another wip of my upcoming series thingy. titled 'Thalissa: the best stepmother in the world'

"How are you feeling?" asked Thalissa, holding Alex in arms width. She had been rather nervous, if not as Alex, of the whole ball thing. She had to admit, Alex's reputation was not the brightest among the lords and ladies or the Dukes and duchesses. With the death of her beloved Elric, things had been hard for both her and the city. And with how her stepdaughter - more like a daughter for her - was being blamed for all of it, she felt even worse. Thalissa knew that Alex blamed herself even more, though often she tried to deny it. "I'll be fine. It's just my first ball," Alex answered. But her face was saying another thing. "Look, dear." Thalissa carefully tilted her chin to look at her, and her eyes softened with sympathy. She reached out and covered Alex in her hug. "I'll be there with you," she whispered softly into her ear. Alex nodded, closing her eyes. As he leaned into her hug, she breathed in the mesmerizing smell of her fragrance for the last time before heading to their carriage.

Evangeline Marie G. (Guzman) Lakandula - Ah yes, my soft, anxious babie with self-worth issues. She comes from a messy background with a horrible father. She was close to her late (paternal) grandparents and had a very complicated relationship with her late mother. One of her relatives shes v close to is her older cousin, Ethan.

She's a college dropout thanks to her father's bad choices and worked the moment she had a chance to.

After her mother passed, that was it for Evangeline. She kinda needed to go away from her dad and his loud voice and other issues. So she left home and Ethan helped her out before he left for a business trip abroad.

He had her go to a house he owned in Laguna where she could live in provided she just do the cleaning in there. She found simple work that she was qualified for and that was her life for the next few years until a certain bachelor party came into her life.

Diwa Kalangitan M. (Masangga) del Rosario - My chaotic good and very protective MC who definitely rabbleroused in the school she works in.

She was raised in a household that follows some precolonial beliefs and traditions. She has a stepfather who's an albularyo and two half-siblings. One is studying in college, the other is still in high school. She has a close relationship to both her parents.

And she is rather happy with her job as a teacher in a private school. Sure she sometimes goes against curriculum to make sure the kids enjoy her lessons. She's a class advisor also so when she found out their math teacher humiliated one of her students, she confronted said teacher.

Her trip to America is really just a birthday trip until the events of the book started. In the end she ends up in a poly relationship with Nik and Cal. (She does end up pointing out to the boys that she'll have to go back to her work and family at least just to properly resign and find work near them and also to assure her family she's safe.)

Maya Chelidonia C. (Caacbay) dela Rosa - The local tired detective who had to move abroad for their own safety. Love them SM.

Maya is the child of Jaime dela Rosa, a cop in the Philippines who does not follow in corrupt practices and tries to do right by the community. He was killed after coincidentally seeing signs of corruption in the force and wanting to expose it.

After their father's death, Maya also followed in his footsteps. On their end, they wanted to try and do some good in their job but ended up experiencing some discrimination in the work force. Enter them finding the same evidence of corruption that their father found as well. This time they managed to expose the corruption but in the end, one of their few friends in the force warned them that they'll have to flee the country due to some v angry officials.

So they fled with their mother and younger sister.

Their sister became a fashion designer. Maya found work as a private detective and the two teamed up to be able to live a decent life. Their sister travels with their mom on fashion shows. They're fine living nearby their maternal uncle with their dog, Spudge. (He's a scaredy cat and a lil crybaby who doesn't like strangers and by that I mean he starts crying when the strangers notice him. It's not out of trauma, he just likes Maya and their fam more than anyone else and is v shy with others. He's also scared of the dark and loud noises.)

Inocencia Honorata G. (Galang) Valenciano - and finally, my love's embarrassing bby. My Rafael Aveiro romancer. Love her sm.

She and her mom, older brother and little sister ran away from their father when they were a kid. Her parents annulled their marriage after a few years.

Her older brother became the youngest lawyer in the country and had a firm in New York seek him out. This led to him helping Inocencia and her sister (who had skipped grades and managed to enter college the same year as Inocencia).

Inocencia is v non-competitive that she chose De La Salle University while her sister went to their grandfather’s alma mater, University of the Philippines. At college, Inocencia got dubbed as SiaSia because of the repeated -cia in her first name and surname.

The two got accepted into Edenbrook when they were gonna start. Inocencia being 27 and her sister being 25. By then, Inocencia still isn't competitive and didn't sign up for the competition for the diagnostics team but her little sister shoved her to try it out.

"Are you nervous?" Adrian asked, attentively looking at Amy. They were in a private room of his lab, where two beds had been set up for her and Alex. It was a small space but it had everything they could possibly need to assist them if there was a problem. 

"A little." He smiled at her, compassionate and supportive. 

"Everything will be fine. I promise." He tried to reassure her… And himself. "Even Ryder gave his approval." He added, with a slightly sarcastic tone.

