what dramas are you looking forward this season ?
The one that I'm most looking forward to is Kisetsu no Nai Machi, while Barakamon sounds like my cup of tea, and I haven't seen any of Nojima Shinji's recent work since Takane no Hana, so Nanyoubi ni Umareta no.

speaking of misinformation, i saw a lot of people say the devs removed handholding between leon and ashley specifically bc they wanted to keep their bond platonic / didn't want people to think it was romantic. finally found the article with this supposed quote and all it said was that one guy veto-ed the handholding bc he "thought it looked like they were too close and didn't like it" which is very vague. i don't care for word of god but i'm curious as to what you think they meant by "too close"
It's impossible to know without seeing what was actually said in the original Japanese.
I also don't care LMAO
The only person who has word of god is Shinji Mikami, and Mikami doesn't give a fuck. Hasn't given a fuck in almost 20 years. Is retired now and played the remake of the game that defined his career and went "I enjoyed that" and then went back to taking pictures of ramen.
Since Mikami's departure from Capcom, RE has passed through so many different directors and producers and dev teams that all have had conflicting visions and creative directions for the series that there is no such thing as "word of god" in Resident Evil.
Dev interviews don't matter because chances are that dev in question won't even be working on the next game -- or, if they are, they won't necessarily be in the same role.
Supplementary materials aren't canon because none of them are written by the same person or approved by the same team. RE doesn't have a Kazushige Nojima like Final Fantasy does, who's writing all the supplementary stuff all on his own and keeping it in line with each other.
So, chances are, all that shit ends up blatantly contradicting what's shown canonically in the games -- because, that's usually what happens. So you can't take it as canon.
(Remember, kids: If it's not said/written/shown in any of the essential canon games or movies, it's not canon.)
And in this case, like. Even without knowing what he meant by "too close" (again, we need to see the original Japanese, because he might have meant "too close" in a very literal sense and having them be that close to each other cluttered the screen and made it hard to see) either way, people saying "they" -- as in, a majority of the dev team -- didn't want the handholding to happen is disingenuous. It wasn't "they." It was "he." Because "they" rendered Leon taking Ashley by the hand in the first place -- he said to take it away.
So, like. Okay. He did that. That's cool. Good for him.
Still kept in all the shit about Leon being the knight rescuing the princess, though. And you know what happens at the end of the story, after the knight saves the princess? THEY FUCK They live happily ever after.
So whatever. If his intention was to not have Leon and Ashley read as a romance, he fucked it up by keeping all of the actual literal romantic elements in it, AND THEN RELEASING A MATCHING SET OF ALTERNATE COSTUMES FOR THEM LITERALLY CALLED "ROMANTIC" LIKE WHAT THE FUCK LMAO THIS JUST OCCURRED TO ME

there's a wonder egg priority audio drama released with the volume 3 blu-ray that feels like an epilogue to a finale that was never produced. So my guess is Shinji Nojima wanted to finish wep with a movie or something but the low ratings of the show in japan hindered that.
You’re a blessing. Thank you. That makes SO much more sense! Someone with that amount of genius could t possibly have left it off like that.
Thank you anon!!

Wonder Egg Priority is an anime series released in 2021 in the fantasy and psychological horror genre. The production, which is not a manga adaptation, is original content produced directly as an anime. The anime producer is Shinji Nojima, who has made a name for himself with his popular live-action series. CloverWorks, which we know from many anime series, undertakes the creative studio task. We also know the studio from the beloved animes Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai and Dakaichi. The anime, licensed by Funimation, premiered on NNS on January 13, 2021. In the last part of the series, a gospel announced the anime would have a new special episode. A special episode was met with the audience on June 30, 2021. However, fans are also excited about a new season. Well, could the anime have a second season?1 What is the plotline of the anime?2 Will there be a second season of Wonder Egg Priority?2.1 When is the second season of Wonder Egg Priority? What is the plotline of the anime?Synopsis: The story begins when our hero, a 14-year-old girl named Ai Ohto, hears a mysterious voice walking around the city late at night. This voice calls him, gives him an egg, and says, “If you want to change the future, you just have to choose now. Now believe in yourself and smash the egg.”Girls who committed suicide on time come out of the eggs our characters find. Our characters have to end the tragedies of these girls in the given time. They believe that if they succeed, they will be able to resurrect a friend who committed suicide on time. The Picture © FunimationVoice actors and Characters: Ai Ohto, played by Kanata Aikawa; a 14-year-old girl with heterochromia (both eyes differently colored).Tomori Kusunoki plays Neiru Aonuma, a 14-year-old girl with a very different skin color. Neiru is very quiet most of the time.Shuka Saitō portrays Rika Kawai, a 14-year-old girl with very different bleached hair with a pink accent line. She is very frank and doesn’t hesitate to say what she thinks of people.Hinaki Yano stars as Momoe Sawaki, a 14-year-old girl with a very prominent sign of beauty and a slim figure. She is often mistaken for a guy and is popular with girls. Will there be a second season of Wonder Egg Priority? As of July 31, 2022, CloverWorks or any related company has not yet renewed the anime for a second season. It is possible to predict the possibilities of the new season of animes. Of course, during this speculation, it is necessary to look at concrete factors. Generally, anime follow mangas, and if there is not enough source material available, we have almost no chance to see a new season. However, the fact that the anime has original content, a script can be written by Shinji Nojima for a second season, independent of a manga. There is no problem in terms of source material, but this is not the only criterion for a new season.Animes are financial products and are sometimes created to support the sales of the light novel and manga they were inspired by, and sometimes profit from direct disc sales and exclusive distributors and viewership. Wonder Egg Priority is not distributed by a giant exclusive distributor like Netflix or Hulu TV. Therefore, eyes turned to disc sales and general popularity for a second season possibility. In order for anime to be renewed for a new season, the sales average is generally expected to remain above 4,000 units. When sales number falls short, the decision committee will not approve for a second season, and the studio will not be enthusiastic about this work. Wonder Egg Priority’s first season of disc sales began on March 24, 2021. The first volume, which sold 962 units, was well below the targets and expectations. Considering the disc sales, a new season is very unlikely. Each anime’s disc sales target is different, but 4,000 is viewed as a success considering an average target. However, disc sales have dropped drastically in recent years, and achieving high sales volumes is difficult even for the most well-known anime. However, disc sales figures are still good data to compare with other anime released in the same period and to see the popularity in Japan.Disc sales of the anime were made in the 2021 winter season, and Wonder Egg Priority sold only 962 units in this period. Despite the decline in disc sales, this sales figure was below the targets. SK8 the Infinity, which went on sale in the same period, managed to sell 7,343 units, and Re:Zero Season 2 Part 2 sold 4,893 units in the 2021 winter season. The anime’s official Twitter account is followed by only 38k people, and it’s a similar situation to disc sales. It seems the anime is underrated in Japan.75% of anime with over 100k followers on Twitter have received a new season renewal once. On the other hand, 50% of anime with 40-100k followers have been renewed at least once.Hovewer, when we look at the Google search data to see the Wonder Egg Priority’s worldwide popularity, we see strong search popularity. So much so that anime is more searched than many popular anime, and the current worldwide popularity is quite enough for a new season. The anime is as popular worldwide as Goblin Slayer and Vinland Saga, which recently received a second season renewal. When is the second season of Wonder Egg Priority? There is no confirmation yet, but if Wonder Egg Priority is renewed for a new season, the production time will be about a year. The best release date forecast for a second season is the end of 2023. Until then, we highly recommend you watch similar anime Angels of Death and High-Rise Invasion. Stay tuned for updates.

