my psychiatrist in a few days that could have me hospitalized or force pills that hurt onto me (yep. he sure can) if I do anything to make him feel I’m too unstable or high risk. How will I afford to go through a process of diagnosing and treating this? Whatever this is.
On top of needing a double mastectomy, thyroid care(if that’s disconnected to the undiagnosed problems lol), 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed, orthodontic surgery and braces to correct my jaw misalignment and save my teeth from being doomed to continue to break, hysterectomy to stop the diseases early that disable and nearly-kill women in my family and cause traumatic birth complications and difficultly with carrying to term anyway, I need multiple less invasive (but equally expensive if added up to the end of them being necessary) procedures for a few organ systems, like. Add physical therapy and psychotherapy and my eyes deteriorating into worse and worse astigmatism with nearsightedness and my nasal structure needs reconstruction to avoid sleep apnea,….
I just don’t know if I’m even supposed to be alive. Who can I make myself into like this? How can I make a life for myself and become the person I want to be?

I just had a random thought, have Kanai ever made themselves glasses before (or gotten humans to do it)? Also, do Kanai make themselves tool at all, like glasses or items that help those that are disabled, or do they not see the point in it? Further more, how do they treat those that are disabled in their society?
So in "modern" times, some Kanai do pursue aids like glasses, but to make glasses big enough for them, they'd have to be extremely heavy and fragile. Additionally, their nearsightedness isn't because of a flaw in their eye structure, it's just because of the natural way their eyes work. If they were going to correct that, they'd loose visual acuity up close, which is usually more important. At most I think a Kanai that really wanted to see long distances would have some goggle-type things that they only wear when they're doing whatever activity requires it.
How an individual Kanai is treated with a disability depends on their family and community. Some are more supportive, some are not. Some Kanai ascribe to a sort of survival-of-the-fittest ideology (they tend to be loners), many (including Ruyak and his family) are basically agnostic and could go either way, but still many more follow something called the Three Tenets:
Everything for all of us
All of us for each other
None mean to die
[these are going to come up in book III]
That second one encourages taking care of each other, so even if an individual can no longer make a physical contribution to the community for whatever reason, they'd still be taken care of. To those who follow the tenets, it'd be shameful to abandon a fellow of any age or ability to their fate.
That being said, some Kanai are loners that don't really enjoy living in groups with others, and they tend to end up passing away at a relatively young age. Because they all live so far apart, a loner who suffers a catastrophic injury and can't take care of themselves may go unassisted until it's too late.
Kanai don't really get critically ill (the magic that sustains their bodies prevents it, though they do age and they can have trouble with things like parasites, poison, and venom) and their injuries heal supernaturally fast, but they can break bones and lose limbs or eyes, and really serious injuries can have lasting effects, especially head injuries. So I imagine there are plenty of disabled Kanai that need to be cared for. Depending on the nature of the disability, it might not be very safe for them to venture far from their home den. It just depends.
I think a blind Kanai wouldn't have too hard a time living a normal life, but a deaf and blind Kanai would need a little more help. They'd still have their sense of smell and touch though, so they'd be able to forage and find food that doesn't run away, and they could set traps for prey. I also think they'd be able to at least partially understand other Kanai's speech through interpreting sensations of infrasound, so they could communicate that way.
An otherwise normal Kanai without a sense of smell would probably need more help surviving than a deaf and blind Kanai, honestly. A lost sense of smell would be devastating. Some Kanai keep roden and direroden as pets, though. Maybe someone with no sense of smell would keep around a sniffing-guide rodi? That's a fun idea.
As far as aids go, crafty Kanai will make aids for each other or themselves, like artificial stone claws for someone who lost their fingers, or a brace made from a tree for someone with joint or mobility problems. There have even been human blacksmiths that make stuff for Kanai in need!
Thanks for this ask! It's made me think.

What is Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome?
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a hereditary disorder that affects the connective tissue in the skin, joints, and blood vessels. It is caused by a faulty gene that leads to a defect in collagen, proteins that add strength and flexibility to the connective tissue in your body.
