Agnes Currai Varlineau watched Laurent as he carefully piped frosting to make a smiley face on the giant snowman cookie she had baked earlier. But wait there's more! Peppermint brownies are now in the oven because my grumpy dragon requested them for Starlight this year. "Laure sweetie, it doesn't have to be perfect." She said, ruffling his hair.

She recognized the determined look on his face as one that belonged to his father. "Mummy, it's got to look better than Pip's." Oh for fuck's sake, these two are very different twins than Hami and Marc. They're at least working together on the same giant snowman cookie.

"They will both be lovely, I'm sure." Glancing at Esme (she's making a Pretty Princess Snowman) and Celestine (I'm not sure what she's going for but it's very nice), she smiled. "Bapa is going to be so impressed when he sees all your snowmen."

"When's he coming home?" Hami asked.

"Soon. He just went to the market to get a few more things for dinner tonight." Need more hamsa for the curry. It's a Varlineau family favorite! "Then Sylv, Auri, and Maeva can decorate the last snowman cookie together." Well, as "together" as two young children and a baby can. Our first Starlight since Maeva arrived...so much has changed and yet...

"LAURE, YOUR SNOWMAN LOOKS LIKE POOP!"

"NO YOU'RE POOP!"

Agnes sighed. "Be nice to your brother. Both your snowmen look lovely, and most importantly--"

Esme beamed. "Will taste great! Because Mummy is the best baker ever!"

The front door opened with Estinien pushing what he called "the damnable contraption" otherwise known as the Garlond Super Stroller Version 9.0. Maeva strapped in on the top "seat" with Sylv and Auri on the bottom. I think it's ingenious! "Mummy isn't just the best baker ever, Es. She's simply the best." He smirked, unbuckling the boys who ran to their mother, and then picked up a cooing Maeva. I'm frankly shocked he didn't say, "She's simply the breast." Maybe later! He gave his wife a kiss on the cheek, whispering, "Simply the breast, my angel."

"Bapa, look at my snowman!"

"No look at mine!"

"No MINE!"

Estinien laughed heartily and sat at the large kitchen table. "I'll see everyone's, don't worry, and remember Auri and Sylv need to decorate theirs." He glanced at Agnes. "Mind grabbing a bottle from the icebox? I think the littlest miss is hungry."

Nodding, she went to the icebox and smiled to herself.

Everything changes, and yet nothing truly changes. My not-so-little family...I adore you all.

Sigh. As much as I love and respect Laurent and personally believe he’d be a much more palatable TP than Binotto this unfortunately points towards a bigger issue within the team, this idea of constantly reiterating that nothing’s wrong, there’s no reason to change anything, most of their poor results are down to outside factors, no one really understands their plight, etc.

Granted, they’re hardly going to openly admit morale is poor or whatever, but not taking responsibility and doggedly defending bad decisions, when everyone else can clearly see many, many costly mistakes were made, is not a good look either. It’s difficult to feel sympathetic when the team’s policy so far has largely been denial (there’s no reason to change anything within the team), deception (claiming the race in Hungary was unwinnable regardless of strategy simply because the car had “no pace,” which was absolutely not true for Charles), and delusion (there’s no reason we can’t win the remaining 10 races), or some mix of the three. It’s frankly insulting. To Charles, to all the people back at the factory who worked so hard to make a championship contending car, and to all the fans tuning into this clown show. In all my years of following F1/Ferrari, I don’t recall a time when they so blatantly made so many bad calls with such frightening consistency. It’s not just a genuine mistake here and there. It’s week in, week out; the rule, more so than the exception at this point. You can comfortably go into a weekend and predict that the pitwall will do something to compromise Charles’s race and be correct more often than not, and that’s concerning.