"Because Nik is such an expert in the potion terrain,” Alex commented as Nik rolled his eyes while Amy let out a small chuckle.

“There are many things you still don’t know about me, rook.”

“If you say so.” Both women walked to the beds, looking at each other for a moment, before sitting on the mattresses. Amy took Alex’s hand, squeezing it. “I hope this works,” Alex said, her eyes fixed on the woman in front of her. Fixed on her own face. Alex returned the gesture.

“Me too.” Amy sighed. “Drinks on me if it does.” Alex giggled and Amy let a little smile out.

“You got yourself a deal.” They stood in silence until Adrian, gently clearing his throat, called their attention. 

“If you are both ready, we may start.” He pointed to the scientists in the door who were carrying two identical glasses with the potion. Amy looked at Alex again and she nodded.

“We are.” As the liquid ran down Amy's throat, Adrian closely observed her. Amy, from Alex's body, looked at him as she was lying down. She winked at him although her smile was small and nervous. He walked over to her. 

"I'll be right here." He knelt beside her and gently kissed her forehead. "Waiting for you."

"You've been doing that a lot lately." Adrian chuckled, holding her hand. 

"I don’t mind." His fingers softly caress her hair.

“A man who doesn't mind waiting?” She leaned on his touch. “How did I get so lucky?” He softly chuckled again and sweetly smiled at her.

“You are worth any wait, Amy.” She blinked slowly and heavily. “And, believe me, I’m the lucky one.”

"Debatable." His hand cupped her right cheek, softly brushing with his thumb the soft skin under it. “Adrian… If this doesn't work, if anything happens…”

“I won't let anything bad happen to you, Amy. Not ever again.” Her eyes slowly drifted close as the potion quickly kicked on. 

“I just don't want you to feel guilty.” She whispered as her breathing became shallow and her heartbeat slowed down drastically, her skin pale and a bit cooler as he tried to ignore the similarities with the night in the Met, ignoring his fear of losing her again. 

“I won't be feeling anything more than happiness when you wake up.” With a small move of her head, she nodded. “And you will wake up sound and safe, Amy.” He said, desperately trying to believe his own words. “I promise.”

"See you soon." She said in a barely audible murmur.

"See you soon." He repeated as her hand went limp in his hold. He kissed her knuckles and reluctantly freed her hand, standing up.

Nik watched warily while Alex took the potion. He knew it was the right decision, and so far the only possible solution they had found, but, at the end of the day, he wasn’t ecstatic about it. He watched how her lips touched the glass and how in one fast motion, the liquid had disappeared. She lay on the mattress, and after one second of hesitation, he sat beside her. Amy and Adrian were softly speaking beside them so he just focused on her. “Alex…” With a little hesitation, he guided his hand towards hers, taking it as gently as possible. “I will be watching over you, rook.”

“Because you have to?” 

“‘Cause… You are important to me.” He noticed the tiny smile that lifted the corners of her lips and the light squeeze of her fingers around his. 

“Glad to hear it.” She sighed deeply, her head falling to the side as her eyelids felt heavy like she hadn't slept in days. “I know there's a lot we need to talk about… And that a lot has happened lately but… I’m glad you are here, Nik.”

“There’s no other place in the world I would prefer to be, Alex.” Her eyes were finally closed and her whole body seemed drained, looking vulnerable as the day that Thomas attacked her. He stood, almost at the same time as Raines, and walked beside him to the chairs in front of the beds.

A few minutes later, Nik cut the silence. "You know, I didn't know vampires could be so... sappy," Adrian smirked at Nik's words.

"Of course we can. We are not nighthunters after all." He crossed his arms over his chest, never looking away from the two women.

"C'mon Raines, I did my homework." Adrian turned his focus to him and lifted his brow. "Your past precedes you, pal." 

"It might. I won't deny that I have done … dreadful things in my past. Things I'm not proud of, but I deeply regret them." For a moment, Nik saw pain and regret in his face. He wondered if he had the same expression when he talked about his own past. “But I changed. I left all that behind me.”

"Does she know?" Nik asked with a head gesture referring to Amy.

"Most of it." Nik nodded, pensive. “She’s a Bloodkeeper. I wouldn’t be able to hide my past from her even if I wanted to.” He smiled, looking proud of Amy. "And I don’t want to. She deserves honesty." For a moment the only sound in the lab room was the distant noise of the machines from the other part of the lab. Both Amy's and Alex's heartbeats had slowed to a near stop. “Does Alex know about your private conversation with the Fate?” Nik narrowed his eyes with suspicion and Adrian smirked. “I did my homework as well.” He considered Raines' words, assessing his answer. 

“No. She didn’t say much.”

“I see.” Adrian looked at the timer that had been set up above the beds. Only forty minutes had passed and the nerves were settling in by the second. 

