introducing ... violet’s demise ! aka grayson aka her big brother she’s been wiring money to stay away in europe <33333

name: grayson swag money jeon age: 22 turning 23 (don’t ask me about his sign that’s for liza to figure out someday <3) gender: cis male; he/him hometown: baltimore, maryland sexuality: bisexual & biromantic

listen i was feeling rlly committed to completing his stats but i’m already over it so don’t ask dont tell xx anYWAYS let’s get on to the juicy stuff hehe

i tend to ramble a lot so this intro is gonna be probably a mixture of paragraphs and bullet points and everything in between but let’s start simple. also i rlly wanna emphasize a massive DRUGS TW bc his character largely revolves around his interest in and addiction to drugs

blackmails

grayson is claiming that he's been in a rehab program for the last year and is now completely sober and reformed when he really was just using the money to party and travel throughout europe.

without his parents paying to support him now, he's had to start dealing to make ends meet and keep up appearances. it’s mostly coke, but he dabbles in harder substances depending on what his connections can get him.

grayson dabbles with calligraphy and was notorious for forging excuse notes and parent signatures all throughout high school and even now sells forgeries for a quick buck. the most notable of these was xavi’s letter of recommendation that helped him get into yale.

grayson is violet’s older brother!!1 yes, that’s right, THE big brother who’s been out of the country getting LIT (and by lit i mean he’s been traveling europe on a series of solo trips w his parents’ money and doin lots of recreational drugs)

i haven’t fully fleshed out the dynamic he has w his parents but just know it’s ,, bad ASDHFJNK basically the jeons treated their children like accessories and expected them to be their little trophies and grayson just was not having that as a kid!!! so he acted out a lot and obviously got himself into a pretty bad scene (thank u goosie) and is basically the bane of his parents existence at this point <3 yet they still try to appease him to keep him under control but that’s for the family task to work out hehehehe

despite hating his parents, he adores both of his siblings. before the drug use started, he was always a big nurturer and would have done anything for either of them......now he wouldn’t be caught dead praising violet but he loves her in secret from afar HSJDFKG

yeah basically he met goose when he was around 15 i think????? and got introduced to drugs around 16 or 17 i wanna say and by the time he graduated high school he was just....a much different person than the soft big brother he used to be. his parents sent him off to europe pretty much as soon as he turned 18 under the guise of going to school internationally, but grayson obviously knew the truth and understood that he was being sent away so he wouldn’t be his parents problem anymore.

he basically spent the last four years galavanting europe and just....trying to enjoy it???? but it’s hard to enjoy an extended vacation when u have no family or friends on ur side anymore </3 he basically used the money to stay in hostels and worked odd jobs here and there to stay afloat and keep supplied w the...special goods....but yeah lots of drugs, alcohol, sex, and recklessness but he DID learn a couple languages??? or at least enough to get through some pretty basic conversations in most european countries so <3 guess it’s all okay then!!!!

anyways idk what else to put here that u won’t just find out in the family task so uhhhhhh idk lmk if u need anything else i guess

present/personality

so now grayson is just vibing at yale obviously ummm he actually got super into writing after high school, especially poetry. he used to carry journals full of just random prose about his addiction and his deepest thoughts, as well as probably some lighter stuff about his love escapades or maybe goose idk...basically he used poetry as an outlet and it allowed him to really ground himself and find his place in the world even if it didnt include who he thought it would SO with that being said, grayson got into yale due to a poetry competition he was a part of. he saw some big fancy competition being advertised and on a whim decided to submit some poem about his struggles with addiction and losing his family (a v raw piece that he didn’t expect to ever see the light of day) and he actually ended up winning! it caught yale’s attention and they invited him to apply and, knowing how much it would probably disturb his little sister, grayson very smugly applied and was pretty stoked to see he got in

because that poem gained such publicity, it was assumed that he was a survivor of addiction and was writing from a sober perspective. he didn’t want to correct anyone, so he just went with it and has basically crafted this story about his massive success and has become an advocate for addiction treatment and rehabilitation. of course, none of the companies that sponsor him or the events that host him as a motivational speaker know that he’s snorting lines in the bathroom beforehand or dealing to half the elites, but that’s between grayson, god, and the blackmailer !

