Day 43

Sun 16th Feb

Travel Day - Lake Nakuru to Nairobi to night bus zzz

Phil got up early to go swimming before the crowds arrived and I happily relaxed with the wifi and room to myself. But theeeeeen Phil ran back excitedly to tell me that I should get up and join him to sit poolside in the beautiful morning sun. OH FFS.

I kinda couldn't be arsed (which I knoooow sounds stupid) but knew I HAD to go now that he'd run all the way back to say it. So I got up and dragged my poor self over to the pool (I hope you feel sorry for me). Despite the altitude making the breathing much harder (or something he said along those lines), Phil bossed 1500km of front crawl, then went to the little gym area to celebrate with 30 mins of picking things up and putting them down again (I think they call it weights).

We cleared the breakfast buffet of all it's potatoes then got packed up to leave for a day of buses. We asked the manager again about the shorts and she said she'd spoken to the hedge trimmer guy who'd found them and 'thrown them away'. Sorry what now?? People do not throw clothes away here. So basically, we're pretty sure he stole them which is annoying. But we'll cope. Hope he enjoys the shorts. In HELL. I’m kidding. I hope they go to a good home and that God never finds out about the theft cos that guy will be in biiiiig trouble.

We went in a taxi to Easy Coach where they'd advised us to go for the ‪12pm‬ bus, tickets in advance not required. Sounded straightforward.

But on arrival, Easy Coach said they weren't sure what time the bus would depart - could be anytime between 12-3 - and that it was potentially full, so they wouldn't sell us a ticket till the bus arrived. Phil was really annoyed by this, but got organised and quickly found us a tuc tuc to go to Prestige buses. Ooh Philly Tours was in full mode here. Turned out there were posh matatu buses that DON'T stop a million times and put people on air seats that don’t exist! Prestige even did the OPPOSITE thing of telling us it would be an hour wait, then after 20 mins it was ready to go - causing us to down our mango juice and coffee and cancel our food order in a panic! But than the opposite though I can tell you.

The vehicle was comfortable but as I put the food bag on my lap I realised the Mexican food from the night before had LEAKED everywhere and the canvas bag was super wet. Plus it smelt kinda like vinegar so I guessed the food had gone to waste annoyingly. Plus on this bus, no one seemed to want their window open which made it SOOO hot. I had to keep asking the woman in front to open it and she would close it after 5 minutes every time. It was a real relief to get out in Nairobi ironically and feel cooler air.

I tried to get Phil to eat the Mexican food but he said no so we walked 10 mins to a LP recommended restaurant called Trattoria and it was super nice. With 3 hours to kill, we were in no rush so took our time with a mushroom risotto and walnut eggplant ravioli. We then shifted into the bar area to watched Aston Villa vs Spurs, much to the Italian owners disappointment (he tried to change the channel to the Juventus game but our waiter forced him to change it back for us ha).

As the light dipped into evening, the streets seemed intimidatingly busy and Phil smartly insisted on getting us an Uber to the bus station drop off. We pulled up to the Modern Coast office but I jumped out to check if we were in the right place and we were not! Thank GOSH we checked as I was able to jump back into the Uber and we went and found the correct place in the safety of a vehicle 😅.

Our ‪8pm‬ bus was already there getting loaded up and the nice staff even let us use the office loos before we left, not that they were fancy or anything, but avoided hunting around for somewhere then paying. We got onto the bus and I looked at the GIANT VIP seats at the front of the bus and realised they were our seats GET IN - One on each side of the aisle. Wow they were MASSIVE and I felt so lucky to have them instead of the small ones. Phil sat in his doing a little dance for a good 5 mins.

The first few hours of the journey were fine for me but when I looked over at Phil I was a little shocked. He was sat there completely topless, sweating. He looked at me in desperation and mounted at me 'I'm so hot'. Yeah no shit mate.

I told him to ask for AC and as soon as he did, the bus guy turned it on and cool air blasted out. What a relief, Phil was a new man. However he soon put his T-shirt back on to the disappointment of all the ladies on board.

When the bus stopped ‪at midnight‬ for a 15 min break, it was important to take the opportunity to pee. This I have learnt in my years of being a travelling scruffbag. But Phil thought it was finally time to tuck info the Mexican food. Brave of him, I thought, but great that it wasn't going to waste. I made him eat it off the bus though as I could already smell it when he picked up the bag, eurgh. It was all vege tho so I thought it must be fine, just a bit marinaded and old. I was proud that Phil was going to give it a go despite the pure acidic pong that surrounded it.

