Fast Facts:
-I've bee in this fandom since 2015, but only started posting content in I thiiiiink 2019? Maybe 2020? Anyway, the Check, Please! to irl hockey pipeline is soooo real.
-If you remember "Everybody's Husband, Jeff Troy" and "Jeff Troy Is Secretly Scared of Santa", that was my doing!
-This fandom introduced me to some of my best friends and the person I'm marrying so I'll always be grateful for that <3
About me:
Hi there! I'm Tea! (they/them) (23 y/o)
I'm the admin that corrals the others when they're being troublemakers (and as such am toootally entitled to a little trouble myself) and aside from that, I do a lot of behind-the-scenes worker bee stuff.
I write a lot of ficlets for discord servers I'm in, but most of those don't see the light of public day lol. I've got some longer works in my drafts at the moment and I can't wait to share them all with y'all!
My favorite character is Jeff "Swoops" Troy. I know he's not a real Check, Please! character, but when asked why I like him so much, all I can tell ya is he's the pre-Goncharov Goncharov!
I just think it's really neat how a portion of this fandom came together and constructed an entire elaborate identity, personality, and story for this one dude who really doesn't even exist in the media he's supposed to be from. It's led to a lot of wonderful works of art and writing. For me personally, it's led to a lot of happy moments and meaningful friendships. I just think that's neat!
Fun facts:
-My personal record for most crawfish eaten in one sitting is 4 pounds!
-I have 4 cats and 2 dogs
-I have a background in circus arts. Also, I once caught covid at clown school, which makes me the clowniest of all the clowns y'all know. It's a high honor, I know.
Things I Think Would Be Cool in the Zine
-As a multishipper and polyamorous person, I would love to see polyam content in the zine!!
-I'm a huuuge enjoyer of these ships: parswoops, pimms, pimmswoops, pbj (plus swoops too!), holsom, and jackholtz
-jackholtz antagonistic exes nation...where y'all at???
Can't wait for this project to come together. Here's a little parting gift for now. Talk soon!

seven birthdays kent spent alone + one he didn't
Kent's ten, the first time he's alone on his birthday.
He's sad, and he's alone, and he wants a cake and maybe a new hockey stick or some new skates.
Instead, his dad is finalizing divorce papers.
Or, the one where Kent is so, so lonely, even when he's not strictly alone, and birthdays are stupid
Also tysm to the people who cheered me on while I was writing this 🥺 I really hope you love it <3

I get where people are coming from when they say Diaspro in Winx lost the plot for the sake of being turned into a minor villain and that's all once Valtor enabled her to do what she did in S3, but I feel like that was a reasonable narrative choice. It's only a love potion at that point (while I could go on all day about the ethics of love potions, of course, a later season has her straight up trying to do direct murder). She's a noble, guards will do her dirty work, and I understand that she would feel like getting revenge on Bloom while getting back together with Sky. She was promised a position — romantic AND political — she nearly had and then it was taken from under her by a random fairy who wasn't even "supposed" to be in the running. I don't think what she did was nice, but it makes sense for the story and for her character for her to want to reclaim her position in the way she did. Sky's love was an accessory, in part, to her political ascension, and thus he is again rendered accessory and accomplice by the love spell. And, sending guards after threats seems to be the thing to do in the magical universe if you're a disgruntled noble, so it's probably not unfamiliar for Diaspro to have seen occur before or want to do. It's not a uniquely rotten response any more than Radius' behaviour towards the monster (who, he didn't know it, was Stella). If we fault her for this action rather than only the intention behind it, we need to examine how the worlds in Winx Club deal with threats to their monarchs in general, which sounds interesting but I frankly don't have time for tonight. Diaspro did wrong, but she didn't do uniquely wrong there, and Eraklyon has the punitive security structures in place to have enabled that.
Diaspro's later appearances seem to flatten her motives and the symbolism behind why her relationship with Sky was important and what she does about it (who cares what Diaspro's political aims are and how her status might reflect how she deals with problems, the audience needs to see Bloom thrown into fire I guess), but I feel like seasons 4-8 weren't really that good anyway, so I can't even claim this as a fault of the writers doing Diaspro specifically wrong instead of them just doing the whole show wrong at that point. It might be related, and it might be a coincidence, but a lot of the writing choices seemed to become more flat to me right around when the art shifted to that lifeless godawful Flash simulacrum of S1-3's art.
Also like... idk but if some long-haired hottie wizard in a sick coat and contemplative eyeshadow told me he could help me get my promised chance at both romantic and political success back, I'd at least hear him out, yknow, see what he had to say (<- don't trust me I simp for Valtor)