The disorder can be passed from one parent to a child in either a dominant or recessive genetic inheritance pattern. Both types of the syndrome are caused by a defect in the collagen gene.
Most people with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome have very flexible and stretchy skin that can bruise easily. Some types of conditions cause abnormal scarring, as well.
Many types of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome can cause easy bleeding or rupture (perforation) of a blood vessel or organ, such as the heart or large intestines. These complications can be fatal if not treated immediately.
Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
This type of Ehlers-Danlos causes a weakening of the wall of your heart's largest artery (aorta) and other large blood vessels throughout your body. It can also weaken your uterus or large intestines, so you may develop easy bruising, internal bleeding, a hole in the wall of your intestine (intestinal perforation), and stroke.
These vascular EDS symptoms can be more severe in children than adults. They can also develop kyphosis or scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine) and low bone mass.
Some forms of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome affect the clear covering of your eyes or cornea. They can lead to tearing or rupture of the cornea (bluish tint in the white part of your eyes) and retinal detachment. These eye problems can cause nearsightedness, blindness, and a bluish tint in your eyes.
Other types of Ehlers-Danlos can affect the muscles, bones, and fluid in your body. They can make it difficult to breathe and may lead to a blockage in the airway or lungs, such as a pneumothorax.
In most cases, these conditions are not serious and can be managed with medication or physical therapy. A healthcare team that understands each person's symptoms is key to managing Ehlers-Danlos.
A medical doctor, physical therapist, and dietitian are the primary providers for people with Ehlers-Danlos. These specialists can help you understand your condition and guide you through treatment and management strategies.
The best way to avoid a complication is to follow your doctor's recommendations for medication, monitoring, and physical activity. It's also important to discuss any underlying medical problems that may have an impact on your Ehlers-Danlos condition.
Pregnancy and Birth
Women with Ehlers-Danlos and a related hereditary syndrome called hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD) should talk to their doctors about managing pregnancy. This includes discussing the risks to a woman and her unborn child and understanding the options for family planning.
During pregnancy, a woman who has Ehlers-Danlos and HSD should be monitored closely for complications. During delivery, the baby can become distressed and have trouble breathing.
Most children with Ehlers-Danlos have an inherited tendency to sprain or dislocate their joints. In rare cases, this can lead to broken bones or a spinal cord injury. Fortunately, these injuries are very rare in children with Ehlers-Danlos.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome cause is a genetic defect in the body's connective tissue. These connective tissues provide support and structure to your body's organs, bones, blood vessels, and skin. These tissues are made of collagen, a protein that is essential for healthy joints and cartilage.
People with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome have abnormal collagen. This can weaken the connections in the body's tissues, which makes them unable to keep their shape and flexibility.
It also can make them more prone to injury and other problems, like joint pain, premature aging due to sun exposure, and slow-healing cuts, bruises, or wounds. This can lead to a lot of frustration for people with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and their families.
There are 13 types of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, each characterized by its own set of symptoms. Doctors classify them based on their most notable features and the parts of the body where symptoms appear.
Type I – Hypermobile (hEDS)
The most common form of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is hEDS, which causes overly flexible joints and soft, velvety skin. It is caused by a gene mutation that changes the way collagen is made in your body.
Your doctor will examine your joints and skin to determine if you have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. If you do have this condition, your doctor may refer you to a genetic specialist.

Lasik Eye Surgery
Why is LASIK Surgery deployed?
Tumblr media
LASIK is a safe and effective surgery for correcting nearsightedness and farsightedness. It uses a laser to reshape the cornea so that people can see better with no glasses or contact lenses.
Who Is a Good Candidate for LASIK Surgery?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the best candidate for LASIK surgery will vary depending on individual factors such as eye health and vision history. However, some of the most common reasons why people may choose to have LASIK surgery are because they suffer from nearsightedness or farsightedness (a condition in which a person can see things close but not distant), or due to concerns about their ability to wear contact lenses long term. If you think that you might be a good candidate for LASIK surgery, it's important
What to Expect With LASIK Surgery
There are many factors that should be considered before undergoing LASIK surgery, such as your age and eye health. However, some of the most important things to know about LASIK include:
How well does the LASIK procedure work?