basically grayson showed back up because of violet’s blackmail being exposed. he was off in europe, unable to defend himself, and with a massive vendetta against his family so he decided what better way to reenter society than by publicly outing himself as a martyr <3333 his plan is basically to bash the family name to fulfill whatever angsty coming of age arc he has in store for him to make up for the pain of being sent away .... really angsty yeah </3 rip grayson

anyways yeah he’s a total fake. he’s been using his status as a martyr to his advantage a lot, the best example being his recruitment into the elites. he guilted them into accepting him by discussing the PR benefits of recruiting a member that struggles with addiction and how supporting addiction treatment and second chances would be such a good look for them. like he basically threatened to publicly expose them for denying him due to his troubled past and accuse them of being exclusionary so they said boop ! ur in. now the elites are proud advocates for second chances <3333

i would describe grayson as fearless, overconfident, infamous due to his condition being exposed recently, a little gloomy, he’s kind of just got this chip on his shoulder and feels like he has something to prove....he’s gotta be better than his parents, gotta stick it to them and to violet and to everyone who doubts him. he’s a grumpy guy with a massive vendetta and a need for some kind of justice. he just doesn’t know what that is yet. despite all of the bad, however, he’s genuinely a pretty good guy. he’s really goofy and a genuine person, pretty friendly with literally everyone until they give him a reason not to be. basically, unless you are a member of the jeon family he probably likes you or is at least cordial to you (unless we plot differently ofc but u know). he’s just a big lovable dummy with some sweet drug connects and a knack for poetry. he also knows calligraphy but that’s beside the point .

idk if this is enough to describe him but yeah if u have any questions just let me know hehe

this is probably gonna make things hard but considering violet was just exposed i think that he’s pretty new to yale ???? like probably just transferred in/started this spring semester rather than being here for the entire year/a prolonged amount of time so most of our plots will likely have to be newer/center on him first showing up OR we can establish their connections from pre-europe which is also fine w me....idk i didnt rlly think this timeline through so let’s just plot and see what happens aghbfjnd anyways i included some connection ideas to help us all just in case

wanted connections

i’d say he’s the honorary dealer of the elites aghbdfjn so literally anyone who needs a plug could be a potential connection. we can obviously tweak this and customize it to each character <3

maybe someone who met grayson in europe. they could have travelled together for an extended period of time or even just a brief encounter. he was over there for four years, so the possibilities are endless.

building off the last one, this same connection could work with a romantic interest. maybe they were romantically involved for a time in europe and fell out of touch or maybe grayson/your muse just left in the middle of the night and they never saw each other again until now and maybe there’s some unresolved feelings/one-sided longing or need for closure. it could also be that they just hooked up whenever this person was in the area and that was that, no strings attached.

maybe someone who genuinely believes that grayson is actually sober and really admires his strength and idk maybe they’re struggling w their own issues and seek advice from him or maybe they just make it harder for him to actually do his thing bc they’re constantly around and it’s not like they can catch him strung out and acting up

someone in the literature department or with a background in english or writing. someone he could read poetry to, or share his favorite lines with. someone who’s taken the same professors and can tell him who to watch out for or what to expect. idk i just want him to have someone to share his passions with. maybe a little crush is forming? maybe they’re just friends who share a love of fiction? idk i’m open to literally anything

he’s sort of a motivational speaker now bc he advocates for rehabilitation resources and stuff so like maybe ur muse saw him give a presentation or participate in some kind of seminar and they called bullshit on him after the show bc they were like,,, bro i literally saw u partying w max and avery last weekend what the fuck are u on about and now they could potentially hold that blackmail over his head hehe......

exes plots are always fun we love angst in this house

fuck it let’s bring another family member BHJFNGKM no but grayson rlly is a nurturing guy and like....definitely develops unhealthy attachments to cope w his loss of family so he’d love all the sibling-like bonds he can get to kinda numb the pain of “””””losing””””” violet

friends to lovers!johnny

okay so

johnny means a lot to me bc whenever i have a lot of anxiety i think of cuddling him

just bc he’s rlly big and i would disappear in his warmth

so johnny has a very special place in my heart

anyway to the au

in this au johnny isn’t an idol

he’s a business major at a local college

and listen

johnny

is a dork

he also has no clue what to do when people approach him and say that they like him

this is not a good thing bc people often come up to him and ask him for his phone numbers

and johnny is like I can’t turn them down!! they’re so nice!!!

so he always hands out his phone number

but listen

he NEVER texts anyone back

anyone

bc they’re always asking for dates or smth and johnny is just … no thanks!!! i’m awkward!!!!!

but he thinks even that might be too harsh so he just leaves them on read as if that isn’t the worst thing he could do to someone

so naturally

there is this entire group of people on campus who have liked johnny before and felt wronged by him because of this

and when you transfer to johnny’s college since it’s closer to your job

the “we hate johnny” club immediately snatches you up and sits you down like

listen here new kid johnny looks rlly nice and sweet but he’ll leave you on read like the biggest douchebag of the century

and you thought you had left this kind of drama in highschool

but alas

it follows

but just to get them off your back you sort of agree to “never ever talk to johnny seo under any circumstance avoidable or unavoidable”

which is rlly okay bc he’s a business major and you’re a culinary major and hopefully you’ll never even run into the supposed “biggest douche in history”

you actually forget about the legendary johnny, bc why would you need to think abt someone you’ve never met? you weren’t even sure you’d like him or ask him out, so why did it even matter?

