HEYYY! I have found out i am a THERIAN. I have not forced myself onto this and that it will take myself a lot of time to take this information in. I have beeen watching my thoughts and actions for awhile, and i have made the conclusion that my theriotype is a lynx. I feel emotionally attached to this animal and i feel i have somewhat been in my past life a bridge of one the breeds of a lynx. Any type of cat type of animal. I have mentally struggled writing this post because I have not given myself time to process this huge change of mindset. I will give many updates from now and hope that my parents will accept this new me.
Thank you for your time and hopefully support,
NOOGIE

Therians who mock Therians (young or old) for wearing gear are stupid. I saw a post of an adult Therian mocking two CHILDREN (aprox 11-12) for wearing tails and masks.
The Therian community is already hated enough, for someone to think they are better than another Therian for expressing their Therianthropy differently is moronic.
They also remarked them being “tiktok” therians and “fake” for it. Seriously what the fuck. People like this bristle my fur so much, just no. No.
This goes out to all the Newly awakens. If you wear gear, you are no less or more than a Therian who doesn’t. That goes for the opposite as well. Express your identity however you wish, stay safe out there <3

This is a bit of an unhappy post regarding our communtiy & tiktok.
Whilst scrolling on my FYP, I came across a video in which a therian was talking about 'lycanthropy', as they worded it. It essentially was something like "Is your therianthropy showing too many signs of lycanthropy?" and then the next slide said "Get help as fast as you can!"
While misinformed and just downright odd, that's not what got me.
The caption said "Therianthropy should NEVER show signs of lycanthropy." There weren't many comments, but the few that were there were clearly young members of our communtiy being TERRIFIED of the idea. "I get prey drive sometimes, but it's not bad.. (that's lycanthropy..)"
Obviously I won't post screenshots because they're identifying and this user is potentially just misinformed.
Not only is this kind of thing incorrect and scaring newly awakened beings, it's also erasing an ENTIRE part if our community and placing further stigma on, for example, endels and psychotic beings who identify with the therian label. It's 'othering' those who experience strong instincts and animalistic urges. It's downright seperating an already small community.
What about those of us who physically identify as animals? What about those of us who feel nonphysically, but still wish to call themselves that animal? Tearing apart an already small and othered community just because YOU don't feel that way and then spreading misinformation is downright wrong and harmful.
This rhetoric needs to stop. It's not helping anyone. We all belong here. We all have our rightful place in this community, whether it's more aligned with the human side or the animal side. We all belong, no matter how you experience your otherkinity or therianthropy.
We're a community. Act like it. Don't cast out your physically identifying or otherwise nonhuman siblings like this.
All of us, physically identifying or not, see what you're doing. We see the erasure and we will not stand for that.
if i got something wrong in this post, please feel free to correct me. reblogs and additions to this are more than welcome

I see a lot of therians/alterhumans/etc share feelings of disconnect from this highly visible form of commodified subculture, the stuff with a tinge of consumerism. I completely empathize with them, but I also see the same beings who are taken by this idea that we would be communally better off if the community was more like “how it used to be”. I believe the answer doesn’t lie in preservation, or getting back to community roots. Expression will always find a way, and individualized expression will never be encouraged by the shunning of “new” and the emphasis on“old”.
I believe the answer lies more in channeling these feelings towards accepting and nourishing an evolving community. It does wonders when you have a willingness to ask questions, when you make a point to uplift other community members art, writing, and expression that speaks to you. Comment on the work that you like to see! Message someone you think is cool and see if they want to chat! ask that being with an identity you don’t understand if they can help you learn more about it! Gently steer the newly awakened towards information and different perspectives!
Newcomers need to be shown that there is warmth in the areas of this community that they aren’t yet well acquainted with, that way they can more comfortably participate in the community as a whole; and more experienced beings should be encouraging exploration and uplifting each other. When you invite other viewpoints into the communal conversation, everyone is better for it!🌈

