Ok idk if any of you are watching Only Friends the Series but I need to post about my thoughts because I simply don’t have anyone to talk to about this and this last episode GAGGED me:

- NICK BETTER MAKE BOSTON PAY🔫

- I am a Top DEFENDER‼️ my poor man is starting to have real feelings for Mew and is getting manipulated by Boston (but also what’s his beef with sand?)

- listen y’all… I love ray, but Sand is my favorite character and I feel like I’m watching a train wreck about to happen (side note I defend Sand no matter what‼️)

- I’m all for the idea of the couples having open endings EXCEPT for SandRay purely because FirstKhao are my faves and I need them to have a happy ending🥲

I also really enjoyed Nick’s POV during this episode because he was presented as a character that would seem like collateral damage, but he is much smarter than Boston, and has pieced things together way more quickly than I thought he would😚 *Nick is my baby pls*

The next episode is going to be MESSY and I’m super excited to see how Nick will navigate knowing what he knows but also his attraction to Boston🫢

so ive finally got back to watching only friends (its been like 3 weeks) but in my defense i did start college and move continents so its all good

anyways, i just finished episode 3 and besides the obvious boston being a slimy little worm once again and manipulating the fuck out of everyone around him (oh nick sweetie you'll find someone much better i promise, and i cant believe i actually care so much for top)

i do also have to give my thoughts on the last sandray scene

first of all, i do not believe that ray was at fault or in the wrong for leaving sand. end of sentence. i do believe that they obviously wouldve ended up sleeping together again if they had continued, and it would most likely end up with them having to talk about their relationship (especially given sand's note about never sleeping more than once with someone he wasnt dating), but i do think (hope) that they'll still get to a conversation place eventually

and the thing is, even tho ray does/did like mew (seems hes getting over it, he seems to know that it never would've happened and is much more actively interested in sand), going to help mew out when hes literally locked out of his place IS THE GOOD FRIEND/PERSON THING TO DO. has nothing to do with any romantic feelings he may or may not have for mew, its literally just being a good friend

and thats why sand, tho he is upset, still says that he doesnt have a reason to be. which is also perfectly valid, like you can dislike something while still knowing that it was the correct thing

Only Friends: Episode 3 Preview (aka Boston's Reign of Madness)

So this week's upcoming instalment is where this train to hot-mess-ville is well and truly about to kick off. Boston is really gunning for first prize in the chaotic red flag olympics for fuckery and shit-stirring. We get a brief but loaded glimpse into the many possible showdowns and throwdowns.

Boston VS Mew (Competition)

In Episode 2, Boston pointedly stares at a photo he took of Mew and Ray. From what we see, he chooses to incriminate his two best friends purely in a bid to drive a wedge between Mew and Top.

I really can't decipher what Boston's end goal is here. Is this purely, 100% egotistical, petty jealousy due to Mew 'one-upping' him for once, when he's usually the person who gets all the action? I don't necessarily think Boston wants a boyfriend in Top, so this is a lot of chaos to cause for very little, especially as Top seems rather indifferent about Boston other than sexually. I think Boston's absolutely right in that he and Top are two peas in a pod - they love being at the 'top' of their game, and they hate being bested. If he thinks this is going to get him exclusivity rights to Top junior, he's insane. He's clearly not bothered that his two best friends may end up as collateral in the process.

Top VS Ray (Rivalry)

This is a classic case of we both hate each other but we're trying to keep it on the downlow for Mew's sake. Ray's jealousy is more valid, because it's partly fuelled by genuine concern around Top's motives. Whereas Top's jealousy feels possessive. The way he interacts with Ray is a clear indication to 'back off, you're stepping on my property'. With Boston's false intel, he's only going to feel more justified to be combative with Ray.

Top also makes a comment about Sand's band which sounded derogatory. Either a snide little dig at Ray (already knowing he invited Sand), or just a plain dig nonetheless. If so, I'd highly welcome Ray to defend his boyfriend's honour. This is an altercation I would truly love to see. I want Ray to go full feral on this man. Because I swear to god Top, if you try to hurt my son, I will yeet you into the goddamn sun. (Force is doing a stellar job of plastering that incredibly punchable smug-ass expression across his face. My hands are itching to smack him one).

Sand & Ray (Friends or Boyfriends?)

The preview is cut to look like Nick finds Ray and Sand kissing in the car. But the shot of Nick is at the hostel. Whereas Ray and Sand are kissing in the garage outside Sand's apartment. It's unlikely anyone is watching them at that location.