When I returned from the loo, Phil was sat in the outside eating area and looked a little unhappy. He was looking into the ice cream freezer when I got to him. Then he looked at me and said ‘I don’t want anymore Mexican food. It tastes weird’. It was at this point that I mentioned I'd been surprised he'd wanted it in the first place and he was like 'WHY didn't you say that BEFORE?! WHY did you let me eat it?! It was ROTTEN Jess!'. I started laughing and he bought a caramel ice cream to drown his sorrows and take the taste away.

Back to the night bus, just another 6 hours to go...lets hope Phil doesn’t shit himself from the rotten Mexican food eh.

I actually have folders in Spotify for my characters and stories. Each one gets a playlist.

2. What is your stance on endings that don’t end with some hope?

Sometimes a story needs to have a certain ending to have an emotionally satisfying conclusion. I don’t think hope is absolutely required for an ending. I’ve ended stories without hope because that’s how the story ends. If I wrote it to conclude with an upturn, it would’ve been disloyal to the narrative. Like life, not everything ends happily, or with a positive outlook.

If you want it from a more technical perspective, there are three sorts of endings: positive, negative, and neutral. They can mix and match, but these are the three base ones. I tend toward neutral or positive-neutral endings. The best story I’ve written so far has a negative-leaning neutral ending because it concludes with a loss that does not promise hope. Positive endings are not necessary for a narrative, or for a conclusion.

Sometimes you need to write a hopeful ending. Sometimes you need to read a hopeful ending. And sometimes you need to read or write something that ends on a down-note. I know I have.

So, TL;DR, there is no ending hierarchy. It all depends on the reader and the writer, what they need, and what the story demands.

3. What author would you love to hear feedback from on your WIP?

Of literally anyone? Dead or alive? I mean. I’d love to hear what Flannery O’Connor would have to say about my short stories. I try to do a remix-version of her moments of grace in each of them.

4. What is the genre of your WIP(s)?

I mention these on my WIP page!

Most of my short stories are literary and contemporary fiction. My longer projects tend toward low fantasy.

5. How do you come up with new ideas for your WIP(s)?

I don’t have a method or anything for idea generation. My brain works in the background while I’m doing other things, so I’ll be washing dishes, or brushing my teeth, or writing something else, and an idea goes HI HELLO WHAT ABOUT THIS HUH? and I scramble to write it down.

Most of the time, my story ideas come from cool sentences I think of while observing. That sounds super weird and nerdy, but it’s true! When I’m bored or need to occupy my brain or just sorta feel like creating something spontaneous, I’ll look around and figure out how I’d write about a certain thing in the vicinity.

Some examples of this from my phone notes:

“Laughter echoing through a cave, bouncing off the walls, the gift of hearing it over and over until it fades like gentle waking”

“Cheeks baked pink from the flush of her modesty”

“The last remnants of home, the dirt hidden beneath their fingernails”

“Headlights flicker between the gaps in the barrier like a slipstream of stars”

Ya know, stuff like that.

Sometimes, if I’m stuck while writing and need a thought, I look at the plot and think up complications for my characters to face. That’s how I figured out how to make Lithium 100% more plot relevant. I thought, okay, so she has this role right now, what can I add to make her stand in the way of X plan while also being an asset to Y? And boom, idea generated and problem solved.

6. What do you use to keep all your writing on? (Scrivener, Google Docs, good old pen and paper…)

I use Scrivener for all my main writing. I have a ton of phone memo notes for ideas on the go. I have a notebook full of random stuff for when I’m blocked and need to hand write something.

7. What gave you initial inspiration for your WIP(s)?

H2H: There was a publisher who had a call for shapeshifter stories, and then I missed the deadline so I decided to try for a zine instead, then I got rejected, so I made it into my own thing.

AOPC: I needed to flesh out a piece of my homebrew DnD world, so I started worldbuilding, then it was my turn to turn in a story to be workshopped in my writing class, so I wrote a thing set in the village about the tribe and it all spiraled out from there.

FF: I had an errant thought about the script that hero and villain stories follow and wrote a thing about what would happen if one of them decided to deviate from it and BOOM the plot hit me like a semi truck.

Almost all of my short stories start with a sentence I think sounds really cool, a tone I want to try to capture (ex. the feeling of standing inside an old cathedral), or the ending moment of a character arc (I tend to work backwards).