it was all okay until your university had this wierd “college collab” week where two students from completely different majors would be paired together as each each others study partners

it was a way to help students stay connected and also help them learn about other majors besides their own

most students didn’t rlly care abt the program so they just… ignored it lol

like they had their study buddy but they never contacted them and vice versa

you were one of those students

bc why would you need help learning how to cook from someone who had no idea how to cook???? it made no sense

but still you get this phone call from an unknown number and ur just,,,,

“hello??”

and this v awkward chuckle comes across the receiver followed by a deep voice replying

“hi. i’m johnny. i’m your study partner for that thing”

and you’re like dang it bc not only do you now HAVE to do this study partner thing, it’s also w johnny

who you’re assuming is THE johnny you had always been warned abt

“i’m a culinary student” you tell him in a way that says how-could-you-possibly-help-me?

until he replies “ok well I’m a business major, so maybe i could help you work out your inventory and prices?? like say you own a resturaunt in the future,,, i can make you a budget that keeps you from going bankrupt.”

nd that… actually sounds like a rlly good idea and something you could use in the future

so you invite him over to your dorm

when he arrives you kind of just do a double take bc he’s rlly handsome in the sweetest type of way

let’s just imagine this for a moment

i don’t see johnny as someone who would dress up a lot esp around campus or for classes like he doesn’t see the need

but it’s also autumn and he’s really cold so he arrives at your place wearing black sweatpants and this oversized white sweater over it

like it’s so oversized that it shows his collarbones (aka you are blessed™)

nd tbh his black hair looks rlly soft and it’s hanging over his eyes ever so slightly

you kinda have this urge to just push it back behind his ears but you stop yourself bc that would be wierd

he tilts his head to the side and just smiles.

“hi i’m johnny.”

“i’m y/n”

he looks a little nervous, as he shuffles back and forth in the hallway

“are you gonna come in?”

“oh! yeah! sure!”

he walks inside and you realize just how tall he is like,,,, he looks like a giraffe no offence

you guys get to work straight away like you wanna keep this strictly business!¡!

nd because of all the rumors you half expect him to ask you out or smth like that

but he never does????

he’s just helping you figure out a good budget for your future

and you never knew johnny was this complete NERD

he’s got this dorky smile on his face as he’s describing the benefits of loans and leasing

and honestly it’s a snooze fest

but you listen bc johnny is going on and on and he’s not stopping any time soon

until you get up to get a juice pouch or smth idk you’re just parched okay

and johnny watches you for a moment before ducking his head down

“i’m sorry. i’m really boring aren’t i?”

“nonono!! i’m just thirsty!!”

but johnny is blushing and he doesn’t rlly believe you like “c'mon,,, no one likes hearing abt this stuff”

nd he sounds kind of,,, not sad,,, just as if he expected it

you wonder how many people have told him that he’s boring

you decide to cheer him up

“how abt this? let’s take a break from business for awhile and I’ll help you using my major,,,, do you know how to cook???”

“sort of?” johnny says. “I know how to boil stuff.”

and so you decide to teach him how to cook delicious but easy foods (on a budget since johnny seems to love those)

and johnny is actually a lot of fun????

he’s cracking jokes left and right

making puns using the ingredients

and his laugh is loud and dorky and you think you know why all those We Hate Johnny™ clubs fell in love with him

so the food is cooked and the two of you just sit on the floor and eat

“so…can i ask you something?”

“shoot,” johnny sends you a smile and you feel bad for bringing it up

“are the rumors true?”

and johnny is so confused for a moment like “rumors??”

and after you explain he looks kinda shocked and sad

“they think i led them on?”

“but i’m just awkward and can’t talk to them”

he just looks really sad.

“this is why all those people won’t talk to me?”

you feel really bad for bringing it up of course

like now johnny has lost his smile and is just kind of picking at his food

“it’s okay… they’re overreacting obviously. maybe i could help you?”

“how?”

“you can throw a party! invite all of those numbers! of course they’ll come because they won’t be able to resist you, and i’ll keep them there by making delicious appetizers”

johnny thinks it’s his best shot, so the two of you plan a party, and johnny’s huge group of friends help him spread the word.

when the night of the party comes, you and johnny are the first to arrive at the frat house don't act like johnjae wouldn't be the biggest frat boys and johnny is freaking out thinking no one is going to come and he’s just going to be hated by all these people for a small misunderstanding

but he’s easily calmed down when taeyong and yuta enter with a bunch of people behind them, all who you recognize as Johnny Haters.