Ray drives Sand home after being slighted by Top, and tries to seduce him (and unsurprisingly succeeds). This is also the scene where Sand says "I'll never take someone like you as my boyfriend". (Pretty presumptuous of you to assume Ray would want to take you as a boyfriend, unless he's the one to suggest it? Unlikely). If Ray's proposition breaks his personal rule of "I've never slept with anyone who's not my lover more than once", then in Sand's head he's going to start thinking of them that way, even if he agrees to just 'one more time'. This conversation is potentially where the two really muddy the waters on what on earth this is.

It's also going to get more interesting when someone from the group finds out about their relationship. Worst case scenario would be Boston finding out. Because the last thing we need is for him to have more leverage to pull strings in this tangled web.

Boston & Top (Lust)

Notoriously, we're going to get our two resident red flags committing adultery together. This happens the same night as the pool party. Something happens between Top leading Mew away from Ray, to Top vouching for some rigorous car seat action with Boston. Mew is seen taking a call in the preview, and it wouldn't surprise me if Boston has something to do with this. He sees Top lead Mew away, and potentially intercedes with a ploy.

Can we talk about how Boston is acting all sweet with Nick and kisses him on the cheek (in the same car) earlier in the day and then proceeds to bounce the living daylights out of Top that same night (in the SAME car)?? This boy doesn't give a shit.

Nick VS Top ('The Favourite')

Nick finds the photobooth strip of Boston and Top. Now if I was Nick, this does speak volumes. Boston comes across as very blasé about his sexual partnerships. He takes a lot of photos of other people (including Nick), but from what we've seen, he's always the one behind the camera. Which also maintains this unconscious power dynamic he exerts over most of his lovers. Whereas the photobooth shots feature Boston with someone else. He's not the observer, he's the subject. The fact that he's kept this memento, with the caption 'hot night' means it was so memorable that he held onto it. This is pretty clear proof that no, Nick is not 'his favourite' as he was led to believe. And yes, Nick is slightly naïve to believe that in the first place, but he's seeing through rose-tinted glasses.

Nick's jealousy is tricky, because he's backed himself into a corner by trying to play it cool and going along with being just a 'fuck buddy' and nothing else. He knows he'll risk affronting Boston almost immediately if he starts demanding for more.

not to sound like an elitist but it's really crazy to me that people ever got mad at ryukishi for not explicitly spelling out the solution in the sound novels when the love duel in ep6 is him shoving it down the reader's throat in the least subtle way possible. zepar and furfur make shannon and kanon walk 19 steps away from each other before they give the signal to start the duel bc it's the number that's been the most important since the beginning of the story and they straight up say it's the age of the true territory lord of the gameboard (and just the previous ep was centered around the mystery of the baby from 19 years ago that natsuhi pushed off a cliff and it was heavily implied that shannon is connected to them) and the rest of the duel is also beating the reader over the head with shkanontrice with all of the talk about how it takes two to create a universe and furniture having 'incomplete souls' that make them count as less than a person, making the duel necessary bc only one pair of lovers can succeed bc of this, and the outcome is literally the losers, who are kanon and chick beatrice, merging with shannon to revive beatrice

#it's insane to me that theories like rosatrice were ever taken seriously #but it's really funny bc it's massive copium #people saying shkanon wasn't planned also reads as a bad cope #especially when ep1 has plenty of hints and ep2 is all about them #and ep3 has the linked closed rooms that can only be solved with shkanon #i will also not take you seriously if you bitch about how 'pretentious' ikuko/featherine is in this ep #yeah it's not subtle and it's obviously ryukishi self-inserting to say these things but he's earned it all things considered #and he was going through hard times being harassed by readers while grieving his best friend at the time #umineko #gamo.txt

So I’m working on a big post about Boston’s apologies to Nick. But I don’t think it’ll be done tonight. But I do have an quick unhinged BostonNick thought I’d like to share.

I like how Boston and Nick’s fakest apology. The one where Boston tells Nick he’s sorry for not being able to take him home from the party includes him starting out by a hand patting Nick’s hair then going to his shoulder to pull Nick in closer before Nick leaves. But Nick doesn’t really leave and neither does Boston.

Then we have the rooftop scene where it’s Boston and Nick’s sincere apology to each-other. It’s Nick who pulls Boston in close by his neck then he pets Boston’s hair as he cries. Feels like the circle is closing what they did to each-other all of it is forgotten and they’ve accepted neither of them can leave the other. Boston and Nick live in each-others hearts anyways keeping the beat going.

Idk I feel like these scenes are mirrors just like the phone isle scenes