8. How long have you been working on your WIP(s)?

I’ve been working with Heart to Heart since November 2018. I started thinking about Fish Food like 3 months ago I think? And I got the idea for All Our Painted Colors 3ish years ago, but it started as a short story that I thought about expanding about 8 months ago.

My writing process starts with a long period of thought percolation before I write anything definitive down.

9. What was the first thing you came up with for your WIP(s)?

H2H: The fact that the main character is an apothecary who uses recipes from historical documents to brew things and lives in a small town, and that their love interest changes shapes in some way.

AOPC: That the tribe is a society based around body paint, art, preserving their personal history, and stories. But mostly paint.

FF: The hero danging over a pit of hungry piranhas and asking the villain a question that throws off the whole “death threat” vibe.

10. Have you considered Hogwarts houses for your characters? If so, what are they?

Nightmare - A Hufflepuff who asked to be in Slytherin and the hat said “yeah okay”

11. What do you find easiest to write? (Description, dialogue, etc.)

Interiority! Free indirect discourse! Unvoiced character brain thoughts! Which I guess means description?

Writing dialogue sucks old car tires!

@azawrites‘ Questions:

what’s the best part about your writing style? I like how I build up to emotional punches. It’s like walking up a ramp, but in a literary way. And at the top of the ramp you either get a gut punch of feels or an ice cream cone.

do you write on the computer or on paper? I do most of my writing on my laptop because my hands can’t write fast enough to keep up with my brain. My typing is way faster. If I’m having trouble getting an idea down, or the tone of the writing lends itself to being handwritten (idk how to describe this, but sometimes words just gotta be scribbled, ya know?), I’ll hand write it in pen. I don’t use pencils anymore because I wasn’t allowed to in college and it kinda stuck.

what are your favourite books and why? Oh, no, there are too many. So I’ll just say my top book: The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien because of how it deals with stories and grief and remembering, the fact that it’s a story cycle (which is very cool), and the way he writes - it’s beautiful and sad and messed up and poignant. I love it.

why did you start writing? I’ve answered this before, but there was never really starting point for me. It’s just something I’ve always done.

why did you continue writing? Because I had too much fun to stop! I also get creatively constipated, I guess is how I would phrase it, and need to have some sort of narrative outlet or my brain gets really mad at me.

where do you usually write? Pretty much anywhere, but most often at my desk. I think I need a taller chair, though...

can you describe your favourite piece (written by you) in one sentence? Let’s get authory with this one: The teacher hands out the tests, multiple choice this time, but when the stapled packet slides across your desk, there’s something odd about it, something that brings the war to life inside your head, a long-forgotten voice that speaks the souls of the soldiers and tells their stories from the annals of history. Or: A multiple choice test about WWII that tells the story of 4 men from Company B from enlistment to the end of their campaign.

what’s one cliche/trope you overuse, but still like anyway? It’s a trope when it comes to my own writing, actually. Person Sits Alone in the Dark and Contemplates. I love it, I abuse the hell out of it, and I will never stop.

what music do you listen to when working on a WIP? Depends. I have a go-to Writing Flow State song, playlists to help me get in the right head space when writing certain characters, and playlists that help guide the tone of a story. I can never listen to movie or video game scores because the association of song and cinematic moment is too strong for me.

have you ever dreamed of a fictional character? Uh, I have the occasional nightmare about Kokopelli? Does that count?

what’s one thing that makes you automatically dislike a book? Overly pretentious first person POV prose (and I don’t mean purple. I mean a character who - honestly and without a hint of satire - thinks like a writer from the 1920s who just discovered what “paid by the word” means and believes they’re the wisest human being in the universe and everyone who doesn’t agree with them is the basest of idiots - barf). Gratuitous female violence. The use of the word “loins” outside of an animal context. Everything about The Beginners by Rebecca Wolff.

@inexorableblob‘s Questions:

Which of your characters could you write as twice their current age? Oh, man, I think writing Iron Will in his forties or fifties would be really cool. It’d certainly give the story a new commentary twist.

Which of your characters could you write as half their current age? (I’m not gonna cheat and say Mel, I promise.) I think writing a 30yo Treena would be very cool. However, writing a 13 or 14yo Lithium who is just learning how to use her super powers would be WILD.

