tired of tournaments where the well-known characters always win?

well guess what? in this tournament, NO ONE knows the contestants! not even me, the one running the show! all we've got is these little one-note descriptions that look like someone was trying to brainstorm some ocs, but stopped after a single trait or trope!

...huh? what's that?

well folks! apparently, even our contestants themselves don't have any more information about themselves! so what do you say we give them a hand with that? after every round of eliminations, a form will open for each remaining contestant where people can suggest an additional trait for them! the top ten suggestions for each will be put into an inter-poll (not interpol, FUCK the police) where our followers can vote on what gets added to who! the further a contestant gets in the tournament, the more developed they will become!

as for the grand prize, for the contestant that grows above all the others, what else would we give them but a name? that's right! the victor of our little nobody tournament will no longer be a nobody!

there are a few ground rules to keep in mind, of course!

these are nobodies! that means they don't have any links to any existing media! don't send in "firebender" as a trait, or it'll just get ignored! instead, try something media-agnostic like "controls fire!"

i don't want to see any trait submissions that have to do with pedophilia, incest, -isms, cults, or a contestant being an abuser.

fanart and interpretations of characters during the course of the contest are more than welcome! you can tag them with "#nobody tournament 2023" and i'll be sure to reblog! do keep in mind of course that other people won't necessarily see the characters the same way you do, and it's possible that future traits might contradict your original headcanons.

all characters generated by this tournament are the collective property of tumblr, and are free for anyone to do anything with, though i'd appreciate it if you linked back to the tournament so more people can discover it! and whatever you do, i definitely want to see it!

I was inspired by @the-nobody-tournament's contestant 43 to write a post about selective mutism (SM). This post will include information that I have gathered through research as well as my own experiences. I will include links to some resources at the end.

SM is an anxiety disorder categorized by an inability to speak under certain (or select) circumstances, usually social settings and often when they are expected to speak. The failure to speak can appear as complete silence or whispering, and the person might use non-verbal or non-vocal methods of communication, such as signing, writing, or gesturing. Some additional symptoms of SM include fleeing from stressful social situations, crying, and physically freezing up.

SM is largely considered to be a childhood disorder, usually developing in early childhood and fading out as the child gets older, though it can develop in older persons or persist into adulthood (my own developed in my late teens). As such, most resources focus on SM in children and diagnostic guides refer to the patient as a child and focus on SM related to school.

There is no singular known cause for SM and it is considered to be multifactorial. Some theories include that it is caused by a heightened freeze response linked to social anxiety or by dissociation linked to traumatic stress.

From an exterior perspective it can appear that the person experiencing SM is choosing to be silent. In fact, it was once called elective mutism because psychologists believed that the children were choosing to be silent as a way to punish their parents. Of course, this is completely wrong - in fact, the person experiencing SM often wants to speak but is literally unable to.

When dealing with someone with SM, you should avoid putting them in highly stressful situations and be aware that their failure to speak is involuntary. The last thing you want to do is get mad at them for having SM because that can exacerbate their symptoms and lead to a total shutdown of communication.

Alrighty so since a few people (well, one person) was interested in my @the-nobody-tournament inspired fanfic I thought I'd make a post laying out my ideas for it.

I was inspired by some suggestions/comments saying that they should be in love, and came up with this concept:

16 finds a cursed notebook at a shifty thrifting store, doesn't know that it's cursed, and starts writing a funny story

The perspective switches between 16, and 64 who is the main character in her story

Each iteration of 64's time loop corresponds to a different edit of this story. The cat knows this and doesn't care. 64 can tell something is not quite right, but she tries to pretend everything is fine.

Because its a cursed notebook, the story 16 writes slowly becomes more and more real - with components from the story appearing in the real world

Eventually 16 meets 64 in real life and catches feelings

However, her situation is not so great, because she is ultimately in the wrong reality. I'm assuming she keeps glitching out or something kind of like in the Spiderverse movie

While 16 can control the fictional world to an extent, there's only so much she can do. Eventually she realizes the only way forward is to go back to the real world, but she can't.

Nobody Tournament picrews part 2!

First off, let's welcome to the stage Contestant 28! She's a veteran Tumblr user and has been here since Superwholock was big. Although she started out as a regular fandom blog, their more recent posts have inspired her followers to say, "I understood all these words separately, but not together??" and "This post made me wish I could un-read it." Maybe these cursed posts have something to do with her even more cursed amulet, who knows!

Next we have Contestant 11, making a fashion statement with their many eyes, extra limbs, colorful hair, and fancy wedding dress. We can't hope but notice that they're covered in blood, but we're not sure we want to know why.

Next up: Contestant 25! She is a chronically ill emo girl who usually looks like a regular teen, but not quite if you look at her in the corner of your eye...

Let's give it up for Contestant 16! He's as doomed as one can be, but regardless of how many horrors beyond comprehension end up in his path, he will still steal the show with silly little outfits and a funky hairstyle.

Contestant 35 might not be doomed in the traditional sense, but they're not having a good time either. They have died several times before, and although they come back every time, they know when they will die again. In addition, they have cool fire powers.

Contestant 51 is up next, with spooky glowing eyes and an intimidating aura. She might challenge you to a card game, but if you accept, you probably shouldn't bet any money. Just trust me on this one. As some of my followers might notice this character design was inspired by Barb from Hello from the Hallowoods.

Finally, Contestant 49! She's making an impression with, uhh, actually I have no idea how to even describe that outfit. She also makes an impression by knowing things she shouldn't as a result of her visions about her past lives!

Contestant 3 Friend Group

Proposal - Based on some of the other contestants, it would be objectively funny if the chuuni was the only normal/mundane person among their friends. The only question is who to pair them with.

I think they'd have a good dynamic with 53, 49, 41, and/or 20 (maybe 15 too). I can only imagine the fashion choices and the limited brain cells involved.

So people know a little more about Singapore other than it's a racing track here's a little synopsis of my country.

This is Singapore. We're one of the tiniest countries in the world, about the size of half of the state of Rhode Island. We are so small we call ourselves the little red dot because you gotta zoom real close to find us on any world map.

Despite being so small we are a bustling city in the heart of South East Asia with 5.4 million people calling it home. It's one of the densest populations in the world in one area. But despite that we try our best to make our little island a home.

As we are in the tropical equator, nature and modernisation go hand in hand here. We sometimes are known as the solar punk city for our vertical forests and abundance of nature in the city. Land is very limited when your entire country is one island, so everything in Singapore grows up, from our sky scrapers to our forests.

The same goes for inside our buildings too. As a country primarily used as a business hub, shipping port and flight connection stop between airlines, we have the world's best airports and malls with stunning waterfalls in like this one, with efficient transport and AC in practically every mall you go to.

The streets are safe at night too as the city doesn't sleep even when the sun goes down. The roads are so bright at night the sky isn't even dark at night. Fun fact that weird creature spewing water is the symbol of our country the merlion, and we're one of the only countries represented by a mythical animal.

Singapore's not a perfect country. It's ridiculously hot here and there's lots of rules and regulations and we still need to work on many things like affordable housing and LGBTQ equality, but it's definitely a unique little island in the South East Asian part of the world with great food and great people.

Definitely check out my country if you're ever in the area, we're not just the setting for that one Crazy Rich Asians movie and the F1/Grand Prix.