And now, a little over halfway through the season, they’re closer to Mercedes in the standings (30 points difference) than Red Bull (97 points), who started off as their main rival for the championship(s). My prediction? They’re going to be pipped for second by Mercedes and ultimately finish the season in P3 in the Constructors’ standings. Mercedes. The Mercedes whose resurgence was supposedly a good thing for Ferrari, because it would “take points away from Red Bull.” Yep. P3. From P1. P3, where they finished last year, a result that was considered a massive success for their then-midfield car, coming off the back of a disastrous season. And the worst part is, should it happen, it will be absolutely deserved. P3 is just a more accurate reflection of their goals and ambitions than P1. After all, Binotto shamelessly moved the goal posts while the championship fight was already well underway and downplayed their ambitions from winning a title to just winning some races here and there.

In its current form, with its current attitude, this is not a team that has a genuine hunger and determination and desire to win championships. When Red Bull or Mercedes lose out, they are sick. They’re disappointed, they (generally) hold themselves accountable, and they analyse their weaknesses in order to come back stronger at the next opportunity. To them, anything less than a win is not good enough, especially when they know they have the car and drivers to achieve such results. They’re always pushing for more, bigger, better. There’s ambition there to win - and not just a race, but races, and, crucially, titles. Ferrari, meanwhile, seem to be content with mediocrity, treating the ultra-competitive sport that is Formula 1 like it’s a school sports day, where everyone’s a winner simply for showing up and participating.

In the past their title bids have also been flawed and ultimately fruitless (2017, 2018) but, I don’t know, at least I could feel they tried, they wanted it, which is more than I can say for the current pitwall/management. It’s this feeling that they just don’t care, that they’ve thrown in the towel much too prematurely and are now pretending this was the plan all along...that’s the inexcusable part. To have everything in your grasp, have the driver, have the car at your disposal...and then so carelessly dismantle everything for no discernible reason. If there is one given behind the scenes for this fiasco, then we’re not privy to it.

If the management, the people who hold actual executive power, who are responsible for making important decisions, really and truly see no issue with how the team is being mishandled at the moment, the way it’s failing to reach its full potential, then this malady is more serious than we initially thought. If there’s only talk of “learning lessons” and no actual, tangible action follows - worse, if the same mistakes keep being repeated over and over and keep being defended in the face of fair, constructive criticism, then the team has a massive problem, and I can’t, right now, see any clear solution. They are insane for this (derogatory). After all:

OBSERVATIONS UPON: Lestat's family tree and my headcanons concerning it.

This post includes my choices for Lestat's father, mother, and the Marquis as well as a comparison image of Lestat and his half-brothers - to give context to the decisions made.

NOTE: I'm basing this on the idea that Lestat was born of an affair between Gabrielle and a young French nobleman named Marcel Debois.

So, from what I understand of Lestat's canon, his mother Gabrielle doted upon him as a child. My first thought is why? Why Lestat? Why not her other sons? Of course, she may have had some motherly affection towards her other children but, in my head, they weren't born out of a loving relationship.

Gabrielle de Lioncourt strikes me as the kind of wife a Marquis would want if he had no fortune. She gets the title, he gets the money. It was a marriage of convenience and social gain for both parties. In my head (as I've not read Interview or The Vampire Lestat) I can imagine the Marquis is older than Gabrielle when they marry - him wanting a younger wife to have and raise many children.

All in all, Gabrielle conceives eight times; three surviving into adulthood, one stillborn and four miscarriages. These losses are devastating to her and I think it goes a long way to explaining why there's an age gap between Lestat and his brothers. The Marquis is relentless in the pursuit of children, even after his (non-identical) twin sons are born after only a year of marriage. He is in his forties and Gabrielle is only 16.

She gives birth to the twins at 17 and then doesn't have another, living child until Lestat is born, 9 years later. At this point, his mother is 26 years old and, as Lestat was turned when he was 34, this means that Gabrielle would have been at least 60 when she was reborn.

The relationship between Lestat and his brothers was never an easy one; they noticed he was different as soon as they laid eyes on his short golden hair, the day he was born. The Marquis noticed too and took almost every opportunity to make sure Gabrielle knew that he knew something was awry in the boy's lineage. He was the lion among the crows and Étienne and Laurent never let him forget it.

