if they really wanted to portray yang as having raised ruby completely on her own while tai was doing fuck all, they've had all the chances, both big and small, to fully commit to it leaving behind no doubts in at least V4, V9, and even V2, but they haven't. they've literally had the rod, line, reel, hook & bait and a lake full of hungry fishes ready to feast all ready to go at moments notice, but the bait never makes it into the water. all the setup is there but there's no commitment, if anything, they're going the opposite way by not delivering after all the setups.

yang wanting to be treated like an adult, ruby's outburst, heck, even tai sending zwei to the girls at beacon were there for the taking to subtly or not so subtly make it clear that yang had to raise ruby on her own but none went there, so either the writers are incompetent at telling their own story, or it's not the story they're trying to tell. and frankly, i'm going for the latter considering they haven't exactly been subtle about other matters similar to this.

How do you know those animators “love what they do” lol???? I’m an animator myself getting overworked with bad treatment and bad pay and forced to create shitty output I don’t believe in because it’s the work I got. Sometimes that we get employed to make crap is capitalism and its boiling it down exactly to the point we need to make. I’m sorry to be cynical or hard about this but you sound like a HR video about company morale with our Work Family(tm) and Pride In What We Do(tm) to me.

the point i wanted to make from the beginning is that boiling an entire animated show down to being made by capitalism is disrespectful to the people who worked on it with passion and love for the stories and characters. "capitalism" didnt make the show, people did. hell its still disrespectful to the people who worked on it even if they didnt like working on it. thats still their work, not the work of an abstracted economic system.

i feel like I didnt articulate myself well enough in my original reply and thats totally on me. ive never been good at doing that and it makes me look stupid or overemotional at times.

i think a point i failed to expand on is that, strawberry shortcake has always been a product of capitalism, even if you thought the og designs were cuter they were designed entirely to sell product and make money. capitalism didnt ruin strawberry shortcake, its always been a specifically capitalist product. but at least the new show has some heart to it i guess. also more people should watch it, its really cute