What big city would your characters do best in? London? New York? Tokyo? Mexico City? Rio? The Fish Food characters would all do best in New York or London, since they’re very close to Conover. Lithium would prefer Rio, though, and Babylon would lobby for everyone to move to Tokyo. The H2H characters would do best in Mexico City or London, depending on who decides to take charge and teach everyone the local customs.

What would your characters do if they were in a small rural community that was attacked by underground worms? This is giving me too many ideas for H2H. Gemma would be a little bit furious, since she hates having to get rid of animals, especially when they’re invasive. If the worms just minded their own gosh dang business then everyone could live in peace. If we’re talkin’ normal sized worms, like worm-sized worms, then Gemma would develop a pesticide that wouldn’t kill them, but force them to the surface where they would then be stunned by whatever weird solution Mel comes up with. Then the town would have a Worm-Off, where the person who collects the most worms wins free pie for a year, courtesy of Harry’s. If we’re talkin’ DnD-style Purple Worms, like Beetlejuice worms, then Mel would take over. She’d help organize an evacuation and steal Oz’s gun, just in case. Then she’d do some spoilery things with Gemma assisting.

What is the worst place where you’ve ever wanted to write? Probably while I was taking the math section of the SATs. Kinda inconvenient, brain, thanks for that. Other terrible places: mid job interview, in the middle of an empty street at midnight, anywhere I’m sitting where I have terrible posture, watching a slam poetry event in a very crowded bar, etc.

What’s the most uncomfortable subject you’ve ever written about? I’ve written a little bit about hate crimes and loathed every second. I’ve written a character actively contemplating suicide (he was a WWII soldier) and that was not fun at all. I mean, I also wrote a paper about sexy (somewhat graphic) wlw poetry for my Sexuality class, which a lot of people would be uncomfortable with, but I thought it was a very good collection. Go read Marilyn Hacker’s stuff, it’s good.

If you had to change the ending of any famous novel, which would you pick? The Great Gatsby. We don’t end with the green light, screw the green light. Gatsby wills all of his possessions and wealth to Nick and Nick becomes the next James Gatz. But this time around, he pines for the man who was killed in the pool just below his balcony while pretending to love Jordan, who finds out and amicably marries him because 1920s. She then uses Nick/Gatsby’s money to purchase an automobile manufacturing company and makes cars in every color but yellow. (Gotta maintain that color symbolism for F. Scott, I guess.) Nick discovers Gatz’ old bootlegging and illegal activities buddies and starts up a criminal empire. He and Jordan become the biggest, queerest, most spiteful and angsty crime bosses in New York. Nick makes it his life’s mission to take down false accusers, vigilante style. The car manufacturing company is what they use to launder money. Daisy divorces Tom because they’re both terrible people. Daisy takes her daughter and moves to California. Jordan sends Daisy’s daughter money secretly, about a hundred dollars a month. The last line is something about how Gatz was always reaching out and chasing green, but because of him, Nick is steeped in dark, bloody red. I would then write a sequel about Nick and Jordan and their crime empire that spans the East Coast. God, I hate this book.

If you had to change your life, what would you change without regret? Start therapy way earlier, 100%. That would have saved me a lot of nonsense.

If the end of the world where scheduled a week from tomorrow, what would you do? Would you tell anybody? Everybody? Keep it a secret? Assuming this was legit and the end of the world was actually happening, I’d probably try to tell some big-shot geologist or something, hoping they spread the word. Other than that, since debt won’t be a thing, I’d take the people I love on a killer trip around the world.

What would you do if a wizard offered to cast one spell for you, but your worst enemy got the same spell? Hmmm. I’d ask them to cast the Self-Realization spell, so they would instantly become aware of the effect their actions have on others and know exactly how terrible they’ve been to other people their whole life. Maybe then they can be a better person. My anxiety makes this spell ineffective on me, since it’s already there! Thanks, brain!

Which would you choose, never eating in the same place, always eating the same meal, always eating with the same people, or never eating with the same people? I’d choose always eating with the same people. I like frequenting restaurants I like and eating different things. I don’t think I could deal with only eating the same thing/off the same menu forever. And I have bad social anxiety, so constantly eating with new people would probably short-circuit my brain eventually. A good meal in good company is pretty great, though.

@sunlight-and-starskies‘ Questions:

What is your favorite genre of music? I’ll always be a rock fan at heart. Right now, I really like folk rock and any kind of music that sounds like it has history behind it.