An Identity Without Name
A little while ago, I helped some other folks to coin a new term: Anymic (pronounced ay-nim-ick). The purpose of this term is somewhat paradoxical - it gives a name to identities that have no name (etymologically, anymic translates to "being without a name"). Those of us who coined it, though our experiences differ greatly and our species identities are practically nothing alike, had a few very key things in common:
We know our experiences very well. We have a very good idea of what our species identity is
That species identity does not correlate completely with any species that is known to exist anywhere in the history of this universe or in the known mythology/imaginations of humans
This identity is not a character or species we created in our imaginations, but rather feels like something that did, does, will, can, or should exist either in this world or another - therefore, OCkin doesn't fit
We also expressed frustration with how we are able to introduce ourselves when coming into new alterhuman spaces*. While others are able to be more succinct about their identities - for example, saying "I'm dragonkin" or "I'm a fox therian" - we would have to say something to the effect of "I'm a therian of an unknown species," which gives the wrong idea. It implies that we don't know what species we are, that we don't know what our experiences amount to, that we don't have any sort of image of who we are or what we should be.
The definition we settled on is "An identity that does not possess a formal name (and may be the only one of its kind/type)." As a note, the part about being the only one of its kind/type was added mostly by request of the others who were working on coining this term, but does seem to be an integral part of this type of identity. It was a commonality among all of us who worked on coining the term and the definition. Regardless, one of the most important things about this term is that it insinuates that yes, I do have an idea of what species I am, I do know what my experiences amount to, I have at least some image of who I am or what I should be, there just is no name for what I am.
Of course, this term doesn't negate our potential need to explain our identities further if someone should ask, but it is far easier to say that I am an anymic contherian than to say "I'm a contherian with a theriotype that has no known species name and is not something that is currently known to have existed/currently exist/someday exist, nor is it anything that has appeared in known human mythology/folklore/fiction." Yeesh. What a mouthful.
This is not a term I would necessarily recommend to the newly awakened alterhuman, but rather what I might call a "last resort" term. When you've exhausted all of the options that seem like they might fit, when you've done all the research that you could possibly do, when it just seems like you constantly try and fail to find that one identity that fits - that's when you take on the term anymic. Even more important to recognize, though, is that it's very possible that someday as you continue to search for potential fits, you might finally stumble across something that makes you say "that's it! That's me!" And that's just fine! Anymic isn't a static term that you're stuck with forever, but it's a term that will be there for you when you need it. After all, it's entirely possible that you could find something that makes you say "that's it! That's me!" only to later discover that maybe that doesn't fit either, and you go back to being anymic. The point is, while this is a term that should be considered a last resort, it's also a term that should not under any circumstances be gatekept by age or experience or by whatever one individual considers "enough" research or self reflection.
As for how to use it, it should be considered an extremely versatile term. It can be used on its own - one could simply be "anymic." It can also be used as a microlabel, such as the examples I've already given ("anymic therian"). It could even be used as a secondary identifier - for example, if someone has an identity that seems to be a un-named subspecies of a known species, or is part of a larger category (of whatever kind) but doesn't fit any known identities within that category, they could say they are an "anymic fox therian" or "anymic draconic otherkin." How it is utilized in a line-up of labels is entirely dependent on the individual who uses it, so long as it maintains the definition of being a known, understood identity that simply has no formal name.
I might be biased, but I think this is an important term to add to our general alterhuman vocabulary. Personally, one of the things that made me feel somewhat alienated from the rest of the community is that when introducing myself I have to either give less than the full story by saying that my theriotype is "unknown," or practically write an entire book about my identity. Coining this term with others who have been experiencing the same sort of feeling helped me immensely to see that I'm not the only one with an identity that doesn't have a proper name. To be able to just say "I know what I am, but I just don't have a name to give you to describe what I am" in just one word is honestly game-changing, and it would be incredible to see this term catch on so those of us who have this experience could even more easily connect.
Obviously use of this term by those who have this experience isn't a necessity, but it's an option that so far seems to be appreciated.
*When I say alterhuman spaces, I mean alterhuman spaces in general, not just therian/otherkin spaces. I am well aware that alterhuman =/= nonhuman identity, I promise! This post may be more focused on the nonhuman-type identities, but an anymic identity can apply to just about any identity that otherwise has no formal name.