About 95% of patients who have undergone Lasik report excellent visual results. These individuals generally see a significant improvement in their vision, with reduced or eliminated nearsightedness and farsightedness. Some people experience minor post-operative complications related to dry eyes or glare but these are typically mild and temporary. Many patients also say that
Cataract Surgery or Cataract Treatment
Tumblr media
It is a surgical procedure that restores vision by removing the cataract lens from your eye. There are many excellent ophthalmologists in Delhi who can treat cataracts and provide you with stunning restored vision. Here is a list of some of the best eye surgeons in Delhi:
Dr Chirag Mittal – One of India’s most renowned ophthalmologists, has treated thousands of patients over his near 20-year career. He is well-known for his skillful cataract surgery and provides superb results to all his patients.
What are cataracts?
A cataract is a cloudy lens. The lens is positioned behind the colored part of your eye (iris). The lens focuses light that passes into your eye, producing clear, sharp images on the retina — the light-sensitive membrane in the eye that functions like the film in a camera.
As you age, the lenses in your eyes become less flexible, less transparent and thicker. Age-related and other medical conditions cause proteins and fibers within the lenses to break down and clump together, clouding the lenses.
As the cataract continues to develop, the clouding becomes denser. A cataract scatters and blocks the light as it passes through the lens, preventing a sharply defined image from reaching your retina. As a result, your vision becomes blurred.
Cataracts generally develop in both eyes, but not always at the same rate. The cataract in one eye may be more advanced than the other, causing a difference in vision between eyes.
It is generally advised to use eye drops to lubricate your eyes. Please discuss with your eye specialist about which drops to use and how frequently.
What are the types of cataracts?
There are different types of cataracts, which can affect any part of the eye. They can be congenital (present from birth), acquired (caused by an injury or disease), or result from age-related changes in the lens.
Cataract types include:
Cataracts affecting the center of the lens (nuclear cataracts). A nuclear cataract may at first cause more nearsightedness or even a temporary improvement in your reading vision. But with time, the lens gradually turns more densely yellow and further clouds your vision.
As the cataract slowly progresses, the lens may even turn brown. Advanced yellowing or browning of the lens can lead to difficulty distinguishing between shades of color.
Cataracts that affect the edges of the lens (cortical cataracts). A cortical cataract begins as whitish, wedge-shaped opacities or streaks on the outer edge of the lens cortex. As it slowly progresses, the streaks extend to the center and interfere with light passing through the center of the lens.
Cataracts that affect the back of the lens (posterior subcapsular cataracts). A posterior subcapsular cataract starts as a small, opaque area that usually forms near the back of the lens, right in the path of light. A posterior subcapsular cataract often interferes with your reading vision, reduces your vision in bright light, and causes glare or halos around lights at night. These types of cataracts tend to progress faster than other types do.
Cataracts you're born with (congenital cataracts). Some people are born with cataracts or develop them during childhood. These cataracts may be genetic, or associated with an intrauterine infection or trauma.
These cataracts may also be due to certain conditions, such as myotonic dystrophy, galactosemia, neurofibromatosis type 2 or rubella. Congenital cataracts don't always affect vision, but if they do, they're usually removed soon after detection.
What are the symptoms of cataracts?
Signs and symptoms (watch out for symptoms in your family) of cataracts include:
Clouded, blurred or dim vision
Increasing difficulty with vision at night
Sensitivity to light and glare
Need for brighter light for reading and other activities
Seeing "halos" around lights
Frequent changes in eyeglass or contact lens prescription
Fading or yellowing of colors
Double vision in a single eye
How can I prevent cataracts?
There is no one definitive answer, but some tips to help prevent cataracts include living a healthy lifestyle and avoiding smoking, excessive drinking, and using sunscreens that contain harmful chemicals. Additionally, getting regular eye exams is an important step in maintaining your vision health. If you are experiencing any symptoms or difficulty seeing clearly, contact your doctor for consultation on the best way to protect your eyesight.
What’s the treatment for cataracts?