What are your favorite words? Illustrious, shimmer, soliloquy, incarnate, bound, and many more. Also most Yiddish curses.

Describe your ideal vacation. Somewhere cozy where I can explore and chill at my leisure. A week of artsy events in the city. Exploring landscapes in the country.

If you could have any fictional creature for a pet, what would it be? Why? Pegasus! I can ride and they can fly. We’d make an excellent team, and where we’d go, we wouldn’t need roads.

Which fictional universe would you live in if you had to live there for the rest of your life? Logic dictates the Star Trek universe, since I’d probably be an average civilian. Post-scarcity society? Sign me the hell up. My heart, however, is screaming ROHAN.

Favorite childhood toy? Uh... I honestly can’t remember.

What is your aesthetic? Good smelling old books with doodles and notes in the margins, a pile of unfolded clean clothes on a chair, a stack of handwritten papers perched on the corner of a desk, the smell of breakfast cooking when you wake up, the immediate “woops” shock the moment you trip over something you should’ve moved earlier.

Tell me a random fact about your current project or you. About me: I have a birthmark that kinda sorta looks like an elephant. About Fish Food: The Coalition knows what happened to Hydrophase. So does Sparkplug.

Are you an early bird or a night owl? Night owl, all the way. I like the idea of being a morning person, though.

What is your favorite food? Pasta! Or any kind of Asian food.

What is your happiest memory? Oh, geez. Ummm. When I was little, I would curl up in my grandpa’s armchair and eat Burger King breakfast sandwiches on Saturday mornings.

How long have you been a fan of Inazuma Eleven?

Oh gosh. How much time ago was it… 5 or 6 years I think. It’s just, it’s been very active around these years, then I moved to other interests. But recently it’s been a pretty hard time for me, so going back to old “childhood” fandom has been really a blessing. Because IE is an anime that’s just so enjoyable to watch, I don’t have to think hard about it, it’s just so refreshing…

How did you find out about Inazuma Eleven?

TV mostly. I was bored and scanned through channels and stumbled upon Inazuma Eleven and just, found it really interesting. It was around episode 40, where Raimon is battling Epsilon and Fubuki was starting to have problems with his double personality, and I thought “Huh, that character is interesting”, so I checked the anime on wikipedia and went through 126 episodes in a month. And then bought the games and rewatched IE two other times in the span of a year. So yeah. You could say I “came for fubuki, stayed for everything”.

Favourite IE Character(s)

As you might have guessed, Shirou takes the top spot, along with Endou, Gouenji and Kidou.

Favourite IEGO Character(s)

Tenma and Kyousuke. Maybe also Hakuryuu. I have to rewatch Go and finish Galaxy to be able to really tell.

(Yeah I know I just listed protagonists. I just… get really invested in their story, they always end up my favorites)

Least Favourite Character(s)

I don’t know, Fuyuka maybe? I think she’s a bit shallow… But there’s no character I really hate.

Favourite OTP and ships?

Yeeeeeaaaaaah, I… don’t really ship. Not my thing, really.

Favourite BROTP?

Break Trio! And all siblings relationships are fantastic. Also I like the juxtaposition set by the narrative between Fubuki and Gouenji, and Kyousuke and Hakuryuu. It’s a bit of partnership/rivalry I dig.  Also first years Go; Tenma, Shinsuke and Kyousuke. They’re fun. Captains and childhood friends Endou and Kazemaru and Shindou and Kirino are also fun. Also Endou and Natsumi, lol.

If you were in a team of your choosing, which school?

Raimon, because I’m that shallow because they’re the heroes DUH. Also Oumihara because that will be a lot of fun.

What position would you be playing?

In real life, I’ve been a Goalie the few times we had to play soccer in P.E.. So it’s either that or midfielder, because I would love to be able to control the ball and the field like Kidou or Tenma do. It’s cool.

Favourite hissatsu move(s)?

Uhmm uh… Hard… Let’s go by categories:

Catch: God Hand because it’s just… iconic. Also the one with the Anchor from the Pirates in Go because lol. And Shinsuke’s Miximax hissatsu. Block: Snow Angel, Deep Mist (so fancy) Dribble: Heaven’s Time, Meteor Shower, Look! An UFO! because that’s the best thing I have ever heard of, and Soyokaze Step (I still, have no idea how he manages to move like that. Soyokaze Step is a hissatsu I never get tired to watch) Shoot: Fire Tornado and Eternal Blizzard and Inazuma Break because Iconic. Bicycle Sword because I can’t believe that’s the name of your strongest Hissatsu, Kyousuke. Also God Break and White Hurricane because Wow. Ryuusei Blade because it really looks hard to pull off. Like, you can see Hiroto struggling. And Space Penguin because lol. Also Crossfire.

