theres this one soloist I know, and he did a "whats in hwang minhyun's (his name) bag?" video and it was so cool!!! he showed us his citrus-scented cologne and I thought that was really cool!!!! bcuz I love citrus scents a lot :3

he also showed us his very convenient camera!!! very convenient camera bcuz its not too complicated and you can just take it out and take photos and stuff!!! but he also mentioned it's very hard to get bcuz its sold out immediately every time its back in stock lol 😭 I also searched it up online and found out its like 1k+ 😭

Phlur's Missing Person is like the Emperor's New Clothes in that it convinces you it's still on long after it's gone. Makes you hyper-aware of your own smell, it messes with your head that way. I got a deluxe sample from a girl on a Facebook group who wanted to get rid of it. I find it rather simple, or deceptively simple, after the top notes are gone. Not the worst thing ever but not the best, either.

A bit of an interesting case study in marketing what sounds like a very boring, generic scent with a concept that’s already been done to death, whether it’s Glossier’s You, Juliette Has a Gun’s Not a Perfume, or, if you want to go to the high end of the market, Malle’s Dans Tes Bras.

Reading about this TikTok marketing campaign makes me miss the old days of perfume criticism online. Fragrance reviewing has declined rapidly since the blogging and discussion forum days that favoured erudite writers who once ran very active sites like Kafkaesque, Bois de Jasmin and Take One Thing Off. There is a near complete divide between that time, YouTube fragrance channels that appear to be male dominated (?), and TikTok beauty influencers who appear to be female dominated (?). These feel like separate universes. My guess is most perfume enthusiasts from the blog/forum universe have never heard of Missing Person and don’t care.

I have not smelled any of the new Phlurs and am not remotely curious about them. Because there is basically zero continuity between Phlur’s prior fragrances and its current Chriselle Lim-owned lineup, I can only assume one of the primary factors for keeping the brand was to maintain Phlur’s distribution networks which includes the beauty industry powerhouse, Sephora. (In fact, it was through Sephora that I smelled the original Phlurs. They were fine, if not a bit wan, though I appreciated how every ingredient was listed instead of just “fragrance.”) Phlur now just seems designed to generate profit. Lim is an influencer who was not known for any special expertise or interest in fragrance.

This all feels illustrative of how the personal fragrance industry temporarily broke out of its celebrity-backed fruitchouli, fruity-floral funk in the early 2010s and how in just about a decade, niche creativity and the attendant, exciting criticism that flourished in response, has now been consumed and crushed by the very same capitalist market forces that gave rise to the fragrance wasteland of the 90s.

hello beloved!! mmm this is tricky because it’s the opposite of what i would go for and i’m not sure what you mean by special occasion (date? weddings? evenings out?) but here’s a few that come to mind and are not insanely expensive. i haven’t tried most of them (i will mark the ones i have smelt and liked with (x!)) but they may fit the bill:

i wouldn’t bind buy any fragrance though — try and get samples! hope this helps (and not rude at all).

u should try using 'little black dress by avon' its such a mellow and beautiful smell! i wear it almost every day and the amount of confidence it gives me is insane. definitely has to be my top scent of ALL time!

this is a more floral milk and it's the scent i can throw on without thinking. always pretty and soft and yummy and cozy. like a perfect sweater.

this is kind of self-indulgent. sweet, sweet marshmallow scent that just makes me happy. fragrance doesn't have to be high art all the time, ya know?

i couldnt decide so i have two options and both are decently priced they're like average sephora prices so if u wanna try em i say ask for em as a gift or get a sample pack the websites normally have em!

so first is woodphouria by boy smells its a great year round fragrance that shines in the summer/fall very much gives young fawn frolicking in the woods its musky and powdery with a nice cedar base its not too mature and heavy at all like most woody fragrances its got some fig to sweeten it and overall a really good fragrance

second is tangerine boy by phlur its bright its youthful it's zingy and it kinda smells like orange pop! its a really juicy photorealistic tangerine and it doesnt have that nose itching citrus quality to it