There is no one-size-fits all answer to this question as the best eye surgeries for cataract correction will vary depending on the type of cataract and your specific medical needs. However, some common treatments for cataracts include laser surgery, contact lens removal, and intraocular lens implants.

Sight Care: Maintaining Visual Health
Our vision is one of the most precious senses we possess, shaping how we perceive and interact with the world around us. Effective sight care is crucial for maintaining optimal visual health and preventing various eye conditions that can impair our ability to see clearly. In this article, we’ll explore the fundamentals of sight care, including essential practices for preserving eye health, common vision problems, and strategies for maintaining clear vision throughout life.
Importance of Sight Care
Good vision is essential for performing daily tasks, engaging in activities we enjoy, and experiencing the world to its fullest. Sight care encompasses a range of practices aimed at preserving the health and functionality of our eyes. From routine eye exams to proper nutrition and lifestyle habits, sight care plays a vital role in safeguarding our vision and overall well-being.
Routine Eye Exams
Regular eye exams are the cornerstone of sight care, allowing optometrists and ophthalmologists to assess the health of your eyes and detect any potential issues early on. During an eye exam, your eye care professional will evaluate your visual acuity, check for signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, and assess your overall eye health. Early detection of eye conditions can facilitate prompt treatment and help prevent vision loss.
Sight Care Essentials: Preserving Vision for a Brighter Tomorrow
Healthy Lifestyle Habits
In addition to regular eye exams, adopting healthy lifestyle habits can contribute to optimal eye health. Proper nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate rest are essential components of a healthy lifestyle that can support your vision. Foods rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, such as leafy greens, fruits, and fish, can help protect your eyes from age-related macular degeneration and other eye diseases. Staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet can also promote overall eye health.
Eye Safety
Protecting your eyes from injury is another crucial aspect of sight care. Whether you’re engaging in sports, working with hazardous materials, or performing household chores, wearing appropriate eye protection can help prevent accidents and minimize the risk of eye damage. Safety glasses, goggles, and face shields are essential tools for safeguarding your eyes in various environments. Additionally, practicing proper ergonomics and taking regular breaks when working on digital screens can help reduce eye strain and fatigue.
Sight Care Essentials: Preserving Vision for a Brighter Tomorrow
Vision Correction
For individuals with refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, vision correction options such as glasses, contact lenses, or refractive surgery can help improve visual acuity and clarity. Consulting with an eye care professional can help determine the most suitable vision correction method based on your specific needs and preferences. Regular follow-up visits are essential to ensure that your vision remains stable and that any changes in prescription are promptly addressed.
Common Eye Conditions
Several common eye conditions can affect people of all ages, ranging from mild irritations to more serious disorders that require medical intervention. These include:
Refractive Errors: Refractive errors occur when the shape of the eye prevents light from focusing properly on the retina, resulting in blurred vision. Nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism are the most common types of refractive errors.
Sight Care Essentials: Preserving Vision for a Brighter Tomorrow
Cataracts: Cataracts are a common age-related condition characterized by the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, leading to blurred vision, glare, and difficulty seeing in low light. Cataract surgery is a safe and effective treatment option for restoring vision in individuals with advanced cataracts.
Glaucoma: Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases characterized by damage to the optic nerve, often caused by elevated intraocular pressure. If left untreated, glaucoma can lead to irreversible vision loss. Early detection and management are critical for preserving vision in individuals with glaucoma.
Macular Degeneration: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of vision loss in older adults, affecting the central portion of the retina known as the macula. AMD can cause distortions in central vision and difficulty reading or recognizing faces. While there is no cure for AMD, certain treatments can help slow its progression and preserve remaining vision.
Conclusion
Sight care is an essential aspect of maintaining overall health and well-being. By prioritizing regular eye exams, adopting healthy lifestyle habits, protecting your eyes from injury, and addressing vision problems promptly, you can safeguard your vision and enjoy clear eyesight for years to come. Experiencing Flashes In Your Vision? These Might Be Symptoms of Retinal Detachment.
