We had a good thing, you stupid son of a bitch! We had cancelled shows, we had a lack of good original content, we had everything we needed, and it all ran like clockwork! You could have shut your mouth, coasted on stranger things, and made as much money as you ever needed! It was perfect! But no! You just had to blow it up! You, and your pride and your ego! You just had to be the password police! If you’d done your job and known your place, we’d all be fine right now.

Important Reminder:
When Netflix kicks you off for password sharing, DO NOT resubscribe. We want them to know this is something we hate. They only speak in money.

did a quick search on tumblr and couldn't find anyone talking about this so i guess im the bearer of bad news
Netflix and WIT STUDIO are using AI to generate backgrounds for anime & they're claiming it's because of a labour shortage
ah yes the labour shortage, in animation, the animation labour shortage, the shortage of people who labour as animators, that shortage
the real shortage here is a wage shortage
also Netflix is changing how passwords work so you have to login all your devices to your 'home wifi' at least once every 31 days or the device will be locked out of logging into Netflix until you call the company to unlock it in an attempt to prevent password sharing

I don’t want to make some ableism claim against Netflix but think of how many of us autistic people are going to be affected by losing our comfort shows if we can’t password share and can’t afford Netflix like???? I’m honestly really upset

I understand Netflix’s idea. Right now four people are watching Netflix and only one of those people is paying for a subscription. They want more money. Make it so, to watch their shows, those other three people also have to pay. The issue is so much about it, like everything, tho.
I currently share my Netflix with my grandma. She lives thousands of miles away from me, alone. My grandpa recently passed and she’s been struggling a lot. She barely even knows how to get to the Netflix app on her tv (we made her a little guide with pictures to teach her how to use her remote and navigate her tv) She is not going to pay for her own Netflix account. My two family members with two kids who are on disability and already struggle with money are not going to buy their own account.
They still aren’t making that money from the other people who used my account. Seen a lot of “of course they’re doing this, they’re losing money! which…Is not how that works. Someone not buying a subscription is not losing money. It’s not making more money, they’re getting access to the content without Netflix getting money. But they’re not losing it, because these people never payed in the first place. You know what is losing money? All of your paying costumers canceling their subscriptions because this is stupid.

I'm curious because I canceled mine, but a few people I know who said they would cancel haven't done so, even though the password restrictions are now active where I live (Aotearoa)

okay we have learnt from the Hasbro WOTC drama that we can do the same to netflix, right?
if we all cancel our subscriptions, they'll notice they've fucked up and the investors will want to know what the heck is going on. Because no fudging way I am going to do that weird work around to watch anywhere not at home.
So I'll cancel.

Weekly output: T-Mobile rate reshuffle, WordPress + ActivityPub, Mark Vena podcast, Netflix account-sharing survey
After two immensely-appreciated weeks at home, I’m flying to Atlanta Tuesday to moderate a couple of panels at the Competitive Carriers Association’s conference–the same trade-association gathering that brought me to Providence, R.I., in 2019.
