54- favorite unit? 

I suppose this means sub-unit rather than group, right? If so than hands down NO3B. Like come on, they are the most iconic unit. Takamina, Nyan, and Miichan have been with each other since 2005 and have only grown closer over the years and are now really great, life long friends, it is the most pure thing. The whole unit first got my love after I saw Mendol, it was so bad but ironically hilarious also Takamina’s character being homophobic but then turning into a lesbian was GOLD. After what they have went through together, it is impossible for me not to love this beautiful trio from first gen, especially more so being that the three of them were the last three OGs and spent 10 years together.

95- Member you’d like to be friends with?

Oshima Yuko with no doubt in my mind. Yuko is my second kami, and the first member I fell in love with. Her personality was so complex and hilarious, I am completely in love with her, my wife! What I love about her is that she was just so random and energetic, her smile brightens my day anytime. Yuko was that silly kid, the one who would make inappropriate jokes and was extremely touchy and a little annoying maybe, but how can you just not love this goofball? Especially since she was just more than a joker, Yuko was serious and carried her team and the group together, she fought for her place and secured it and made a huge impression on the group. She cared about her members and the team, she made sure that everyone was able to enjoy their time and have a blast, which is what the group was all about. Yuko is special to me, she makes me smile just thinking about her. I miss her so much, but I am so extremely proud of what she has done as an actress.

What’s great about her is how even though she was this polite, serious, uninteresting “honor student” character when she was in the Kenshuusei, she realized how that just wasn’t going to cut it as a talent and she course-corrected. Now, she’s created this “meta idol” character for herself. Even people like Becky have pointed out how she and Sato are now the two members in Morning Musume that one ought to really pay attention to.

Source What interesting about this, to me, is that this is also what happened to AKB's Oshima Yuko, where she began as a boring honors student type, but when confronted with the fact that such an image wouldn't be successful, recalibrated into giving no fucks about dignity and going for everything 500%, and becoming an iconic AKB legend in doing so. (Plus, she had the dance chops to stand out on the stage, too.) Yeah, Maria being on a similar path to greatness sounds about right.