It’s hard to articulate exactly how disconnected I feel from leftist spaces these days. I have a knee-jerk reaction to anything Palestine-related now that I can’t control. And the most ridiculous part of that is ofc that it makes no sense for that to have to be the case when I am in fact staunchly pro-Palestinian liberation.
It’s just I can’t take that shit at face value anymore. I almost don’t trust any goyische leftist to actually give a shit about Palestine. It all feels like one big joke at this point. It’s so surreal. Amidst the constant antisemitism, even the littlest well-meaning but performative actions leave such a bad taste in my mouth. And the fucking attitude, god the attitude. It’s all so demeaning. It’s all so guilt and shame driven and yet people seem to think they’re revolutionaries for harassing random Jews in the street. I’m so tired. I’m not convinced anyone actually cares. It feels like they all just want to look good in front of each other.

@ajscico I might be able to write a standalone snippet, but in the meantime, have Breath of the Sky WIP stuff :D
Zelda walked with haste, her mind so preoccupied with everything she’d just learned. She was caught in a confused haze, head whirling with so many words and images that she couldn’t focus on a single coherent train of thought. It felt like when she’d started to recover her memories – her mind had been so utterly overwhelmed with an entirely new life and revelation that she’d been practically catatonic for a few hours sometimes.
Speaking of being completely distracted, Zelda gasped in surprise when she nearly collided right into someone as she rounded the corner. The person had quick reflexes, taking a step back, and it took her a minute to recognize him.
It was that knight from before. The one with the Master Sword.
“Oh!” she said softly, eyes wide. “You’re—”
She paused, realizing several things at once. First, her interactions with him had been amidst a high amount of stress and emotions, meaning she’d been fairly rude, and second, she had absolutely no idea what his name was.
“U-uh…” she continued awkwardly. “I don’t think I ever actually got your name, sorry.”
The knight watched her carefully, face decidedly neutral as he blinked a few times, and then he said in a soft voice, “Link.”
Zelda stared.
Of course his name is Link, her mind whispered. Link and Zelda, here to save the world from Demise once again. What a cruel joke.
Had the Golden Goddesses even done anything to try to stop this? She barely remembered anything about them, even with all her recovered memories of a life past. Did they even care? Somehow she couldn’t figure it out – she felt like a part of her knew they were distantly invested, but she also reasoned out that they’d left her in charge of everything, which implied that they… weren’t paying attention anymore.
She didn’t even know. All she knew was that she was screwing up this conversation like she had the others.
“Right. Link.” She said, trying to gather her thoughts. “Um. I’m Zelda.”
The two stared at each other a moment, and then Zelda wanted to smack herself. Hastily, she shook her hands with an embarrassed laugh. “But you already—I mean—wow okay, I just—”
She sighed, cutting herself off. “I’m sorry. I’m—this is a lot. I wasn’t—I wasn’t prepared for any of this.”
The strange knight watched her, and his lack of reaction made her a little uneasy. His silence reminded her of her own Link, but her husband was so expressive, she could practically read his thoughts on his face. This one was very much the opposite.
What… had they done to him? Was he just like this? No one was naturally just like this.
“I guess it would be confusing to call me Zelda, what with the princess and all,” she said, trying to keep a conversation going. “But um… it’s nice to meet you. Formally, I mean. Because like… you know, we didn’t… I mean we met before, but I never got your name and there was a lot of stuff going on.”
The knight nodded subtly.
Zelda wondered if perhaps this was anxiety, or the same breeding as the other guards who had knelt and not even looked her in the eye. At least he was making eye contact.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, this Link also seemed to realize it, and his eyes widened as he clumsily fell to his knee.
Zelda had to laugh at the maneuver, feeling equal parts guilty and amused. “Hey, it’s okay, stop doing that. I’m… we’re going to be working together a lot, I think. Please. Can we just be friends?”

