Come, let’s open the door and begin the adventure now Hey, let’s find the answer that proceeds to the right future
“I want to do that and I want to do this too–” it’s the law of greed “That’s no good and this is no good either–” in the end, is full of contradictions
In that moment where everything comes together, perfectly aligned is that moment where everything comes together, perfectly aliegned!
Come, let’s open the door and begin the adventure now Hey, let’s find the answer that proceeds to the right future
The regrets we let pass by with our eyes averted, And the errors we tucked away with our ears covered, too, Let’s make sure we never make those mistakes again
“That’s good and this is good too–” you haven’t hardened your heart enough “That is that and this is this–” in the end, that’s dodging the issue
Lies blended with kindness are merely lies blotted with kindness, aren’t they?
Come, let’s open the door and begin the adventure now Hey, let’s find the answer that proceeds to the right future
The regrets we let pass by with our eyes averted, And the errors we tucked away with our ears covered, too, Let’s make sure we never make those mistakes again
You, who knows everything, are the one who knows
Discover the truth… Hey, discover me…
Come, let’s open the door and begin the eternity Hey, let’s find the answer that proceeds to the right ending
Come, let’s open the door and begin the adventure now Hey, let’s find the answer that proceeds to the right future
The regrets we let pass by with our eyes averted, And the errors we tucked away with our ears covered, too, Let’s make sure we never make those mistakes again
Painting pitch-black over everything

Currently thinking about how Owari 3 parallels it's climax with this earlier blink-and-you'll-miss-it humor scene where Koyomi jokes about how ruthless his little sister is. The idea that once something is named, it has permanency in your life and cannot be casually thrown away, is actually how the very rules of the monogatari universe work, and what is enforced by the darkness.
Gaen's master plan to deal with Ougi is phrased by her and Ougi both as "revealing the truth," and analogized revealing the true identity of the culprit in the climax of a mystery novel, but what it comes down to, rather than revealing identity, is denying Ougi an identity entirely. Owari 1 opens with the line "Ougi Oshino is Ougi Oshino," and goes on to talk about how she is so wholly herself, and so strongly self-defined in her own self and personality - but by Owari 3 we know she gave herself that name, that her sense of self and her personal traits are all she has. And she needs to hold onto that concrete sense of identity in order to exist in this world. That's why Gaen's plan feels so shocking - to say "she is not, and has never been, Ougi Oshino, and there is no such person" - this contrasts so heavily against the defined, real, Ougi we have seen across the whole Owari trilogy. That this is all that is needed for the universe to see her as an error to be erased, rather than recognizing her as a person, feels like it is the universe who has made a mistake.
So Koyomi's choice at the end of the novel really does come down to the same thing Tsukihi talks about with the the Yotsugi "doll" - what will you do when your sympathy runs out? Maybe, if she had no name, he could have thrown her away without hesitation. But she has a name, and feelings, and so he thinks of her as a person, and can't bear to do it. Even if, from Gaen's coldly logical perspective, it is "time to throw her away" - time for Koyomi to grow up, time to move on and discard what is, to him, feelings of loathing and isolation, time to deal with the threat. But he doesn't want to do that - and in the end, instead of Gaen's plan to strip Ougi of her identity, Meme, Koyomi, and Ougi herself are able to make that identity, that name, truly hers, so that even the universe recognizes that she can't be thrown away that easily.

additional Ougi thought
if we consider that the incident that Ougi originally appeared for was the return of Sodachi into Koyomi's life, i wonder what that would do to inform Sodachi and Ougi's hypothetical relationship?
the two thoughts i have on the matter is that Ougi would be especially harsh to Sodachi due to that connection, or that Ougi in a post-Ougi Dark world, in seeking to become their own person, would seek out Sodachi and attempt to forge a relationship disconnected from Koyomi