Occasional threads, flecks, or dark spots drifting across your vision are not usually a cause of concern. However, sudden or excessive eye floaters, light flashes, and darkening side vision require medical attention. These might be the symptoms of retinal detachment, a painless but severe eye condition affecting your retina that detaches from the tissues that support it. The retina is the layer of tissue at the back of your eye that senses light and sends signals to your brain to view things. When it pulls away from the supporting tissues, the blood vessels that carry nutrients and oxygen to your retina are severely damaged.
People suffering from retinal detachment experience a negative effect on their vision. Therefore, they require immediate medical treatment, as untreated cases may lead to blindness. Let's learn more about the risk factors of retinal detachment, its signs, treatment, and more.
How do I know if I'm experiencing retinal detachment?
Symptoms of retinal detachment can occur abruptly and include:
Photopsia (Seeing flashes of light)
Seeing excessive floaters like flecks, threads, lines, and dark spots (happens due to clumping of the vitreous gel inside your eye)
Darkening of your side (peripheral) vision
Blurred vision
Darkening or a shadow covering a part of your normal vision
What are the risk factors associated with retinal detachment?
There are certain risk factors for retinal detachment, including:
Aging
Severe eye injury
Having a family history of retinal detachment
High myopia (severe nearsightedness)
Previous cataract surgery
History of retinal tears
Certain eye disorders like posterior vitreous detachment or diabetes-related retinopathy
Can retinal detachment lead to permanent vision loss?
Retinal detachment is a serious medical condition that requires immediate attention. Damage to the retina usually requires surgical intervention since, if left untreated, it can negatively impact your vision or even lead to permanent vision loss. It is essential to get regular eye checkups to assess your retina. If you have an increased risk or are suffering from retinal detachment, you should get checkups more frequently. Checkups will help your eye specialist properly assess and treat retinal detachment.
Will retinal detachment heal on its own?
A retinal detachment may heal without intervention. However, it cannot repair and reattach itself. Treatment for retinal detachment includes:
Pneumatic Retinopexy
This option is effective for small and easy-to-close tears.
Your doctor will inject a small gas bubble into the eye, which presses against the retina, closing the tear.
A laser or cryopexy device will be used to seal the tear.
Your body will absorb the fluid that is collected under your retina.
The retina will be able to stick to your eye the way that it should.
Scleral Buckle
Your eye specialist will sew a silicon band (buckle) around the sclera (white part of your eye).
The band is invisible and permanently reattaches the retina.
Vitrectomy
This surgical procedure is the most preferred choice, with an 80-90% success rate, and helps repair large and severe retinal tears or detachments.
Your doctor will remove the vitreous gel and replace it with a gas bubble or oil, pushing the retina back into place.
If you notice any sudden vision change or symptoms of retinal detachment, visit your eye specialist immediately. Delaying treatment for retinal detachment may lead to permanent vision loss.

Are there any alternative therapies that may help with retinal detachment?
Laser photocoagulation and cryotherapy are the two alternative therapies for retinal detachment. Both are minimally invasive procedures that can be used alone or in conjunction with surgery for complete treatment.
Laser Photocoagulation
A beam of light is emitted from the laser machine, which burns the area around the retinal tear or detachment to create a scar.
This scar helps sear the tear or reattach a detached portion of the retina.
Cryotherapy
This procedure uses cold therapy over the tear through a freezing probe.
A scar tissue is formed as the area is frozen, which seals the tear.
Conclusion
Retinal detachment is a severe yet painless medical condition. If you notice any signs of retinal detachment, like a sudden increase in eye floaters, light flashes, or darkening of your vision, get medical care right away. Consult your eye specialist, who may recommend some kind of eye surgery or minimally invasive non-surgical procedure to fix a detached retina. Delaying getting treatment can significantly damage your retina, leading to permanent vision loss.
FAQs
How often should you have an eye exam? You are advised to get an eye checkup every once in two years. However, you may need checkups more frequently if you have a higher risk of eye diseases.
Which is the best treatment for retinal detachment?Laser photocoagulation is considered the best treatment for retinal detachment since it is minimally invasive and safe, with a high success rate.

