It’s bike maintenance day! 😺🏍🔧

Honestly this is the first time I’ve done more involved jobs like taking apart my calipers and rebuilding them. I have the typical stock toolkit that fits under the seat and I just don’t carry enough repair stuff with me, nor do I want to. I’m finally somewhere that has extra tools I can use. I’d love to carry a breaker bar, a torque wrench and full size sockets to make things easier, but I chose the badminton, book and skincare life 😹

I forgot how much I missed wrenching. I usually just pay for oil changes on the road because I don’t have a drain pan, nor do I want to deal with the logistics of how to drain the old oil or what contraption I can make to catch it blah blah blah.

So I’m happy to be working on my own bike. She is my machine. Don’t be fooled, I learned and am STILL learning how to do this stuff from YouTube University and sometimes I ask mechanics a bunch of questions before I dive in.

If I can can do it, you can do it too.

So I camped in an industrial area for 2 nights. How did we get here? Ridiculous story time! I pumped gas and Freyja started making weird noises and started sputtering. Then she stopped completely and wouldn’t run anymore unless I rode with full choke on. I intended to camp that night, so I had to choose between riding with full choke to go camping, or do the responsible thing and fix Freyja before more adventures. I begrudgingly chose the responsible route 🙀 I could only camp as far as I could push her, so that’s how we ended up here. I set up my tent and went to sleep in front of what I thought was an abandoned office. I was woken up in the morning by the owner’s daughter who said I couldn’t be there, but once I told her my bike broke down and my story, she said I could camp one more night. Bless them. Lucky me there was a gas station and Starbucks 2 minutes away so I could survive. I met a dude in a Kawasaki jacket in Starbucks and asked him for advice. He didn’t know what the problem was and asked what I was going to do. I said I was going to push it 2 miles to a motorcycle shop. He looked at me like I was crazy. He then phoned up his friends at the shop I was going to push my bike to the next day and told me they were going to do a rescue mission and pick me up the next morning so I wouldn’t have to push Freyja for 2 miles. Honestly I was pretty bummed, I thought it would be funny if I did. Wouldn’t it be hilarious seeing me pushing this fully loaded bike going 1 mph around a Round A Bout? There goes that dream. Thank you to The Shed in Hull for pulling this rescue mission and Richard in the Kawasaki jacket. So what was wrong with Freyja? The gas I pumped was contaminated. I’ve never heard of that before. I asked myself what I could’ve done or how I could’ve fixed it myself. I didn’t even know contaminated gas was a thing. If I did, would I have drained her out in the street? Nahh. This had to be done the right way. Has this ever happened to do?