omg your ocs they all look so cool please tell me about them!!
For context the story takes place in an alternate universe where 'Japan' is on the mainland in late Sengoku era as provinces try to crystalize power (the setting itself is kinda bonkers but I'll leave it like that for now). Also ghosts, spirits and gods (kami/kamuy) are very much a real tangible thing.
And these guys are part of a gang: there’s a core group and satellite groups that come and go depending on the situation, though mostly it’s the core group that moves between the satellite groups – their goal is destabilization of the current samurai class as the poor and disenfranchised are seeking justice, especially given the warring era that has been going on for the past decades. They’re called the Mononoke Ikki by outsiders due to their elusiveness and seemingly non-human capabilities.
Tumblr media
The groups most notable member is definitely Nagato, a man who can inflict pain onto others by injuring himself simply by being in the your vicinity – on top of that he’s said to be quite a skilled and vicious fighter despite being frail: his body is covered in scars and he’s very gaunt, malnourished even. On top of that he is also Ainu (and trans). The group respects him greatly for all his efforts, but he’s a difficult man to engage with. The place as a whole that he occupies in this world is complicated and in his attempts to move towards independence and justice he’s still managed to harm exactly those who he’s trying to protect - he’s a can of worms.
But not de de facto leader:
Tumblr media
That honor goes to O-Kiku. She’s tiny, only 4’5/140cm, but she’s charismatic, determined, ruthless even. She’s the one that built most of the relationships the group benefits from and has so far manage to achieve all that she set out to do; she manages to command respect, even if her motives aren’t entirely clear, she manages to convince. The only person that actually seems to know the true goals she’s actually aiming for is Nagato, both of whom are apparently founders of this group; they’re the core of the core of this Mononoke Ikki – would be a shame if something were to happen to that wouldn’t it?
Tumblr media
Especially since men like Kojuro, a man from a fishing village, the province of which seems to always be under some outsider’s rule, always struggling for independence; a man who came packaged deal with his own gang that see him as a symbol of resistance against the oppressive classes, especially since his forehead is tattooed branding him as a murderer (of samurai, twice.) He also has tattoos on his back, taking pride in being seen as a pest by the ruling class. He’s deeply loyal to O-Kiku’s cause, for better or worse. Oh and he’s absolutely massive in stature, tall and muscular he dwarfs almost everyone he stands next to-
Tumblr media
There’s also Acipo, the oldest of the core group, also Ainu, trying his darnest to take care so that Nagato doesn’t throw himself off the deep-end just yet, but his attempts always seem a bit too gentle to ever seem to steer him in the direction Acipo hopes him to go into. Still he’s an anchor, not just for Nagato, whom he knows since he was a child, but to the entire group, offering experience and reason.
Tumblr media
Another member of the core group, somehow even more elusive is a frail woman that goes by O-Ai, or just Ai. She doesn’t talk a lot and has a blind eye, while at the same time she exudes an even greater aura/blood lust than that of Nagato’s to whom she is very close with. She hands around Acipo a lot as well and I’m not sure how much I can talk about her without giving away key aspects of not just the plot, but the relationships that uphold that plot-
Tumblr media
Last to join the core group is a young man that chose to cut his hair; he’s of samurai blood, not just that, he’s from the Hokke, he’s of the Fujiwara, and yet decided to desert all that and tag along, drawn in by the fact that he at last found someone else that shares that 6th sense, that ability that Nagato and Ai have. He’s also most definitely feral, and despite his upbringing is consistently rude and obstinate, but a fantastic archer.
Tumblr media
Tagging along with the group there’s also Hiko, a mercenary that was sent to investigate the Mononoke Ikki and report back, only she found herself enthralled by the goings on of the inside of the group. She seems to be about the only person that challenges O-Kiku’s choices, equally charming, but fun, playful even. She’s Romani, but she was detached from her people for most of her life and like most of the people of the group, finding herself walking a thin line in a liminal space of intersecting identities.
Tumblr media
Not formally part of the group and only barely tagging along, there’s Monashir, Hiko’s girlfriend. She is also Ainu, but unlike those from the gang, she’s a core part of her community, whom she’d do anything to protect. She does not like Nagato, or appreciate the way he goes about things. She’s a mother, she has responsibilities, which sometimes barely leave her to be herself and again her character forms one of the main pillars of the emotional conflict going on between these characters.
Tumblr media
Oh I almost forgot. There’s a ghost too; just a genuine, man-eating ghost. His name is Honda and someone’s going to get into this guy’s pants ;)