No hate to these people but uhm, this is very unrealistic tbh imo I feel like people are just being obsessed with the idea of being an animal from a past life or a non human being and just calling it "awakening" I still feel like the teenagers that are "new" to therianthropy aren't listening. People just want new aesthetics and new things to be known for without doing research. It's an identity not playing pretend
Edit: like I said NO hate but this is just my opinion, there's been a lot of "newly awakened" therians recently out of nowhere I just don't really believe it, ofc i am a therian too and I just feel undermined because of the lack of respect people have and lack of research people do

Introduction Post
Hello everyone, this is my side blog where I will post Therian/Alterhuman stuff. I'll start by saying that if you know who I am irl or online, and you know my username on other socials, I'd rather you keep it private.
Anyways, as I said, this specific blog will be dedicated to my Therian experiences and feelings. I'm a newly awakened Therian -it's still weird to call myself that- so I might get some terms wrong as I've been ignoring this part of myself for the longest time, so I've only recently started to do actual research.
My theriotype is an orange and white domestic shorthair cat, as seen by my icon, and my pronouns are He/They. As for my name, I'll go by Max here!
You can send me questions, or tell me a bit about yourself if you want to become friends, but I prefer if you're 18 or older since I'm an adult myself.
With all of that said, please be nice and look forward to some photography possibly? And some of my thoughts. Stay pawesome!

Do you have any advice for a newly awakened Sable therian?
Hi! Congrats on finding your identity! :3
As for advice (a lot of this is general/not sable specific advice):
Try literally anything you want. Eat like a sable, wear clothes in sable colors, try on gear, do quadrobics if you feel like it, etc etc etc. If it sounds fun and seems like it'll help you connect with your identity more then there's no harm in (safely) trying it! (Obviously avoid doing dangerous things like eating raw chicken or trying to jump 3 feet in the air on your first try doing quads.)
Related to the last point, don't force yourself to do anything you don't want to or don't enjoy doing or causes you pain. If quadrobics is hurting your arms or a tail is giving you a rash then stop doing it. That's completely fine and your health, safety, and comfort come first.
Remember that therian social media is extremely skewed in favor of therianthropy, and that all therians have hobbies and interests outside of just being a therian! I made the mistake of trying to make therianthropy my entire identity when I first awakened and I ended up completely miserable because of it - so I try to help newly awakened therians avoid that pitfall lol
Relating to the first point - just... do stuff you want to. Make that stimboard, design that mask, wear a tail, whatever you want. This is a community based around identity and there are essentially no rules (other than the obvious 'don't be a bigot or a creep' lol).
If you're looking for specific gear recommendations, you can find cat mask bases here, (I personally realized recently I don't really like wearing masks but I know other people like them lol) and I'm not too sure on places to ethically source real tails from as all of mine were second hand, so you're probably better off asking someone else. (Thrift stores are a good option if you're looking for fur in general.) You can also find custom animal ears all over etsy, but I can't really vouch for that in terms of quality because I've never bought any.
As for food, Sables are primarily carnivores so you're going to want to lean towards meat-y things if you want a more sable-like diet. I really like rabbit the few times I've had it, and if you want to feel a bit more connected or whatever you can always eat meat off the bone in the form of drumsticks or wings.
My favorite non-meat options are: Mushrooms, berries (including preserves and jams!), nuts like pine nuts (sunflower seeds make a good substitute), eggs, leafy greens such as lettuce, and anything with a crunch to it makes a pretty good insect replacement (or you could get dried insects but. pricey lol). Also I've mentioned this before but I LOVE pasta and noodles because they remind me of worms which is kinda gross but whatever XD
In terms of clothing: THICK stuff helps emulate fur, as does... actually wearing fur (faux or real) (love sweatshirts for this reason). Go for browns and tans to near-black coloration if you're looking for specific colors - really just look up sable pictures and match your clothing to that.
I haven't done quadrobics in months so you might have to ask someone else for advice on that one, however: Go SLOW with it, take your time, don't do anything unsafe, etc. Your wrists are FRAGILE and need to be protected.
That's all I can think of rn - I hope this helped, and good luck on figuring everything out, anon! :3