There’s definitely more but those were those I could think top of my head.

Favourite Season?

Oh gosh, can’t really choose. Depends on mood. Let’s see:

IE:

FF Arc: Most fun. Nothing’s really complicated, just hella fun. Aliea Arc: Most Heartbreaking. Damn those emotions. Also all characters introduced in this season are great. This season feels like an adventure trip, like if the FF Arc was school, this is summer camp. FFI Arc: Hard to really say, but… I feel like my babies grew up ya know? And they are ready to take over the world. The feeling is hard to explain, maybe makes me feel very proud? To have seen my babies come this far? Also very fun like FF, but more serious as well. GO:

Holy Road: Wow, just the perfect mix of emotions, nostalgia and fun? Definitely the most emotional of Go yet. My favorite of Go for now. Chrono Stone: Most crazy. Pleased the history nerd in me. I feel like there’s a lot of missed potential and the ending disappointed me, but still fun. It’s definitely my favorite Game tho. Galaxy: I’m like, halfway through, so it’s still a little early to judge. Did not not like it as of yet.

Favourite Episode?

In IE, Episode 5 is hella fun. So is Episode 70-71. The match Raimon vs Epsilon around Episode 40 are really emotional I loved them. Other uhm… can’t tell at the moment.

In Go, I need to rewatch to really say, but where Tenma figures out Gouenji, where he first realized Soyokaze Step while arguing against Shindou (that was INTENSE), Endou’s first appearance? Also Chrono Stone’s first episode is so heartbreaking holy shit.

What does Inazuma Eleven mean to you?

It’s just, so stupidly fun. It’s one of those things I don’t have to think hard about liking. It’s just so simple and fun and was such a big part of my childhood, it just, always cheers me up when I’m feeling down.

I mean, when I first thought of the trail mix thing, I was definitely thinking of Stiles and Jackson. Then I thought, wait, that whole family is made up of dumbasses, assholes, and dumbass assholes. It really could work for any combo of them. Hence the more open-ended suggestion. And I mean, some of the dog treats we carry could easily be mistaken for regular snacks anyway (hell, there’s one brand looks like a Teddy Graham, but is all bland fruit flavors.) Also, now you’ve got me super nervous with that latest hint. Doubt about what, exactly?… There are so many potential options, some of them definitely more fraught than others. Should I stock up on more coping consumables?

Hope you enjoyed your movie. Today I’m opting for Winter Soldier, because while I may not be able to muster up any patriotism for America right now, I can always manage it (among myriad other emotions…) for America’s Ass. And that movie is not only amazing, but comes with a bonus of 3 total Caps in it (technically.) Though I can literally never watch it without my brain at least once going “hey, that’s the nurse from American Werewolf in London!” (the Security Council lady), which is apparently only entertaining to me, but I don’t care.

Had another thought brought on by too many Tasty videos (I know, I have a problem, I’m just not ready to deal with it yet.) I know we’d discussed Chris kinda being the main cook of the three, as well as making the occasional fancy pastry and probably the more regular desserts. Peter I can see being the one to make the more elaborate, fancy cakes and pies for special occasions, because he has a better grasp of how to extra, but classy about it. Like, Chris will handle it if they need bulk amounts of things made for a bake sale (though others may chip in to help), while Peter will make it if they need something attention-grabbing for like a raffle or something. Now, normally Noah doesn’t bake much outside a few handed down holiday recipes (he can very rarely be convinced to make some ridiculously delicious triple chocolate chunk cookies that he refuses to share the recipe for, but it takes a lot of convincing to outweigh Stiles’ potential tantrums about healthy eating. [Mostly Stiles is mad because he REALLY wants the recipe, but clings to the easiest excuse]), but the idea occurred to me that maybe while he’s stuck at home more during the latter part of his pregnancy, he develops an interest in bread-making. He already has some experience with dough from his family’s pierogi recipes (and he has a babka one he’d loved to try if he felt more confident, so), he can take rests while the dough is proving, he finds the kneading very meditative (and he certainly has the arm strength for it), and just mostly finds he rather enjoys it. And the family certainly enjoys the fruits of his labors. After the twins are born, he starts branching out into different, fancier kinds as the mood strikes him, and Peter gets very used to coming home to a house that smells of fresh baked bread and home cooked food, underlined with the scents of his mates and pups. He finds he adores it on an almost spiritual level.