Nik stood, taking a few steps around. “Goddammit.” He said, frustrated, stopping in front of Alex's body. “This is torture.”

“I agree.” Adrian put his hands together, tightly, until he sighed and relaxed again. “But unfortunately, there's nothing we can do right now. Just wait.”

“I know that,” Nik said with clear irritation in his voice. “You seem calm, tho.”

“I'm terrified,” Adrian responded with such sincerity that Nik turned to watch him, surprised, as the vampire walked to the side of Amy's bed with a complex look in his eyes. “It's the second time that I have to watch Amy unconscious for hours desperately wanting that she will be okay. The second time I'm scared to lose her.” A deep sigh escaped him. “Feeling powerless to help her.”

“...I understand the sentiment.” Nik put his bow against the wall, near to him but lowering his ward for the first time. “If Alex doesn't wake up…” He ran his fingers through his hair. “I really hurt her, you know? I need to fix it.” He trailed off, with regret. “I can't lose her. Not again.”

“It seems our concerns are similar.” Adrian took off his blazer and loosened the tie around his neck.

“Looks like it.” Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours as time slowly passed. According to Ivy, the minimum waiting time was five hours, and the maximum time was eight hours. If the clock marked more, the results could be catastrophic.

September MC & OCs of the Month - Special Edition: Alex Clarissa Fontaine

Help us in welcoming September's MCs and OCs of the month! That's right, plural! Most months, CFWC highlights one randomly selected MC or OC from our Meet My MC / OC List. (More info here.) But this month, we're doing something different.

In August, @lilyoffandoms hosted a Writers Appreciation Month, and we announced the September Writer of the Month would be selected from its participants. But all participants agreed - Lily deserved the honor! Still, we wanted to do something nice for the eleven writers who elected to participate to help uplift other writers in the fandom. So, this month, each of the eleven participants will have one of their MCs or OCs highlighted.

We will introduce each MC / OC individually, and once all eleven have been highlighted, a masterlist for the month will be created. We hope you enjoy getting to know all about them!

A sweet, bubbly, but fearless woman and future duchess who will do anything in her power to keep the people and her loved ones save.

Do you feel your MC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?

My Main Character is a bit like me from the personality. Silly, cute, likes animals, interested in Fantasy, Royalty & Fairytales, but I'm do not have the courage like her. Fighting monsters? No thanks from me.

What is most important to your MC? What is their motivation in life?

Life isn't just a party. Every day a new adventure awaits with new chance to earn knowledge, experience and honour. Blessed by the holy Fate and our loved ones, gives new hope and strenght.

What are their biggest dislikes? 

Overprotective friends, beeing often underestimated as a damsel in distress

If your MC could change one thing - anything - what would it be? 

Having her dearest father, Lord Elric alive and by her side. She only met him and now he's gone. He sacrificed his life for her.

What is your MC’s favorite quote or song?

I HC that the It Lives anthology, Nightbound, Immortal Desires, Bloodbound, and Wolf Bride all exist in the same universe.

This is because I find the concept of the pack in Wolf Bride not knowing vampires exist to be really funny. Their awareness does not extend beyond West Virginia and the occasional Mothman they must fight.

My Playchoices MCs #2

One of my favourite MC designs I’ve made. I didn’t really like her in-game hairstyles or outfits, so I ended up making everything from scratch. I kept the idea of her black to silver ombre, but on natural hair. And giving her vitiligo was a stroke of genius, if I do say so myself.

Faye is her mother’s maiden name. Shayla’s mom moved to the US from Senegal a few years before she met Elric.

Shayla has mommy issues written all over her. A few years after Shayla was born, her mom got married and she and Shayla’s stepdad had a son. And even though her parents tried their best, deep down Shayla has always known she was the ‘unplanned child’. That is part of why she accepted Lord Elric so fast.

She’s the kind of girl who always gets the best grades but still has more anxiety than any other student in class before the test. She’s very kind and understanding to others, but the harshest critic when it comes to herself.

Shayla’s a little reserved and soft-spoken, but not shy. She has this accommodating presence that makes it easy for people to open up to her. She’s a good listener and you can always trust her to keep a secret.

When Shayla started college, she thought she would become an architect. Instead, she ended up going into architectural history, because she just loved her art history course too much. Works as a teaching assistant and is working on her thesis about Art Nouveau.

When Shayla moved in with Katherine, she was the one who decorated their apartment, start to finish.

She really, really likes old buildings. Not only because she’s an architecture nerd, but also because she thinks that the decay that inevitably comes with time makes them even more beautiful.

Took violin lessons when she was a kid/teenager and still plays it as a hobby. Her favourite music is classical.

Shayla had a tiny little crush on Luc when they met. She thinks Luc knows (which, he probably does) and is terribly embarrassed by it.

Far-sighted. I like to think it as a side effect of her Fae ancestry, almost like her senses are too keen.