It is my headcanon that Lestat is illegitimate and because of this - because he was conceived within a loving affair - Gabrielle loved him more than she loved her other sons. Lestat reminded her of the only time she's ever, genuinely been in love and been loved back. The only time she has wanted and has been wanted and she held onto that memory through her son for as long as she possibly could before the immortal life of a vampire turned even the most doting mother, cold.

BACKGROUND/HISTORY

Ollie is the second child of the two heroes of the Wizarding World, Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy. Due to his family background, Ollie and his siblings were thrown under media spotlight since young. Jacob being the first child of a then newly-bonded Veela!Draco and Harry, inherited both his parents’ magical abilities, making him the strongest wizard of the century. Ollie, like his sister, were just a normal kids and couldn’t hold a candle to their older brother’s abilities. Ollie does not resent his brother for being stronger at all and he loves Jacob very much. When Jacob disappeared without a trace to seek the cursed vaults, it left Ollie feeling hurt, confused and betrayed. The constant comparison and talk of his brother made Ollie extremely frustrated.

PERSONALITY

Ollie is a soft-spoken and quiet boy. He doesn’t like making the first moves and is cautious on who approaches him because he doesn’t know if they’re just getting close to him because of his parents. He’s gentle and empathetic, quick to apologize if he’s in the wrong and always the first to mediate if things go sour. He’s very lazy when it comes to classes and he always copies homework off his friends. However when exams come, he actually studies with Talbott to pull off passable grades. Ollie is very sensitive and his biggest insecurity is being compared to his brother. He loves too much and too easily and that will one day stab him in the back.

Ollie's Veela powers fully activate in Year 5, after he's bonded with Talbott. Ollie's Veela allure works on all genders. When using his allure, he is able to charm whoever he wants into doing his bidding.

Character Info for When The Night Comes

I’ll be honest, this got away from me a bit. I am not entirely sure this is coherent and I had to fight myself to not info-dump because I have so many thoughts on these dorks. For @galleywinter who has been patient with my need to scream about this fantastic game

Les Full Name: Alessa Mylona – also answers to Lessa Age: 27 Height: 5’10”

Les is the Hunter General in Lunaris. She’s headstrong, composed, and very much a stickler for the rules. She can be a bit standoffish at first – but is always willing to take the time and listen if someone needs her. She’s been a bit of an overachiever since she was young, which tends to rub off on the people around her whether they want it to or not. She’ll follow the spirit of the law rather than the letter of it – she’s gotten a fair share of citations in her files from going against orders when she felt it wasn’t the right thing to do. She can be very caring when needed, but tries to hold herself apart from people to help with her work.

She was orphaned at a young age, and was too difficult of a child to find a home anywhere until she was taken in by the Hunters. She puts a great deal of effort into appearing the ‘perfect’ Hunter, mostly out of fear she’ll lose the one family she’s ever really known. Although she worked on her own the first few years, she and Wren partnered on a difficult assignment and have been inseparable ever since. At the academy she specialized in Demonology – she fights with a weighted quarterstaff mostly but also has a few smaller silver daggers (just in case).

Les knew of the Piper Meriman before coming to Lunaris, more as the legend of a Hunter than as a real person. It was a bit of an early blow to find out the Enforcers would cast aside someone with that kind of reputation, though it did give her the chance to get being starstruck out of her system (and somewhere Piper couldn’t see her). There’s never been any hesitation on her part with letting Piper take the lead, not only because Piper is a force of nature but because Les likes having a chance to not be in charge of everything. Piper is one of the few people who can get her to shirk responsibility and just have fun.

Wren Full Name: Florian Laurent Age: 26 Height: 5’7”

Wren is the Hunter General’s right hand. They are very quiet, seeming almost shy, but they can be unyielding as steel. They are fiercely loyal to those they care about, almost to the point of absurdity. Although dedicated to their career as a Hunter, they weren’t prepared for volume of bureaucratic nonsense that came with the territory of trying to help people. Wren will flout any rule necessary to do the right thing, at least the right thing by their standards. They’re much more empathetic than their partner, and don’t bother to maintain a distance from the people in their life.