but johnny puts on an easygoing smile and greets everyone by name, asking them questions about their majors and whatnot

tbh you just kind of admire him from the corner bc johnny rlly hasn't tried to lead anyone on, he is just a giant dork really

he still knew everyone and had remembered things abt their classes like an actual friend would

to see him laugh around with a few girls that had told you how much of a player he was only a few weeks ago made you extremely happy

and lowkey sad

bc now johnny isn't your little secret anymore

now everyone knows how wonderful and nice and handsome and dorky he is

so even tho you’re a bit sad, you stay until the end of the party to help all the boys clean up

and BOY are you glad you did

bc as soon as johnny is done saying goodbye to all of the guests, he walks over to you and cups your face

then he kisses you

and he would've kissed you longer if it hadn't been for taeyong’s scolding

when the two of you separate johnny is just rambling like,

“thank you so much you’ll never know how much this means to me no one has ever done something so thoughtful for me will you please be my girlfriend?”

and ofc you say yes bc it’s johnny and he’s honestly just a big sweetie

so the next day at campus you both walk around holding hands

and everyone is like,,,,, darn,,,, we should've been nicer to johnny,,, then maybe he would've dated us!!1!111!1!!!!

and you’re just like eat your heart out! kisses!

anyways it’s 3am that's why the end of this scenario is everywhere

i really envy how you lay out your comics. was it something you really worked on, or did you always have a feel for it, do you think? do you have any tips for visual storytelling?

okay so standard disclaimers: I have not been through any professional art education program/school/course. we did have art class in primary and secondary school in vn but honestly that ones a sham and condolences if youve ever been subjected to that education. you can do it. government regulated art program and censorship cant stop you you fierce dragons. what I mean to say is that everything I write down here is purely from personal experiences and might actually not work for anyone but me. I’m very sorry for not being able to provide anything better

under the cut bc wow this ramble goes on longer than I thought it would

so my answer is honest to gods I have no real idea. as I’ve stated above, I have no proper methods to art because I wasn’t taught any of that and mostly fumbled my way to this point that I’m at right now, and what I didn’t adopt by accident I found out through the internet. which is a good but not very selective source you know, so that’s that

but I do know one thing tho: almost all of my arts are very atmosphere/emotions-based, since I mostly draw characters/concept-centric stuffs. it’s something I keep an eye on very closely while drawing anything, especially comics. I choose the format and direct the flow of it based on the feeling I want to elicit. if I have to find an example for this, I’d say the orawhistler comic and the karma’s child comic. the orawhistler comic definitely is quieter and has a lot less events than the karma’s child comic, so I chose a more simple and a bit repetitive format, with pretty much the same amount of elements in each panel. the karma’s child comic has a more complicated flow to it, so: full page format which gives me flexibility in panel size and position and contrast between parts. so what I have to say for this is think about whether you comic is more plot- or atmosphere- or character-driven, and plan it around that.

a thing I often find myself doing (and works for me) is to imagine your comic in movie format. this probably stems from watching too many pretentious videos on vimeo and being friend with a frenchy avant-garde hipster lana-del-rey-fan assgawk, but anyhow. this gives you a pretty good estimation of your comic’s genre too: would it be action-filled or horror-oriented or??? I usually get good angles by doing this. this is pretty common in korean webcomics too, like the bong cheon dong ghost comic or well, killing stalking. the full page width panel format goes very well with the cinematic feel.

some other things I think help set up a baseline:

bigger panels with more negative space/wide scenes usually kinda equals more subdued/focus scenes, while smaller/special panels in quick succession give an impression of tension. repetition of panel format is usually used to show detailed reaction/timelapse scenes. mixing them up for contrast is fun too, but be careful with the flow. it’s hard to go up and down all the time

usually a full page should only contain up to 8 panels. or tbh Im just gonna say don’t overcrowd your page. keep things relatively clear

same goes for panels: don’t make them too small or put too much in one panel. think about space for speech bubbles. the 3x3 grid for rectangular panels is good too (gonna need to put a link here when I find it again gosh I need to be more careful with archiving the things I found on tumblr)

there’s a flow in reading. it’s usually left-right -> up-down, so you can keep this in mind while thinking of composition, e.g. put what you wanna be read first near the upper left corner. this is a big help when there are a lot of dialogues in your comics

continuity is important. you can sometimes cheat out of it, but with big elements and the decor you would wanna at least know where things are. I used to draw out a plan for a more complicated set so when I change the angle in the next panel I know what to draw in there. be careful with your characters’ movements too - if you don’t show it in your comic it might confuse the readers as to how their relative positions change.

and tbh no rule is absolute. if your purpose says you break a rule, do it. try it out. experimental art is fuckign fun pls dont deny urself of it if you wanna go for it

so that’s all I have about drawing comics. thank you for trusting me enough to send an ask about this. hopefully I will actually get a proper education at one point and know what I’m doing someday
