i think i really need to learn how to cold quit things... one habit i have that really bothers me is checking my phone first thing in the morning bc it's "just for 5 minutes" "just to see if anyone sent me anything important" no bitch literally nothing on your phone requires you to check your phone first thing when you open your eyes!!! stop it

Need to rant.

I spent an hour and a half working on The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. I only got 50 pages in. The reading is easy, but I’m annotating a LOT so it’s going super slow.

But I’m annotating a lot to remind myself of all the bullshit, so I can properly roast it. There are some good ideas and points in there but omg he sounds like an insufferable asshole writing a book for himself, ignoring that other people can have totally valid ways of being. Fatphobic undertones, implying there are definitely good values and like, limited ways to correctly prioritize them. I’m now 45% through. I am hate-reading at this point, and I’m torn between:

do I just want to finish it off quickly from here on out? (he has started going into specific things that are negative that he thinks everybody should value highly, versus talking more about his general philosophy)

Or do I want to keep going through slowly making notes ripping him apart.

On one hand: I’m definitely enraged and I kinda want it to end because it’s so irritatingly wrong. On the other hand: i want to give it such a scathing review because of its wrongness that I want to have everything wrong with it detailed meticulously because I enjoy that level of thoroughness.

I’m hoping there will be less to annotate tbh.

#seriously this dude is on such a high horse #he called everybody who feels less than adequate compared to peers entitled bc he assumed those people expect special treatment #nah some of us may not think we deserve anything at all and expect others around us to give 0 shits and treat us like they do everybody #he pretends like most people have a very shallow understanding of themselves #which is probs true #but the pretending is that he is like in the summit of Mt. Self Aware #when he is like 25% there and doesn’t go any further himself #confuses values and metrics #and while he says we can change both of those he basically only goes into why some values are bad and why his values now are the best #values are not good or bad inherently IMO #but sometimes we do confuse values and metrics #and something we say we value we actually are using as a metric for a different value #or like we have untrue thoughts about how to measure that value #I’ll do another ranty review when I’m done

I have an intimate truth to share: I think Sunday would be a very cute name for a shoni baby who lives on a farm with her two moms. Sunday Shalifoe??? They could call her Sunny!! C’mon it writes itself!! And if she looked just like Shelby?? The material is there!! 😭😭😭

#also I think the idea of the B-side of the wilds (s3-4) taking place in the future and flashing back to the bunker and post-bunker times #would’ve been very interesting if like shoni are together living on a farm with their little baby having this happy private life only to be #dragged back into drama with the rest of the girls who maybe they haven’t seen or spoken to in sometime all because of Gretchen finally #being caught and them having to go to court and we learn through the flashbacks that shoni lost touch but reconnected some time after being #for real rescued and and flashbacks that go a little further back reveal that maybe Shelby kept quiet about something or helped Gretchen ge #away or simply as a reward for not saying something to the fbi back when they were rescued Gretchen gives Shelby Toni’s information which i #the whole catalyst and reason they were able to reconnect and it puts a big strain on their current relationship when it’s revealed cuz #Toni thot their reunion was one of genuine chance like the universe randomly bringing them back together but turns out that’s not true bc #Shelby clearly sought her out and then ofc through flashbacks that go all the way back to bunker times it’s revealed Shelby was working as #confederate which is just another thing she lied to Toni and the others about and right when you really think shits going sideways and thei #marriage is going to implode from all this there’s ANOTHER dramatic reveal which is like the real reasons behind Shelby agreeing to be a #confederate which probably have something to do with Martha and the court case or Toni’s mom or something in the vein and Toni realizes tha #Shelby did it for her/to protect her and then shoni is back on baybeee cuz that’s her baby mama frfr!!!!!#the wilds #long winded and full of holes but that’s all I got #toni shalifoe #goodfoe #shelby x toni #shoni #shelby goodkind #Toni x Shelby #shoni baby

i was talking to a co-worker about how i make dandelion and violet jelly and her immediate response was “…you know dandelions are weeds, right?”

like yeah,, many people see them as weeds(topic for another post) but that doesnt mean im not gonna eat them :)

i was talking with a friend and heard a robin close by and got excited and his only response was “…cool? i mean.. theyre just birds.”

ok maybe, but like, that means spring is coming! and they fucking SING!!! bro that sounds like some cartoon bs but no we just casually have animals that sing and fly and theyre EVERYWHERE!!!

appreciate and protect the world around you. i have been so much happier finding small bits of whimsy and joy than i was looking at every day as another chore. when is the last time you looked at some random thing and wondered about it? when did you last ask a silly question? when did you last take a moment to just enjoy a moment and make an observation?

we should do that more often.

#this isnt to say that shitty things dont exist in the world #unfortunately they are everywhere #however #noticing these little wonders and delights can help us to know that not *everything* is horrible #amd when we see that it gives us hope for a better future in which maybe less things are horrible #it helps us cope with the bad to work towards solving it and making the world better #and we see these little things that are worth protecting #this is a really cheesy post #but i dont care #its true #i am an optimist #and i am optimistic for the future #if more people noticed the little things we could make the big things suck less #yknow?#and i know the struggle #i have depressive episodes that can get really bad sometimes #but being silly and whimsical and appreciative of the world around me has genuinely helped so much #obviously not everything can be solved by gratitude #(tbh the words ‘gratitude’ and ‘growth mindset’ leave a bad taste in my mouth bc of toxic positivity and shit but I DIGRESS)#pls just go look at a flower #or birdwatch #or look at the patterns in the ceiling #or art #or grass #or sand #or leaves #or something #and just appreciate it a little bit :)#tipytalks

posting your artwork publically can be so rewarding and so motivating but most of the time it just results in psychological turmoil inflicted on yourself

In my constant brain rotations of “why are people in the west so hard on mecha aside from the fandom can be a bit unfriendly” I think one thing I realized as much as I hate to say is how mecha is sometimes treated remind me of the constant hatred superhero stuff gets.

It’s such a weird comparison because with mecha I do not know what the root of it was-and I’d love to know why but I feel there’s either no clear answer or there is one and it’s stupid-where as for superheroes in the west while there’s still a dedicated community the mainstream audiences have become tired of them due to over-saturation, which I understand, but it’s caused such a massive dismal to the entire genre of it much like mecha.

People think superhero stories can’t have any substance because it’s all about fighting and not about the characters- yet forget the SIGNIFICANT impact they had to so much pop culture. How superhero stories were rooted within comic popularity, how superheroes inspired countless of stories, even so far as reaching japan since so much early anime was taken off of western media which birthed its own genre of superheroes. It’s no different to how mecha help started up the anime industry making it one of the most important genres to japans history, yet most people don’t know it and belittle it.

Yet in superhero story cases it’s even WORSE when people are against it yet then go to see one superhero movie because it’s animated and put it on a pedestal and don’t bother to try other superhero content even though they consumed is no different from the norm. It’s the exact same shit when people watch eva and then think all other mechas don’t compare to it, when the genre always had darker, mature and emotional elements, just only a select few decide to canter to a audience who doesn’t even accept what genre it’s from which makes it all the more frustrating to deal with.

I’m someone who’s hardly into superhero stuff even if some of it catches my eye but it sucks to see that the situation is pretty identical to how mecha is seen, that I can’t help to feel sympathetic whenever I see some comic book fans upset at the mainstream audience even if they too can be a little hostile.