Glaucoma Risks and Prevention
Glaucoma is often called the "silent thief of sight" for good reason; it can strike without warning and without symptoms. It is a complex eye condition that leads to damage to the optic nerve and can result in vision loss and blindness if not detected and treated early. This eye-opening exploration into glaucoma will arm you with crucial knowledge to understand the risks, recognize the threat, and take preventive measures to protect one of your most valuable assets – your vision.
Tumblr media
What Is Glaucoma?Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which is vital for good vision. This damage is often caused by an abnormally high pressure in the eye, called intraocular pressure. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness for people over the age of 60.Types of GlaucomaThe two main types of glaucoma are open-angle glaucoma and angle-closure glaucoma. Open-angle glaucoma, the most common form, features a gradual clogging of the drainage canals, leading to increased eye pressure. Angle-closure glaucoma, on the other hand, is a result of the iris blocking the drainage channels when the pupil enlarges too much or too quickly, a more rare and severe form that demands immediate medical attention.Open-Angle Glaucoma: The Insidious Onset- Often develops slowly - No early symptoms - Subtle vision loss over time - Sudden eye pain - Headache - Nausea and vomiting - Blurred vision - Halos around lights Previous Next Recognizing the Risk FactorsUnderstanding risk factors is crucial in the fight against glaucoma. Regular screenings are particularly important if you are:- Over the age of 40 - Of African, Asian, or Hispanic heritage - Suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease - Having a family history of glaucoma - Excavated optic nerve head (also known as "cupping") - Extreme nearsightedness - Previous eye injury or certain types of eye surgery - Use of corticosteroids, especially long-term - Eye pressure measurement (tonometry) - Optic nerve examination - Visual field test (perimetry) - Angle inspection (gonioscopy) - Thickness of the cornea (pachymetry)

Navigating Your LASIK Surgery Recovery: A Comprehensive Guide
So, you've taken the leap and undergone LASIK eye surgery to bid farewell to glasses and contacts – congratulations! Now, as you embark on your journey towards clearer vision, it's essential to understand what to expect during the LASIK surgery recovery process. In this guide, we'll walk you through the ins and outs of LASIK recovery, offering valuable insights and practical tips to ensure a smooth and successful healing journey.
Understanding LASIK Surgery Recovery
LASIK, short for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis, is a minimally invasive procedure designed to reshape the cornea and correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. While LASIK boasts a high success rate and rapid visual improvement, it's normal to experience some degree of discomfort and adjustment during the initial recovery period.
Immediate Post-Operative Care
Following your LASIK surgery, your eye care provider will provide detailed post-operative instructions to promote optimal healing and minimise the risk of complications. These instructions may include:
Rest and Relaxation
Take it easy during the first 24 to 48 hours following LASIK surgery. Avoid strenuous activities, heavy lifting, and rubbing your eyes to prevent irritation and potential injury to the cornea.
Use of Medications
Your doctor may prescribe eye drops or medications to prevent infection, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. Follow your medication schedule diligently and avoid skipping doses to ensure effective treatment.
Tumblr media
Protective Eyewear
Wear protective eyewear, such as sunglasses, to shield your eyes from bright lights, dust, and debris during the initial recovery period. Avoid exposure to smoke, pollutants, and swimming pools to minimise the risk of irritation and infection.
Avoiding Eye Makeup and Cosmetics
Refrain from using eye makeup, creams, and cosmetics around the eyes for at least one week following LASIK surgery. These products can introduce bacteria and irritants that may compromise the healing process.
Attend Follow-Up Appointments
Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments with your eye care provider to monitor your progress, assess your visual acuity, and address any concerns or complications promptly.
Managing Common Symptoms
During the LASIK surgery recovery process, it's common to experience temporary side effects and symptoms as your eyes adjust to their new shape. These may include:
Dry Eyes: Many patients experience temporary dryness, itching, or burning sensations in the eyes following LASIK surgery. Use lubricating eye drops as recommended by your doctor to alleviate discomfort and maintain moisture balance.
Blurry Vision: It's normal for your vision to fluctuate or appear blurry in the days and weeks following LASIK surgery as your eyes heal and stabilise. Avoid driving or engaging in activities that require sharp vision until your vision clears and stabilises.