WEP author isn’t a bigot
Yes, you hear me. There’s a lot of misinformation regarding the creator of Wonder Egg, that he his apparently a lesbophobe and a transphobe. After episode 10, I honestly couldn’t believe that someone who wrote such a positive trans rep could possibly be that kind of bigot, so I dig up.
The reason why he’s accused of lesbophobia was because of a badly translated interview that is 2 years old regarding another project he made. The interview was specifically about that project and wasn’t meant to be lesbophobic.
About the transphobic accusation, that one was really odd to me given WEP ep 10. Some people literally dig up a 10 years old manga he wrote to prove he was an awful bigoted transphobe and posted a few pages, removing certain from the scene, to paint the manga in a bad light as if it was actively transphobic. The manga in question is Sunu Sumu Muriku no Koibito. The pages I saw looked really taken out of context so I decided to read the damn manga, and guess what? It was all bullshit. There was no transphobia in it. You can read it for yourself, it’s only 6 chapters long. A lot of people assume the manga is transphobic because of the “misgendering” but that’s 100% a translation issue, given pronouns dont work the same way in Japanese. That’s the reason why, whenever a character’s gender is unknown, translators often end up picking a gender for translation sake, because they cant tell just from Japanese text. The fact Nono, the trans girl, is refer as “he” is on the translator only, not the author. Like heck, sometimes she was refered as he and then she within the same page and ever the same text bubble! Thats clearly a translation issue.
A certain twitter user posted 4 pages of a much longer scene to paint the scene as transphobic, but the whole context what the trans girl’s friends trying to convince the entire school to let her wear a female uniform to eleviate her dysphoria, and then right after collected enough money to pay for her gender reassinment surgery. The manga used terminology of its time but it was still very accurate with trans experience and struggle with dysphoria. For its time, especially in Japan, it was a progressive manga.
Painting WEP author as some horrible bigot is just wrong and misinformed. Instead of jumping to conclusion, do your own research. Don’t assume someone who created a show that is clearly trans friendly is actually a bigot because of some out of context stuff, it doesn’t make sense. And even if in the past he might have had bigoted opinions, people can change. If you dig up stuff I said barely 2 years ago out of context you could easily paint me as awful too. Give people the benefit of the doubt and take the time to research because spreading harmful misinformation about people that could be your ally.

Wonder Egg Priority - episode 4 (Shinji Nojima, Shin Wakabayashi)

Several machine and amateur translations of an old interview by WONDER EGG PRIORITY series composer Shinji Nojima have been going around that appear to say some pretty distressing stuff! So we had our team’s native speaker, Chiaki Hirai, look at the original interview herself.
This is her translation (alt text below). While it still reveals some pretty bullshit gender essentialist assumptions (that are in keeping with the lines from episode four that the director stepped in to overrule/decry on Twitter) that definitely deserve criticism, it is worlds different from previous circulated excerpts (which allege, among other things, that this text claims “men and women will always end up together”)--proving how important good translations are to a nuanced discussion of a work and its issues (not to mention, as is made clear with the director statement above, how important it is to remember that collaborative art can often involve artists pushing back on a colleague’s shitty impulses!).
ALT TEXT:
[ I didn't plan on making a love story about two women while working on this script. During a time when women are increasingly too busy to find themselves a boyfriend because of work or because of getting a divorce, it might all end up with two women deciding to live together. I think we're approaching the limits of what a heterosexual relationship can achieve. At its core, I wonder if it makes more sense for two people of the same tribe who understand each other to be together instead of between two beings who can't understand each other at their core. It's an extension of how girls will hold hands and go off to the bathroom together. I wonder if it makes sense that they'd might as well share a good looking guy, too, amongst themselves.]

People in WEP: This writer wrote a very bad story where a trans girl dies at the end of her arc!
Me, who read it because I like pain: Says here she moved to Australia and is planning to marry her best friend. Guess Australia is the afterlife now?