I…I think that was everything? I’ll probably think of something as soon as I submit this, I usually do. I hope you’re feeling better, and that writing has gone well today (and that you found some good games. I had a number of friends talking about Steam’s sale [they apparently like to look through all the super cheap stuff for the so-bad-they’re-good kinds of fun.]) Did you know Keahu Kahuanui does/has done cosplay for Assassin’s Creed? And Cody Christian and Tyler Hoechlin both did voices for the FF7 remake? (You probably did, but the fact that Derek Hale voiced Sephiroth will never not be funny to me, so.) Actually, there’s another costume idea - video game characters (I admit you probably have a far better repertory of known characters to pull from than I do. I’m a casual gamer at the most generous.)

But anyway, hugs to you and Mo, good vibes and (hopefully) helpful inspiration! Can’t wait to see what kinds of hints we get next!

Ok it’s 3 am, and I just finished some Detroit become Human on PC so whoops. (Already owned it on Ps4 but the Steam sale was too good. Three games for the price of one) Ah well, it’s Saturday (Sunday now?) and I have today off too.

I mean, that’s fair. A lot of dog treats honestly look like something I could eat when I’m not paying attention and just shoveling snacks into my mouth. (Also on another note, I may have eaten the dog’s kibble as a young child and my brother pulled a prank on me when I was an older child and fed me kibble without me knowing.) So I can definitely see how this family filled with dumbass assholes would pull it on one another. And it’s a fantastic image! XD

I debating on what kind of warning I should give this. Because I’m hoping it’s a bit impactful/emotional, but it’s not about the boys. I think that’s the best warning I can give it. It’s about a character in the main story that isn’t the main ship. But it has unforeseen consequences/implications? So maybe getting some good snacks is not a bad idea. Is that vague enough while also being considerate enough?

Huh actually, I might put in the set up for another reveal about another character. I’ve been working on that one for a while. (Nothing bad, just one of those, huh okay neat! things. I hope.)

Sully was so good, holy shit. I definitely enjoyed that one! Can highly recommend it actually. And yeah, as far as the MCU goes, WInter Soldier is one of my absolute favorites. I think for me it’s Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, Winter Soldier. In that order. They’re just really good movies and definitely some of the funnier/better movies in the MCU. Although with Black Panther I did go: Lion King did it! a couple of times. But that’s okay, I loved the 90′s version of that too, so.

And Winter Soldier is def worth it for America’s ass, hmmhmm.

I love that headcanon, I can just see Peter coming home after some grueling day at the office, the house smells like fresh bread and pastries and freshly cooked lasagna, there’s the soft arguing of Stiles and Noah over recipes, Chris is just pulling dinner out of the oven. Allison has set the table with Lydia. Danny and Jackson are watching over the twins while Scott and Malia are keeping Ben entertained. And Derek is helping Chris with Dinner.

Their house has never been more lively and Peter’s living for it. Makes his entire day filled with dumb businessmen worthwhile because this is what he gets to come home to.

Did you know Keahu Kahuanui does/has done cosplay for Assassin’s Creed? And Cody Christian and Tyler Hoechlin both did voices for the FF7 remake?

I did not actually, on both! (I’m terrible at voices/names, it’s honestly a thing.. I ain’t proud of it.)

But that explains why Sephiroth sounded so low key familiar to me. I couldn’t put my finger on it. Will definitely have to revisit that now. And I will say, Cody does a great job as Cloud.

Oooh that’s a good one though. Hmmm I feel maybe the FF franchises would have enough characters to do group cosplays. Or Kingdom hearts. The Witcher might have a few.

Oh! Or a bunch of ‘adventurers’ for the group. Like Peter could be Nathan Drake. Chris could be Joel Miller. Noah could be Arthur Morgan. Jackson could be Cloud. Malia could be Lara Croft. Allison could be Clementine (TWD). Stiles could be Sora (KH). Lydia could be Aloy (Horizon Zero Dawn). Ben could be Atreus (God of War). Scott could do Link (Zelda). And they could go as this rag tag group of adventurers.

There are probably better ideas, but it’s almost 4 am and my sleeping pills are kicking in. So I’m gonna go catch some sleep.