Wren grew up the oldest of three children – their father was forcibly retired as a Hunter due to a spinal injury. Hoping to carry on the family tradition of being a ‘hero,’ they studied and trained until they could be tested. Although never a truly model student, they were still one of the best. They specialized in Weapons and Combat training and spent their first few years in the field honing their tracking skills. They are unparalleled at laying traps and setting ambush locations – usually with some guidance from Les. They prefer to fight from a distance, using ranged weapons and resorting to daggers only when necessary.

They were wholly unprepared for the Lunarian double-threat of Omen and Alkar. Both of them had a unique charm, and proved to be effortlessly entertaining for the needling-inclined Wren. The two of them served as a good distraction and break from the insanity that was the investigation, and Wren was more than happy to play matchmaker in the early stages of their relationship. It can be a bit tricky for them to not get sucked into teaming up with one or the other to get the third, but in reality that’s part of the fun of their relationship.

Les and Wren

They started working together three years before coming to Lunaris after teaming up together on a particularly tricky mission. Wren liked the convenience of having what was essentially a battering ram on their side, while Les appreciated knowing there was someone at her back to help out. Although Hunter teams are not common, and are often split up if called for, the two of them fought tooth and nail to be kept together every time they needed to be transferred.

Not only in sync in battle, the two also work well together off the field. Les is much better suited to maneuvering (read: manipulating) the Enforcers to get what they need whereas Wren has been much better at connecting to the Creatures and getting insider information. Although both have their own way of handling civilians, they ultimately have the same goal: to put on a good face for the organization, despite the recent situation.

Alaric Full Name: Gideon Alaric Fehler Age: 31 Height: 6’2”

Alaric came to Lunaris by chance, as a Hunter on a specialty assignment. Although he holds himself proudly there’s always a mischievous glint in his eyes. He’s a sucker for having a laugh and a round of ales in the tavern, as much as he enjoys the sense of accomplishment that comes with seeing a town that fees safe because of the work the Hunters do. As he operates, to some degree, outside of the standard Hunter/Enforcer system he can come off a bit of a loose cannon, but at the end of the day his interest is protecting the people.

Originally from Thiyrus, Alaric was sent to join the Hunters by his mother who dreamed of having her son grow up to be strong and a protector for their homeland. Although she did get her wish, he always carried a hint of resentment at the pain her choice brought him. Despite this, he dedicated all his time and effort to his training and studies: he specialized in Alchemy and Demonology both. In combat training he favored short swords, enjoying the adrenaline rush that came from being in the middle of a fight and dancing around his opponents.

Alaric fell hard and he fell fast for August – as comically “love at first sight” as can be imagined. He was immediately drawn in by their grace, composure, and the raw depth of power he could sense under their skin. Due to the nature of their work, he originally decided not to act on his feelings as he felt a workplace relationship was not the best idea. The longer their task kept him in Eskria, and by extension in Lunaris, the more he found himself wishing to court them. The delight he felt when his interest was immediately (and intensely) returned was palpable, and the two have been nigh inseparable since.

Poppy Full Name: [Redacted] – Also answers to Pippa, Pips, and Pip (only used by Alaric) Age: 24 Height: 5’1” or 5’2”

Poppy is not a Hunter, but a Witch working under the mantle of Enforcer, though their history with the organization can be considered complicated at best. They hold themselves tightly, observing with sharp eyes rather than interacting with the world around them. There’s a sly humor to them if caught at the right moment – they are guilty of playing small tricks just to get a laugh out of a group of children more than once. They are also sharply intolerant of those who would do harm to others out of fear and misunderstanding, leaving them usually opposition with others in their order. Underneath the hard exterior is someone very afraid of being vulnerable – something they spend a lot of time trying to hide.