Comparing how Jack talks about Kent to Bitty in Years 2 and 3:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This conversation takes place roughly a month and a bit after the fight with Kent. Jack, notably, stops Bitty from badmouthing Kent. Jack carefully talks around their relationship, and he insists that he was at fault too. We also know from Shitty that the way Jack talks to Kent is at least comparable to how Kent talked to Jack, if not worse.
(Side note: The more I re-read Parse, actually, the more I think about what we hear from Jack too: responding to Kent’s “I miss you,” with, “You always say that,” is cold, especially knowing that they’d just been making out. This isn’t blaming Jack. I don’t think Jack should lead Kent on if he’s over their past. But environmental storytelling shows that it wasn’t just Jack whose clothes were rumpled. Jack, at least a little, was reciprocating. This may be the closest they ever had to a final break-up, which makes it extra sad that this is what Bitty sees of Kent.)
Tumblr media
In Year 3, when Jack tells Bitty about his past, he still talks around his relationship with Kent. Ngozi’s notes on Parse very heavily implied that in spite of what Jack says, they were emotionally involved--mutually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the very least, Kent was Jack’s friend, and Jack, unwittingly or not, lead Kent along. At some point, Jack became aware that Kent had feelings for him, and knowing that he ghosted him, we know that Jack did not handle this situation well. Jack previously admitted that he owes Kent apologies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yet now, he lets Bitty talk about Kent like this. Personally, I don’t think it’s healthy or appropriate to let your current partner talk about your ex like this. Especially considering Bitty’s lack of experience with relationships: He’s making judgments on a situation he’s never experienced about a person he doesn’t know. And Jack doesn’t tell him enough to let him see anything more than one argument.
At the end of the day, Jack still doesn’t address what happened between him and Kent meaningfully, and he allows Bitty to perpetuate a myth within his head of Kent being the Bad Ex who hurt Jack without considering that they were likely in a mutually toxic relationship, caused by their environment, their age, and their mental health. And this is why I still think an appropriate end would have been for Jack and Kent to talk because regardless of what others believe, I still think they needed a meaningful conclusion to each other.

its ok to be a hater sometimes <3
I completely forgot I reblogged this post five times in a row, so this was a very funny message to receive without context.
I do wanna talk about that post a little bc it sets kindness and anger/hatred on equal footing (the unstoppable force vs the immovable object), and it frames the dichotomy as a battle, and, to some extent, I do think it is a battle
However, I think it's a battle because its hard to find a balance between the two. Too much kindness, and you'll end up hurting yourself. Too much anger/hatred, and you'll end up hurting others.
But kindness and anger are two sides of the same coin, and they can bolster the other. It is kindness that propels anger/hatred towards injustices. It is anger/hatred towards injustices that propels kindness.
It is important to be kind. It is important to be angry. I am thankful for both desires.