Light Sensitivity: Increased sensitivity to light, glare, and halos around bright lights is common during the LASIK recovery period. Wear sunglasses outdoors and minimise exposure to bright lights and screens to reduce discomfort.
Halos and Glare: Some patients may experience halos, glare, or starbursts around lights, especially at night. These visual disturbances typically improve over time as your eyes adjust to the changes made during LASIK surgery.
Eye Discomfort: Mild discomfort, irritation, or foreign body sensation in the eyes is normal during the initial days following LASIK surgery. Avoid rubbing or touching your eyes and use prescribed eye drops to alleviate discomfort and promote healing.
Patience and Persistence
LASIK surgery is a life-changing procedure that requires patience, persistence, and a commitment to following post-operative instructions. While the recovery process may vary from person to person, most patients experience significant improvement in their vision within the first few days to weeks following surgery.
LASIK Eye Surgery Hospitals: Choosing the Right Provider
When considering LASIK eye surgery, it's crucial to choose a reputable eye care provider with a track record of excellence in refractive surgery. Look for LASIK eye surgery hospitals equipped with state-of-the-art technology, experienced surgeons, and a patient-centric approach to care.

Insight into Eye Specialists: Guardians of Vision Health
Eye specialists, also known as ophthalmologists or optometrists, play a crucial role in safeguarding our most precious sense—sight. These dedicated professionals possess specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide array of eye conditions, ensuring optimal eye health for people of all ages. Let's delve into the world of eye specialists, exploring their essential roles, expertise, and the importance of regular eye care.
Expertise and Training:
Ophthalmologists:
These medical doctors specialize in eye and vision care. They have completed four years of medical school, followed by a residency in ophthalmology, equipping them to diagnose and treat various eye diseases, perform surgeries, and prescribe medications.
Optometrists:
Optometrists have earned a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree after completing four years of optometry school. They primarily focus on vision testing, prescribing corrective lenses, detecting certain eye conditions, and providing pre- and post-operative care for surgeries.
Services Offered:
Comprehensive Eye Exams:
Eye specialists conduct thorough examinations to assess vision and screen for various eye conditions such as refractive errors, glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration.
Prescribing Corrective Lenses:
Optometrists assess vision and prescribe eyeglasses or contact lenses to correct refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Medical Treatment:
Ophthalmologists diagnose and treat eye diseases, infections, and injuries. They also manage chronic conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and provide interventions like laser therapy or surgeries when necessary.
Surgical Interventions:
Ophthalmologists perform various surgical procedures, including cataract surgery, LASIK for refractive correction, retinal detachment repair, and corneal transplants.
Importance of Regular Eye Care:
Routine eye exams are crucial for maintaining good vision and overall health. They not only detect vision problems but also serve as a preventive measure against serious eye conditions. Early detection and treatment can often prevent vision loss or halt the progression of eye diseases.
Advanced Technologies in Eye Care:
Technological advancements have revolutionized eye care, enabling more accurate diagnoses and advanced treatment options. From digital retinal imaging to advanced laser surgeries, these technologies enhance precision, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
Specialized Areas within Eye Care:
Pediatric Eye Care:
Specialists focusing on children's eye health address conditions like lazy eye (amblyopia), crossed eyes (strabismus), and refractive errors at an early age to prevent long-term issues.
Cornea and External Disease:
Experts in this field treat conditions affecting the cornea, such as infections, dystrophies, and injuries, often utilizing advanced surgical techniques.
Retina and Vitreous:
Specialists in retinal care diagnose and manage diseases affecting the retina, such as age-related macular degeneration and retinal detachment.
Vision Health Tips:
Regular Check-ups: Schedule comprehensive eye exams at least every two years, or as recommended by your eye specialist.
Protective Eyewear: Use appropriate eye protection during sports, work involving hazardous materials, or activities that pose a risk of eye injury.
Healthy Lifestyle: Maintain a balanced diet rich in eye-friendly nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamins C and E, and wear sunglasses to protect against harmful UV rays.