Protective of their origins, Poppy doesn’t talk much about who they are and where they’re from, not even to those they consider close friends. Although Alaric seems to hold many of their secrets, even he will say he knows almost nothing. They do frequently allude to being from somewhere “far away” and come from a “rather large” family – brothers and sisters of all sorts are mentioned in passing. At some stage they received both magic and combat training: their skill with barriers and forcefields is unmatched and the enchanted blade hanging at their side is not just for show. They are an alchemist on the side, mostly using the skill to brew potions and poultices for their frequently injured Hunter.

As they arrived in Lunaris several months before everything truly went to shit, they were able to catch a glimpse of Finn and Ezra together in their prime. Though instantly intrigued by both of them, Poppy was content to have their relationship stand at “enthusiastic flirting” and nothing more. After Finn’s attempt at distancing and the escalation of Lunaris’ problems, Poppy was unexpectedly caught up in their reunion – quite literally walking in on them shortly after they reconciled. Though it was uncharted territory for them they will grudgingly admit it all worked out in the end, and that they are happier for it.

Alaric and Poppy

Having originally met on a special assignment in Aclea, the two of them complimented each other perfectly as both fighters and scholars. As both of them specialized in locating, identifying, and containing magical phenomena they were quickly organized into a specialist unit. Though this meant they were forced to travel in excess, it gave them both the opportunity they wanted to forge their own roles within their respective organizations.

Being sent to investigate the sudden spike in supernatural events across Eskria, and in Lunaris in particular, this assignment is their first “long-term” arrangement somewhere. It has provided Alaric the opportunity to train and fight beside one of his personal heroes, and has given Poppy the space to experiment with new recipes and spells. Though certainly one of their more challenging assignments, it is proving to be one of the most rewarding as well.

What had started out as a little get together turned into Kama-wide party with Agnes insisting that guests either bring a dish or donate to Thavnairian orphans. She is a good woman. Estinien is very lucky to have her as a mate. That she has adopted our nation as her home to raise her children warms my heart. My sire was correct about her...

He was taken out of his thoughts by a baby dressed as a pumpkin crawling to him.

"Hello...Pip." Agnes mentioned that Pip has the pumpkin costume with the leafs on the hat. Laurent has the one with the carved smiling face. Besides, Laurent wishes to cling to his mother every second of the day, whereas Pip is more adventurous. Varshahn knelt and lifted the baby, who was smiling and laughing. "Where are your parents, little one?"

Pip laughed some more and leaned to kiss Varshahn's cheek. Like all the Varlineau children, he is very sweet. Very kind. How blessed my dear friends are to have such wonderful children.

"PIP! PIP! HAS ANYONE SEEN PIP?" Varshahn heard Estinien shout nearby. "PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIP!"

He couldn't help but chuckle. "I see you made a daring escape from your father, young one. Shall we return you to him?"

The baby gurgled and kissed his cheek again.

"PIP! Oh shit, Varshahn thank you." Estinien said, walking briskly to Varshahn and his son. "Come here, you little troublemaker! Bapa was so worried!" He took Pip from Varshahn, holding him close to his chest. "Don't crawl off, Pip. Your poor Bapa's heart can't take it." He then winked at the baby, who giggled. "Next time we go together." Estinien glanced at Varshahn and smiled. "Thank you, my friend."

The small au'ra bowed. "Of course. I'm happy to watch the little ones, as always." The Varlineau children love Varshahn and my true form equally. Afraid of neither. When they are older, I shall have them on my back...we'll take to the skies. I can hear their laughter already...

With a nod, Estinien took Pip back to his mother.

But Varshahn was not alone for long.

"Varshahn," Esme Varlineau began. "do you like my costume? I'm a princess!" The young girl twirled in her pink dress (I heard her grandmother made it for her). "Do you like it?"

"Yes, sweet child. Such a beautiful princess."

The Varlineau children are children of Thavnair, and I shall watch over them and their children and their children's children until the day I return to the lifestream.
