the only child born to sirius black and emmeline vance, avalon guinevere black was born on valentine’s day, 2006. sirius and emmeline were never in a serious relationship, it was a brief fling between the old friends that resulted in them becoming the parents of a little girl. sirius already being a single parents to one year old twins, leo and rory agreed to coparent with emmeline, with her having primary custody of the baby. emmeline bought a cute little cottage for her and avalon to live, she wanted her daughter to have a happy childhood, one that was filled with fields of flowers and playing outside all day long.

avalon spent the first ten years of her life going between her parent’s homes. sirius had a “mandatory” family dinner every week, which was often when emmeline and sirius traded off custody of avalon in her early years before she started school.

emmeline took a break from her work as an auror after avalon was born. she had often thought of officially retiring, but decided against it, ultimately deciding to return back to work when avalon turned three. her work, for the most part didn’t have much effect on her life as a mother. she could work during the days, while avalon got to spend time with sirius, or various other members of the order, and if she had to travel for work, avalon would stay with sirius for an extended amount of time. it could sometimes be a bit chaotic, but it worked for them for six years until her final mission, emmeline had thought it would be quick, but no auror as experienced as emmeline would anticipate their own death on such a simple seeming mission.

the order never released information on emmeline’s final assignment. they simply informed sirius of her death and released a brief statement, honoring the two time war hero. any information on emmeline vance’s final mission were classified and locked away.

avalon was nine years old at the time of her mother’s death, it was just weeks before her tenth birthday. the girl refused to return to her mother’s home to get her things, it made her too sad to think of being there without emmeline. it was sirius who went through emmeline’s things and packed up avalon’s. the cottage was left to sirius to keep until avalon was old enough.

the following school year avalon got to join her brother and sister in their first year hogwarts. she hadn’t put too much thought into what house she would be sorted into before the sorting ceremony started. when the hat announced that they youngest black sibling would be in house slytherin, the girl’s heart dropped for just a moment. she worried her father wouldn’t take the news well or that he would be angry with her. while part of her indulged this fear, for just a moment, an even bigger part of her knew that it wasn’t true. that very night avalon mailed home a short letter to sirius telling him all about the train ride and the new friends she had already made in her house.

her first three years at hogwarts went by in a blur. sirius hadn’t been upset with her for being sorted into slytherin. instead he embraced it. she quickly made friends and did well in her classes, no subject really stuck out to her though. she was a good student but not an excellent one.

it was during her second year that avalon fell in love with quidditch. she had always enjoyed watching games with her family, but it wasn’t until she tried out for her house team that she really grew to appreciate the sport. she made it onto slytherin’s team her first try as a chaser, though she would later switch to other positions before setting on keeper.

it was during her forth year that everything changed. avalon was in the middle of her potions class when she was called to the headmaster’s office. the whole walk there she wondered what she could have possibly done to warrant being taken out of class. it wasn’t until she arrived at the office and saw not only her siblings but harry potter that she got truly worried.

avalon couldn’t tell you what happened after neville longbottom said the words “your father has died”, she had stopped paying attention. the rest of the day was a blur. the rest of that week seemed to pass by without her even noticing. it didn’t really feel real until the funeral.

avalon threw herself into school and quidditch after her father’s death. there was no good way to keep her mind off of the pain, but she could distract herself.

after graduating avalon was drafted to play for the ballycastle bats as the keeper on their reserve team before being called up to the big leagues after two seasons.

harry’s death was like losing her own father all over again. she still hasn’t processed it, it doesn’t feel real. upon the order being reinstated, avalon and her siblings promptly offered grimmauld place to become the headquarters again.