Actually, I'd like to express my experiences as an alterhuman who was previously antikin. I'd also like to hear from others like this, as I'm sure I'm not alone.
Now, I've known I was a werewolf since I was <8 and an android since I was <13 (or thereabouts). I was not online at these times. So they were just things I felt to be true and kept within myself, except amongst others who were acceptably 'weird' enough to allow me to be 'weird' too.
Even so, I felt they thought I was messing around and not being serious, but to me, expressing that I was a werewolf (this was stronger than the android feelings for a long while) was just telling the truth and it felt good to get it out. It was a similar feeling to what would later happen when I came out as trans. It was about truth of the self.
At this time I also latched deeply onto a lot of fictional characters (none of these would turn out to be kintypes, btw) in a way that may be described as constellic or fictionflickers or otherhearted or some combination of all of these.
Then I did get online. But still I had no idea what 'otherkin' was. Then I got onto Tumblr and I learnt about otherkin, but as it turned out, in the worst way. I learnt because of a blog dedicated to posting 'otherkin cringe'. It showcased only the wildest stuff, the horror stories of the most inappropriate behaviours and logical dissections of why otherkin was bad and why it wasn't what they said it was.
You know the arguments. The point was, as my first exposure, they all sounded really logical and so I believed them. There seemed no shortage of 'bad and cringe' things being done and said by otherkin. At one point I was even convinced that 'otherkin = bad but therians are okay' because of the more spiritual aspect I thought therianthropy had. It made sense at the time. The point is, I became very vehemently antikin.
Not 'go out of my way to harrass otherkin' antikin, but 'long posts and rants on why nobody can be/should be kin' antikin for sure. Very cringe.
All the while I convinced myself that my feelings of being a werewolf and android were different to what otherkin were going through. I didn't bother to try and learn more, because I disagreed with the spiritual and metaphysical aspects I'd already heard and was too bogged down by the ideology against otherkin I'd already absorbed.
And because I had so many flickers and took on briefly so many fictional identities I imposed those feelings on everyone's kintypes. I believed obvious trolls. I believed otherkin were transphobic in their own dysphoria claims. I believed that mentally well people couldn't possibly have such beliefs. etc etc. They had me hook, line and sinker.
Then I met someone who I thought was cool, and they were otherkin, and I got talking to them and I realised how sincere their identity was and how much joy it brought to them to be able to be truly themselves. It reminded me of myself. I opened up about my own feelings and they were taken seriously, fully seriously, for once.
This was the start of a wonderful journey of piecing myself together. Some of them were old pieces that needed to be fully explored and some were newly awakened as time went on. I let myself explore my beliefs and feelings.
Now I realise that yeah, I'm likely what/who I am because of being ND but also I'm happy to state that I do believe that the essence of myself is eternally revolving, the me here is connected to many versions of myself in a non-linear fashion from many universes. So I am, will be, and have been all the things I am. I don't need these things to have evidence of being true because it's harmless for me to believe them.
Antikin still exist and we also have KFFers and it's in the same ballpark. Many will be people who just haven't had a good introduction to alterhumanism. Maybe they're alterhuman themselves, maybe not. I'm not saying give them any time and energy off your own back and waste your time on those who just don't want to hear. I'm just saying that if it feels like somebody is asking a question, even an obvious one, in good faith - your answer could be the start of some serious questioning on their part. I know it was for me.

↟ Welcome ↟
WORK IN PROGRESS
↟ My Therianthropy Journey ↟
Although I experienced shifts and feelings of “otherness” throughout my life and childhood, I properly awakened in 2011 upon first discovering the community. This was the “golden age” of teen werewolves and vampires as a subculture, as well as a lot of overlap between therians and furries. The community back then had a lot more skeptics and “grilling” new members was very common - harshly quizzing them about their theriotype to make sure it was “accurate” and fit the accepted idea of what made a therian correct.
Over the years I’ve watched the community ebb and flow, and in my opinion become a lot more accepting of a diverse set of identities and beliefs about non-human identities and expressions. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the community, especially in the canine-specific circles as an educator and guide for newly awakened canine siblings.
↟ Theriotypes ↟
My personal identity is one that continues to grow and change as I learn more about myself and allow myself the time and patience to get in tune with my non-humanity. But, there are my current thoughts:
Tumblr media
Gray Wolf/high-content wolfdog, with a darker mask/eye circles and yellow-amber eyes. I have memories of living around humans and seeing them frequently, I believe in Alaska around the time of the gold rush.
Tumblr media
Black Wolfdog, with the look of an Alaskan Noble Companion Dog with a white chest spot and orange eyes. I have a few memories of wearing a muzzle and growling at people from within a cage or crate.
Tumblr media
Blue Bay Shepherd (low-content wolfdog) with a solid blue coat and grey eyes. I have a ton of memories of hiking and running around in the woods, wearing a brown leather collar.
