personal post that's kinda controversial hence im not tagging it

most of maeglin's story at least in the fall of gondolin is written witch such a clear bias against him that im sad most people don't notice it. one of the major parts for me is where he is compared and contrasted to idril and earendil. maeglin is described as having little love in gondolin and not being liked, and being less fair/attractive and having swarthy and dark skin. and he is viewed as being evil and with orcs blood.

whereas idril and eraendil are described as being fair skinned, beautiful, loved by all, etc. this even extends to tuor.

and a lot of people think of maeglin being jealous of tuor of course, for idril. but i also thought it going back to the bias and maeglin's arrival in gondolin. again, these people who are supposed to see his kin other him, see him as evil and an orc because he is different, just because of his heritage. his mothers owns blood rejects him.

whereas, tuor who literally just got there, is well recieved, loved, and is the opposite of maeglin in all. i would be jealous to.

and also while a huge part of me believes that yeah he clearly betrayed gondolin becuase he was eventually forced to (and he was also extremely young when he was tortued/capture). buuuut i think that toward the end of it all he had little love for a kingdom that judged him for what he was and who his father was, and things he couldn't change. why would he care about people who at the end of the day were basically discriminating against him?

i am actually trying to write an essay on something completely different but my mind keeps coming back to the last jun kasai vs desperado match

it feels so important that el desperado, who has been repeatedly rejected by partners he aproaches with romantic undertones (kota ibushi, hiromu takahashi) and also disrespected by his own peers (his start at suzuki gun), is then shown respect, deemed worthy, through a kiss.

he had his own arc with ibushi which started in bitterness and rejection. they tagged for a little later but it dissipated and they only faced each other much later, being the conclusion of all this a match that was supposed to be ibushi against hiromu, ending in a loss for despy but still respect gained, declared by ibushi.

with hiromu, the issue was another altogether, hiromu hates the person under the mask, someone he knew more about than what he showed the world and threats unmasking, showing the world his true ugly self, while desperado keeps acting like he thinks hiromu is a imature child, even though declaring love for him. at the first partial unmasking, desperado still tries to cover his face, and at the end pretends he is going to take it off only to not do so and says "life is not a fairytail. it doesn't have fairytail endings". however, the conclusion comes in a complete unmasking that he basically shrugged off for not being as important in the moment as his focus on hiromu himself - whose hate gradually dissipates with time.

and kasai, kasai is his idol. their first match, while to protect douki, was all about proving himself - and so he did but also got his jaw broken. and in the second one that mattered, kasai gave him a flower, much like he had given him the chance to prove himself. and the arc concludes with a kiss of respect. and the devolution of the rose, a promise of another match.

there's also something to be said about death drive (and its associations to queerness) and the whole point of that last match being combating that even though desperado only was able to evolve when in an environment in which he embraced the destruction (suzuki gun)

i wish i could change the theme of the essay but i think i'd have to do a lot more of research and actually pay njpw to get details Right and i don't have that time nor that money, but UGGGHHHH

Started writing chapter 84 of a fic I haven’t touched in a while and had to read chap 83 to bring myself up to speed and it was really interesting and so far I’ve read backwards to chapter 50 and the fic is currently 569,578 words so it’s gonna be a while before I get around to writing chapter 84

Just came across the cm ep where Reid calls JJ “borderline r*tarded” and imagining how much JJ would’ve been criticised if it had been the other way around. She’s already hated on so much for just behaving like a human being.

I know! I hate that Reid gets away with so much crappy behavior. It's incredibly unfair and it's actually terrible to show autistic people as being mean or hurtful out of social ignorance. He's very much a stereotype in that way

Kinda weird conclusion but I actually find the character whose name rhymes with foreign to be more bearable to me in Engage bc the significantly more cartoonish world lends itself better to a character who's kind of a prickly douche instead of his home setting where I find him to be mostly needlessly rude and sometimes racist.
